This is very short so there is not a lot of time to expand the narrative or the characters. And the plot itself is an interesting one...I do like a haunted tree! But I gave it 2 stars not because it was bad, per se, or the writing is bad, but because of the terrible continuity. There must be some weird interdementional something going on with the place. Apparently Eliza can see the willow tree from every.room.in.the.cottage. While in town the charm is in her pocket; she goes home and leaves it in a tin box, goes out again without it but touches it in her pocket; but before going back inside her house, glances up with a thought about the charm being in the box. Huh? The cat (Ink, another great name) seems more aware of what is going on and then Pop! The bad guy appears and all is revealed and the town can finally move forward.
Just finished this book and it was really good. The story was different and it kept me reading to read what was next and what was really happening. I look forward to finding more books by this author. Happy reading.
This author was new to me. I chose the book because of the front cover, I adore cats! What a surprise when I read this short story. Absolutely adored it, funny, scary and beautifully written.
Nice short story. Likable characters, except for the murderer. Plot OK. Small town where all the people are somehow connected to the tree. I enjoyed it. Only 1 problem and I noticed that first review saw it too. Eliza places the charm in a tin and puts it on her table and goes out. On the way home, she puts her hand in her pocket and touches it. But when she gets home, her front door is open and the tin is empty. There is no need for Eliza to have it in her pocket. The author needs to take out that sentence and she can have 5 but for now it is 4*. Read on 04/07/26
