When a friend of mine recently gifted me this book, I was hoping that this would be a nice little appetizer for the serious reading in the days ahead. Surfing through the first few page, I found them to be interesting too. But, as the pages progressed, all that hope and interest gave way to boredom and a sense of annoyance.

A potpourri of sorts, this book tries to be many things at once - self-help, business, finance, and finally and mainly, network marketing. The author emphasizes on network marketing as one of the trusted ways to become rich quick and on one's own terms. As if we haven't heard it all from those impassioned distributors trying to enroll us into their pyramid selling. In fact, a simple Google search will tell you that there have been people who have become millionaires through this mode, but this is not for everyone and not for everywhere.

Filled with anecdotes, jokes and a few inspirational quotes, this book is really for those people who are frantically searching for ways and means to become rich quick. And, if you take away those quotes, anecdotes and jokes, the rest of the book could be presented neatly in two A4-sized sheets. As for the serious readers, I wouldn't recommend this for any reason.

It talks about network marketing, synergy and franchising combined. Basically he speaks about how Amway sells... and how people make money out of it... It's highly biased and does not even mention any downsides to this. Moreover this strategy of making money has proved to be dangerous in the Indian scenario for many people with rogue companies like Symbiosis etc. cropping up.
All in all a bad read... I am being really nice when I give it two stars...

Not a buyer of network marketing, there have been so many frauds and scamsters in recent times using this and looting people

Initially, when I picked up the book, I though there might be some useful / reasoned approach in the book. But after reading, all expectations and left in the muck. This is a book that can disorient people.
Network marketing had disadvantages too which are not explained in the book. For instance, There are only limited people on the Earth. You assume yourself at the top of the Pyramid of network marketing, but what if you are one of the last few if the entrants i.e. one of the last legs of the Pyramid.
Not worth buying the idea presented in the book.
Does not deserve even one star.

The author starts the book with a very interesting question. Have you ever thought about how good we are at copycatting? Copycatting starts the day we are born, we copy the language we speak, the food we eat, the way we walk, the way we dress.

So why haven't we found a way to copycat creating wealth?

The most important part of this book explaination of "Power of compounding". Albert Einstein says compounding is the eighth wonder of the world. Use this powerful principal to create wealth by building business which leverages this very concept. I learnt how important it is to take leverage of time and compounding (exponential growth).

This book provides motivation for the readers. They highlighted the success of Coca-Cola, Mc Donald’s & Warren Buffet’s share market but it needs to bring more practical stuff & broad views.

It is a very simple and easy going book. The contemporary ideas proposed by Burke Hedges seems attractive. Franchising and Network Marketing were excellent strategies some times ago. When I read it now, I felt they are a bit outdated. The book is not a guide to becoming rich but it shows a few pathway for becoming rich. These pathways might be unorthodox for some, while an opportunity for others. It all depends on the mindset of the reader. The book doesn't give a clear picture, rather it is focusing on some hints and suggestions. After reading the book, if someone really got interested in franchising or network marketing, you would be in a dilemma, what to do next?; I suggest Go for another book....

The book is very small and contains lot of spelling mistakes. I am not sure, whether it is the mistake while printing or mistakes by intentionally.

Its not an excellent book. If you search 'What is franchising or Network Marketing with example' in Google, you will get an output somewhat like this book.

My rating 2/5

"You have to seize opportunities when they are presented to you, not when you think you are ready for them"

Book: Copycat Marketing 101

🌻After a very long time I have read a book which is a little against my philosophy of living life. This book challenged my perspective of how we humans are actually living oh sorry not living how we are copying. Yes that is what the book is all about how best we are at copycatting.

😇How did I feel while reading the book?

🌻Burke in his book as started off with how we humans are great at copycatting. From childhood till now we have been copying each and everything from someone or the other. Sometimes we call it inspiration sometimes we call it a role model. Every time we are looking up to somebody to make ourselves a better version of ourselves.

The Book helps to give us an idea about how to differentiate between a temporary income and wealth, therefore networking which can be a great scope in the coming future, and is a good book if you want to start a network managing business. It gives a very small description of how the Franchising or Network marketing concepts are different from the normal job.

😇How did I change after reading the book?

🌻This is something I came across while reading the book and this made me realize we might be going right or wrong whatever. We assume that we are copying the right person....we copy others, and others copy us.

1. Simple but powerful concept
This book clearly explains that success doesn’t always require new ideas—you can simply copy proven systems. I found this idea very practical and easy to understand.

2. Eye-opening about money vs wealth
It made me realize the difference between just earning income and building real wealth. The concept of “time vs money trap” really changed my thinking.

3. Motivates to think differently
The author pushes you to question the traditional 9–5 mindset and look for smarter ways to grow financially instead of just working harder.

4. Focus on duplication and systems
I liked how it emphasizes following a proven system (like franchising or network-based models) instead of struggling alone. It shows how duplication can lead to faster growth.

5. Practical but slightly repetitive
While the ideas are strong, at some points the book feels repetitive. Still, the message is clear and useful, especially for beginners in business or marketing.

Copy Cat Marketing 101 starts off strong, delivering real value in its first three-quarters. The early sections are packed with practical insights, clear examples, and actionable strategies that make marketing concepts easy to understand and apply. It does a great job breaking down what works and why, especially for beginners or small business owners looking to improve their approach.

However, the final portion of the book feels noticeably weaker. It shifts heavily toward network marketing and relies more on general facts than meaningful insights or fresh ideas. Compared to the earlier chapters, this section lacks depth and originality, making the ending feel less impactful than the strong start.

"If You Want Different Results, You Have to Try Different Approaches" this book starts with this quote. I liked it the way he explained how we copy cat since our birth. I learned so many things in this book teach linear growth, exponential growth and which is real wealth. Best part compound interest concepts. He is telling the pros and cons of franchise and network marketing (MLM). Finally he is coming to say that Network marketing is the ultimate copycat idea to make money. Personally. I don’t believe in network marketing. But we can learn many things in this book.

It a a marvel of a book. I can say its one of my favourites till date. The author in this book tells that we are copycats from the day we are born, we learn to do everything like walking and talking by copying others and consequently its the best thing we can do.

He tells us the value of exponential growth, leverage and also tells us how to copycat our way to success. Its a must read and will surely change your view about life.

A normal book, nothing extraordinary. Best thing was that it was short.
On one page there was a context of what tv watchers around the world eat while watching Tv, so In indian column author had listed mutton sandwiches. I refute this claim as most of Indians do not indulge into mutton sandwiches, many are vegetarians.
Though the reason behing mentioning this fact was the level of due diligence done by the author.
You will know nothing more which you already didn’t know.
