Marrow: Red in Tooth and Claw

Rate this book
In the settling dust of the Eighteenth Flood, the Graveyard lives to see a new Era, one teetering on the brink of war. The Old Bones, once tumultuous, now simmer with a hidden strife, threatening both the human nations below and the divine firmament above. Edel and Rubedo embark on a quest to shoulder the burden of the remaining Gestalts, vying for the title of the Gestalt-To-End-All-Gestalts. Meanwhile, the Lājackal and its rider gather dissidents against the Stag as a harrowing conflict over the new marrow deposit of Antlerfall mounts. Those few who remain grasp humanity’s true purpose must bear their teeth against the Old Bones that remain, else they risk being blown about among the desert dust, failing to discover a far greater evil sealed within the iron hills.

As the second book in a four-part fantasy series, Red in Tooth and Claw is the direct sequel to Marrow. Though the second installment returns to the stories of existing characters, including Edel, Rubedo, Ailaan, and Clara, it also introduces the struggles of newcomer Balthanne, the Gestalt of the Stallion. After the destruction of the Eighteenth Flood, the Graveyard begins to settle into the next era of history—at least, until a campaign in the west threatens to rock the nations to their foundations. In the advent of the Antler of Eden and the Old Bones' rising belligerence, it is every man for himself in the hunt for the Gestalt of the Stag's head and the possession of one of the Graveyard's most precious the key to the Old Bones' overdue extinction. This gripping follow-up to Marrow promises even more towering conflicts, hidden conspiracies, and larger-than-life set pieces than the original.
