The Bound Duet #2

Haunted Hearts

Rate this book
The haunting has only just begun.

Cade Halloway is done running. The Covenant still stands—fractured, desperate, and willing to burn the world to reclaim their power. They still want his sister, Callisto, but Callisto is no longer the girl they marked for death. She trains in secret, learning to wield the power she was born with. And the rules begin to change. With the help of an old friend, a monster forced into human skin, and you—the unseen presence bound to Cade—they prepare for the war coming to their door.

As Cade moves to finally dismantle the Covenant, his connection to you deepens into something he no longer questions. You are no longer a ghost, you are a part of him now. And he intends to find you. But while alliances take shape, something else watches from the shadows. Waiting for every piece to fall into place.

This time, survival won’t be enough.

THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING. The chemistry, the romance, the characters, and the way this story pulled me in had me captivated! I loved that I was able to immerse myself in this world and see how all things came together while the stakes were raised.

Calli and Alabaster were definitely the highlights for me! Their exchanges were INCREDIBLE, and their chemistry was fierce.

Amongst the things I loved most about this book was its ability to break the fourth wall. This book really made me feel like I was a part of this world. The interactions that the reader has with Cade were AMAZING!

I was so invested int his story from the beginning to the end! The plot was great and I really enjoyed seeing everything unfold at the end.

DNF at around 10 %.

I thought I could do it, but not even Alabaster could save this for me - all because of the second person POV 😪 no faults of the narrators though!

The fourth wall breaking still delivered in the best ways. The relationship between Cade and the reader felt a bit more elevated and progressed well to a degree. Calli acknowledging that he loves “you” was a nice touch. Although, the I love you came far too soon compared to the pacing of the emotional development. I found it more believable in comparison to Calli and Alabaster’s relationship.

Somehow I missed the why choose direction in the trigger warnings/"the menu". Calli was so infatuated with Alabaster in book one. So then why suddenly is she so confused about someone else? His jealousy is still there but nowhere near the extreme I enjoyed previously. I also feel like she did not have much growth. “You’re stubborn. Childish. Damn near insufferable when you don’t get your way” (6%). In my opinion, that does not change much throughout. The spice still outweighs the plot, though substantially less than in book one. Will say that the action is much heavier about 60% in which I highly appreciated.

The ending added much more confusion than resolutions. The lore behind the celestials and titans besides how ridiculously powerful they are would have been highly entertaining to explore. I enjoyed parts of this, but once again finished wanting more explanations. The epilogue gave me an inkling that these characters won't be gone for long.

HOLY PLOT PROGRESSION!! This book may be short, but it packs massive plot progression, character development, twists, and nonstop chaos. I am still trying to wrap my head around how Hanna Harp squeezed so much into such a short read WITHOUT ever making it feel rushed 🤯 I hands down enjoyed this book more than the first, and I am dying to see what comes next!!

Our relationship with Cade is still spicy and ever-growing, and I could not get enough of Callie and Alabaster! The banter, the spice, the insane amount of character development for these two was pure perfection. Without spoiling anything, can I just add that Chapter 41 had me in an absolute chokehold.

🎧I 100% did an immersion read thanks to Simon Maverick Books #maverickmaven, and the cast went from three narrators to four! Cue the addition to the cast I didn’t know I needed until I heard his voice, Corvin King!! Of course, we still have Teddy Hamilton, M.K. Blackwood, and Christian Leatherman. These narrators deliver top-tier performances, and the fourth-wall-breaking makes the listening experience even more immersive.

Favorite Quote:

“Fuck me, kill me, change me. I don’t care. Worshipping you is all I need.”

Thank you so much to Simon Maverick Books for providing me with an e-ARC and ALC of this book. All opinions are voluntary and entirely my own.

The first book was better, the concept is great, breaking the 4th wall and you are the love interest sounds amazing but the actual story fell flat for me. The only saving grace was I listened to this as an audiobook and Teddy Hamilton can make anything sound great.

The ending to a steamy hot demon romance duet.

I loved book one which was only hotter thanks to the duet narration, so maybe its because I read this one on my ebook but it just didn't hit the right mark for me.

I loved the tension of book 1 but book 2 was mainly smut scene after smut scene (times two since we're following two couples) and barely any plot. Now, don't get me wrong, the smut scenes itself were great but I need a little bit more for a final book.

I was so intrigued when the lore was opened up about gods and titans and would've loved to learn more about this aspect. I also think the Ghost perspective started to wear off for me as I couldn't immerse myself into the persona.

Overall, I liked all characters, but especially our Demon Daddy Alabaster, but I didn't get understand the sexual tension with another character when ultimately nothing comes out of it.

I was so excited to recieve this ARC of Haunted Hearts by Hanna Harp, and I’ so grateful for the opportunity!
This book has such a unique feature. The idea of us, the reader, being the love interest for one of the mmc’s is one of the absolute coolest concepts that I've come across. It’s new, fresh and unlike anything else out there. I loved how Cade speaks directly to the reader, though I found myself wishing we got a bit more insight into our own role in the story (even if the epilogue left me suspecting there's a specific reason we didn't!).

Because this book features two couples, I went in expecting double the storyline and double the emotionals. There was moments of connection between the characters but I felt a disconnect with the emotional depth. I was reading about their intense feelings, but I wasn't always feeling them on a deeper level, and I wanted to see a bit more character growth along with the high tension. However the plot does move fast and keeps your mind entertained and working the whole time you definitely won't be bored!
The characters themselves are such a huge positive point for me. I love Kai, the way he loves, protects, and understandsl, and his personality kept me completely hooked. Then we got a new character, my goodness, what a fantastic addition! The banter and dynamic here had me catching myself giggling out loud so many times. I only wish we got to dive deeper into his mindset.
That epilogue, though... WHAT?! I finished with many questions and feeling like I missed a piece of a puzzle, which threw me off a bit since this is supposed to be the end of The Bound Duet.
Overall, if you read book one, you should definitely check this out! It’s a fast, quick read that you’ll fly right through. Plus, I am so excited to listen to the audiobook once it comes out the narrators are some of my absolute favorites!

⭐⭐⭐.5

"I've seen many things in the centuries I've been alive- none of it compares to how she makes me feel when I'm with her."

I once again loved the fourth wall break of putting the reader into the book as a love interest. It's such a great concept that really stands out! PLUS our little ghost character had a bigger role in this one!
In this conclusion to the duet, I loved being able to watch the world expand more after the cliffhangers ending the first book. I enjoyed that it picked up right where the last one ended as well. The first half focused a lot on the days following the last story's conflict and getting adjusted to home life... Of course with lots of smut.
The first half was okay for me, regarding the plot-line. It appeared a lot more smut leaning than plot, which just made it a bit harder to follow where things were going. The smut was great, but a bit more balance between the two would have made it perfect.
That being said, the second half is when I got more into it and really started to enjoy it more.
The lore and background that got introduced was perfect, plus the character development was very fitting and oh my god SO FUNNY! I couldn't stop laughing out loud at both Jack and Alok.
There were sections where I felt a bit lost and confused, or times that needed more depth. I also found myself with questions at the end when things didn't feel like a "duet resolution".

Overall though, I enjoyed the book! The passion between the characters and the obsessive love they had for each other really kept up during the entire ride. And of course, I'm so glad we got to have a great completion to Calli and Kai!

EXCUSE ME?!

What...first of all, the way I screamed when I got the invite to this ARC? We won't talk about it. Second off what do you MEAN that much happened in 300 freaking pages?!

The fourth wall was just bulldozed over and I'm over here trying to be a good little ghost but NO. Chaos. Cade? *rubs temple* I can't be over here collecting book boyfriends the way that I am. Do you hear me? They aren't collectables. Though with the amount of books I have..ANYWAY.

This book was sexy, it was heartfelt, it was feral, emotional, had me GASPING for air. It was an emotional roller coaster and I didn't want to get off. And that ending?! That freaking epilogue?

I don't want to give spoilers but I can't WAIT to get to listen to this audiobook. Knowing who the narrators are going to be for this? I'm so excited.

Hanna- My darling. I'm so freaking proud of you for this. I'm so thankful that your team gifted me this ARC because book one has been replaying in my mind for forever. Every time I see a ghost on a cup or in the store or whatever..I think of Haunting the Hunter. Thank you, thank you, thank you! The audio for this is going to be another show stopper.

Thank you @SimonMaverickAudio #MaverickMavens for the free audiobook. I was so happy to get the ALC of this because I loved book #1 in The Bound Duet, Haunting the Hunter and this book did not disappoint.

This book picks up right where the first book left off and I’m not going to go too much into this book in case you haven’t read the first book, but this is such a solid ending for this duet. We, the reader, are even more involved in the story and not just with our love interest Cade, but with the other characters too – sheer perfection! There are a few characters that I didn’t even know that I needed to hear from, but it was cool (epilogue).

Speaking of epilogue, when I got to the end, I was like… is this really the end? If I have my way, NO!!!!! But… I’m open to another Duet, following others in the series 😉 We do get a lot questions answered, and this book is super-fast paced, which I loved. When the spice hits, which is rather quick, it’s SPICY🌶️! Calli and Alabaster are totally meant for each other BUT there’s a little something that we find out that makes their relationship even more – or should I say someone 😉 You literally can’t go wrong with this Duet… and I won’t be happy until I find out if there is more to come 😉

If you’re looking for the following, this book is for you:

👻MMF?
👻He falls first & harder
👻Touch her & d!e vibes

👻Secret society

I utterly devoured the book as soon as I received it. One morning and it was done. That's how much I was waiting for it.

I was not disappointed. The story picks up exactly where it left off from the first book (so no time skip). We learn much more about who Kai/Alabaster is and the entities that the covenant calls gods. While I wished the story would dive more into those, and the titans. We finish the book with even more questions than answers, to be honest.

I still ate it up. Callisto's growth, her relationship with Alabaster, the danger and powers, and most of all, Cade. That character is a damn guilty pleasure.

The way the author broke the fourth wall, making it so Cade is in love with the reader, talks to the reader, craves its presence, and chases it… It's satisfying in a way I can't explain. The ending had me giggling like a schoolgirl, almost wishing there was either a third book or that it was real.

Let a woman dream!

Also, I read the book, hearing Teddy Hamilton's voice in my mind. It truly did not help with my focus.

Thank you Net-Galley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book.

A very good and fun read. I devoured this! There were definitely some issues with pacing - I almost feel like this should've been longer. While the plot is very predictable, I find myself confused and the worldbuilding muddled around some of the more surprising elements. I enjoyed the characters more, but felt there were too many perspectives shifts and new people being introduced that everyone ended up falling flat. Kai and Calli's relationship felt a lot more like insta-love and less realistic in terms of fleshing out anything going on between the two of them, other than that they love each other sooooo much. I think this was a fun read, but had many areas for improvement. I will eagerly be waiting for the next installment though!! Very cool concept and having a 4th-wall-break reader insert is definitely unique!

I went into this book so excited! I loved the first one. I LOVED the fourth-wall breaking with the MMC and the reader. I feel like this book took that relationship to another level. We weren't there just for the spicy scenes, our little ghost served a purpose.

This book takes up right where the first left off. I was excited to see how everything was going to wrap up. While I thoroughly enjoyed the story, I felt like I missed something. For a bit during the last quarter of the book, I was a little confused on what was going on, and while I feel the last chapter wrapped things up a little, the epilogue gave me even more questions. This doesn't feel like an ending to a duet. It is entirely possible I may have just missed something, but I left this book feeling like I need more of this story. But like I already stated, I still really liked this book and it kept me hooked throughout, plus the twist left me speechless! I still recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the first book.

Book two understood the assignment. 🔥
Everything book one left me craving? DELIVERED. Especially after that cliffhanger!
Cade is everything I wanted in book two. More communication, more trust, more jokes, and SO much more personality. Alabaster/Kai? Yep. Still love him. Cali is just as lovable, and the new characters are fantastic additions.
The witches, gods, demons, romance, chaos, and action continue, and somehow the paranormal world gets even more addictive.
And can we talk about the reader being part of the story?! The fourth-wall breaking is SO much fun and made this feel like an experience rather than just a book.
Quick, action-packed, addictive, and never boring.
Book one was good. Book two leveled up. 🖤🔥
If you love paranormal romance and want something that pulls YOU directly into the story, READ THIS SERIES.

Oh this is everything I dreamed it would be. It wrapped up the first book so perfectly. I will say the only thing I don’t like about this duet is how heavy the author tries to market this as a MC x Reader story but let’s be honest it mainly follows Cali and Kai. Like don’t get me wrong the moments we do get with everyone are nice and I like how they interact with the reader but sometimes I wish it was given to us more. Or I wish it wasn’t so marketed towards Cade X Reader and was actually marketed for what it is. Don’t get me wrong the story and the universe was beautiful but the x Reader part really lacked for me. Also the ending when they gave us more world building and lore and then just left us high and dry. I hope the author does try to write more of these character and the universe she created. I really wanna get my happy ending with Cade.

First thank you Simon Maverick and Hanna for allowing me to read this ARC.
As the second book in the series I feel I got all the things that the first book left me wanting. As first books often do with cliffhangers.

Cade is everything I wanted him to be in book two. He communicates with us, jokes, trusts. It makes it truly a fun experience to read.
Alabaster/Kai what can I say but I love him. And Cali is lovable as always.
New characters are introduced and they are all fantastic additions.

The story continues its wild ride in the paranormal universe of witches, gods and demons. I loved book one but I feel book two is even better.

I highly recommend for anyone who loves a good paranormal romance. Especially since the reader is part of the story.

Do I think this book necessarily deserves such a high rating? Not necessarily. I've made it so high solely because of how much I as an individual enjoyed it. It has almost all of the same issues the first book had, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

I pride myself and am known amongst my friends as someone who always figures out plot twists. While I still figured out quite a few, many things in the end still caught me off guard, and I love any book that can do that. If even I am shocked by a twist, you know the twist was either well worked/hidden into the story, or the twist made no sense, and I felt the twist made perfect sense.

If you're a fan of happy endings, I wouldn't read the epilogue. I felt wholly satisfied with the entire duet up until then.

We’re back with Cade trying to dismantle and obliterate the covenant. The same one that has marked his sister for death and had him do unspeakable atrocities in their name.
Callisto now has Jen’s help to her master her self destructive magic; a fellow witch of the covenant who also just wants out.
Kai is doing everything in his power to keep Calli safe; he’s head over heels in love with her. But “Jack” is being a nuisance.

I went into this book with super high hopes and expectations that it was going to be amazing and i was going to love it as much if not more than the first book. But I found it so disjointed and confusing? Maybe because I didn’t go from Book one directly into book two? And waited for over a year for the release.
I guess I was just expecting more.

DNF’d at 50%. Idk how I thought the first book was good. The writing of this was so cringe and choppy!

The pieces I was intrigued about in book 1 completely fell apart. Cade and the “little ghost” aka the reader, managed to get worse, making Cade even more insufferable to read.

Kai I enjoyed in book 1, became a boring sack of potatoes in this one.

Sorry Hanna Harp, this needed a few pass throughs from an editor and you take their feedback.

Thanks to NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest (brutally honest) review.

Haunted Hearts is such a unique story. The breaking of the fourth wall was such a fun way to experience the book, and I loved how the story continued in a way that kept pulling me in. It was a quick read, but it still felt full of action and never like anything was missing. I really hope to see more books that include the reader as an active character because this was such a fun way to experience a story.

This book picked up right where Haunting the Hunter left off, there was certainly more action, plenty of spice, and we, as the reader, get more involved which was actually pretty cool. I was already totally there for Alabaster, but I fell for him even harder in this one (it's always the naughty ones).

The epilogue, tho, was pretty dang good too! I am sooo hoping for another duet (please and thank you)

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, MAN!! I LOVE CADE SO MUCH!! He is number one Book Boyfriend and I am so happy nothing happened to him. BUT GODDAMN IT THE EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER!!!

Hanna really does an excellent job of making you, the reader, feel like an actual character in the book. This was so well made and I absolutely love it!

THE LAST FEW CHAPTERS HAD ME CRYING AND HOW DARE YOU DO THE ENDING!!! How DARE you!!

I found that it had a very slow beginning but once the action picked up and the banter kicked in, I enjoyed it alot! Really interesting concept and I liked how it was utilized in this book much more than in the first one. Ive been waiting for it since I read book 1 in November last year but im glad I picked up the second book!

The second book got some more plot development but I do wish there was a third book because it kind of leaves us hanging. But for what it was , i wasnt head over heels for this duology but i didnt hate it either. I had a good time reading it. But in my opinion it would have been much better if it was focused only on calli and alabastor…
