Healing Encounters with Mary: A Guide to Living the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary

Rate this book
Healing Encounters with Mary: A Guide to Living the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary offers personal reflections and Scriptural meditations to enhance your appreciation of the Sorrowful Mysteries. It also provides some strategies for growing in the various virtues associated with each Mystery. You will also learn about various saints who experienced a special connection with the Blessed Mother.

Crosses in this life are unavoidable and suffering is inevitable. The question becomes: How do we approach the thorns which accompany the breathtakingly beautiful roses in our lives? A healthy method of dealing with adversity is to place our troubles in the Blessed Mother’s hands. And what better way to do that, than to ponder the agonies her Son endured for our salvation, as seen through the eyes of Mary?

All too often, I believe, people shy away from the Sorrowful Mysteries because they are trying their best to avoid pain. I count myself among that group. At times I have been so overwhelmed by my own troubles it was difficult for me to spend time contemplating the struggles of Jesus and His mother Mary. But crosses in this life are unavoidable and suffering is inevitable. The question becomes: How do we approach the thorns which accompany the breathtakingly beautiful roses in our lives? It seems to me that a healthy method of dealing with adversity is to place our troubles in the Blessed Mother’s hands. And what better way to do that, than to ponder the agonies her Son endured for our salvation, as seen through the eyes of Mary?

So come along with me on a journey of discovery! As we gain new insights into the sufferings of both Jesus and Mary, we may come to better understand the sources of our troubles, the effects of them on body, mind, and spirit, and the remedies that can make healing possible. With the Blessed Virgin Mary as our guide, we can view the ordeals that we have encountered as landmarks along the route to enlightenment and ultimate union with the God Who loves us both unconditionally and eternally. Let’s not let our crosses go to waste but rather let’s re-purpose them with the aid of the carpenter’s (Joseph’s) wife and his foster son.

This third book by Maria Gallagher started with the introduction: The act of prayer can transform me. …we need to establish hope in our lives. Hope is a gift we can cline to in our most trying circumstances. On page 14, “Jesus is the very embodiment of hope for us all, especially in the challenging times in which we live.

I have marked and highlighted many things that touched me throughout the book. It is a powerful took against evil in this world that gives us strength, endurance, healing, and great graces. I also enjoy the reflections at the end of each chapter for a deeper contemplation on each section and how it pertains to our own lives in this world we live in.

From Romans 12:12 - Rejoice in Hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.
