This volume was Hirayasumi at its best, if we’re being honest, as it shows what you can do with a slice-of-life when it’s actually about, well, life and the details of living it.
The biggest throughline with the volume is Nat’s attempt to realize her ideal summer break and, more importantly, how that keeps bringing her into contact with Orui, a friend of a friend who she’s nothing like.
Despite that, the stirrings of something that looks a lot like romance begin to swirl between them and it’s fun watching two very, very disparate people apparently seeing one another in that sense.
But do they see one another that way? The whole thing is complicated because Orui is naturally awkward, but Nat is certainly no better due to her inexperience. She’s struggling with being seen as childish, so that’s weighing on her as well.
A lot of the times where she’s been getting twinges from Orui, well, she’s been saved from very stressful situations by his actions (including one of the funniest roaches in manga history), so that’s another potential factor.
Amidst all this, Nat gets her manga possibly back on track to boot, but only after a collaboration offer that ends up tying into her current problems.
Over with the love triangle, Yomogi and Ishikawa actually head out on a date that quickly veers off the rails and becomes an exercise in embracing chaos and not planning things down to the letter.
It looks like a done deal that Hiro won’t be part of Yomogi’s life, until that confession he made when she was blackout drunk suddenly bubbles back up to her consciousness.
That remains unresolved, but the real swerve comes when Ishikawa and Hiro end up becoming friends without realizing who one another are. Ishikawa even makes a surprising proposal and turns out to have a whole other side to him that we haven’t seen yet.
Interspersed, we get some fun examples of Hiro just being Hiro and finding the joy in a variety of mundane things. The chapter with the walnut inari is very simple, but really wonderful with how sweet it is.
And I like that, for a series that is absolutely based on the transition to adulthood and how it moves at different speeds for different people, it also realizes that some of those childish moments still have their place.
This smoothes out a lot of the lumps from some of the more recent volumes and really feels like a return to form. There isn’t a bad moment in this one and it even has a pretty fun cameo out of nowhere.
4.5 stars - there might not be an exact blockbuster moment here, but it executes its intent in myriad delightful ways and I was super happy that it felt as good as earlier volumes.

si je peux me permettre le côté triangle amoureux qui se profile ne me plaît pas du tout! (btw je suis sûre que l’opinion public quant à quel type choisir ne sera pas d’accord avec moi) mais j’aime toujours autant les perso !

He dicho muchas veces que Hirayasumi es una cabaña en invierno con la chimenea encendida. Un beso en la frente de tu madre a los 5 años. O a los 25. En este octavo volumen, además, la brisa del verano inunda las vidas de sus protagonistas, dotándoles todavía de mayor calidez a sus historias.
Sigo enamorado de todos ellos. Su forma de transitar por la vida hace más ligera mi paso por ella. Además, una de sus mayores virtudes es el cariño que el autor pone en el crecimiento de sus protagonistas. Los va cociendo a fuego muuuuuuuy lento y, el hecho de no ser adolescentes como el 90% de los mangas, los acerca mucho más a los que a veces nos cuesta empatizar con protagonistas de 17 años.
Mientras Keigo Shinzo siga dándonos estos ratitos de paz cada vez que nos zambullimos en las vidas de Hiroto y Natsumi, yo seguiré poniéndole 5 estrellas sin pensarlo. No pienso ser objetivo.
Por cierto, amor incondicional a Yomogi. Pasa de estos dos, cógete un billete de ida y vete a vivir al Caribe.

Que j’ai adoré ce tome ! C’est la vie, juste la vie et pourtant, c’est lumineux, extrêmement simple mais juste, vraiment l’auteur croque cela avec beaucoup de finesse.
Suivre ce groupe de jeunes adultes est magique. On se voit parfaitement comme si on était à leur place à vivre ces moments de vie, que ce soit avec Natsumi pour la version étudiante ou Hiroto pour la version jeune adulte qui continue de se chercher, et c’est très frais.
Dans ce tome, je me suis amusée des sentiments qui naissent inopinément chez Natsumi tandis qu’elle part passer un weekend avec ses amis de la fac et rencontre l’ami de l’un d’eux, un garçon un peu décalé, étrange, mais qui finalement lui ressemble. Les premiers temps, les premiers pas de cette potentielle romance, avec des étapes maladroites et originales (ah l’épisode du cafard !) sont savoureux. Mais il n’y a pas qu’elle ! Notre jeune agente immobilière aussi est sous les feux des projecteurs amoureux et elle, c’est un triangle amoureux singulier qu’elle vit, parce que 1/ elle se rappelle de la déclaration d’Hiroto au moment où elle reçoit celle de Ryo xD et 2/ Ryo et Hiroto, sans le savoir, se rencontrent et nouent le début d’une amitié !!!
Je suis vraiment fan de ces petites coïncidences que l’auteur est si doué pour distiller au détour des pages et qui mine de rien font avancer les personnages. Natsumi, par exemple, qui est persuadée qu’on va la titiller sur ses potentiels sentiments naissants, se retrouve finalement avec une proposition de co-écriture de manga ! Chouette, ça lui redonne une bouffée d’air frais. Quant à Hiroto, rencontrer Ryo, un fan de lui en tant qu’acteur, l’aide à tourner définitivement la page. Quant à Yomogi, notre agente, tomber par hasard sur le meilleur ami d’Hiroto l’aide aussi à réaliser qu’elle doit se bouger. Le monde est vraiment petit et les rencontres de la vie sont vraiment propices à réfléchir, faire le point et avancer, qu’importe la direction, tant qu’on ne reste pas immobile. J’aime beaucoup.
Ce fut donc un tome lumineux à lire, plein d’entrain, de moments de vie qu’on aurait pu connaître, de personnages qui se bougent et avancent à leur rythme, avec leurs incertitudes et leurs doutes, mais qui avancent quand même, ce qui les rend si sympathiques et touchants. Mention spéciale aux plus âgés pour moi ici dont j’aime le portrait de jeunes encore hésitants malgré leur entrée dans la vie active ❤

Hirayasumi continues to engage, even if this volume focuses on a love angle that feels like a contrivance.
There are some coincidences at work here as Hiroto meets a romantic rival he doesn't know exists. Ishikawa, an uptight novelist, is polar opposite to our laid-back protagonist. He also turns out to be a big fan of Hiroto's acting, which adds some tension to this volume when he asks the slacker to audition for an adaptation of one of his books.
Hiroto's art-school cousin Nat finds herself eyeing a potential romantic partner as well, although the prospect fills her more with anxiety and annoyance than butterflies. Spiky and dramatic, she's full of feelings she barely understands, which she diagnoses here as immaturity. Even if she’s right, it's compelling to watch her stumble and grow.
Perhaps my favorite character is Hiroto's skeevy childhood friend, Hideki, who shows up screwing up a delivery order and hangs out to move the plot forward. He's so sweaty and selfish that it's always fun to see what he'll get up to.

Un nuevo volumen y sigue la maravilla costumbrista japonesa hacia adelante. Uno puede llegar a creerse que los personajes viven, y son, tal y como se ve en esta serie. Y esto es así porque la autora deja que cada pequeña historia se tome el tiempo que necesita para respirar y aposentarse en el alma de quien la lee. No creo posible leer estas historias y no sentirse inmediatamente mejor, feliz incluso.
Otra de las características que me encantan es que el paso del tiempo parece transcurrir al mismo ritmo que la lectura. Pasan los meses y las estaciones con naturalidad. En este volumen, por ejemplo, asistimos a unas cuantas aventuras veraniegas y, hacia el final, al inicio del nuevo curso en la universidad. Sin pasar la oportunidad de darnos una deliciosa receta japonesa más.
Sigue el disfrute.

That ending was one big LOL. I hope Koboyashi will be okay, especially since she just got her motivation back.
We get so many sweet moments and deep convos in this volume. The two love interests forming a budding friendship had me squealing. The flashbacks to Granny are my favorite and she truly played such a pivotal role in Hiroto's life. Seeing him keep her traditions alive is adorable.

The past few volumes have really hit home how fun summer is (especially when you're in college). Late night hangs with friends, sitting out at night to chat or late night movies are the best. The warm weather makes you want to linger as well. Really makes me look forward to the summer.

La gràcia d'aquesta sèrie és que captura a la perfecció la quotidianitat i el pas del temps d'uns personatges normals i corrents, que podríem ser tu o jo, amb problemes gens èpics que depenen en gran part del moment vital que travessen. La Natsumi se sent massa infantil, sense haver experimentat l'amor en primera persona i amb un enorme bloqueig creatiu incapaç de dibuixar manga. El Hiroto segueix dubtant sobre si tornar a actuar sense saber que està immers en un triangle amorós amb l'escriptor i la noia de la immobiliària, però com que és tan bon Jan es fa amic del noi i queden que jugaran a ping pong plegats. Res extraordinari, però una lectura amena centrada en cadascun de l'elenc de personatges ♥️

This volume revitalized my interest in this manga. For the past two or three volumes I was a little uninterested in the path the story was taking.
This volume's chapters felt more like vignettes, and I think that helped move the story along and provide a depth that has been missing. Each chapter felt connected without having to be exactly chronological.
It also felt like there was more action from the characters. Everyone felt stuck in some kind of rut for so long. This volume wrapped up some of those feelings while introducing some knew feelings as well.
Hiro had some more time to be Hiro which is why I initially got into this series.

j'apprécie vraiment ce manga, c'est du slice of life au sens propre du terme. c'est doux, c'est réconfortant, c'est vrai. cependant, j'ai du mal à mettre plus de 4 étoiles à chaque tome parce que j'aimerais que l'histoire prenne encore plus son temps, qu'elle soit un peu plus contemplative. il n'empêche que ça reste vraiment très bien et que je lirais la suite avec plaisir (et je pense que l'anime prévu à un gros potentiel!)

Oh no, Nat!
I loved the theme of this installment, as Nat is struggling with thinking she needs to be grown up, but also just being the kid she is. This budding relationship with Orui is really making things interesting too.
Thank goodness I already have volume 9 because I couldn't sit with that ending for too long!

I think this resonates with me so much, not because it’s cozy, but because the MC doesn’t totally have his life together, and there’s something comforting about knowing you’re not alone trying to figure out this big ‘ol journey calls life

I enjoyed the progression that all of our characters made in this volume and I love that throughout the entire manga series we continue to follow normal people trying to overcome normal problems while also trying find our who they are no matter where they are in life or what age they are.

April 23, 2026One of the best volumes in this series because of how balanced it is. New character introduction and interactions, romance plot progression, but still time for a breather making walnut inari. Great pacing to the series can't wait to pick up the next volume.
