Mars has always fascinated humanity and the findings of the past decade have revolutionized ideas about our nearest neighbor--revealing its watery past and geological similarity to Earth.

This gorgeously illustrated volume is filled with the latest and most magnificent images to be sent back from Curiosity, will walk you in the footsteps of the NASA probes and rovers that have been surveying the planet from 1964 until the present day. Experience its other-worldly beauty as you hover over sinister dust devils, immense icecaps and textured rock formations.

Mars charts an incredible course across this unfamiliar planet, depicting all sides, seasons, channels and chasms, from the North Pole to the Southern Highlands. Witness the soaring heights of Olympus Mons--the tallest volcano in the Solar System--watch a giant dust storm tear through the canyons of the Valles Marineris, and explore the broad valleys of Chryse Planitia, scarred from catastrophic floods.

Detailed and accessible essays explain how Mars was formed, shedding light on its internal and external structure, weather systems and unique geographical features, as well as on the compelling evidence of water and microscopic life. Each image is accompanied by a caption that explains in unparalleled detail the abstract patterns and peculiar geology that form this majestic planet.

Featuring over 200 spectacular photographs and informative color diagrams, an atlas of the surface and details of the most recent scientific discoveries Mars is the perfect introduction to the Red Planet.

This book details the "Red Planet" from the human obsession with it to our current knowledge of that world. One chapter, in particular, provides a detailed description of the various probes, orbiters and landers that helped to advance what we know. Another includes a detailed 'Map' showing the major features of Mars. This book is well worth a read, with extensive information and many stunning photographs and images.

It's the bringer of War according to Holst. But it is a dead, cold world, with no horde of Martians dead set on waging war on Earth.
Great pictures in amazing detail.

My celestial namesake.

Brilliant.

A very nice coffee table book about the history of exploration of the Red planet incorporating the latest discoveries and some breath taking photos. The accompanying text is informative and easy to follow. This book is a must have for the Mars enthusiast. The only problem is that exploration of Mars is moving so fast that it's likely this book will become out of date in a few years.

Top quality big glossy hardback all about our planetary neighbour. There are chapters on the earliest observations, the recent rash of orbiters and rovers, plus a cursory, tantalising mention of terraforming (over to you Elon). The bulk of the book is a fairly detailed description of the planet's topography and possible geology. The pics are stunning and I was tempted to skip the science and just gawk.
Quibbles: the black background on most pages smudges really easily to leave fingerprints. My copy could be used by the FBI/MI5 to ID me. Maybe I'm a neat freak but I had to open each new page carefully with my bookmark to avoid these smudges. More of a problem was the tiny script that accompanied the photos. I could just about read it but it wasn't easy. A white background with black lettering would have remedied both issues. Still, highly recommended to all Marsophiles (is this a word? It is now).

3/5 good but personally not for me. For a £1 purchase I'm not disappointed but for the sake of storage space I won't be keeping it.

200+ page coffee table book about Mars, mainly the scientific stuff like the geology, water, and atmosphere as well as a detailed section about the various probes and exploration rovers. The pictures, maps and graphs are amazing, very high quality imo. The text is quite detailed and as someone who is not very into scientific stuff I'm not sure how much I will really remember.

Kerenlah pokoknya. Aduh, serasa melihat pameran lukisan, indah dan menawan sekali.

This book surpassed the wildest expectations i had when i ordered it. The book is of very high quality. It is full of amazing photos of Mars, several of which will move your soul. The accompanying text explains various aspects of the planet, like its climate, seasons, composition, different areas of Mars, and our missions to it. I found out that the planet is a lot more versatile than i'd expected.

Looking through the pages of this book will take one on an unexpected journey to our neighboring planet, exploring its many exciting areas, and discovering its different aspects.

Glorious pictures and top-notch science writing make this one of the most enjoyable of the recent books on Mars. The middle portion of the book is arranged as an atlas of Mars, highlighting the geology and terrain of different sites on the red planet. That is a section to savor slowly.
