Emit After Emit
Sixteen should be a year of birthdays, teenage crushes, and the small joys of growing up. For Emit, it starts that way. Surrounded by family and friends, he feels the warmth of home and the laughter of those he loves. But soon he notices things that don’t add up. The familiar feels unfamiliar, and the ordinary begins to shift in ways only he seems to perceive.
As he struggles to make sense of the changes around him, Emit must navigate changing family dynamics, the fragility of friendship, and the small moments that define a life. Emit After Emit is about holding on, letting go, and the courage it takes to face the world even when it feels like it is moving without you.

WARNING… You will end this book cursing the author… Just grab some kleenex instead.
Book review - Fiction - Kindle Unlimited - YA - Coming of age - DEBUT!!!
Title: Emit After Emit by Sean W Willson
⭐ Star Rating: 5 🎯 Vibe Check: Get ready for all the feels… PASS!!!!
This book felt like…a warm but emotionally devastating coming-of-age story with a plot twist!
I was hooked… From the cupcakes.. I don’t want to spoil it but it is one of my favorite parts in the book and the story just kept sucking me in.
Did I care about the characters? You have the core friend group… I felt the same way Emit did as things were going on which I really enjoyed and I was really invested in why these things were happening to Emit and the emotional toll it was taking.
Tropes included: Time loop, fractured time, second chances, fragile friendships, grief
Did they deliver? DO THEY EVER!!! They all came together with real finesse. It was actually really clever how all the tropes were weaved together.
Honestly this was some master storytelling. Did not know it was a debut and I am not sure I believe that…
This book made me feel: complex and varied emotions. I felt grief in my life and it brought that to the surface… It made me chuckle.. I was shaken to my core a few times… Happy, sad, angry.. You name it, the emotion hit me and it was a NOVELLA! How does an author pack so much into so few pages? I still don’t know.
This book might make you: reflect like your life depends on it. No joke. I held my kids a little tighter for a few days. It might make you question time as a construct…
What Worked: The genre mash ups… I thought it was a really creative way to storytell. I loved the character arcs and the dynamics. It was well paced and heartfelt.
What didn’t work: I didn’t find anything that didn't work for me. It was one of the best books I’ve read this year.
Perfect for readers who love….. YA novels who bend the reality of realism in a believable way.
🚫 Not for readers who dislike… grief in their books. It will kick you right in the feelers.
😈 Petty Complaint… I ugly cried… I could have done without that
All in all superb!
Thank you to @seanwritesfiction for giving me the opportunity to read your amazing book.

I was so excited for this to be released and Sean you did not disappoint! Absolutely amazing, I could not put it down (although my body decided I needed sleep at 1am, rude). Such a rollercoaster of emotions and I loved it. Beautiful piece of work!

Emit After Emit by Sean W. Willson is an imaginative time travel adventure for teenagers, but the story pulled me in from the very first chapter. Emit After Emit is about holding on, letting go, and the courage it takes to face the world even when it feels like it is moving without you.
It’s Emit’s 16th birthday, and his little brother, Nolan, bursts into his room. He is eager to kick off the celebrations. Emit spends the day hanging out with his friends, but what he’s really looking forward to is finally telling Maya how he feels. Their conversation unfolds exactly the way he hoped, and he goes to bed feeling lighter, happier, and more certain about his future than ever.
But the next morning, everything tilts.
Nolan suddenly looks older. The house feels… off. And when Emit checks the date, his stomach drops — it’s his 16th birthday again, only now it’s 2027. Somehow, an entire year has vanished, and he and Nolan are the same age. Time hasn’t just slipped… it’s looping around him.
Emit is stuck at sixteen.
Why? How? And is there any way back to the life he remembers?
To find out, you’ll have to dive into Emit After Emit by Sean W. Wilson. It’s just under 200 pages, making it a simple and quick read.

It’s Emit’s 16th birthday, and his younger brother, Nolan, wakes him up to start the celebrations. He has a fun day with his friends, but is most excited about telling Maya that he likes her and hopes she likes him back. The conversation goes exactly as he expected, and he goes to bed happier than he’s ever been. He wakes up the next day, and his brother looks older all of a sudden. It’s Emit’s 16th birthday all over again, except now it's 2027, and he’s lost a year of his life. But now he and Nolan are the same age. What’s going on? He’s fallen into some kind of time loop, and he appears to be forever 16. Does he ever find his way back to his regular timeline? You’ll need to read Emit After Emit by Sean W Wilson to find out.

Sean manages to capture the complexity of being a teenager in the modern world — jealousy, comparison, first encounters with grief, and the vulnerability that comes with romantic feelings - in under 200 pages.
I came away with a clear sense of each character. Maya, in particular, stood out to me — she is remarkably wise for a teenager — and Nolan is the kind of brother we all wish we had.
I also couldn’t help but pay close attention to the meaning behind the characters’ names. Maya means “water” in Hebrew, and water sustains life; this felt like a fitting reflection of her nurturing qualities. Nolan means “noble,” which aligns beautifully with his respectful, brave nature — especially in how he carries his bisexuality. And of course, Emit, the reverse spelling of “time,” felt especially intentional. My sense is that a great deal of care went into choosing these names, and it shows.

I was selected to be a beta reader from TikTok. I went in with low expectations but fell in love with the nostalgic feel of the book. It felt like my teenage years but had such a deep underlying set of emotions. I fell in love with the characters, Nolan in particular. They had such chemistry and love. I think I appreciate this more as an adult than I would have if I was a teenager.
About half way through the book i realized there was something deeper happening and i loved the way it came together. Felt like a warm mug of tea (IYKYK😉)
I wish it was longer!!!!!! Although the speed of the book felt right, I wish I had more time with some of the characters.
Would recommend even though it was just a beta version.

This was a fast paced book that kept my attention all the way through. I was genuinely curious about where it was headed and loved how everything came together in the end.
The characters were well developed and easy to invest in, which made the story even more compelling. The writing style leans a bit young for me, but that didn’t take away from the book - if anything, it makes it easy to devour, especially for readers who like to move quickly through a story.
I finished the book wishing I could know more about what took place at the end. Even though it gives you enough to connect the dots, I was invested and eager for more detail.

A few chapters in and this book hooks you in a way that makes you want to read more to find out what will happen next. The mystery just grows throughout and the interactions between the characters change as the story goes on in a way that makes the story significant and impactful.
Overall I liked how the main character grew in the story, how the author showcased how time can change everyday moments and relationships. The progression felt in line with those teenage years full of emotions and hormones. The final lesson impacted in a hard but meaningful way as well.
I'd love to read more by the same author, I'm curious what else he may write in the future!

This was a fast paced, but very interesting book. It had characters that really made you want to keep reading, and made you want to learn more about them.
I definitely loved how the characters were aged to be younger, because it made me feel like they were more energetic, and had more detail. I also loved the suspense of certain parts of the book, especially near the end, when everything starts to make sense.

I was a beta reader through an early audience campaign.
This book hit home for me. I have a special relationship with my grandparents and this book described it so perfectly. It will forever have a place in my heart.
I also love that I got two copies of the story, a beta reader and an edited one a month later. The progress was soooooo good. The story was amazing before and the edited one came to life for me. The words he picked were perfection.

Emit after Emit is a coming of age story following Emit after his 16th birthday. His life mysteriously resets every year, but why? All his friends grow and pass him but he stays 16.
Personally I was heartbroken 💔 Sean how could you write that? I won't spoil it but it was hard to read the rest knowing what happen. But it was a happy ending after all. To quote "It's ok to be upset when things get hard. But we never give up. Sometimes all it takes is a different perspective on the situation."

what a touching story omg🥹 this book was so bingeable and I felt so attached to the characters by the end of it. The message overall felt so impactful, I feel like a new person having read this book. The logic of the plot did confuse me in some ways at the beginning, but by the end it wrapped up beautifully and I feel the meaning deeply in my bones. I hope to read more books by this author, this genre is one of my favourites!!

When Sean reached out to me, I was unsure about reading a beta version. I’m so glad I did. It’s outside of my normal queer love story genre, but I fell in love with the characters.
I got through it very quickly because I needed to know what happened.
Special call out for the representation in the book, the way he portrayed those side characters made them so relatable.
Loved it.

Loved this book, went into it completely unknowing and I was pleasantly surprised by the story. It was a hugely nostalgic, a coming of age story with a twist.
I loved the relationships not only with his friends/love interest but with his parents, grandparents and brother too
Highly recommend this read, it’s a short one but you will fall in love with the characters!!

I deeply enjoyed this read. A coming of age story that speaks to some of our deepest questions: what do we mean to one another? What would we sacrifice in order to get precious moments back? Who will be there for us? And who will we always be there for?
Wilson has crafted a fast-paced, touching debut.

I was an arc reader for Sean’s other book and I enjoyed it so much I wanted to read this one. THIS MAN IS SUCH A GOOD STORYTELLER. I swear he knows how to make me cry and smile at the same time. It was a short but STUNNING read. FR I think this was the most poetic endings of a book I’d ever read. I sobbed so hard. But came away still thinking about my life differently.

Emit After Emit stands out as a coming-of-age story. The story follows a main character who is frozen in time while those around him continue with their lives. At its core, this is a book about friendship and the painful, beautiful journey toward acceptance. It is emotional and makes you reflect on life and time.
It is a unique story that kept me turning pages. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

This book was heartbreak, confusion, friendship, and love from beginning to end. The plot reveal felt like just a small comment that was made and unfolded in a profound and beautiful resolution, that isn't perfect but good. Just like real life isn't perfect but good. I can't wait to read more books by this author.

I got to read this book through an ARC club I joined. It was such a fun read. Fast paced and kept me hooked every chapter. I didn’t expect it to go beyond surface level, but within 3 chapters I already felt connected to the message. Life is messy, time is cruel.

This book was both super sweet and sad. It asks some interesting questions, and makes you think. Emit is very well written. The premise is very interesting, and made more so by being written in the voice of a 16 year old.
An easy read with a cool premise.
