Months ago, the Battlecruiser Alamo left on its epic voyage across unknown space to find the Cabal. After so long without word, the ship has been written off as lost. When an abandoned starship appears at Spitfire Station with news of the missing ship, Lieutenant-Captain Logan Winter must unlock the puzzle it contains, and the two crews must work together if they are going to prevent the destruction of a long-forgotten human colony by an implacable foe, and at last open the way for the crew of the Battlecruiser Alamo to return home.
I started this book expecting Alamo to quickly get home and then the story would concentrate on the possible war against the Cabal. Of course this isn’t what happens, the author is pretty relentless in piling on the misery with yet another conflict. Unfortunately it was a strange civil war with Alamo caught in the middle. At one point one of the spacemen on the Alamo says ”this mission has been so damn long.” I can sympathise with him, this saga was definitely starting to drag. At the end of the book, the mission finally comes to an end, or does it?
Series Gets Dumber and Dumber the Longer It Goes On
"Battlecruiser Alamo: Ghost Ship," Book 10 of the never ending series, is another exhibit in the demise of the original concept. This book, along with most of its predecessors, just gets dumber, and dumber, and dumber. It fails on every level: as SciFi, as entertainment, as competent writing.
There is an extensive laundry list of why this book and its author, a "Mr. Tongue," are so bad. Suffice it to say the writing, editing, and proofreading are abysmal, failures in just about every way. The storyline, plots, characters are not only ridiculous in their stupidity, they are also thinly disguised versions of previous books in the series, and blatantly "borrowed" from numerous other books and screenplays.
If it wasn't for the fact that I read this book via the small, monthly fee of Kindle Unlimited, I would never have wasted my time. The series and its author, "Mr. Tongue," are not worth a dime.
This series just keeps on getting better . The only reason I only gave it 4 stars was because of it being shorter than the normal books in the series. Now on to the book it was great , a page turner that was action filled and just kept you glued to it. This is one of my favorite series and I'm always Very satisfied when I'm done reading them. If you are into space action books , with a storyline, the you will love this series.
The tenth novel in the series finds the Alamo on its way home to Spitfire station. Investigating a world destroyed by nuclear warfare, the crew find clues indicating that the planets inhabitants fled elsewhere. Following the trail the Alamo finds a world under attack. Intrigue, space battles, and small group action ensues. An entertaining addition to a fine series. Perhaps a bit rushed, there's quite a bit of plot for a short 200+ page novel, but satisfying.
I think this book was the best in the series. I actually was so engrossed at one point I missed my subway stop and had to backtrack ( NEVER done that before ).
The story is first rate with twists and turns to keep you going and guessing. First rate space adventure with lots of action.
