The Quiet Limit #3

The Rosy Shadows

Rate this book
The truth may have set her free—but now it demands a reckoning.

Lai was never meant to live past eighteen. When she uncovered the dark secrets her community was hiding, she didn’t just survive, she learned she had only scratched the surface of her dystopian society’s deceptions.
Now the system is fighting back.

The people she loves are being used as leverage, the experiment is evolving, and rebellion comes at a deadly cost. Every secret uncovered reveals another layer of corruption, and another reason the experiment must be stopped at any price.

Lai never wanted to be a symbol. But if she wants to save the people she loves and claim a future for herself, she will have to become one. She may have escaped and found a sense of freedom, but freedom always comes at a cost.

Dark, gripping, and ultimately hopeful, The Rosy Shadows is the explosive conclusion to The Quiet Limit trilogy, where survival is no longer enough, and freedom must be fought for.

This is a good conclusion to the compelling premise set up in books 1 and 2. This one felt a bit more chaotic than the others, with lots of action and moving parts that were sometimes hard to keep up with. Even though it loses some of the edge of the previous books, it’s still a really engaging read and it’s satisfying to see how everything comes together in the end.

All three books combined created a very unique dystopian trilogy that I am glad to have read!

A great conclusion to this debut YA dystopian trilogy!!

We continue to follow Lai, Auryn and their friends while they fight against the corrupt society and system now known as LALI, the council that determines death dates when you're born. They are determined to fight against them and convince society and the communities they should be free of their control and power.

This trilogy focuses on themes of freedom, rebellion, grief and survival while also dealing with the aftermath of their discoveries and the effect on the people around them.

I absolutely loved the character development and arcs throughout the trilogy. I fell in love with our main characters and I am a bit sad our journey is over. I especially loved our favorite animal companion Tith!!

This world was so cool and innovative and I loved the concept! There was some really great twists and turns at the end and I loved the new characters we got introduced to.

I do wish there had been a little bit pre of a "reminder" at the beginning of the book of what happened in the first two. It had been awhile since I read it and felt a little reminder blurb worked into the story would have been really great.

I also found the first 1/3 pacing to be a little bit slow because of that and also just took a bit to get going. But 2/3 in I couldn't put it down!

I felt the trilogy was wrapped up well and all my questions were answered but it did feel a bit rushed! I could have done with a bit more of a complex ending. I did love the epilogue tho.

I can't wait to see what this author comes up with next!

The final instalment in the dystopian trilogy written by a beloved indie author.

Without spoilers, we have a lot of loose ends at the end of book 2 and we start getting some answers. Lai, your favorite cat, and their loved ones are desperate for change. But change never comes easy.

It’s always bittersweet coming to the end of a series and I am excited to see what Trista puts out next.

This was such a great ending to this series!! Talk about emotional! All throughout this series, there are certain moments that are written so beautifully, you just have to stop and admire that someone’s mind came up with that!! Trista is a phenomenal writer. Every setting is so well described and easy to picture.

I don’t want to say too much about the plot, as this is the 3rd book in the series, but I loved the family aspect in this book. The protectiveness over each other, and the camaraderie as they come together through suspenseful times. And Tith of course!! He is the perfect companion. Every mention of him brought a little joy! I loved learning even more about the futuristic world and meeting some new characters as well.

I really liked how everything wrapped up. Dystopian is one of my favourite genre’s and this series packs a big punch!!

Trista, thank you so much for allowing me to read an early copy! I am so excited to see what your future holds with this series, and any more books to come.

This concluded the series in an action packed way with tons of twists and crazy turns, as I'd expect Trista to do so. I felt like so much was going on and then the answer to the root problem of everything became a somewhat simple realization, but still extremely intricately tied to other complications.

I felt like I was on a whirlwind adventure myself with Lai and her gang to figure out how to live and get to their version of being free. Zosia was probably my favorite character, slightly overriding Tith who basically is the mascot of hope in this series. As Trista mentioned in her acknowledgements, I was glad for the resolve from finishing this book and this story will definitely live rent free in my head for a good while.

Thank you to the author for graciously providing an eARC copy for my honest opinion and thoughts. Pick this one up and I guarantee you that you won't be bored, very unputdownable.

I absolutely love this dystopian trilogy, and Trista wrapped up this story beautifully. There were major plot twists, emotional moments, and all of my questions were answered.

I don’t want to share too much about The Rosy Shadows since it’s the final book, but I will say that this trilogy is packed with action, suspense, and multiple twists. I really loved Trista’s elaborate world building, and the character development throughout the series is truly amazing. I’ll admit that I am sad to be leaving these characters, especially Lai, Auryn, and Tith 🥹

(Disclaimer - I received a copy in advance from the author.) I've read several dystopian fiction series, and sometimes, partway through, a series feels like the author just rushed through the writing or changed the plot to try to appeal to a slightly different audience or publishing house. I did not get that feeling with this series. Each book felt very thought out, and relationships between characters and plot events were intertwined deliberately. I flew through reading the first 2 books, and the third was the same. Characters' backstories were well developed, which led to having several favourite characters. It felt like the author had a plan for every detail in the writing (I'm not sure if the writing process actually works like that - I'm guessing it doesn't...?). The pace of each book felt consistent, and it was easy to get hooked early on. I did appreciate that, while referencing the plot of the previous books, she didn't unnecessarily summarize and explain everything from the first 2 - the writing just jumps into the plot and steadily keeps going. I could definitely see this series being turned into a movie(s). It's so interesting!

Thank you to Trista for this eArc!

"𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭, 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞."

When I started reading this book I was immediately drawn right back into this world. There were some “good” moments that really pulled at my heartstrings — & I even teared up a bit. I was so ready to see how this story would conclude!

As a whole I really enjoy Trista’s writing. I never stopped being suspicious of a character, my favorite really, tho there truly was nothing to be suspicious about. I clearly just trusted no one. 😅

"𝐍𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐬, 𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐝. 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐢𝐝." — as a new mom, this hit.

Many times I wanted to shake Lai and tell her to chill the fuck out, listen to those around you and stop just reacting & then remembering she’s only 19. lol.

I suppose my only critique is the pacing at times, there were parts that felt like filler and slowed down momentum, which could just be a me thing because I am also a slow reader. I would have liked more of a constant rise vs peaks and valleys. Then when it did reach the climax and conclusion it felt too quick.

As a whole this is a good series! Definitely check it out! The first book still remains my favorite. ❤️

An epic conclusion to a fan favourite dystopian trilogy. The Rosy Shadows follows the final journey of Lai and her group of heroes who embark on a final quest littered with pain, suffering, and a little bit of hope to tie it all together.

Dystopian novels always have a fond place in my heart, as we continue to live in a world where there is a big margin of wealth disparity the social commentary in the Quiet Limit and its follow-up books lend to the conversation around social rules, societal expectations, and demanding truth and justice. That one person can change lives, and that the importance of speaking out and trying to change society is truly rebellion.

Fans of the Hunger Games and the Maze Runner would love this action packed Dystopian world, following our ever- eager Lai Hart who demands the truth and will stop at nothing to protect her friends and family.

Thank you so much for the arc copy Trista! It has truly been such a fantastic and wild ride!

4.5 ⭐️This is the final installment in a local Canadian indie author’s trilogy, The Quiet Limit #3—and what a ride it’s been.

Going into this final book, I was really hoping to see how everything would come together after all the buildup—and it definitely delivered on that front. The ending completely surprised me in the best way, tying things together in a way that felt satisfying and impactful.

That said, I was left with a few lingering questions, which isn’t usually my favorite way to close out a series. I always love a fully tied-up ending, but I know that’s not everyone’s style.

Overall, this was a strong and memorable finale. And for a debut trilogy? Seriously impressive. Trista is officially on my radar, and I can’t wait to see what she does !

A great conclusion to The Quiet Limit trilogy. We were left with a lot of loose ends in the second book, and this third installment ties a lot of them up. The path the book takes feels chaotic, but leading a rebellion in a dystopian society isn't usually done in a straight, clean line. There are some twists that had my jaw on the floor, and certain characters I was never really sure I could trust.

There's always something bittersweet about finishing a series, and I even teared up a bit on the last page. I fell in love with so many of the characters and their stories (especially Tith 😸) and am so glad they got a worthy ending.

💕: implied intimacy
⚠️: death/killing, mild language, rebellion, brainwashing

This was a great action packed ending to such a fun and interesting dystopian series! If you enjoy YA dystopian/utopian books, I definitely recommend checking out this series. It was full of so many great twists and turns and I enjoyed every moment of this trilogy. I loved the interesting world that Trista built with the concepts of YODs (years of death) known at birth, the communities and all of the different characters we met along the way. I can’t wait to see what Trista has in future.

I’m grateful to have been an arc reader for all three books in this trilogy! It has been so cool to watch this story unfold. It’s reminiscent of The Giver and The Hunger Games, but also something else on its own.

In this climactic ending, so much happens and all the threads are addressed and pulled together in the end. Even with so much going on, the pacing was excellent and it wasn’t overwhelming.

I love the variety of relationships and emotions portrayed from parents to siblings to romance and friendship. It’s been fun to watch these characters develop and grow.

Thanks for sharing, Trista 😊
