It’s no secret that I love the way Joshua Williamson writes the Batfam. He has such a deep understanding of these characters and their relationships to each other, and this series has been incredible proof of that. It’s there, even in the tiny montage of panels of Bruce with each of his kids/allies in Damian’s alternate future. It’s obvious that Bruce is a world-class fighter and tactician, but it’s always been the emotional and familial exploration of this character where his stories are the most meaningful to me.
Nobody needs to be reminded of just how great Dan Mora’s art is, but there is two things I wanted to shout out in particular. First, the giant eyes on Alfred Wayne. That’s a seriously effective design choice. Second, the colors by Tríona Farrell. They’re not perfect, but they accentuate some things (like, again, Alfred Wayne’s giant eyes) so well that it absolutely enhanced the book overall for me.
Just a final thought— One of the times I met Williamson at Comic Con, he asked me (in Ravager cosplay lol) if I thought Jason and Rose were secretly in love. I said, “you write the books. You tell me.” And so he did, right here.

*4.5

Joshua Williamson can write Damian Wayne better than almost anyone else, and Joshua Williamson understands the Batman/Robin dynamic better than almost anyone else.

Also I would do ANYTHING for little Alfie Wayne.

This entire mini-series was such a blast. I went into the first issue not fully knowing what to expect, and it ended up being a really fun and interesting dive into Batman’s psyche, while also doing some great world-building for DC K.O. and the Bat-Family as a whole.

That said, while I did have a lot of fun with the final issue, I couldn’t help but feel like it didn’t fully close the book on some of the lessons and character arcs we’d been following. I totally get that a big goal of this story is getting Batman back into the K.O. tournament, but I wish the ending felt a bit more standalone instead of leaning so hard into “go read DC K.O. #4 to see what happens next.”

Still, this issue gave us a really strong look at Damian Wayne, not just as an important hero in Gotham, but as someone who clearly has a bigger role to play in the DC universe and within the Bat-Family!

I also really loved how the fight between Bruce and Damian played out, especially the choice Bruce makes during that confrontation. It felt meaningful and very in-character. I think once DC K.O. wraps up, this mini-series is going to carry a lot of weight looking back on it. I just wish the conclusion had landed a bit more firmly on its own before moving on to the next thing. Overall though, definitely recommend and am happy I picked it up!

ALFIE MY BELOVED. I WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR THAT LITTLE BOY.

Seeing Bruce as a Grandpa and the montage of him getting to spend time with his children and their families was so precious. Those characters deserve all the happiness and peace shown in this issue. This issue also has increased my desire to read more Damien Wayne stories.

Unlike many of these tie-ins this has a greater purpose. A great arc for Bruce

This is Batman's "For the Man Who Has Everything".

No kidding. Issues 3&4 crafted one hell of a story.

I loved this ending enough to consider catching up on the overall DC K.O. event! It’s not only wish-fulfillment for Bruce to see a safe Gotham, but it scratches an itch I didn’t know I still had in seeing the Batfamily all grown up in their pre-Flashpoint costumes. That era in between Infinite Crisis and Flashpoint (2005-2011) is my favorite for DC, so to see those costumes again in this paradise dimension really did something for me. And that’s doubled by the main point of this book: it’s not just Gotham that needs Batman, but his family too. This miniseries feels like a big step for Bruce in his overall publication history in that he chooses to be Batman for his family over vengeance or service. I really love that idea, and I’d love to see this universe, or at least this Damian variant, reappear in some Elseworlds comic. It’s one of those few issues that I feel like we’ll look back upon in retrospect as a pivotal moment for the character for the right reasons rather than some shock value nonsense. This was great enough that I’ll pick up the trade paperback once it releases. It’s another 10/10 from me.

Batman finally got his utopia. Everything he’d ever wanted, but still couldn’t give up the mantle of the Bat. But he finally admitted the truth. He’s not the best.

Ooooh, very very interesting. I think we are about due for another shake up in the pages of DC KO #4, especially based on that ending. But what a fantastic issue overall, Mora on art and Farrell on colors are completely showing off at this point and even if what I theorize may happen out of this doesn’t happen, I genuinely hope batman picks up some character development from this series that actually sticks this time, lol. The first page we open to is an immediate strike to the heart as it is a fully illustrated page by Damian’s son, Alfred, who we met at the end of the last issue as he covers his father’s life from training with the league, to traveling with his pet dragon and grandpa batman, and eventually becoming the new batman to truly save Gotham. Bruce is fully aware that the world he is in is a construct by the heart of Apokolips. But it has seemingly made the perfect prison…one Bruce does not want to leave, one where he is happy, but also one where Damian and some of the other heroes in this world have also realized it isn’t real and recognize that he needs to fight to leave to continue the fight against darkseid. But the more this older Bruce spends time with his grandson, the more he wants to stay. But every time Bruce closes his eyes, the heart of Apokolips speaks to him. Reminding him that this is not the end and that he is being punished and he must fight, and if he does not fight he will be punished further and his heart will be hurt. Damian is smart enough to know the world isn’t real and wants to help Bruce proceed, other heroes in the world aren’t as convinced but Damian did manage to convince the justice legion to let him borrow some tech, but the group that will always stand behind them…is the rest of the bat family, who all come when they are called. It’s honestly so great to see all of these characters aged up alongside Bruce. We have Dick (back with the ponytail, lol), Barbara, Tim, Stephanie, Cass, Kate, Jean-Paul, who I think is Luke Fox in the way back, Duke, and the biggest surprise of them all…Jason with his daughter and his partner Rose Wilson!! That’s a wild twist I certainly didn’t see coming, but I can’t say I don’t rock with it. They are all gathered to help Bruce get stronger to fight darkseid and to win the tournament so their world can be made real, they rely on him specifically to make the families and future they have built together real. That’s a heavy burden. Bruce tried to distance himself from his family (what else is new), to only focus on the fight with darkseid, but he found it impossible. He trained with them, sat down and ate with them, laughter with them, learned more about their lives and their stories of tragedy and triumph (which I have to admit could just be a further strategy from them so that if he does win he can reconstruct their world properly, lol, they only have one basket to put their eggs in after all). Bruce surprised himself by working openly outside, the air in the world Damian built just feels safer to him which only makes Bruce further question if this could ever truly be real. But before little Alfred sneaks up on him, we see Bruce working on a new project. It almost looks like he is harvesting and rebuilding the mother box from his suit into something new, something he tells Alfred is called a bat box and it’s meant to be a gift for Damian. This detail comes back later in a very interesting way I can’t help but theorize about, but more on that later.

But for now it is time to fight, all of the bat family is gathered on one rooftop, Damian in his own bat suit as Bruce dawns his to finally fight this out and progress. As they begin to fight, Bruce can see it in Damian’s eyes that he isn’t ready and is holding back…Damian feels the same way about him. The two continue to push each other to fight like they never have before, Bruce can read all the moves he taught Damian and new ones he has picked up since becoming batman, and all of their attacks are filled with a rage and veracity unmatched by any other but they direct all of it back at the heart, not at each other. They go for hours, giving it their all because they owe it to each other. But this is not like the other times, Bruce can’t fight his way to the end as he doesn’t have a choice. The fight finally comes to an end when Damian slashes into Bruce’s shoulder, and begs him to get up and keep fighting…Bruce finally admits that he can’t, he can’t win this fight. Suddenly the test comes to an end and the black void of the heart of Apokolips begins to eat the world. Bruce looks over as he reaches out to Damian and Alfred as Alfred holds the bat box in his hand, yelling to Damian that he knows what to do. And this is where the theory comes in, is it at all possible that mother box is retro fitted to get them out of there safely?! Maybe SuperBoy prime and the time trapper can find them a nice pocket universe to reside and rebuild in? Just a thought, lol. But there is definitely more there. But as batman sits in the void, the heart reveals the final rest was for batman to admit defeat, it would have destroyed that world anyway but now the heart opens a way for batman to seemingly rejoin the tournament. A giant pit of hell fire, a leap of faith, to rejoin and make his family’s world real. Batman stands before this pit changed, before he questioned if there was still a need for Batman, if it would be better if his family took over. But now he knows the truth, his family wants him to be batman as much as he needs them. The heart only thinks it has won, that it has defeated him by putting him against his family, but batman realizes now that it hasn’t been testing him in the way it thinks and instead has been training him to WIN! And now we see as batman takes the leap right into the pages of DC KO #4, I’m very interested to see what happens.

What a wholesome, beautiful last issue. The heart tested Bruce with happiness , and the test was for him to realize he can’t win. To admit defeat.

It’s crazy to think about it. Batman prepared in case he died with a boom tube. The heart liked that he refuses to die so it ran trials to mold him ready to win the whole tournament.

Ultimately, the heart believes that it has broken Bruce, and that now he will be able to kill everyone else and be the cold blooded Omega. BUT what the heart doesn’t realize is that it just got him ready for the fight. The heart wants Bruce’s need to be Batman to disappear because he wants the OMEGA champion. But Bruce has learned that in every scnerio, his kids NEEDED him to be Batman to be great. So Bruce knows he will always be Batman.

Bruce was able to avoid fighting, and killing, his sons, the closest thing he has to a family. Much closer than his allies. So if he could figure out a way to cheat the heart with his sons, I think he will have no trouble finding a way to cheat the heart with his comrades. The hard part is over.

Awesome mini issue !

I think if Batman wins the tournament, he will not change becusss he knows the importance Batman is to his sons!

This was easily my favorite issue of the entire series. It was a refreshing change of pace to see Bruce and the Bat-Family happy, settled, and grown. Williamson clearly aimed to pull at the heartstrings, especially by framing Bruce as a grandfather. Much of the issue focuses on his relationship with Alfred in that role rather than his dynamic with Damian, which gave the story a surprisingly warm and emotional core.
Without getting into spoilers, this was a fun and genuinely sweet issue. It moved at a brisk pace and left me wanting more, but in the best possible way. The art was solid throughout, and Damian’s batsuit is especially striking.
I really enjoyed this installment, though I am curious to see how it connects to the larger DC K.O. storyline moving forward. I would definitely recommend this issue and the series as a whole to fans of Batman and the Bat-Family.

This final issue was a good story, again it carried on immediately after where the last one left off however, I really liked this story until the ending; the ending felt kind of stale, I understand that Knightfight was part of a larger storyline but, it was predictable as an ending and I felt like they could’ve done something alternative. I did really enjoy the wholesomeness with the dynamic between Damian and Alfred with Bruce, it would be sweet to see an alternate storyline with these characters and their older lives again.

Man oh man. This was a spectacular ending to a limited series with a lot of moving parts. We get a handful of tender moments, equally heartbreaking ones, and some great action sprinkled in as well. It's a shame we might never get to see more of Damian's world, or something resembling it, but the little bit we got felt special. So glad I decided to give this a chance and go through the effort of hunting down the issues I missed at release.

Low-key the best tie-in for the DC KO event. I’ll be curious to see how Batman re-enters the tournament in the next main event issue, but this is pretty satisfying as its own story too. What does a world look like that no longer needs a Batman? Mora has some fun filling out this world, too, with fun Easter eggs like Dog-Bat. Mora’s style is really leaning into anime here, which is fun to see.

This four part series has been good. It’s propulsive and kinetic but has a big heart. I find the art a bit OTT. It’s stunning but almost a bit much with all the fluorescent colours and so many panels. I wish it would slow down a bit. But it’s still been a good time.

However, I do think I prefer slower, more thinky detective Batman over this style.

Tormenting Batman: the finale. In all seriousness though i did really like this finale, and i think it’s gonna be cool seeing how this ties into KO #4. Sad to see Bruce finally getting the life he wants but not being able to have it.

Qué maravilla de número y que forma de nuevo de humanizar a Bruce, primero como abuelo, y luego mostrando que no siempre puede ganar y aceptando la derrota e incluso mostrando que desea llevar una vida familiar. Qué nivel tiene DC actualmente

In this issue, we see a version of Gotham shaped by Damien Wayne's Batman. It's a touching story with a hint of "It's a Wonderful Life" that gives you a unique perspective into what it means for Batman to evolve. This is a recommended read for all Batman fans.

Bruce is thrust into an alternative future by darkseid. He is being punished for supposedly cheating during the KO event.

He must find a way to win and beat darkseid as this four-parter comes to a conclusion.

doesn't in the way you think it will
