This felt like one of the stronger issues so far, but it still didn’t fully land for me. I’m just not connecting with how Terry is being written. I think there’s plenty of room for growth and personal exploration with his character, but the direction they’re taking him in right now isn’t really working for me.
Did that feel super choppy to anyone else? It didn’t feel like the story had much impact on itself, as it continued to jump from plot point to plot point. This happened, and then this happened, and now we are here. It just doesn’t make for a good experience while storytelling. I’m enjoying aspects of this, but the moment I start to get comfortable with one part of the story, we’ve immediately jumped into the next. The start of the issue takes place directly in the fallout of shutdown’s attack at the end of the last issue. Cities around the world have been impacted and have been completely shut down, causing global chaos. And in the heart of it all, Dakota city, Terry alongside static and Gear have been taken down. At this point all of them have gotten back up ans Beacon and Raquel have met back up with them, and Terry is even receiving communications on old signals from Bruce, but static is still down. Gear supposes that he needs some for of shock to wake back up, but they don’t have enough power for that at all. But what they do have is an electrical storm brewing over head, and without asking for much advice…Terry proceeds to pick static up and fly him into the storm, hoping that his powers will automatically draw in the energy to wake him up. And technically it does work, it just takes Terry getting drained of all power in his suit, and getting hit but lighting multiple times. Luckily Static was able to help Terry land safely, and create the aura farm moment of the issue, and we even found it from Raquel that the blood syndicate is running around Dakota doing what they can to help, which is great. But at the moment Virgil is pissed at Terry, who he told to stay home and who he currently blames for the breach in Gotham that started all of this, and Terry points the finger right back for putting a mutagen inside their power. But now is not time for finger pointing, all of their systems are down and people need help. For starters, Terry needs help getting back to Gotham with all of his tech down, so Virgil hooks him up with a non electric bike, a map, and an old JLU communicator.
We see over the next days how Terry gets home, stopping some looters along the way, and how Virgil has to do the same thing at an aid distribution center. But something’s wrong with static, he isn’t the same since shutdown affected his powers. Days ago he was de-powering a fleet of alien warships, now he can barely stop the bullets from a few basic thieves. He ended up taking one shot in the shoulder before he took them down, and the thought of someone else getting hurt is eating away at him. Gear promises him that they will figure it out together so he gets full access back to his powers. We actually check in on the culprit behind all of this, shutdown, as he finally heads home, much to the surprise of his parents who have been looking for him. They pieced together that he had something to do with the blackout and he tells the story of getting him with the Q-juice. They actually reveal that this entire time they have been working on the Q-grid, and if he just told them what he was planning on doing they could have prevented this. This is like a gut punch for shutdown, he went out into the world with a desire to fight to make it a better place because he dreams of a world where he can just be with his parents like normal, not having all of this technology in the way of everything. Now he has been turned into a monster by the very thing his parents helped to build. But his parents don’t see him it any of the other people who have gained powers as monsters, and they recognize the good a lot of them are doing. They can’t possibly understand how all of this destruction could make the world better, and then before their very eyes shutdown declares he is going to finish what he started, only to loose control of his powers and teleport away uncontrollably. His parents recognized that he couldn’t control that and he needs their help…they just had to find him.
Meanwhile Terry has finally reached Neo-Gotham and is able to get into communication with Bruce. The sun is rising and Bruce is in full chaos control mode, but all Terry cares about is seeing his family and friends and making sure they are okay. Bruce is completely against this idea, Terry has already run in without a plan and failed to take down shutdown. But no matter what, Terry went to see his friends and family. He isn’t actually sure he can be arms anymore with the suit fried, but he is about to get his chance to prove it. Suddenly there is an explosion across the city, and as he goes to check it out he discovers that Kobra troops have blown open an old Waynetech vault. We don’t see much of this situation yet, but we can already see how powerful Terry is without the suit as he begins to pick through their ranks and sneak inside.
The end of the issue actually takes us back to Dakota city and to the graduation ceremony for the tomorrow institute, which is Dakota’s version of Xavier’s academy from X-men, as they teach younger kids with powers how to properly use them. So where else better than graduation day to put those powers and skills to the test? As before everyone’s eyes, shutdown teleports in front of them ready to take static on once more. But he is literally attacking a school full of powered individuals, and now the entire graduating class is gunning for shutdown at the exact same moment. Unless he teleports away again, he doesn’t stand a chance, lol.

Idk why I keep following this series. It’s lame. It’s not even a Batman static series, it’s def a Batman beyond series. Both Static and Bruce keep correcting Terry, slowly building his character. The responsibility is on him, which I’m guessing in the last issue he’s gonna be awesome. But the story here sucks.
This issue focuses on the aftermath of the explosion from Static and Shutdown. The world is without power so the hero’s are helping.
The book also skips a lot. One minute they’re in the wreckage of the explosive, the next they’re in a different scene and location, and then a few panels later they are in a different scene and location and then again.
Oh and if you’re looking for action? LOOOK ELSEWHERE. There has been absolutely ZEROOO action. Only a brief confrontation.
I expected too much. Might just be a mid comic but I was expecting Static and Batman to kick ass. Instead they’re just arguing between themselves.
