Mickey slid out of his chair, grinning. With this new commercial, he was hoping to increase sales for his company. So far everything was a success in his world, except his love life. Phfft, what else is new? Flicking on his phone he checked his messages. He had stopped by the studio to film the commercial before heading to the docks. A customs official, a Mr. Hugh Brannough, was cocking up the shipment of some of their badly needed merchandize. Well Mr. Brannough, I'm coming for you!
A shiver suddenly raced down Hugh's spine, as he sat at his desk at the docks. I wonder what the hell that was about? Shrugging, he went back to work…

A book I can really say I enjoyed in weeks since I have a bad habit of picking boring books I'm very happy I run across of this one. My kind of book sexy/hot and funny, eeeh I laughed so hard lol. What's better than that? I liked Mickey he's sweet, loving and seems like he has a good heart, Hugh I loved loved loved Hugh that's my kind of man a big hairy "bear". Lol, oh poor Dag he was well he is a spoiled pretty boy who I guess know he messed up and sees his fault but he has a special place in my heart I hope he finds love. Every other character made this book what it is AMAZING. It was well written. This is one of those stories that you can't wait to see how it ends but gets mad when it does and wish it was a bit longer. Hahahaha anyways I don't know about you but as you can see I really enjoyed it very much and if you haven't read it you need to you want regret it TRUST ME. Can't wait for more from this author. I really fell in love with this story. I was a bit unsure at first of what direction it was taking, as the blurb doesn’t really tell you much. But, it didn’t take long for me to warm right up to it and settle in for the ride.
Desdemona Darkly is the successful on-line sex toy company owned by Mickey and his ex-partner of 8 years, Dag. Mickey has been a bit of a workaholic in the past, and while it played a big part in the demise of his and Dag’s relationship, it payed off where the company was concerned.
When a delay at the customs office brings Mickey into contact with the sexy kilt wearing Scotsman, Hugh, things really start to get moving. Hugh is the sexy, divorced, father of twin teenage boys. He moved from Scotland when he was fourteen so doesn’t really have an accent, but his brogue shines through here and there, just enough to really add to his allure.
After a rocky start, Hugh and Mickey hit it off and begin their relationship rather slowly, with a fabulous first date and quite a few dates as well before they take things to the next level. Mickey turns out to be not what he appeared. He is a bit nerdy, but is a feisty little guy able to hold his own when necessary. The tables are turned even further when it turns out Mickey is more of a top.
There are some issues with Dag, however. It seems he has basically been cockblocking Mickey for quite some time and is none too happy about the new developments with Hugh. I wasn’t much of a Dag fan throughout this story. He does his best to try and cause problems with Mickey and Hugh. Thankfully, with the help of Hugh’s ex and Mickey’s sister, the two prevail.
Hugh’s kids also add a few problems. They’re having a little trouble adjusting to their parents finding significant others, dealing with their own sexuality issues, and just being teenagers. Mickey has had some trouble adjusting to the insta-family as well. It was nice to see these problems and how they worked out. Everything with the kids is written in such a way that feels very realistic and ends up being quite enjoyable. I loved watching Hugh deal with his sons.
This is my favorite story by Mr. Ortiz to date. It is a smooth reading, engrossing story that I didn’t want to put down. It is funny, sexy and sweet, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I cannot wait to read more and really hope to see more of Mickey and Hugh.

This book rocked! Although the title doesn't really tell you much, this is one book I am so glad I read! The characters are incredible and well rounded, the story line is gripping, and the humor is just what I needed. The flow of the book is what really sealed it for me. It is a fast paced book that doesn't drag at any point. I was already a fan of Matt Ortiz, but this book is night and day different than the Oswald witches series. This is funny and crazy, and the sexy bits will melt your e reader.
Mickey is one half owner of Desdemona Darkly, an online retailer of sex toys and other bedroom fun. He is the brains behind the brand. He had begun the company ten years ago with his partner at the time, Dag. Dag is a cross between a Norse god and a man child. He is the PR guy, the schmoozer, the guy everyone wants. After 8 years, the nerdy one, Mickey, and the blonde god, Dag, grew apart. Mickey worked too hard, and Dag got lonely and screwed around. After being apart for 2 years, they were finally getting to being friends. Dag keeps flaunting the men he is dating in Mickey's face, and Mickey is finally feeling like he could date again. But first, they need a shipment that is tied up with customs. When Mickey storms down to the customs office to yell, he meets the beefy, sexy bear of an agent, Hugh. Dressed in his Scottish Kilt, Mickey is drooling by the time he leaves. Hugh is all kinds of attracted to the little spitfire. Hugh is divorced, and has twin boys, Gus and Ferg. His marriage was pushed by the parents, and even his ex, Ethel, knew he was gay and wanted the divorce. They are friends and raising the boys between them. When Hugh tries to help Mickey by bringing the crate to his warehouse as soon as it had cleared customs, he is rewarded with a crate of dildos to the head. Granted, he saved Mickey from it, so all was not for nothing. Their romance, and the drama of pushy ex boyfriends and challenging teenagers is the heart of the story. But you will be rolling from the antics of the staff and the running of an adult online store. This book is a definite must read for all of you who love a great romance. It is also a tale about learning to open your heart, not letting love slip by you because of pride, and also that there is usually a darn good reason why someone is an ex. There is so much that happens in this book, just go buy it and see for yourself. Mickey and Hugh will warm your heart and make you laugh out loud. What else do you need?

Fast paced, sexy and full of humor, DESDEMONA DARKLY meets all your personal reading needs!
Mickey is an all around lovable yet slightly stressed out CEO. Hugh is the down to earth guy next door with two teenagers in tow. Surrounded by an engaging cast of family and friends, they are a match made in romantic comedy heaven.
The characters in this story are smart and snappy, the setting is unique, and I found DESDEMONA DARKLY to be one of the most refreshingly entertaining stories I've read in a long time!

My Review ~
This may only be my second book by this author but I can easily say I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
Desdemona Darkly is a very successful adult toy business deep in the heart of Seattle. Run by Mickey and his ex-partner Dag, they started the business out of their apartment and built it into a huge multi-million dollar company. Along the way they had a messy breakup but are now at least amicable business partners if not sort of friends.
Mickey, though, is realizing he's lonely after all this time but he's so focused on the business and things going on that it's hard for him to pull his head out of that to date. Later on in the book we actually find out that's not the only reason why he has issues with dates sticking around. Because Mickey is so focused on the company when a shipment is stuck at the Customs house for the 3rd month in a row, he goes over and takes matters into his own hands. And this is how he meets the gorgeous, fuzzy 'bear' that is Hugh Brannough.
A kilt-wearing, Scots accented transplant, Hugh lives day to day and paycheck to paycheck. Having twin teenage boys he helps to provide for along with his daily living expenses leaves little over for extras in his life. He gets the surprise of his life when Mickey gets up in his face over the 'captive' shipment of sex toys they need to launch their new product line. Both men are totally what trips the other man's fantasies.
There were some great, funny and even sweet moments in this book, mostly between Hugh and Mickey, but there were a few between Hugh and his boys Fergus and Angus. There is also a strong cast of secondary characters that really helped to flesh out the story and give it that touch of fun but dysfunctional family. Dag provided a tiny bit of conflict, along with the mostly normal teen angst of two highly hormonal 15 almost 16 year old boys.
Otherwise this is really a relationship based story, a new couple going through the highs and lows of figuring this new relationship thing out as they go along. The sex scenes between Hugh and Mickey are off the charts HOT! And Hugh.. in a KILT with Doc Martens! Talk about sexy imagery, especially the day he takes the shipment of vibrators to Desdemona Darkly's warehouse after they are finally released. That scene made me laugh out loud like crazy.
All in all a highly readable and enjoyable story with fantastic characters. I look forward to the future releases from Matthew Ortiz.

Mickey Sherwood is an all-around nice guy. His staff loves him, his family loves him (although his parents won’t tell their friends what he does for a living), and his ex-partner it seems might still be carrying a torch of him. Either that, or the ex-partner just can’t stand seeing Mickey happy!
Mickey and his ex-partner, Dag, own a wildly successful sex toy company named Desdemona Darkly. Unfortunately, their personal relationship didn’t survive the intervening years from the company start-up to the current time, but they are still joint owners of the company so still work together daily. One major problem with that is every man that Mickey is interested in, somehow ends up with Dag, or backs off and doesn’t pursue Mickey for some reason. Could Dag have something to do with that? Dag cheated on Mickey during their relationship (repeatedly) and now seems intent on never letting Mickey be happy again.
All that changes the day that Mickey storms into the office of Customs Officer, Hugh Brannough. It seems Customs has a much needed shipment of dildos sitting on the docks because of a paperwork error on the Chinese distributor’s end. By the time Mickey finishes yelling at Hugh and storms out, they have both definitely made an impression on each other.
The next day when Hugh can’t get the sexy Mickey out of his mind, he personally delivers the shipment to Desdemona Darkly. But what happens when the crate is damaged by a fork lift and splits open…dumping hundreds of dildos and packing crate pieces onto Hugh and knocking him unconscious?
Mr. Ortiz does write some great lines. I think my favorite in the book was, “I dove in and ate his ass as though I was on death row and he was my last meal.” With lines like that the book is sure to keep your attention!
I really liked the entire book immensely, but I really need to talk about one of my favorite parts of the book. Spaced throughout the book were the intermissions. During those intermissions, Mr. Ortiz introduced us to the workers at Desdemona Darkly and detailed what their jobs entailed. The best of those by far, in my opinion, has to be the Returns Department. As much as I would enjoy working at Desdemona Darkly, the Returns Department would not be my chosen spot! You will understand when you read that chapter, and the part about the returned love doll! Ewwwww. LOL
This book has it all. Great lines, great sex scenes, really believable characters and a fast, fun, humorous storyline. I loved it. It kept me up until 1AM finishing it. Holy hell I loved this story. From start to finish this story made me laugh my ass off, get hot over the sizzling man on man action and wow'd by the characters. These characters range from sexy Scotsman who wears kilts to a nerdy business man with a kinky as hell wicked side, a pre madonna with botax and twins who are a freaking riot.
Love the creativity in this story, the business is co owned by Mickey (the brains and take no nonsense President) and Dag the pretty boy party guy in charge of the PR. These two characters (Ill try not to ruin anything) but I'm glad they aren't together anymore. Dag is a spoiled man child that stomps his foot when he doesn't get his way, he's a downer to Mickey and a all around douche (his character well written). Loved Mickey, he's sweet, loving, always looking out for the company and so freaking sexy ( I won't tell you about his package..yum) Hugh, oh my Hugh, is my favorite. He's hairy in all the right places, sexy wearing Kilt Scotsman, with a growly attitude until of course he meets Mickey. These two together light the sheets on fire and glow with love, love their little arguments and their making up. Love Ferg and Gus, these two are awesome, they are smart assed, shy in a way and totally love getting their dad riled. All the characters kick ass including Mickey's sister Anna and Hugh's EX Ethal and all the workers at Desdemona Darkly. The whole story was so unique in every way, from the dildo's to the blow up dolls, to the research and development discussions and the characters and oh my I love the descriptions this author has for things...lmfao. Dag is a spoiled man child that stomps his foot when he doesn't get his way, he's a downer to Mickey and a all around douche (his character well written). Loved Mickey, he's sweet, loving, always looking out for the company and so freaking sexy ( I won't tell you about his package..yum) Hugh, oh my Hugh, is my favorite. He's hairy in all the right places, sexy wearing Kilt Scotsman, with a growly attitude until of course he meets Mickey. These two together light the sheets on fire and glow with love, love their little arguments and their making up. Love Ferg and Gus, these two are awesome, they are smart assed, shy in a way and totally love getting their dad riled. All the characters kick ass including Mickey's sister Anna and Hugh's EX Ethal and all the workers at Desdemona Darkly. The whole story was so unique in every way, from the dildo's to the blow up dolls, to the research and development discussions and the characters and oh my I love the descriptions this author has for things...lmfao. i seriously loved this story! this was my first mathew ortiz book and i can't believe it took me this long to read one of his books.
so let's start with hugh - i'm pretty much going to say all you need to know about him right here: scotsman with black hair, green eyes, 6' tall that wears a kilt properly. he is a sweet, loving family man. he is great with his twin boys and has a solid relationship with his ex-wife. and the scene when he first asked mickey out was priceless!
mickey is also a great character - strong, loveable, sometimes seemingly lacking in self-confidence and other times overflowing with it. he also has a strong sense of family. he and hugh have an instant attraction and their chemistry when together is palpable.
almost all the other characters were pretty great - especially hugh's twins and ex-wife. i didn't care for dag at all (he was the antagonist clearly) and i loved it when annabella put him in his place!
i seriously hope this is the start of a series because there are a couple more stories started here that i'd love to read!

Four and a half stars!
This book was so good. I enjoyed watching Hugh and Mickey dance around each other before getting together and bedding each other. I kind of wanted to punch Dag a few times but I understood why he was acting the way he did. I loved that Hugh and Mickey’s relationship progressed at a natural pace and they took things one step at a time. Mickey had trouble some with his own demons, but Hugh wasn’t immune either. I was glad they managed to work things out at the end. I loved Hugh’s sons, they made for interesting characters and kind of want to see them continue to grow up. Despite Dag being an idiot, I do want to see him happy.

Loved It
Mattt Ortiz did it again. He built two MCs who are adorable and unexpected. The two men meet because of a box of dildos! Matt avoids sterotypes with these characters. His supporting cast is also funny and likeable. Hugh works for Customs and has held up a box of , er, toys. Mickey is co-owner of Desdemona Darkly, an online sex toy company. When he goes to confront Hugh about the box sparks fly. Hugh is definitely interested so when he released the box he visited the company, and got caught in a avalanche of dildos! The two characters do have a few squabbles and troubles but that makes it believable. There is plenty of story to sink your teeth into. I look forward to more in this series. (Hint, hint.)

I just simple enjoyed this story. Was it a huge wordsmith master piece? No, but when a story starts off talking about sex toys and just a couple of chapters in, one of main MC gets put in the hospital because a crate of dildo’s breaks open and hundreds fall on him, really you can’t go downhill from there! Not just the chemistry between the two MC’s but all the characters. Everyone just worked well together. The way that Mickey and Hugh are complete opposites but work perfect together. All silliness aside we really do have a great story going on, one that people can relate to. Quick fun Sunday afternoon read.

I enjoyed this. The best were the story about the departments in the company in-between the chapters in the book. The workers were hilarious!
So, we have an MC that is a hairy bear of a Scotsman, wearing kilts who has really wicked twins. They are adorable in their own way but are like a sack of fleas.
Another MC who is short but hung, can kick your ass and has his own sex toy company. These two kinda shouldn't fit but funny enough, they work. They both have their quirks and have to muddle through their day to day life.
We also have the ex-wife, the ex-boyfriend/business partner, the twins, the sister..... They made this book so well worth reading.

Mickey and Hugh - a great fun read, sexy romp.
I liked the premise of the story being set around Desdemona Darkly - online sex toy shop. Loved the funny interludes and happenings.
Mickey is co-owner and after a memorable second meeting with Hugh, their not always plain sailing journey begins.
I especially liked when they moved in together - how different it was to spending the night (toilet roll direction, cleaning)
With Hugh's family adding more stress and Mickey's business partner - and ex - Dag stirring up the shit, nothing is as easy as it should be.
Good fun, light quick paced writing. Would like more from this group of characters

Mickey and Hugh's story. This read was low on angst and high on laughs and giggles. What a great cast of characters, including wonderful female characters :-) one thing Matt Ortiz does an exceptional job of is bringing us characters who are not perfect, but are immensely lovable. I'm hoping this is the start of a new series, I'd love to see more of this group, and hopefully Dag can be redeemed (but I really, really want to copy Bella and smack the mess out of him).
Also, there are SO many great one liners!! BTW, I'll never go into an Olive Garden without snickering :-)

Once again Matt has created characters you want to cuddle and/or throttle. This story is a bit of a palette cleansing sorbet after the first two of the Oswald series, and you can tell he went towards the light! I was literally LOL'ing with Hugh and his twins. But what do you expect with a story set in and around an online sex toy retailer? I only wonder if Matt will use his mastery of the tapestry and weave these characters with those of his other series. Fingers crossed

I enjoyed this story a lot. What a fun premise for this one - a new book series by Mathew Ortiz; I can't wait to read more. These two guys were perfectly suited for each other, even though it took them awhile to finally get their act together. If you are looking for a fun, sexy read, give this one a try. You won't be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this book. Mickey and Hugh had great chemistry and were definitely hot together. The story focuses on the relationship and there is very little outside conflict. There is a fairly large supporting cast and they add a lot of fun to the story. I recommend this book for a fun, low angst read.

3.9 stars rounded up. This story was a very nice surprise for me, with engaging protagonists and many quirky secondary characters. I enjoyed the author's writing, how the romance was developed and the overall down-to-earth plot. I will also look into other books by Matthew Ortiz.

I'm in love with Mickey and High. It's a great love story of opposites attracting and making love work. What killed me was the intermission and the not quite themed. Those were awesome. I hope there's more to come.
