I just found a scandal that could destroy the richest man in the city.
I was alone in my apartment typing the final paragraph, when I heard the floorboards creak.
I reached for my phone to call for help as the footsteps moved closer.
Suddenly, a hand shot out from behind and covered my mouth. I fought back, twisting to see who grabbed me.
It was him, the billionaire.
He pulled me into the closet just as a group of men entered my living room.
His voice a whispered growl in my ear,
“These men are here to hurt you. If you want to live, you’re going to have to trust me."

I think my first problem with this book is that the synopsis is truly not a great representation of what the book is mostly about. I just had a really hard time connecting with the FMC and the reasons behind her choices. For these reasons, DNF at 30%

Either this is AI or the writer doesn’t edit or proofread or pay to have it done. By the 42% mark, the phrase, “blank (item) must have cost more than I make in blank(amount of time) no less than 8 times. It was used to describe suits, evening gowns, apartments, etc. It took me completely out of the story to the extent that I started making tick marks to keep track.

Deciding to bring a child into this mess of a story was when I DNF. Also, silly errors that a good spell checker/ proofreader would have found. Sloppy: 'beleive'
"By lying your way into someone's home? By using his daughter to get close to him?"
She's so suspicious about him, for NO reason at all other than a few notes her brother made. There is NO basis for this: "Hunter drops her off and picks her up himself every single day. Rain or shine. I've never seen a dad more devoted." Or more controlling.
Just laughable: "Overprotective. Another word for paranoid. Or another word for guilty." Because he likes to take his kid to/from school?

Unexpected love
Story is a 4.5 for me only because I wanted full disclosure on final consequences for the villian.
Our heroine is moving through life wearing grief colored glasses and fighting every feeling she has. She needs the truth by all means but doesn't see clearly. The hero just wants to protect his little girl and love was not what he was looking for. He knows more than he is telling her. As they nagavaite these feelings and figure out the truth her grief throws a curve ball neither of them saw coming

Hunter. HUNTER. ❤️
He was absolutely the highlight of Guarded for me. I adored him as an MMC, and the overall plot and pacing made this a really quick, easy book to get through.
A couple things kept it at three stars for me. There were some continuity issues that distracted me while reading, and unfortunately I called the whodunit pretty early. The plant felt a little too obvious, so I spent more time waiting for the reveal than actually being surprised by it.
But overall? I don't regret reading it at all. It moved quickly, kept me entertained, and gave me an MMC I genuinely loved.

I give!
By page 68 I'd given up. The MMC has a daughter whose in kindergarten. Her teacher is the MFC's best friend. The teacher helps the MFC get a job as the MMC's nanny. Once she be omes the nanny they play all day, everyday. No more school? Also the teacher and MFC have been best friends for 10 years, they met the 2nd year of college, but the MFC is only 25!? I just can't deal with so many inconsistencies. Trash!

nice book
I enjoyed this book and whilst I had a suspicion, I also suspected other people throughout the book as well.
The ending seemed to happen quite quickly where as the rest of the book was well paced.

Quick, fun read when you need to escape for just a bit.
This story moves fast, but held my attention with enough suspicion and curiosity that kept me guessing through the whole story. Very entertaining reading.

I’ve got to stop getting suckered into these short books. There is no time to develop the chemistry and everything is rushed. Good storyline though but no more shorties.

Great short read
Thoroughly enjoyed this. It was a nice break from the longer stories. Plenty of humor and a mystery. Very enjoyable.

If it didn’t count for the Amazon summer reading challenge, I would have DNFed. There were so many plot holes, storyline inconsistencies, and lack of background to how these people should have been considered in a relationship.

Pretty decent read. Loved the suspense, not my favorite but it didn’t make me want to pull my hair out, so that counts for something.
