There is nothing that is much easier to make than a quick bread or loaf. Just mix up the ingredients, put the mixture in the pan, set the timer for around an hour and go do some other things. Come back when the timer goes and you have a lovely, fresh, home-made treat that everyone will love. I often make a loaf/quick bread and once it is well cooled slice it. I then freeze it and if I want a slice or two for a lunch for my husband I just go to the freezer and get a couple of slices. Having a frozen loaf is also great if you end up with unexpected company. Just take several slices out of the freezer, wrap them in paper towel and defrost them in the microwave. Works a treat. As I have said in all my other books, I come from a long line of cooks on both sides of my family. I have been writing about food for well over 35 years and love to create recipes. All of the recipes in this cookbook are ones that my family and I have been making for years. They're tried and true and all are easy to make and turn out exceptionally well every time. You don't have to fuss with these recipes, just whip them up, put them in the pan and bake. And you'll have some great treats.Enjoy!
Marg first started writing about food back in 1975 when she wrote a weekly cooking column for her daily newspaper in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. She continued this practice until she moved to the west.
Once there, she began writing a cooking column for her weekly newspaper and did so for several years.
She published her first cookbook, Traditions of Home Cookies and Muffins in 1992 and it becaue a best-seller. Her second cookbook, Traditions of Home Casseroles Soups and More was published in 1993 and also became a best-seller.
Both books were picked up by a French publisher and distributed in Quebec, France, Belgium and the parts of Africa with a French heritage.
Marg currently has 6 cookbooks on Kindle, in the series, Grandma's Best Recipes. She continues to write and is currently working on a series of books that explore low carb recipes.
Quick and easy recipes for flavorful quick breads. Includes some unique flavor options that I look forward to trying for a nice change of pace. Additionally, the author offers a preview of her other works by including a recipe from each of her seven other cookbooks.
The only potential error I noticed is that a couple of the serving amounts seem off, or the author slices her bread much thinner than I do mine! The first recipe makes 2 loaves or 36 servings, while the second recipe only makes 1 loaf but still 36 servings. After that, the recipes that make 1 loaf only serve 16. No nutrition information is provided which is not a negative for me but may be for some readers.
I appreciate this short and relevant handbook with recipes right at hand; it’s an easy flip through when you want to bake a quick and tasty bread.
Best recipes ever!!! I want to try them all. I've already baked the Cinnamon Loaf and the Lemon Loaf and they both turned out perfectly and delicious. They were perfect with coffee in the morning. I look forward to baking the others in the book. I highly recommend it.
This book brought back so many memories of my middle school years up in Wisconsin. My Mom made so many different things that I loved but never got the recipe for. Today we were trying to find the recipe for fruit cake, coffee cake, rhubarb crisp... We will be trying some of the recipes in this book for sure!!!!! New recipe, new memories....
There were some good recipes. I waited until I tried a few before posting a review. Baking from scratch is important to me as it’s healthier & this book sparked ideas for new recipes. Great for any Baker from novice to expert.
The recipes are easy to follow with clear instructions. There are a few new to me recipes that I am looking forward to trying. The bonus recipes at the back were a good idea.
I love all of Grandma's recipes. Recipes are easy to read and follow and use ingredients most people already have in their homes. Good variety of flavors to suit every taste. Grandma's cookbooks are good for every one regardless of baking experience. .
Bakers looking for recipes for quick breads and loaves [sweet and otherwise] will find much to appreciate here. This little book gives readers a variety of recipes, some familiar, some intriguing, all tried, tested . . . and yummy. A mixer will make preparation easier; both experienced and beginning bakers will appreciate the wide variety of recipes and are sure to find breads they will make again and again. Most of the ingredients called for in the recipes are items that are likely to be in every reader’s kitchen; the directions are clear and concise, the preparation easy, the result delicious.

Since the holiday season is here I thought I would review a book to make baking a little easier.. You mix all the ingredients, then in the pan in the oven, set the timer for around an hour. When you come back bread is done. Your family will think you worked hard. This bread can go in the freezer. When you bring it down, put in the microwave on defrost and fresh bread ready to eat. I picked couple recipes to share. There is a cinnamon loaf and belief it or not it has sour milk in it. The banana bread has 1 1\4 c smashed bananas in it. Yum!! I've never hear of Maraschino Cherry Loaf. It has Cherry juice and chopped cherries in it. You must get cherries in every bite. There is also a muffin recipe and a Mom's Meatloaf recipe. There are more bread and goody recipes in this book. Happy Eating
I love to cook and bake and found so many keeper recipes in this cookbook. I can’t wait to try them and plan on making them for gifts. Now days it seems these inexpensive cookbooks never have anything simple and all seem to have fancy ingredients that you never have on hand. This one is the complete opposite. Almost every recipe had everyday items that are kept in your pantry. Can’t wait to start baking.
Plus in the back are a few other types of recipes, cookies, meatloaf, etc. Only 4 stars because I cannot abide the thought of using tomato soup in a meatloaf recipe. A mix of catsup, mustard, and Brown sugar is much better and caramelizes beautifully on top of the meatloaf.
This is a sample of the book and it comes with a small amount of info about the Amish along with recipes for different bread the Amish bake and there simple, and I will definitely be trying these recipes. A great cook book. One day I plan to purchase!
There was actually quite a few recipes I would like try especially since some of them had small amounts of ingredients in this time where everything is running out quickly.
I've already highlighted several titles of recipes I'd like to make right now. I can't wait to bite into a warm piece of bread slathered in melting butter with a cup of coffee or tea. Oh, oh, which recipe should I try first?
*delish stars OMG! SINCE I HAVE TIME (social distancing) I’VE BEEN BAKING & COOKING LIKE A MAD CHEF. IT’S VERY SOOTHING FOR ME WHEN I’M IN THE KITCHEN, I ZONE OUT. THESE RECIPES ARE QUICK AND EASY TO MAKE. GREAT BOOK! ;D
I have made at least 1/2 of these great recipes…all very easy and every one turned out really delicious..people ask for recipes ,so I recommend the e-book every time /❤️💜🧡🖤💛💚💙🤎
Although the Shirmp Bread made me raise an eyebrow, there were a number of these that sounded really good. The Pizza bread and the chocolate chip loaf are on my list to try with my grandkids who enjoy cooking with me. I like that the recipes were simple enough to do with the kids.
