'I once forsook your heart until the twilight of our years. For the rest of my life, I promise you endless days of peace.'

This is the end of a series that spanned over eleven volumes, a journey filled with emotional highs and lows. Having concluded this tumultuous yet beautiful danmei, I acknowledge that despite not every volume being equally cherished, the series remains a favorite that I would readily revisit at any moment.

The final volume is cheerful, packed with playful and joyful extras that offer a sense of closure. After enduring significant suffering and hardships faced by the characters, along with my own emotional struggles, everyone finally earns a somewhat happy ending, a long-awaited respite.

While some readers might feel disappointed that this volume does not center on Chu Wanning and Mo Ran, I personally feel satisfied with the additional content focusing on Xue Meng, who is my favorite, the darling of the heavens. These extras reveal his life after the main events, providing much-needed peace and reassurance. I appreciate that Xue Meng is not as alone as I previously believed and that he is gradually healing from past traumas.

A particular highlight is the delicate portrayal of the relationship between Xue Meng and the Mei twins. I adore their relationship, and I wish it had been explicitly canon rather than left ambiguous, yet the ambiguity itself adds an alluring layer to the relationship. I commend the author's effort in developing distinct personalities for the twins: Mei Hanxue, who is flirtatious and teases Xue Meng as an expression of affection, and Mei Hänxue, the older twin, who displays love through mockery.
Their relationship is just full of warmth, born of friendship, and that's the best love story in my opinion.

Although Chu Wanning and Mo Ran appear in the volume and there is dedicated content for them, they serve more as side characters. While I wished for a little more of their story, I still felt assured by the glimpses into their happiness and ongoing love.

I can't end this review without praise for the heartfelt farewell message from the author, which was beautiful.

Overall, this last volume met all my expectations perfectly, providing both laughter and emotional satisfaction.

TWO LIFETIMES, FOREVER YOURS.

2022–2026: THE END OF AN ERA.

I once forsook your heart until the twilight of our years. For the rest of my life, I promise you endless days of peace.

Eleven volumes and more than a million words later, the epic called Husky and His White Cat Shizun has finally come to an end. I can’t believe we won’t have any more cover reveals. For more than a year, the waiting, the anticipation of having something new became an integral part of my life. Now that it’s over, I honestly don’t know how to cope.

My heart is clearly divided into two parts. I am sad, but at the same time, knowing that the little boy who once wanted to save earthworms and the divine, immortal beauty who wanted to help that little boy save those tiny creatures, who stood by his side are finally happy and free brings me comfort. Nothing can hurt them anymore. What lies ahead is a beautiful future, a future that came at the cost of countless sacrifices, fought for tooth and nail, but one that promises forever.

From the first page to the last, this volume is pure joy. After all the trauma we endured through the last ten volumes, it was much needed. It starts with our peacock Mengmeng’s blind date adventures. My boy ends up going on multiple dates with different people among them his own biological father, who somehow (“God knows how”) ended up there; then our Tata, who wanted to make Wanning jealous but ended up being the jealous one himself, such a dummy. Then, of course, we have the Mei twins. Younger Mei is like, “It’s my mission to annoy you until you can’t think of anyone else but me,” and older Mei is like, “I’ll be mean to you until you notice me.” Seriously, it’s a shame that Meimeng isn’t canon, but imagination is free, so in my head they are happily married.

All the cross-dressing and dates were too much fun. We even got a female version of our Wanning (ughhh, so pretty!).

Now, this book might be a little underwhelming for those Erha fans who were waiting for more Ranwan extras, because its primary focus is Xue Meng, with only some Ranwan content. But that’s not a problem for me, I love Mengmeng dearly, and I’m happy to see him healing.

As I said before, imagination is free. I can imagine Ranwan living a long, happy life together from mundane summer afternoons to new adventures, adopting more dogs or cats, Mo Ran inventing new dishes for Wanning, I can imagine it all. A happy, healthy, carefree life… and then, of course, meeting again in their next lifetimes. After all, they are soulmates and meant to be. This healing arc is so satisfying. Those sleepless nights plagued by nightmares won’t feel unbearable anymore. They will stay together, and their love will chase those bad dreams away.

In the previous volume, we saw many people being hostile toward Ranwan, but in this one, apparently everyone is a Ranwan shipper and I’m happy about that. Yes, the ship is sailing high! I was low-key hoping for a Shimei cameo, but it’s okay if they never meet again. Anyway, I have to add something else... I like Jiang Xi. I can’t say he’s my favorite, but he’s a complex character, and I feel lucky to have some pages centered around him.

Never in my life have I read a series this long where every single book is a six-star read. I’m serious, this series has changed my life and my perspective on love. It has given me so much more than I could have ever asked for. This final installment isn’t just healing Ranwan, it’s healing us readers too. Thank you, dearest author.

I’m still waiting for my copy to arrive, so I’m skipping the author’s notes for now. I’ll read them later and come back here to properly thank Meatbun, my gorgeous queen.

(I got the picture from Pinterest. Credit goes to the rightful owner. Please let me know if they allow re-posting or not.)

XUE IS BEAUTIFUL! XUE IS BEAUTIFUL!

Whether in this life or the previous one, regardless of which personality or soul—thank you, Mo Ran. Thank you for being here. Thank you for giving me the best birthday of my life.
I used to have a shizun, but those celebrations weren’t genuine. You used to have a mom, but your lives were too hard; you couldn’t even eat a proper meal. Now, all that’s in the past. I’ll remember the day you were born too—on that day, I was still in the temple, ignorant of the mortal realm. I had no idea the person with whom I’d spend the rest of my life had come into this world.
But I’ll be by your side this year, and every year after. From now on, we’ll always be together.

They’d traversed two lifetimes, arriving at last in this idyllic refuge nestled between the rivers of Jiangnan. Nanping Mountain was a place of serenity and prayer, where they could hear the chants and evening bells of distant temples. They’d been each other’s salvation for two lifetimes and survived all their mortal trials. All these years later, fate still bound them together as tightly as ever, inseparably entwined.
At last, peace was theirs.
Mo Ran knew he’d spend a lifetime saying to Chu Wanning, Happy birthday. May your days be filled with peace and joy.
Someday, snow would dust his hair, and frost would dye his brow. Even then, he would guard the flame of his life.
I once forsook your heart until the twilight of our years. For the rest of my life, I promise you endless days of peace.

4.7/5 🌟

Sometimes, I sit there in sheer awe of how Meatbun is so good at convincing you that all the shenanigans you read are worth it! In the end, it all works out. You just have to go with the flow and let yourself be whisked away by her silly and unexplainable plotting and storytelling. It’s such a ride!
What utter madness!
What chaos! Bahaha! ꉂ(˵˃ ᗜ ˂˵)

Soft spoiler warning ⚠️

I had SO much fun reading this volume. In a way, it was exactly what I needed. I needed to see Xue Meng happy. I needed to see him getting along with his bio-dad and to see that his dad really cares—those two are the biggest tsunderes in this universe! Haha! These fucking peacocks! I laughed so hard at so many moments, I felt like I gave myself a spontaneous pneumothorax! .·°՞(≧ᗜ≦)՞°·.
But most of all, I love seeing Xue Meng have a happy relationship with his Shizun and cousin again (yes, including the Diabolically Sacreligious Venerable one Taxian-Jun! My gosh, he’s so fucking hilarious sometimes).
Anyway, at one point, the story made it seem like things had become awkward between Xue Meng and Chu Wanning, and I was heartbroken. But after being pulled here, there, and everywhere, I landed on such an incredible ending. I sat and reread that one paragraph for a hot minute! (˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )づ♡

He pushed open the door. Brilliant sunshine spilled over the new jade board outside Loyalty Hall. Xue Meng had had the words "A loyal heart remains constant" reinscribed, the characters graceful and majestic. The calligraphy was unembellished with gold or silver, but the warm light burnished the sect's motto to a soft and lovely gleam.
Slowly, the bitter partings and bloody wounds of the past were healing. The great battle receded one year, then two... At last, those old friends left behind in this world learned again how to laugh, to bicker, to endure, to adapt, and to silently remember. Just as the young replaced the old, so too did exuberance replace sorrow, light replace darkness, and serenity replace uncertainty.
Behold-no matter how long and dark the night, there would come a time when dawn would break. Joy and merriment would flourish once more in the light of a new day.

It made me so happy knowing that this is the new world: one where there is laughter and endless bickering, and one where there will be no more sorrow for our characters. Also, can I just say that I ship Xue Meng with the "cold" Mei Hanxue (梅寒雪). Especially since MHX gave Xue Meng such a lavish and thoughtful birthday gift! We will never know what it was! Damn! (˶˃𐃷˂˶)

Anyway, here is my take on the split personalities: Personally, I see Taxian-Jun and Mo Ran as two completely different beings. For so long, the narrative harps on the idea that "they are the same person" or that "he's jealous of himself." Yet, here I am just sneering because it doesn't make sense when they have such completely different personalities. I want to respect that they're different because even TXJ feels they are. His experiences are different and so were Mo Gongzi's.
It is nice to see that TXJ has a soft side. He has one because, innately, Mo Weiyu is a kind individual. I like to think of it like a tree with two branches splitting off—one having more flair and getting more sun than the other. They are like oil and water... though there are times they "share the same brain" in the sense that their horniness is unending! Lol. Also, not Moran having to pay the consequences for TXJ's shinanigans! XD
It’s nice that when they put their minds together, they were able to bring such a cute birthday gift for Wanning—even if it was just TXJ trying to one-up Mo Ran. It’s sweet how you can see that CWN doesn't care which branch it is; he still treasures the tree. (ㅅ´ ˘ `) (get it...? Because he himself is a tree himself.... Heh heh... No? okay... I'll shut up.)

"Whether in this life or the previous one, regardless of which person ality or soul—thank you, Mo Ran. Thank you for being here. Thank you for giving me the best birthday of my life. celebrations
I used to have a shizun, but those weren't genuine. You used to have a mom, but your lives were too hard; you couldn't even eat a proper meal. Now, all that's in the past. I'll remember the day you were born too-on that day, I was still in the temple, ignorant of the mortal realm. I had no idea the person with whom I'd spend the rest of my life had come into this world.
But I'll be by your side this year, and every year after. From now on we'll always be together."

And finally, the ending: oh, what joy it brought me! To have Wanning able to celebrate his birthday banquet-style with those who respect him and wish him genuine happiness—alongside the man he loves and the disciple he cares for so deeply. (ˊᵒ̴̶̷̤ ꇴ ᵒ̴̶̷̤ˋ)

"Mo Ran knew he'd spend a lifetime saying to Chu Wanning, 'Happy birthday. May your days be filled with peace and joy.' Someday, snow would dust his hair, and frost would dye his brow. Even then, he would guard the flame of his life.
'I once forsook your heart until the twilight of our years. For the rest of my life, I promise you endless days of peace.'"

PS: that annoying speech impediment of that Rice Cake was SO annoying to read! KMP.
PSS: my favorite was the first extra: Xue Meng's dating experiences! Lmao

Took me forever to finish this because I wasn't ready to let them go... I can't believe it's over! ( ˊo̴̶̷̤ ̫ o̴̶̷̤ˋ)

In this final volume of extra stories, Chu Wanning navigates a married life with a possessive man with split personality who gets jealous of himself; Taxian-jun continues being an all-around menace to anyone and everyone (destroying property, stealing porn, kidnapping sect leaders) while Mo Ran deals with the consequences; the almost-thirty year old virgin Xue Meng gives dating a chance (and ends up going on a date with his own father); Jiang Xi gets more screentime than in the entirety of the main story (against his will, mind you); Ma Yun turns into a bee; a magical item gets so upset over the bad reviews it got that it gains sentience; rice cake spirits turn out to actually exist (bringing many puzzling questions, such as: did Mo Ran manifest rice cake spirits into existence back then or have they always been around? Can you eat the rice cake spirits? Should you eat sentient beings if they are delicious cakes? What do they taste like?); Mo Ran gets cockblocked by a puppy; Mei Hangxue experiences an unexpected sexual awakening (after seemingly experiencing everything the world of pleasure has to offer) and Mei Hänxue really doesn’t want to be involved in any of this nonsense. That, and a lot of crossdressing/gender swapping.

Everything is low stakes relaxing fun (maybe not relaxing for Chu Wanning, who has to deal with Taxian-jun’s drama), much needed reprieve after the insanity that was the main story finale.

I can’t believe my years long journey with Husky and his White Cat Shizun is over 😭 but I see many rereads in the future… (so far I have read the main story twice, the extras once)

This contains three extras. One long story about Xue Meng. A short chat group story. The last long stories about Shizun’s birthday, which was my favorite.

The author gave a nice afterward about her journey.

Overall I really enjoyed this series’ story. It was fun, it was gut wrenching, it was twisted, but even so it ended happily.

I can’t believe I’m saying this after writing absolute love letters to the previous 10 volumes, but… this one and I? We didn’t quite vibe

Somewhere along the way, I found myself… bored. Yes. Bored. I even skipped a few parts—which feels illegal considering how feral I’ve been about this series. Who am I???

Now, let me be VERY clear: Xue Meng still owns my entire heart, my soul, and probably my future. This is not slander, this is just… me side-eyeing the pacing a little.

And the happiness??? Don’t get me wrong, I wanted it. I prayed for it. I lit metaphorical candles for it. But when it arrived, it was like getting hit by a confetti cannon at point-blank range. Beautiful, yes. Slightly overwhelming? Also yes. I needed a moment to emotionally process all that joy.

Despite my mild betrayal at being bored (how dare), this series is STILL one of my all-time favorite danmei. No question. No hesitation. I would recommend it in my sleep.

And to my friend who has been yelling at me to read this for YEARS—fine. You win. You were right. Again.

For now… I’ll say goodbye to Chu Wanning and Mo Ran……

“I once forsook your heart until the twilight of our years. For the rest of my life, I promise you endless days of peace.”

description

I was already sold the moment I saw the cover. It’s so damn adorable, and I love the freebies so much. It just made the whole thing feel more special before I even started reading. Going in, I knew this volume focuses a lot on Xue Meng, and I get why some people don’t like that. It’s not for everyone. For me though, I still found it pretty decent. It’s messy and chaotic, but I didn’t hate my time with it. I just really wish there was more of Shi Mei. I kept waiting for more of him, especially after everything, and it just didn’t quite happen the way I hoped.

Xue Meng made me feel so much secondhand embarrassment it was almost painful. He’s so funnily innocent, and he tries so hard to act mature, but it always turns into something awkward. I couldn’t even be mad at him because you can tell he’s sincere, just not very self aware. There’s something quietly lonely about him too, which made me feel for him more than I expected. The Jiang Xi situation really irks me, mostly because I know what their real relationship is, and it just makes everything feel off in a way I can’t ignore. I also can’t help it, I ship him with the Mei twins so bad. At the same time, he kind of comes off as somewhat asexual to me, similar to Jiang Xi, which makes his whole situation even more complicated in my head. And Mei Hanxue just makes everything worse in the best way, constantly teasing him and pushing his buttons.

The extras are pure chaos. Everything keeps spiraling because of misunderstandings, dumb decisions, and plans that never go the way they’re supposed to. Some parts were genuinely funny, but there were moments where it felt like the embarrassment just kept going and going. It got a little exhausting at times. I still enjoyed certain bits, especially when you catch small glimpses of how the characters actually feel underneath everything. Mo Ran still carries that quiet intensity, and Chu Wanning stays so composed, but you can feel there’s more going on with him. I just wish those moments had more space to breathe. In the end, I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either. It was a mix of fun, frustration, and a lot of secondhand embarrassment that I’m still not over.

276 pages of Xue Meng's blind dating.... there were crumbs of Mo Ran and Chu Wanning in those chapters, but a little disappointing. The birthday story was cute. At least the cover is perfect.

This is the only volume of this series that I started reading on the very day it arrived. Also, I'm very glad it got shipped as quickly as it did because it meant that I didn't have to wait all that long after finishing volume 10 to read this one.

This volume comprises entirely of extras and features three of them. The first of which is legitimately a novel in its own right and was interestingly my favourite in the entire volume, Xue Mengmeng's Blind Date Adventures.

The extras for this entire series largely follow Xue Meng, which is an interesting choice. However, having read all the extras, I'm now of the considered opinion that Xue Meng is an amazing protagonist for a comedy, and given the tone of the extras, makes for a fantastic lead. Also, the author manages to bring in Chu Wanning and Mo Ran into these Xue Meng-led stories in ways that whets the appetite but still leaves you wanting more.

The novel-length extra - Xue Mengmeng's Blind Date Adventures - is a hoot and a half, and if the aim was to have me shipping Xue Meng and Mei Hanxue, I've been here since volume 4, but I anyhow thank the author for all the ammunition. In volume 4, of course, I didn't know there were two of them, and by the end of the main story, I was shipping Xue Meng mainly with Mei Hänxue, but this extra has now got me shipping him with both of them. I now find myself really curious about the nature of their relationship in the past life because those three were very committed to each other. Besides all the Mei Hanxue/Xue Meng/Mei Hänxue content, we also get a lot of fun character interactions of Xue Meng with Jiang Xi, Mo Ran and Chu Wanning, respectively. I really liked this extra, and by the end, I really thought the author would completely commit to Mei Hanxue/Xue Meng/Mei Hänxue or atleast to the pairings of each of the twins with Xue Meng. You really need to read this one to appreciate the absurdity of this story.

The second extra - Who Took Xue Mengmeng's Candies?: Server Edition - is a social media AU with an interface similar to Reddit, except you don't know who is who at the beginning. Fortunately, half the fun of the story was figuring out who was who, and there were some delightful surprises.

The last story - Happy Birthday, Wanning: Fight for Favor - was the one I was most excited to read. Unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. The story is fine, it's just that I'm tired of bittersweet endings when it comes to Ranwan. For once, I was hoping they would catch a break, but it doesn't seem like that's in their destiny. I just wanted a fun story with these two that could capture the magic of volume 6, but that seems like a dream that shall remain unfulfilled atleast in canon.

Overall, I'm really happy with this series, and I love that I planned it all out and got to binge-read the whole thing in one fell swoop! I highly recommend the story; it's really good, and the love story at the heart of it is truly one for the ages.

This volume also contains an afterword from the author, which made me really emotional because it was really heartfelt and earnest. I also realised how huge it was for her to have her novel translated into English, and as she rightfully points out, reading a novel from a whole new country is an opportunity to be introduced to a whole new world of experiences and storytelling.

3.5 Stars. I FINALLY FINISHED THIS SERIES (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ ...

Huge fan of Dumb Husky all around, and definitely recommend to anyone looking for a darker leaning danmei. This last volume was filled with extras that weren't so much my taste, but were fun nonetheless (I cant believe we didn't get so see Shi Mei at all??? Guys??? Hello??? He's still out there???) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also, theres an afterword from Meatbun thats just really really sweet and may or may not have made me tear up a little (;-;)👍

Some fun little extras to end a very angsty book. I enjoyed getting to see them in more domestic settings but there were a couple characters I would've liked a little more of (and a couple characters I didnt need so much of lol).

Overall, loved these books! But I would say that they start off stronger than it ends; I couldn't put any of the volumes down but the last were so focused on progressing the plot and maximizing the angst that some of the character building seemed to get a little lost. Mo Ran is such a dumbass and I forgive him all his many many wrongs 🥰

2ha was a masterpiece until book 10. I had to skip right to the end of 11 because instead of being about Ranwan it was mostly about Xue Mueng. Even so i was not satisfied with the Chu Wanning birthday chapters nor did I like Mo-Ran being left with a double personality instead of erasing Taxian-Jun who never loved Chu Wanning. Wanting to possess and control someone is not love, add to that being cruel and violent. Its obsession. If its a story of redemption why is Mo-Rab forced to keep the personality that caused him to destroy CW? He was already punished enough. It doesn’t make sense. I spent years reading 2ha and i am very disappointed in the ending.

4.5 rounded up bc I’m sentimental.
I just can’t believe it’s over…this series has burrowed itself deep into my heart and made itself a home.
I have cried and laughed unreasonable amounts while reading all of the books.
I loved the softness of this final novel and how it had me laugh and cringe to make up for all the pain from before, seeing as Meatbun decided to make most of this a Xue Meng humiliation ritual.
Mo Ran and Chu Wanning will stay with me for a very long time I think.
I am also immensely grateful for and emotional about the wonderful afterword, to quote one of my favorite parts of it:

“To make a long story short, no matter what country you’re from or what ethnicity you belong to, human nature is the same.[…]As human beings, we all gravitate toward kindness and venerate love; we treasure those dear to us, whether friends or family ot lovers; we hunger for those glorious dreams; we have the same inquisitiveness toward sex, the same fear and distaste for hatred, the same revulsion of atrocity, interest in the unknown, curiosity about human nature…And if we could all understand and connect with each other more often, there’d be a little less malice and conflict in the world, and a little more respect and camaraderie.”

It's over!!! I cannot believe it. This series occupied months in my life and will continue to live vividly in my mind for a long time.

The main story is of course over, but we get to experience how life for the characters continue. Xue Meng, Jiang Xi & the Mei twins get the spotlight and it's just a messy, funny & agonizing life (depending on who you ask).

The discord thread chapter is absolutely sending me!!! I throughly enjoyed it.

Chu Wanning's b-day arc was also bittersweet, weaving in an out between the tragedy of the past and rebith in present/future.

I'm glad to know I leave all of them in a happy and a little less unjust world, even if I know that they can never be fully understood. I cannot wait to revisit this universe after some time and experience all this in a new light.

I DON’T CARE ABOUT HOMELESS PEOPLE.

"Did you know the most wonderful dreams are rarely ever true?"

"The only person he had never been before was himself."

"I hate you, Chu Wanning. I really hate you so much. But you're all I have left."

"When Mo Ran was young, he had wanted to be a good person. But that small, gentle wish of his, much like other little wishes had become nothing more than memories, blown away by the wind and scattered in the snow."

"Another year gone, yet still I wait, for you do not return. For you do not return. Never again"

"A misunderstanding of one year is a misunderstanding. A misunderstanding of ten years is an injustice. A
misunderstanding of a lifetime, from life unto death, is fate"

"Mo Ran had been unconsciously looking for Chu Wanning's shadow in the world; unable to find him, he had instead slowly become him."

"Time marched on. And I, due to remorse, or perhaps something else. I couldn't see you, but always I thought what you would do if you were here; what would make you smile, what would make you mad. I thought about you before doing anything, tried make you proud with everything that I did. I thought, "If you were here, and I did this, would you nod? Would you be willing to praise me a lit- tle, say I did okay?" Day after day I thought about this, until it had permeated my very bones, become second nature. That's why, as time went on, I never even realized. That as the days had passed, I'd grown into the you I held in my heart."

"Why do people need to accompany one another so often in life, when the east wind can carry love?"

"Everyone hoped that this world would be fair, but his fate was unfair from the moment he was born. he will pay for his sins. he will repay what he owes to this world. but what this world owes him. will anyone return it to him? will anyone repay him?"

AGH FUCK.

Eleven volumes. Over a million words. And now its done!????

First off, I’m not even exaggerating when I say Erha is a masterpiece and a fucking nightmare rolled into one. I finished it but honestly, it feels more like this book finished me. My mental health is tashed and my eyesight is screwed from staring at edits for hours. But holy shit, was it worth it? Abso-fucking-lutely.

This story went through two lifetimes, two universes, and a shit-ton of mysteries that made my brain hurt trying to piece it all together. It’s a second-chance story which I usually hate but Meatbun actually explains the how and why of the rebirth, and when those plot twists hit in the second half skfnkfnkgng Fucking hell, I felt like I was zooming out of a microscope, seeing the full picture. Every little detail I overlooked in the first half came back to slap me in the face. It’s brilliant, but it’s also evil. Meatbun, I’m looking at you...why did you have to put me through this much pain?

Now, onto the characters, because RanWan owns my entire soul. Chu Wanning, my precious little meow meow, is everything. He’s so innocent, so fucking good, so awkward and adorable, I just wanna wrap him in a blanket and protect him from the world. He’s relatable as hell, and the way he loves so deeply, even when he’s been hurt, broke me. Like, “Hell is too cold. Mo Ran, I'll accompany you.” are you kidding me? I sobbed. I’m not okay. He’s perfect, and I get why everyone’s in love with him.

Then there’s Mo Ran, my little woof woof. This dude is a walking red flag, but I’m blind as fuck apparently because I’m obsessed. Let’s break him down. Moron 1.0, the gremlin we meet at the start, pissed me off a little BECAUSE LIKE he’s out here simping over someone else when Chu Wanning, the love of his life, is RIGHT THERE. I wanted to shake him. But those moments where he doubts himself, wonders why he was so evil in the past, and sneaks through a window to take care of a sick Wanning after swearing he wouldn’t skfnkfng Clown behavior, but I ate it up. Then we’ve got Moron 2.0, or Mo Zongshi, the ultimate simp. This man had me in tears with his devotion. The way he writes letters to Chu Wanning every day for five years, rearranges food so Wanning’s favorites are close and refuses to drink wine after Wanning’s death because it reminds him of that night? I’m a mess BROTHER WTF. He’s so ashamed of his past self, so desperate to be better, I just....ugh, I love him.

And don’t even get me started on Taxian-Jun, or Moran 0.5. Listen, this man is toxic as fuck, twisted, deranged, and should come with a neon warning sign. But holy shit, feminism left my body the second he showed up with those dimples. I will condone EVERYTHING he did because that is in fact MY MAN. Also his character development is chef’s kiss. When he says, “Chu Wanning, I hate you. You left me all alone,” and then hugs him like he’s clinging to life itself...or when he’s like, “Don’t leave me a second time. The first time, I could die. But if you go away a second time, I can’t even choose to die”? I’m on the floor OKAY “From the beginning till the end, I've only cherished one person! When he left me, I didn't even have a handful of ashes!”Meatbun, why would you do this to me?

The love between RanWan is a rollercoaster and I’m so glad I got to watch these two flawed idiots grow, both as individuals and together. It’s messy and it’s beautiful AND YES TOXIC because this is not for the faint of heart. The trigger warnings are no joke. This doesn’t sugarcoat shit.

That said, I can’t deny how much this book rewired my brain. It’s far from perfect in general terms, some side stories seemed too long BUT I DO NOT CARE because RanWan’s story is etched into my soul. I miss them so fucking much already. Meatbun is a genius and a sadist for the pain she inflicted on her characters (and on me). Do I thank her for bringing RanWan into my life, or do I curse her for making me cry a river? I don’t even know.

I laughed, I screamed, I ugly-cried and I celebrated with this book. It put me through every emotion in the span of 312 chapters, and I’m not sure I’ll ever recover. If you’re on the fence about reading it, just do it. Yeah, it’s heavy and it’ll break you, but it’s worth every second of agony. I’ve heard 2HA is supposedly the “easiest” of Meatbun’s works to read, and while I already read YUWU I think erha has a higher angst level BUT I’m scared to touch BAB since THIS WOMAN IS NOT JOKING WITH THE SUFFERING. But for now, I’m just gonna sit here with this RanWan-sized hole in my heart and reread my favorite scenes until I feel whole again. “Two lifetimes, they belong to you. No regrets.”

NO FUCKING REGRETS.

“They’d been each other’s salvation for two lifetimes and survived all their mortal trials. All these years later, fate still bound them together as tightly as ever, inseparably entwined.”

My final writing in this book is “What an ending!!! They finally have peace.” If two people deserve to finally have peace it’s Chu Wanning and Mo Ran and I’m glad that the series ending with a quiet peaceful moment.

This series is about two characters that’s love defeated all that life had to throw at them. Neither Chu Wanning(my favorite) or Mo Ran had it easy so they deserve this.

I loved the final story it was definitely the highlight of the book for me. Taxian-jun’s appearances were comedic gold. He was hands down the highlight of Xue Meng’a story. I also love that both Chu Wanning and Mo Ran accept Taxian-jun and Mo Ran are one and the same yet Taxian-jun won’t.

I wish I could say this final volume was perfect but it wasn’t. I found that the first story focusing on Xue Meng went on way too long. I went from finding it funny and entertaining to being annoyed by Xue Meng and his childish antics. I didn’t even bother reading the second story about the candy because by then I just didn’t want to read about Xue Meng anymore. I do like his dynamic with Jiang Xu and the Mei twins.

This however is a great ending for one of the most tragic love stories I have ever read. I’m sad that I am now done reading Meatbun stories unless she has something new because I gave up on Casefile but this and Remnants of filth are two of the most beautifully written series I’ve ever read. Her writing style continues to wow me.

This series is long but it’s so worth it.
