Ash might be a side character, but he was my favorite. Something about him pulled me in mentally and I needed more. His big baby moments had me fully invested.
I loved Chelle’s caring personality — she brings heart. Nikki is strong and steady in a way that anchors the group. Griffin’s anxiety gave me anxiety 😂 but it made him feel so real.
Araic and Finn’s relationship was adorable — I’m a sucker for cutesy dynamics and theirs balanced everything out beautifully. 🫣
The book is fast paced and so much happens. I especially enjoyed watching them rebuild the village together . Seeing the team reassure and protect their people gave the story depth beyond the chaos.
Fast. Emotional. Character-driven.

This book had me completely hooked and I had to know what was going to happen next!!! The portrayal of losing a limb felt so real and hit so close to home and the emotions were absolutely on point!!! I am still thinking about it and I desperately need the next book!!!
Thank you Ember Rain for allowing me an Advanced Readers a copy of this book! This is my honest review and completely voluntary 🖤
It’s fast paced, very characterdriven, and a lotttt happens throughout the story, so it kept me pretty invested the whole time. I loved the group dynamic and watching everyone try to rebuild the village while also dealing with everything they’ve been through. Griffin felt really real to me — his mental health and anxiety ridden self made everything feel more real and very easy to connect with. Nikki is steady in a way that helps keep the group grounded and balanced, and I loved how caring Chelle is and how much heart she brings to the group. Ariac and Finn also had some really sweet moments that balanced out some of the heavier parts of the story. Overall it’s emotional, chaotic at times, and very found family focused. If you like fantasy that focuses on the characters and relationships while still having a lot going on in the story, this one is definitely worth picking up. I’m curious to see where the story goes next!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to ARC read!
I received this as an ARC—sharing my honest thoughts and opinions.
This one definitely hooked me right away, but then the pacing shifts and takes its time. It kind of reflects what the characters are dealing with internally, which I appreciated, even if it felt a little uneven at times. There’s a strong idea here, I just found myself wanting more depth in certain areas.
The beginning threw a lot at me all at once with the characters, so it took a bit to get settled, but once everything started clicking, it was easier to follow.
Griffin and Nikki worked really well together—they have that balance where they steady each other when things get heavy. Ash stood out the most to me though. His storyline hit the hardest, and his struggles felt genuine. I’m definitely interested in seeing how his story continues in the next book.
I received this book as an ARC. All opinions are my own.
The story opens at a fast pace before gradually slowing down, a shift that mirrors the evolving mindset of the characters. There’s a lot of potential here, though at times I wished the narrative had been more fully developed. The introduction of numerous characters early on can feel a bit overwhelming, but as the story unfolds, they each begin to take shape. Griffin and Nikki are especially well-matched—they balance and ground one another in a way that feels natural and compelling. Ash, however, stood out as my favorite. His journey through trauma felt raw and authentic, marked by both highs and lows that made him deeply human. I’m especially interested to see how his healing continues in book two.
