(Professionally 30th June 2015) For five years, Tristan has been preparing himself. For five years, he studied the secrets of the Arcane Art that lives in his very blood and bones. Now, he has become a Mage, a wielder of awesome power, capable of creating and destroying life. The power drawn from the very fabric of reality at his fingertips. Thus he is assigned to a post in his home town which is in need of the assistance that only a true master of the Arcane can provide. And his first great working shall be... Fixing the local irrigation system. And taking care of a premature girl mage. Oh, and his superior is a jerk. Such is the Life of a Mage
Good book but a lot of horrible grammar mistakes that could have easily been corrected if someone above the grade of 6 had gone over it and read it through completely. Seems to jump from even to event without a lot of build up and development, jumping around like a rabbit. Excellent idea and really well thought out just seems rushed at parts.
I found this book very enjoyable. The way magic is used original, and the main character believable. The only reason it lost a star was the editing needs to be done more carefully.
I happened to take a break from the book I was reading and gladly stumbled on to this great story. I would keep your eye on P. Tempest; he writes a good story. Lots and lots of very good characters. These Mages are in a different type of society all together! Please take the time to read this story; it's just plain great.
At times there was confusion. There was need in the displays but the experience was well thought out and the basic storyline was well thought out. The writing needed an editor but the effort was a good read
Wonderful read, with magic and adventure in a fantastic fantasy world, with very believable characters and unexpected twists. Looking forward to the second book in the trilogy.
Editing issues, glossed over plot points, and an issue with time scale
Author makes a note that it has been professionally edited, but it sure doesn't seem that way. There are several instances of random letters, additional punctuation, and missing punctuation. On top of that there are several sentences missing words.
Several 'scenes' appear to have been from an outline, and failed to be fleshed out. In some books it feels like the information isn't discussed, but kept for later. In this book it felt like it was forgotten.
The mission at the end of the book took longer to get there than it did to fix. It felt incongruent with how the rest of the book went.
The book is annoying. The story is intriguing but the editing of the book is horrible. Grammar errors so jarring that they break the spell of the story as you have to stop reading to figure out what was meant. Also annoying is the way the story is told jumping here and there. I quit reading after about 50% and I never do that.
Spelling, grammar, and punctuation are all appalling. Beyond that the story it self was jumbled up, just skipping from one thing to the next. No part of the story was ever completed just random events with no explanation as the how things work out in the end.
I wanted to love this book, but how could I when every paragraph had a misspelled word or random, comma? I understand that writing and editing is hard, but when the errors are as prevalent as they are in this book it's inexcusable.
The afterword says that the book has been professionally edited. My advice is 'get a new editor!' Otherwise, an enjoyable read. I'll look forward to the next book, grammatical errors notwithstanding.
I love this book. Its creative and well thought out. I wanted a book that i could find enchanting and not girly, i would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a hour to them selves.
