[arc review] ravena guron truly never misses and will forever be an auto read author for me!
‘your murder next’ is a thriller / murder mystery that follows myra as she starts a new school—and not long after, her classmates are being murdered one by one.
I really enjoyed this and know that whatever ravena writes, it’ll be fast paced and have me finishing it in one sitting. I liked the investigative journalism aspect, and not really knowing what would happen next. I also thought the dual timeline was done very well.
my only wish was that the reveal made more sense, and we saw more of why they did it—maybe a flashback scene, or just a couple chapters in their point of review. I wish the ending didn’t end so quickly too because it felt like ~85% of the book was leading up to it, and then it was over so quickly.
nonetheless I did really enjoy this, and I’m itching for more!

This is my 4th book of this authors to read and I do really enjoy them. This was fast paced and kept me hooked-especially with the dual time lines at that the first part. However I didn’t love the ending. I even felt like the main character was confused by how the killer could even be the killer. The reveal of the killer felt too rushed to me. However it was still a very enjoyable book and I would recommend it.

Im lowk annoyed bcs ik i read this too quickly and I feel like I'd have enjoyed it even more than I did if I'd read it in more than one sitting but this authors books are just rlly thrilling

This another great book this author with author fireing on all cyclinders as per usually seeing that i have loved all of her books so far, with their being no bad apples yet.
My favourite aspect of this book is that i loved how it examined toxic friendship and unhealthy this friendship can be, when they are built on jealous, competetion and wanting to stay ahead of one another and wanting to stay in the game of being the head one in charge. It was an great addition to the book, to examine how these say they are friends but are truly a tight due to the the crowd that they mix with and due to knowing each other secrets so its friendship that has layer of fear and bitterness attached to it as they can go from nasty and friendly within secs and yes it might across as banter but their banter has that edge to it that just has enough bite that you can pass it off as banter but you can feel the pin point of thr jab.
The other factor that i really liked about this book is that, you never know who to trust and who you can rely on seeing that all these characters realtionship are sketchy at best so its is anyone game, and could be anyone regarding who wanted this person dead as they all have motive and will all get something from the murder of this book. The list gets shorter and shorter as the books goes on, with the sense of that ticking time clock as each suspect is dieing left right and centre so the nest is getting smaller, tighter with their not being a clear until up to the very end so it kept you on the edge of your seat and kept you reading to see how this will all unfold

Ravena Guron has already established herself as one of my favourite YA murder mystery writers and Your Murder Next further cements this.
Myra has moved to a new school and soon after the most popular girl is found dead in a freezer. Budding journalist that she is, Myra starts to investigate the death, believing that one of the girls three best friends is responsible for her murder. She quickly finds herself in deeper than she imagined, with her life on the line and the murders beginning to rack up, she is desperate to figure out who is behind it all.
Ravena absolutely nails every aspect of her murder mysteries. I loved Myra, how inquisitive she is and determined but also how fallible she is (after all she is only a teenager). I loved Aiden and his role as a kind of watson to her sherlock. I could endlessly list everything I loved about this book honestly. I truly enjoyed all the twists and turns, everyone was on my suspect list at some point, it was so much fun.

I really needed something easy, and this was the perfect palate cleanser! It was fast-paced, bingeable, and very easy to read and follow.
I found it a little juvenile at times, but that is to be expected as it is a YA book!
The characters were interesting, and I enjoyed the dual timelines. The story kept me on my toes throughout, and I was constantly changing my mind about who I thought did it.
I definitely need to check out more from this author when I need something lighter to read!

This story follows the new girl who ends up seemingly in the wrong place at the right time and the story unfolds with her chasing the story while she lives at the heart of it. The clues build to a conclusion where it made sense, but I didn’t guess the killer. This is a classic who done it, but not an obvious motive or ending.

Ha! I kinda guessed the ending. Gotta love when you can (sort of) figure it out with clues you get.
All in all I kinda liked it but I didn‘t love it.
There was not a lot of worldbuilding in my opinion and the characters also did not have a lot of depth which made it feel kind of flat and boring …I guess the characters being somewhat generic and not having a lot of depth fits well with the underlying message but to me it was a bit underwhelming. I also kept confusing Freddie and Rupert for some reason…

Her books are difficult to get into but I did enjoy the plot twists. I like how Aiden and Myra seemed genuinely platonic. I don’t like this idea that boys and girls can’t just be friends. I don’t know how to feel about Naomi but Jordan seemed sweet.

When you read an author's backlist, their other works before the most recent release, I fear it will always be in comparison territory. This is exactly what happened for me. In comparison to her other works, I'm going to be so honest and say that I don't have the faintest clue what's going on. Other than journalism and competition and snobby rich kids, the book kind of felt all over the place for me.
The main character was alright, but not someone I was like fully rooting for. I feel she's written better main characters (though if you feel differently, that's totally fair and to each their own.)
I will say Dean was always suspicious and he's not exactly the brightest tool in the shed. But there was no hint of whom of the friends could have killed their best friend. It was like all signs pointed to Immy, and that's about it. Nothing to track you off from that thought. Also, even though I read it, I still don't understand Rupert to be completely honest.
The book was a quick and easy read, but her previous works were far better than this one.

I honestly thought this book would be better. I do enjoy a Ravena Guron book, but this one was just kinda meh. Don't get me wrong, it was pretty good. I just expected a bit more. I don't regret buying it at all though.

I’ve read every single one of Ravena’s YA books thus far, and they’ve all been five-star wonders. I love the atmospheric way I always feel cemented in the mystery from the get-go. For Your Murder Next, we meet our main character, Myra, who is the new girl in town. Her parents have inherited a relative’s house and business, so they move from their rented flat to Greyton. It’s the fresh start Myra’s family needs, especially Myra herself. She’s an aspiring journalist, and a trail of evidence and case she was working led to a friendship breakdown that turned people against her, so she’s looking forward to having a clean slate, to maybe meet some new friends. Her neighbour, Aiden, is actually in her Year, and offers to walk her there on the first day.
As it turns out, Greyton (unlike her old school) has a school newspaper, and Myra wants to join—only, the person in charge, Scarlett, an elusive and popular girl, runs a tight ship, and the second-in-command, Naomi, who is one of Aiden’s friends, isn’t all that welcoming either. Scarlett, though, takes an interest to Myra, and snags an after-hours invite to her parents restaurant with friends Immy, Freddie and Rupert, so they can drink. Myra is sure everyone gets home alright—but when Scarlett is found murdered, frozen to death, in the restaurant’s walk-in freezer, a “freak accident” leads Myra to open her own, secret investigation into Scarlett’s friend group and her enemies. But as Myra gatecrashes the twisted friendships of the upper class, she’s realising there’s little they won’t do to protect themselves. I read Your Murder Next with a restless curiosity, feeling less like a reader and more like Myra’s silent partner in the investigation. Ravena has this way of constantly reinventing and reinvigorating the murder mystery genre in such an impressive way. I truly wish I’d had her books when I was a teen! I loved that the book also explored themes like loss of identity, friendship loss, classism and toxic behaviours. Myra had this fiery fight to uncover the truth in her very character, her love of journalism strong throughout, yet this hang-up about how her love for it had caused her to lose friendships and push people away when she came on too strong. I loved how unapologetically herself she was, and teaming up with Aiden signaled a profound shift in her character, like a willingness to trade her self-isolation for trust. This story was saturated with suspense, offering a rich and truly immersive puzzle that was impossible to walk away from, another absolute triumph from Ravena. A must read for YA lovers this year!

After her journalistic ambitions lead to disaster (and full outcast status at her previous school.) Myra is given a second chance, when her parents inherit a new house and business from a distant relative.
But things quickly spiral when the most popular girl at her new school shows up dead in a freezer. And Myra suspects foul play. To find clues (and hopefully catch a killer) Myra puts her investigative skills to work, by fawning her way into the popular clique.
Only to end up on a remote weekend getaway with the people she’s most convinced are killers, in hopes one of them will confess…
Having read (and loved) all of Guron’s previous Murder Mysteries, I had extremely high hopes of this one. And I’m so glad to say it surpassed all of my expectations!
The writing was just as atmospheric and addictive as Guron’s previous novels, and her ability to delve into relevant themes and social issues (with so much nuance and depth) still blows me away.
I also loved our FMC Myra who, despite her sharp and cynical nature, was a really compelling character to explore.
Given her modest upbringing, Myra is well aware of wealth/class divisions and the ease with which the powerful sidestep blame and wrongdoing.
So her commentary on Immy, Freddie & Rupert (and the performative, self absorbed way they navigate their friendship) was really interesting! And gave a much needed critique on social elitism and the class divide.
I don’t want to spoil any of the twists, so I’m gonna stop there. But definitely think this would be a perfect way to introduce more complex topics (such as ethics and accountability) to younger readers.
Overall a really enjoyable (and twisty) read that fans of Holly Jackson, mystery-filled detective stories or empowering FMCs should consider picking up.

Ravena Guron’s YA murder mysteries always keep me gripped in suspense! I rushed to Waterstones to add her latest novel to my collection, as any YA crime reader should. As always, it was a great read, but unfortunately I didn’t enjoy it as much as Catch Your Death which was a 5 star read for me, I still think about the twists in that book! But Myra’s story kept me enthralled with her school serial killer and I’m excited to continue Ravena’s works with This Book Kills.
Myra has started a new school after leaving her old due to isolation and bullying. All her focus is on joining the school’s newspaper, starting her journalist career and possibly making a friend. When the popular girl, Scarlet proposes a deal to use her family’s restaurant as a drinking spot in exchange for access to a summer journalist program, Myra can’t refuse. Somehow, Scarlet ends up frozen to death in their freezer which leads to a pattern of ‘accidental’ deaths. Myra decides to investigate, despite receiving death threats, determined to unmask the killer and prove that these students’ deaths aren’t accidents.
I loved the flashback and multi-timeline style of writing; this worked well to hold back information surrounding the murders from the reader while introducing characters to us. This writing style helped the suspense pacing, and I liked knowing that we were getting closer to the scene in the first chapter where Myra’s held at gun point. As always, I did not correctly guess who the perpetrator was and I was surprised by the ending. Guron’s books are always worth a read and even when I don’t enjoy them as much as her others, I still can’t put them down.

This is also opportune as Myra is seeking a fresh start following a big drama at her previous school leading to her being a social pariah. At her new school whilst trying to fit in with some of the popular kids she inadvertently gets embroiled in solving the mystery of the death of Scarlett, following a drunken misadventure at Myra's parents restaurant. As she tries to unravel who the killer is she ends up getting further into the twister world of the wealthy.
This was a great book and the first I've managed to read by this awesome author. The plot was well done for the genre, there were a good balance of characters and their development with inconsequential characters getting minimal but sufficient development. The pacing was done well with the audience steadily following and the twists being well spaced out and relevant. I really felt the academia vibes without the need to go dark given it's YA and as an ex private school girl who grew up poor, I really felt that dynamic was done believably which I always feel needs merit.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I kept guessing who did it and I loved how misdirected I was throughout. This author is evidently extremely skilled given this is her 4th book in this genre and I can't wait to read some of her others that I picked up at yalc last year

As she tries to unravel who the killer is she ends up getting further into the twister world of the wealthy.
This was a great book and the first I've managed to read by this awesome author. The plot was well done for the genre, there were a good balance of characters and their development with inconsequential characters getting minimal but sufficient development. The pacing was done well with the audience steadily following and the twists being well spaced out and relevant. I really felt the academia vibes without the need to go dark given it's YA and as an ex private school girl who grew up poor, I really felt that dynamic was done believably which I always feel needs merit.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I kept guessing who did it and I loved how misdirected I was throughout. This author is evidently extremely skilled given this is her 4th book in this genre and I can't wait to read some of her others that I picked up at yalc last year

What I like about her books is that, often, the motives for the perpetrators are very petty. These are not grand revenge schemes over missing millions but so many little slights piling up until it gets too much. It really fits into the teenager reality of feeling big emotions - it's just that her characters don't exactly handle them in a mature, reasonable way; they get murderous.
The book starts with three separate timelines - the present, two days before, and a month before. These storylines move forward until the present is met at about the halfway point. After that, everything runs linearly following the investigations in the present moment (as more bodies turn up.) I very much appreciated the little chapter headers letting me get immediately grounded in where we were given this tale time hops a lot. I enjoy a well-done multi-timeline tale, and this book delivered that.
The three timelines also really helped with the initial pacing as you can move between storylines whenever there is a slight lull in one timeline. It was effective at hooking me into the book as I wanted to know what secrets each section was going to offer up. Coupled with the short chapters, mostly all ending on a tension beat, and I flew through the book.

Agatha Christie herself would have been proud of the red herrings and twists in this novel. This is my first read from this author and it definitely won't be my last. I read through it in a day as I didn't and couldn't put it down! Twists, turns, suspense and drama - it had them all in bucketfuls. Twisty teen angst nestled amongst an almost perfect Stepford Wives style town but deep under the surface tension is bubbling. If you love the Holly Jackson’s Good Girls Guides then I think this book would suit you perfectly. With ambiguous characters and numerous deaths piling up so quickly you end up suspecting everyone! Honestly loved it and I'm hungry for more from this author.

Your Murder Next by Ravena Guron

Your Murder Next was such an addictive YA thriller and completely pulled me into its world of secrets, lies, and toxic friendships. From the moment Scarlett is found dead in the walk-in freezer at Myra’s family restaurant, I was hooked trying to piece together what really happened.
Myra was a really strong main character — ambitious, determined, and just messy enough to feel realistic. I loved the investigative journalism angle as she tried to uncover the truth by getting closer to Scarlett’s friendship group, and the constant tension between all the characters made it impossible to know who to trust. The small-town setting, elite clique drama, and multiple twists gave major A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder vibes in the best way.
Ravena Guron does such a good job building suspense, and the pacing kept me flying through the chapters. Some of the reveals felt slightly rushed towards the end, which is why it didn’t quite hit 5 stars for me, but it was still such an entertaining read with plenty of shocking moments along the way.
If you love YA murder mysteries with unreliable characters, dark secrets, and lots of twists, definitely add this one to your TBR.

Your Murder Next was my first introduction to Ravena Guron, and even though it is geared toward a Young Adult audience, I thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult reader! It was an incredibly easy, fast, and addictive read that kept me turning the pages.
The story follows Myra, who has just moved to a new area after her parents inherit her uncle’s restaurant. Eager to fit in at her new school, she sets her sights on joining the school newspaper. However, things take a dark turn when the most popular girl at school is found dead inside her parent’s restaurant freezer. Suddenly, Myra realizes her family is in a terrible predicament and worse, she discovers that she is the killer's next target.
Driven to uncover the truth and protect her family, Myra takes the investigation into her own hands. It's a fantastic, gripping mystery that I highly recommend!

This book was an enjoyable read. I loved how the timeline jumped back and forth, slowly filling you in on all of the context and keeping things interesting. However, I felt that the pacing towards the end of the book was rushed. The resolution is quick and there is very little elaboration when it comes to the true motivations behind the murder. Many of the characters lacked depth for me and where hard to become attached to. Although, this could be to not being the target audience for this book and I believe that younger readers would probably enjoy this book more.

This was really fast paced and the fragmented timeline helped to build the suspense, but the ending felt rushed with the final reveal feeling a little anti climactic and was missing a lot of conviction, almost like there was no purpose for the murders. The journalism and self investigation angle was really fun, and is always one of my favourite tropes in YA mystery books, and it was done well. Myra was a good main character, with determination and common sense when it came to her life being in danger, the other characters didn't have much distinction and at times it was difficult to remember who was who, but overall, it was a fun and quick read.

I love books like these! Mystery, YA whodunnit with plenty of suspense. I was eagerly lapping up the chapters to see how it was all going to wrap up.
We’ve got a journalist in training MC who falls in with a crowd of rich, entitled and well connected elites and things just start to get more and more intriguing from there. She’s new to the school and wants in on the school newspaper but as she digs and bodies start piling, she realises she has a real case to investigate ..
I loved the sense of foreboding and it was a super entertaining read.

This was such a fast paced and engaging YA mystery thriller, much like Ravena Guron’s other books.
From the beginning, I was hooked and I found the jumps in time meant that I was in detective mode from the get go! I was determined to work out who’d done it and why. Thankfully, the author’s writing meant that I flew through this at rapid speed.
I would say that Mondays are Murder is still may favourite book by Ravena, but if you’re on the lookout for a quick YA mystery thriller then I would 100% recommend this!
