I recently watched "Mouryou no hako" anime and immediately fell in love with how complexly enthralling and twisty it was. So I obviously had to check out authors other published works.

originally i wanted to read the novel, but apparently it went out of print and I didn't really want to read the ebook version. So instead, I decided to read the manga adaptation. It's safe to say this is as much as a mindfuck Mouryou no hako was, infact i felt this was way more fucked up in the sense when climax arrived, it was like watching a can of worms open, unpleasant yet captivating.

My favorite character? Kyogokudo Chuzenji, ofc. He's extremely smart, perceptive, broody, owns a fucking bookstore, I mean....what's not to love eh? There's just something morbidly fascinating about him, I like it.

I'll be binging more of Natsuhiko Kyogoku's work this week.

I need to find the translated version of the original novel. I was greatly impressed with the story upon finishing it. It's a bit of a messed up tale but for a story that based on myth & urban legend, the author was able to give scientific explanations to the things that happened and in a way, things did make sense. The rating is for this volume alone and for the overall rating for the series is 3.5 stars.

This is the fourth volume that concludes the manga adaptation of Natsuhiko Kyogoku’s novel, “Ubume no Natsu”, or “The Summer of the Ubume”, the first entry in the author’s “Hyakki Yakou” series.

This was a great read, and while I’m concurrently watching the serialized broadcasts of the anime, an excellent way to get more of the lore. There are more manga adaptations of the novel series, and I will definitely be reading them as soon as I can manage.

I love how the mystery was unraveled bit by bit. I enjoyed the big reveal just as much as I did in Mouryou no Hako. My only complaints is how incredibly annoying Sekiguchi was throughout this series. I’ve been wanting to shake some sense into him since the first volume but in this one I just wanted him gone.
