DI Gareth Benedict's team from Gorse Vale, Wales, receives an invite to provide security at the Island Games competition in Ynys Môn. Upon arriving there with DS Rachel Griffith-Thomas and DC Owain Daniel, Benedict clashes with local police leadership about both recent and possible upcoming incidents. His suspicions are proven correct after two separate shootings, one of which is a savage homicide. Athletes from nearly twenty-five small nations are cast into danger, and the malicious violence appears to have roots in both illegal arms activity and a war from years gone by. Granted the latitude to investigate these attacks, Benedict and his team chase criminals they cannot see in a race to protect others and bring the evildoers to justice. A risky endeavor on Benedict's part puts the detectives within striking distances of capturing their foes, but can they track them down before the perpetrators can escape from the island?
