When Anatoly Fedorov saw a young woman being led away from him, and safety, during a rescue of trafficking victims, he resolved to do whatever it took to find her. He knew what it was like to spend time in captivity, after being kidnapped as a teenager. He not only saw the fight in her eyes, but an instant and deep connection.
Valerie Walker grew up in a loving family, but the last few months have been nearly impossible to survive. After missing a chance at escape, she struggles to stay positive. She holds out hope that the man with deep brown eyes, and a scar on his cheek, will keep searching for her.
Their connection formed in a millisecond, but for each of them, it was undeniable. Anatoly will do anything he can to find his angel and bring her back to safety, in his arms.
Oh man. I am so bummed to leave this review, and even more bummed to DNF at 40%. 3⭐️ for the absolutely unhinged adorableness of Toly and Valerie and their instant connection.
But the rest was a mess. My main issue here is the writing. It is sooooooo tell not show. I mean… I honestly started to feel condescended to. It is step by step telling the reader what’s happening. Even much of the dialogue was too wordy, too “tell”, and slightly awkward. I just couldn’t continue. I felt like I was working too hard to make the story feel natural and flow, because it just didn’t with the writing.
But… if you don’t mind that writing style, you may want to give this one a go because Toly and Valerie, two traumatized souls with an instant connection, were honestly so sweet.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 Stars “To all those who like a tortured Hero who finds his Angel.”
This was the best book by far. I I thoroughly enjoyed all the action. The plot despise ratio was good IMO. I don’t usually like the age gap trope, but the years between these two characters didn’t seem to be all that bad. I thought the author handled the emotional trauma and how the people have to really work on it to get over it well. Overall, this was a much more complex storyline than the first two books.
Quotes—“I see a man with a scar on his cheek. Even with the scar, he’s still the sexiest man I’ve ever seen.”
“We will do whatever it takes to get her back. Is she yours?”
