Enslaved is book number 14 in the Brides of the Kindred series. It is a plus-length novel of around 168,000 words
Anything for you Mistress…
Thrace S’ver is an unwilling slave. Drugged and bound, he is taken to the Flesh Bazaar and put up for sale to the highest bidder. But this is not the first time Thrace has been on the auction block—he has a past full of horrors he doesn’t intend to repeat. Desperate to be free, he swears he’ll kill whoever buys him.
Lonnara Trin is the Captain of a merchant ship from the all female planet of Zetta Prime where sexual relations with a male are considered unnatural and wrong. She has no use for males personally, but she needs a big, muscular slave or her business will suffer—Thrace fits the bill.
Soon Mistress and slave are embroiled in a desperate conflict which draws them intimately together. To her surprise, Trin actually begins to have feelings for her slave. And though Thrace swore to be free, he finds himself devoted to his new Mistress. When their differences threaten to tear them apart, Trin tries to grant Thrace his freedom. But she doesn’t realize that his heart has already been… Enslaved.
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
Main characters: Thrace S'Ver & Lonnara Trin Type of Kindred bonding: Havoc and Zetta Prime
Trin buys Thrace as a slave when she needs to visit Yonnie Six for negotiations in order to sell a shipment of Jaxite crystals. In Yonnie Six, a love slave is the perfect accessory for a successful woman. As a result, together they will visit this spiteful planet that we all know and we all love to hate. A planet where men are treated as animals or pleasure objects. Thrace has agreed to accompany Trin as a willing love slave. A great adventure and a great love is about to start. Thrace, besides being a slave temporarily, has his own problems and issues. First of all, he is Havoc (Havoc are Kindred distant relatives) and as a rule Havocs do not bond. It is their code. Secondly this is the second time he is a slave. He was a love slave of an old discusting man when he was a teenager until he broke free. Thus, it is difficult to bond and it is difficult to trust - no matter how much in love he will be. On the other hand, Trin is almost certain that she is asexual. She does not like other females as it is the norm at her planet and she is not allowed to have a relationship with a man. She has even taken an oath about it. This is until the primal masculine fragrance of Thrace takes over and then it becomes difficult for her to think how important it is to remain "unpenetrated" and pure. Oh yes, there is a new planet for me to hate: Zetta Prime. I really hope that both Yonnie Six and Zetta Prime will be blown to pieces in one of the next books! In the story there is also evil villain Two (and Six's worst enemy) who is back and now he has a new face as Lord X. Plus, we also see a lot of the main characters of the previous books and we learn about their life nowadays. Trin's completely stupid behaviour made me wanna stop reading towards the end and there were also moments where the book was painful to read (I am just saying that I simply cannot tolerate cruelty to animals and I just leave it there.) Anyway I am glad I finished the book. Thrace is either in chains or wearing collar in most of the book and he is willingly doing this for Trin. And I seriously love willing men in chains ;) Finally, I would like to add that most of the books in Kindred Brides series have a hidden message. The moral of this particular story is: A man who was repeatedly raped when he was a teenager, is not less of a man...
These stories could be so good. But the women end up being annoying and weak, and ruin the plot for me. Trin was raised in a society that thought men were no more than animals and wanted nothing to do with them. But she needed a slave to trade with a woman dominated society, so she went to a slave auction. While there she found Thrace, and in the process he nearly dies from a pain collar and she buys him, using all her money in order to keep her from jail and him alive. After that it all goes downhill. Somehow, this woman who is a captain of her own crew of women, just isn't strong enough to break away from her religion, even though she'd been living away from it for years. I found this hard to believe. Other thing begin to happen and she just ends up looking weak and stupid in my eyes.
I didn't give it one star because I did finish it, and it held my interest for the most part. I may not read any more of this series though...
Meh. BTDT. This is all just kind of running on a loop for awhile. It's kinda sad when the sex gets so predictable, it's not even titillating anymore.
The characters (though once you've got your match, you're mostly relegated to a walk-on with the occasional doughnut or crying baby), the sex, the talking dirty (do the Kindred teach that routine in school? 'cos they all have the same moves and lines), even the lame psychological impediments and improbable situations that always force people to rationalize what they're doing "wrong" are all pretty much the same. "Gee, everything I've known tells me this is wrong, but I guess I have no choice here. I'll do this but it won't count because I wouldn't normally wanna. Reluctance makes it kosher, right?"
Most remarkable to me is that someone could be writing for a living with such a feeble grasp of the English language. I thought by #14, she would have figured out the spellcheck wasn't catching the awful homophones. PAY A PROPER EDITOR, FER CRYIN' OUT LOUD! Spellcheck can't tell if you're using the wrong word and whilst I applaud the increasing use of a thesaurus now and then, an editor could also help you figure out how to tighten things up and quit using the same material over and over. Whether you honestly don't know what you're saying or using some crappy speech recognition app to screw it up for you, many of these stopped being funny ten books ago.
Oddly enough, watching for the goofs has become the most entertaining part of these books. I really should start taking notes because I always think I'll remember later, but they're so ridiculous that my brain won't let me recreate them when it's time to point and mock. There were a couple new doozies here, too. I was getting pretty sick of seeing the old "peeled versus pealed" goof over and over and got a strange thrill when a fresh typo popped up. Maybe you could start writing on your iPhone. My autocorrect is always making me look stupid and it always makes my friends laugh. Then, even if the sex doesn't get better, there will at least be humor.
Okay, so out of a perverse sense of self torment I picked up a later book in this series at random to see if it gets better.
Friends, it got so much worse. Oh my god.
So in addition to raaaaaaape, this book is almost staggeringly racist and homophobic. Like, incredibly, horrifyingly, mindblowingly homophobic.
Just to get it out of the way: naming a book with a black heroine "Enslaved" is pretty goddamn gross. Making her the slave owner doesn't actually make it less gross. Also, apparently every single humanoid alien in space is white white white because nobody has ever seen anyone like our heroine - she had a super exotic black father from earth of all places! And everyone feels the need to talk about how exotic and tempting she is because of it! WOW, THAT'S NOT RACIST AT ALL.
Our heroine comes from a planet where there are no men and all the women are lesbians - except our heroine, of course. Said lesbians have very dull sounding sex where one (and only one) gets to be "the penetrator" and the other must always be the "penetratee". Yeah. A whole planet of lesbian aliens subscribing to deeply heteronormative gender roles. That's fun.
The idea of men is anathema on this planet - so much so that their very religion forbids sexual contact with men. Our heroine has, of course, been raised to believe that men are all brutal animals and must never be trusted. Also, in a twist that will of course be untwisted because this is a heterosexual romance novel, she's taken a holy vow to never be penetrated. By anything, ever. I guess women on her planet don't use tampons?
Anyway, she buys a dude so she can go trade on this other planet where all the women keep men as sex slaves who they regularly torment, rape, and otherwise brutalize. Because of course they do. Anyway, yadda yadda, they learn to trust each other and end up going to trade on Planet Domme. Only PLOT TWIST! The estate they wind up on is owned by a dirty old woman who loved her slave! Heterosexual congress is encouraged here! In fact, it's basically required that they get down and dirty so their hostess can watch them.
What with one thing and another, our heroine winds up poisoned and the only cure is for a man to fuck her and jizz inside her. Yeah. You read that correctly. He literally fucks her to save her life. She, of course, loves it and it's the most sexually satisfied she's ever been - and then her mother finds out.
So off she goes to her planet of Angry Lesbians to be purified.
AND THIS IS WHERE IT GETS SO FUCKING GROSS AND LESBOPHOBIC THAT I BASICALLY FROTHED AT THE MOUTH.
This planet full of lesbians with the man hating religion (no, that's not a hideous stereotype or anything) decides that she must be tortured to be purified. Like, they kill her horses in front of her and make her dig their graves by hand. She's scratched all over her body and the scratches are deliberately inflamed. She's going to have to mutilate herself - cut off an ear, poke out an eye, or cut off a finger - to be purified of a man's touch.
Of course she gets saved. Because of course she does. And she goes off to bond with her maaaaan and his spit heals her wounds. Because of course it does. And she never has to go back to that planet full of mean old lesbians again.
OH: additionally, of course the hero was raped by a totally horrifying old man when he was sold as a slave at age sixteen. BECAUSE OF COURSE HE WAS. All those gays and lesbians: so predatory and cruel and disgusting, am I right???? UGH.
Basically, fuck this book, fuck this series, and fuck this author. I'm so glad I didn't pay for these books and am viciously flipping off the author's "please buy my books and don't torrent or borrow them because they pay my bills". I am, however, sad that the friend I borrowed them from paid for them. That sucks for her.
This book got very mixed reviews but I absolutely loved it. This is first book were both H/h are aliens. Thrace is Havoc and Trin is Zetta Prime both dislike the other sex. Havoc are part kindred and they believe not to bond themselves to a female which shortens his life to hers. Trin is a Zetta Prime daughter which are originally from Yonnie Six but they have no contact or use for males and have belief that it will send them to hell if they are penetrated my a male. So both have major hang ups but surprisingly work really well together. Have a serious hate for Yonnie Six but thankfully this has a lot less male torture in it. Great HEA.
I love, love Evageline Anderson and her other books but I hated this one! I felt like there was zero spark between Trin and Thrace. She buys him as a slave and then BOOM he's just magically in love with her? There was really no build up of them getting to know each other.
The unpenetrated and weird religious stuff was just too much.
I felt like it only got good in the end when some of the old characteres came back.
So much so that I wanted to spit at my own ipad reading this.
It seems Anderson loves nothing quite so much as contrivance and she’s done it so many times that she’s got it down to a T. There are a lot of things she’s done so many times, so of course at this point she’s downright formulaic in her work. Formulaic with what she ‘excels’ at and formulaic with what makes me want to buy physical copies of her books just so I can host a public bonfire with them as the kindling.
I’ve read enough Anderson books that nothing should’ve surprised me, because I’m used to this excrement from her by now;
- I should’ve expected all the convenient junk she made happen just to make her story unfold a certain way.
- Should’ve expected the utter black hole of world building and set up to begin to make me buy any of the junk she insists on telling me (rather than showing me).
- Should’ve expected the stupid miscommunications conflicts,
- The conflicting and inappropriate tonality,
- The poorly represented heroine because Anderson only knows how to write [at best] two kinds of girl,
- The self-centered protagonists,
- The waste of space background characters who’d once had their own books and now must appear to be sparkle sparklebestiessparkle sparkle with the current heroine because Anderson can’t sleep peacefully otherwise,
- The superfluous love scenes between former protagonists I couldn’t care less about to offset their penny section spectator moments retelling me junk I just read,
- The completely unsatisfying end to the biggest villains,
- The absolutely moronic “judgmental little voice” talking in the heroine’s mind when anything sexy happens with the ML (male love interest),
- The abrupt switch from frightened, uncertain virgin to seasoned love kitten near the end.
- And above all I should’ve expected the cast made up entirely of criminally stupid people.
I like to give something of a clean slate when I start a book so my opinion of the author doesn’t influence how I feel about what I’m reading (...at least immediately) but even though I fell back into the rhythm of reading an Anderson work fairly quickly it still pissed me off every time she did something to check off the boxes in her formulaic little list of ‘how to write a romance novel’.
She’s so very formulaic that this book wasn’t an original, so much as a mix of the 22nd book (though I do realize that the 22nd is more a copy of this book than the other way around) of this series and Becca, the catholic girl burdened by catholic guilt (sorry I don’t remember what number that one was). Very similar themes, very similar characterization, and strikingly similar execution - down to the lay out of the dialogue and its subject, and even the physical positioning of the characters in one scene (a near carbon copy of one of my favorite scenes from the 22nd book where the ML talks the girl to orgasm while she surreptitiously touches herself). I’m not even upset about the carbon copy scene because I loved that scene in the 22nd book and I loved it here, but I recognize that the repetition is not an indication of good writing in the least.
Given all of this, as I read and got back into the Anderson rhythm, I came to the realization that with Anderson’s clear and unfailing dedication to her formula, if I wanted keep her; to continue reading her, I’d have to judge her differently than I would most authors.
And I do want to keep her.
This book may have in its execution amounted to all of maybe 1 star, but I realize I can’t expect anything even remotely approaching quality where Anderson is concerned. There are maybe two things she does that I like, and as she can’t any more help writing them than I can wanting them (for now), I don’t care how many times she rewrites the same scenes— hell, the same books, as long as she keeps writing soft, uncertain girls who are confronted with wonderfully complimentary dirty talk, Anderson will remain my main guilty pleasure until I’m sick of it.
So that said, for the most part, I’ll rate this and any Anderson novel I read from this point on for my enjoyment (as I usually do) but I’ll really only focus that rating on my enjoyment of the love scenes. Because if it wasn’t clear, it’s not worth reading Anderson books for any other reason - at least not for me.
I would’ve abandoned this book and refused to ever even look at an Evangeline Anderson book again if not for the love scenes.
Keeping all that in mind, my rating of this book would’ve been maybe a 3.8 I might’ve generously rounded up to 4 stars.
However
I cannot overlook the ending of this book.
The potentially offensive way she described black women, and the offensive thing she was saying in this novel about same sex relationships aside (I’m not even going to touch that because most of the insult was, while heavily implied, defensibly ambiguous), Anderson decided she wanted to look like she was keeping abreast of the times and decided to take on a major topic that’s quite prolific in today’s society.
Mental health.
Obviously it would’ve been a wonderful thing [in theory] for Anderson to try to bring more awareness to something that can be horribly debilitating and that so many people are struggling with...if she had any understanding of it in the first place.
It was clear that Anderson attempted to do some research on clinical depression but had no real understanding of it, and her treatment of it left the impression that she didn’t have a wealth of respect for it either.
So she writes that the heroine has frigging textbook symptoms of depression, acknowledges that it could’ve been a possible diagnosis, especially given all the recent trauma she’s been through, but then immediately brushes that aside because it couldn’t be that. It’s much worse, she’s catatonic and refusing to eat or do anything - depression couldn’t begin to compete with symptoms of that magnitude.
Obviously to Anderson depression is like stubbing your toe, then shaking it off after you jump around from the pain for a little bit then just moving on with life like it never happened.
Everyone handles depression differently - everyone handles trauma differently, but this was just friggingdisrespectful.
So as far as I’m concerned, Anderson doesn’t deserve a voice to speak to me about anything anymore. Until I’m sick of her formulaic characterization and love scenes I’m only using her for slightly more dignified pornography.
And I’m dropping this to 2 stars for the insult to people who struggle with their mental health.
Captain Lonnara Trin needs a male body slave if she wants to deal with the inhabitants of Yonnie Six, a matrilineal planet of women who believe men should be submissive in all ways to women. As a diplomat for the Zetta Prime ruling body and a merchant, her successful negotiations require her to conform to their norms so if a body slave is what she needs, a body slave is what she'll get.... for appearances only as she has taken a sacred holy vow to remain an unpenetrated female. A vow that if broken will bring disgrace to herself and her family and severe consequences.
Thrace S’ver can't believe he's been captured by slavers who intend to auction him off. As a Havoc, a genetic cousin of the Kindred, he could escape if not for the fact he is fitted with a pain collar. Regardless, whoever buys him will be in for a shock as he plans to kill them at the first opportunity as he will never willingly consent to being a slave ever.
How far the mighty have fallen when Thrace is purchased by Trin and he feels he should give her equal value for his purchase price by playing the role of her body slave while she completes her negotiations on Yonnie Six. Mistress and slave will need to put on a very convincing act to convince the Mistresses that all is as it seems as Trin's very future is at stake.
* * *
This is the 14th installment in the "Brides Of The Kindred" series where the action returns to Yonnie Six, a femdom type hierarchy planet. Not a standalone installment as the series builds off the previous installments so important facts and history would be lost if you haven't read and/or followed the series to this point.
I have enjoyed this series and the many many different Kindred stories but this one isn't a favorite. I will probably be in the minority in this but for me it is heavy on the smut and light on plot premise/story line. It does touch on multiple controversial morality issues and ethics but for the most part the story features way too many adult content driven intimacy scenes between the main characters. It became a bet on how soon until they'd next do the nasty versus trying to determine any mystery/suspense slanted conclusion.
As for the plot and story line itself. I tried to think of an analogy that made sense and the closest I could come to was this resembled an erotica sci-fi version of Alice In Wonderland. From the dream-sphere fountain, shromp, passion berries, blood stone phallus, Pompa, B'Rugh, Lady Tam-tam, Lord X, etc. it was just way too over the top and fanciful to be taken seriously. This will appeal to some but not me.
I did appreciate seeing the various characters from previous series make cameo appearances. It's always a plus for me to integrate the old and new to provide series continuity. Of course some of the returning characters not so much but you have to take the good, bad, and evil characters in stride as life mimics the blending of those who bring pleasure to one's life and those who you'd rather just communicate on a yearly basis via Christmas Card exchanges.
Lastly, show don't tell. I want to be pulled into a story by making the different scenes come alive through action, sensory descriptions, feelings, and vivid imagery versus utilizing dialogue to accomplish the same. Enough with the "I'm gonna _______" and all that. Dirty talk is one thing but a running commentary of events..... so not a fan. I've noticed this trend in the last several installments but hadn't thought to mention it until now. Success for me is when I can picture the story in my mind and embellish on it versus having it presented as fact accomplished. An example: what would a six legged, two heart, four sex organ animal look like? And why should I care? Vague non-spoiler reference to think about. :D
I'm enjoying the series as a whole and the Kindred men. After all. The bigger they are, the harder they fall (for Earth women) right. :D
OMG so before starting this book, I was thinking of the Brides of the Kindred and this author, Evangeline Anderson, and how I really enjoyed everything she had written that I had read (3 books before this one). I rated all of them 4 stars. I desperately wanted to read another of her books. I thought about buying the full 25? book set on Amazon but it was $96, and my dad pays off my credit card, so he would definitely see that expense.
A lot of the Brides of the Kindred's plots looked interesting, but this one in particular. I've read Book 1 of the series and then Book 19...I know, so out of order. I think I may continue reading the series in order, however. Though I shouldn't leave too much time in between reading this book and book 15 since they're related.
Plot: Captain Trin, a daughter of Zetta Prime, is looking for a slave to be her body guard, which is a necessity for selling goods to the mistresses of Yonnie Six. Trin is a trader & captain of a spaceship. Trin sorta accidentally purchases Thrace, who had been recently recaptured as a slave, for an exorbitant price, which bankrupts her and leads to the rest of the adventures in the book. I knew Trin was going to be half-Earthan, aka half-human, when she said that her mom got some exotic sperm from a blue planet in the Milky Way Galaxy...I think her father was African American (love how that's considered "exotic") because Trin had "creamy brown skin" as the author reminded us repeatedly--which I didn't mind because I imagined her as very attractive in my head.
Thrace is Havoc, a species which are a distant cousin to the Kindred. The main difference between Havoc and Kindred is that Kindred want to bond whereas Havoc avoid bonding with females at all costs. Also, I think the Havoc live longer...and they live long lives.
Even though stuff was going on since page 1, I found the beginning to be a bit slow. The romance was definitely a slow burn, forbidden one, because look, Thrace and the Havoc culture of not wanting to bond with females wasn't the problem. It was the stupid fucking Zetta Prime. On Zetta Prime, they consider males to be animals and believe that allowing yourself to be penetrated by one is a terrible thing that damns your soul to Hell. Most females on Zetta Prime are actually lesbians who penetrate each other. Trin always thought there was something wrong with her for not being attracted to women, which is really ironic as heterosexuality is the norm in society & some ppl, homophobic ppl, would consider females loving females to be wrong. Because Trin isn't attracted to females, she took the oath to be one of the Unpenetrated. Trin takes these beliefs very seriously, especially the one about that it's an evil thing to let a man penetrate her. That's why even though this is erotica, they only have vaginal sex twice throughout the whole book. Let me say, I hated Zetta Prime & everything they stood for was horrible!! I didn't fully understand why so many reviews I read said how Zetta Prime is a new planet to hate until I read the whole book.
Trin went from being a badass heroine that I had a lot of respect for at the beginning to being a weak, indoctrinated person. I mean, maybe I can't judge, maybe I would have had to be raised that way with those beliefs, and then I would see if I would still stubbornly hold on to them like Trin did even though my beliefs were constantly challenged by other people. In other words, maybe I would have done the same had I been in her shoes. HOWEVER, Trin's refusal to allow him to penetrate her (even when she was on the verge of death & penetration and insemination by a male was the only cure) and constant thoughts of "I can't do this!" & "This is bad!" and "Goddess forgive me!" eventually grated on my nerves. That's why the book lost 2 stars. Tsk tsk Trin, it's all your fault.
I was thinking about giving 5 stars for this book when Trin and Thrace were at Lady Tam-Tam's Dreaming Hills estate because the way that fate and all the characters were trying to get them to be intimate together amused me & had me smiling. Also, I would bet money that Lady Needra wasn't from Zetta Prime because she obviously had no reservations about being penetrated by her slave Yorth...even at the dinner table no less!
This was a long book, over 600 pages, but the book never dragged for me. Though I could see it dragging for other readers & maybe them skipping the erotic scenes.
One last note: Usually, in books when the guys call the girl "baby", it doesn't do anything for me...but in here, it really did. I thought it was really sweet and tender. (Probably because it was juxtaposed with "Mistress".)
I have read this series since the first book and always enjoy going back because not only do you get to meet new characters you also get a chance to catch up on the lives and stories of previous Kindred and their brides. The situation is unique and gives another view of what life is like for those outside our universe who work and try to survive in what can be a very hostile environment. The world building continues with each story which brings us more than new characters it expands on the situations while filling in back story that we may overlooked before.
Thrace S'ver is an unwilling slave. He and his second mate are drugged and sent to the Flesh Bazaar to be sold as slaves. He was on the aucton block once before and swears that he will kill whoever buys him this time. Lonnara Trin is Captain of a merchant ship from Zetta Prime, an all female world where sexual relations with men are seen as unnatural.
The duo soon find themselves in a desperate conflict that draws them together. Trin finds herself having feelings for her slave, something that she knows is wrong according to everythig she has ever been taught since she was a little girl. Thrace finds himself devoted to his new mistress even though he he would never have thought himself willing to give of himself like that to anyone.
Both Havoc's and the daughters of Zetta Prime have a lot things they will not do based on their code of conduct and each of them find themselves giving in to more than they would ever think they would. For me that made this even better because there was a sacrifice from each for the other. This was just a really good look into what can be given and lost in order to find love. There is also a nice doubling back to the Mothership and the last couple to arrive there. We also have the continuation of a story thought to have been ended. The more you lesrn the more you want. Things keep getting more complex which makes the story get better. Enjoy this!
I absolutely adore this series and it was with great delight that I spotted the author offering copies to fans to read for free! This is a series of books that I've had such fun reading and yes I'm the first to admit that the reader needs to suspend all sense of belief when devouring these stories but it's sci fi romance so for me anything goes ! This the fourteenth book picks up where the previous story Cursed left off with a Havoc warrior ( distant cousin to the Kindred) being offered up for auction as a slave. Thrace the very unwilling slave has spent years putting his unpleasent past behind him and is determed to kill whoever buys him and reclaim hs freedom. What he hadn't expected was to be bought by Trin, an honourable young woman who simply wants hm as back up. When Trin finds herself in danger Thrace rescues her but their ordeals are only just beginning and pretty soon being a slave to Trin is not the worst thing that could happen to Thrace becase losing her is far far worse! This is a series that I find totally irresistible with it's take charge heroes who are often damaged and heroines who are perhaps not always kickass but nevertheless tie these big strong guys up in knots. This story had the sexy scenes that this author excels at although I'm not such a huge fan of the whole voyeur vibe that these characters seem to have to go through . Ms Anderson gives us a heroine with strong moral fibre and it's an unusual twist as she struggles with coming to terms with the possibilities of a male in her life. Thrace has an awful lot of baggage to deal with but his developing feelings for Trin make it very hard for him to despise his mistress and indeed he quickly comes to realise that she has in many respects been brain washed by the society she has grown up in. I think this is where a much darker tone takes over the story and there will be some readers perhaps uncomfortable wth certan events . No spoilers here but it's quite difficult to read without feeling emotional but happily the Kindred always support each other. So the world building as usual is amazing and the authors imagination just keeps stretching until it clearly knows no bounds. Whether it's items of clothing, physical descriptions or unusual food stuffs there's always something new to picture in the readers minds eye. New worlds , amazing adventures and yes very erotic encounters , add in an old enemy of the Kindred and this series just does not run out of steam. I thoroughly enjoy these books and cannot wait to find out what will happen next. I was gifted a copy of this in exchange for an honest review
This was a different spin on BoK. The H is Havoc-descended from Kindred who do not bond or dream share with mates. The h is from Zetta prime where there is no male interaction. Both are forced together as mistress and slave on Yonnie Six. They have to pretend to be in love, they are forced to do things way out of character and comfort, but learn to trust each other. They also learn pleasure from having a mate and male to take care of you. Two is the big bad from Enhanced, cloned as Lord X. The prophesy and Goddess are pretty cryptic,so I have to stay tuned for Targeted with the Verrak assassin and the Earth school teacher.
This is book 14 in the series, so the world author places her characters in is well set, and getting more and more diverse, so in spite of these books being erotic romances, they have much to offer in other aspects too. Personally, I can't wait to see what kind of otherwordly place she'll imagine next. Here we meet another surprised, unsuspected and unexpected couple coming from different cultures that by rule complicate anything and everything connected to sex. And when we finally think that we saw everything on our planet Earth, Anderson invents a whole new set of twists and kinks, for all x-rated tastes. At least one side has to be reluctant when it comes to newly-forming relationship, and in her books it's often both (or more) sides, so it's a miracle they manage to come together at all. We also have a proverbial villain that will do his best to complicate lives of the couple, a set of less important bad guys, and in the background, a cavalry consisting of heroes and heroines from the previous books and Goddess in charge. This all wouldn't be enough if our heroes wouldn't have a goal, and in this case it is to make a deal that will get our heroine out of financial trouble she found herself in after she bought off our hero from ruthless slaver who tried to kill him. Thrace is a Havoc, a race close to Kindred, but they don't willingly bond and don't take mates. Trin is from Zetta Prime, where there are no men, and relationships between two genders are considered sacrilegious. Thrace has been enslaved and heavily abused before, but he still accepts to be her willing slave until they get back money she paid for him. She needs to earn a lot of money, and fast, but it's not easy, and she needs Thrace's help to do it. That's where the usual fun part starts. It's impossible not to admire all the ways the pair will be sexually exposed, humiliated, forced to overstep boundaries they have set and simply enjoy the whole craziness around them, no matter what their original convictions and beliefs are. We're also introduced to a whole new set of sex's healing uses and properties. And all along, while it's impossible not to admire Thrace and his willingness to do anything for the girl he's falling in love with, for the life of me I can't understand what he sees in her, cause she never accepts him willingly, and she's ready to leave him in any given moment, pushing him away throughout the book. And there lies the problem with a number of authors' characters in the series. They're rarely ready to fight for people they supposedly love, they change their intentions to stay or go faster than they can turn around. There's no sense of devotion in them, they give up at the first sign of trouble, and they generally represent people that mothers warn their children about. Seems like without all the bonding stuff those relationships would fall apart in a blink, because those couples would never even be together without peer pressure. Too many flighty women that can't decide what to do, capable of confusing even the best of men (and let's face it, men get confused with far smaller issues). However, when it comes to this book, Trin wasn't the only irritating (and generally standard unwilling and insecure, superficial woman, who claims to be a fighter but is too dumb to live) thing. I was on the edge of screaming with number of times words "penetrated" and "unpenetrated" were used. If they were part of drinking game, it would turn ugly all too soon. But, aside of Trin's character flaws and some verbal repeating, it's entertaining, imaginative book that will appeal to romance readers who love their romances hot and dirty and set in the science fiction setting. It's good to see some old characters reappearing and see how they're advancing in their own lives, and the feeling of the incoming threat is enough to make readers want to read the next book in the series. Three out of five stars. Some stronger and more decisive characters would improve the whole series.
Every time a new Brides of The Kindred book is released I wonder what wonderful new worlds Evangeline Anderson will take us to and which awesome, strange or scary ones we will be revisiting. What is totally miraculous is infinite amount of creativity and imagination the author possesses and pours into each book, so that each story is totally unique and mind blowing. So welcome back to the world of the Kindred, book 14 focuses on Thrace, a Havoc, which is a cousin of the Kindred, and Trin, half earthling/half Zetta Prime (extreme feminist offshoot of the Yonnie 6 planet).
Thrace is a Havoc, they do not believe in bonding to a female as it will shorten their long lifespan. At 16 he had been captured and bought by an evil sadistic male who killed. Then he repeatedly raped Thrace while trying to force his devotion. He finally escapes years later. Thrace has been living as a free man now for many years a successful, proud Captain of his own space vessel. Still the nightmares he has lived through have never dimmed. Despite his history Thrace has grown into a good man, strong, loyal and trustworthy, all alpha but still empathetic and sensitive to others needs. A gorgeous male, seven feet of honed muscle with blue/black hair and hypnotizing ice blue eyes.
Trin is a strong female who is captain of her own space ship, she is an interplanetary trader who appears intelligent and fearless, willing to put herself at risk for the sake of her crew. She is from a planet that views men as little more than animals, too low to even keep as slaves like they do on the female run Yonnie six. Above all she prides herself on being one of the unpenetrated, not even desiring to bond to another female as most do on her planet. She has been raised in an all female cult, that brainwashes their children against any sexual encounters with men as a crime against their Goddess of Judgement. Needing a male slave to help her image while trading with the Yonnites, Trin sees Thrace in danger at the auction and ends up rescuing him. Despite the severe circumstances Thrace is unable to deny his attraction to Trin. She is not so easy to be convinced although she knows there is something there. How do two people who are never supposed to come together find a way to overcome the biggest challenges of their lives as well as overcome prejudices ingrained in them from childhood?
The plot takes on many twists and turns with wild adventures in many different fantastical places, lots of suspense, tension and excitement. There is the return of the evil Two (Enhanced), new characters such as the voyeuristic Lady TamTam on Yonnie Six and many more unexpected surprises. Celebrations involving dream bubbles (I want them at my next party), and lots of major hot sexy romance.
The book deserves a 10 on my "O" scale of hotness. The sex scenes are plentiful, mesmerizing and really woven well into the story. In my opinion nobody writes romantic erotica like Evangeline Anderson. From the sexy hot language to blushing behind my ipad love scenes the author truly knows her female readers. Above all the story is about love, loyalty and the "humanlike" spirit. Thrace's love and devotion for Trin despite so many odds against them melted my heart.
This is an awesome story that also paves the way for several other plots and storylines to come. Also love how the characters from the other books play important and sizable roles, again making this more like a sage than just a series. If you haven't read any of this series start with book one, Claimed. Read in order enjoy the awesome journey. Before you know it you'll be like me impatiently awaiting book 15.
Overall: Trin is in the skin market to get a slave that can back her up when she is making deals with the Yonniettes. When she first sees the men, she passes over the big guy because she doesn't think that she will be able to control him, but the slaver starts to talk to her and before she can decide if she wants to buy him or not the slaver starts to kill with him the pain collar. Trin ends up paying 50,000 credits for him, so that she doesn't have to go to jail. When she first brings him aboard the ship, she is wary as is her crew, but after paying that price she feels that maybe if she treats him like her pet horses that she can tame him. After a week or so of getting to know each other, Trin realizes that he is not like the pets that she has on her planet and plans to free him ,but after she makes the deal at the Demon Eye. While at the Demon Eye she gets drugged by Two and Thrace comes and saves the day just in the nick of time. After this point, Thrace and Trin make an agreement that she will free him once he feels like his debt is paid to her. They head down to Yonnie Six to make a deal with a Lady, but before that can be done their beliefs and religions are put to the test in more ways than one. Thrace has to find a way to let go of his past and Trin has to find a way to forget everything that has been taught to her and start a new way of thinking. Towards the end there is a lot of disturbing things that happen to Trin, but he Mother of All Life makes Trin see things for what they really are and Thrace and Trin get their HEA. The story also gives you an upcoming look at to what the next couple are going to be about. I'm so excited and I can't wait to read it.
Pros: I just want to start out by saying that I'm so glad the author took us back to Yonnie Six and in a whole new way. It was an exciting journey and a book I wish I could jump into and ejoy with the characters. I really loved how strong and loving of a character that Trin was. Even though her beliefs were different, she tried her hardest to make sure that everyone was safe and taken care of. I really like Thrace and how he tried his hardest not to let his past take over his future. It was crazy to read about his flash backs and to read about what happened to him and than see all the things he did with Trin. Ms. Anderson did not disappoint with this book and I can't wait for the next one.
Cons: I personally didn't have any Cons with this story.
Characters: Trin & Thrace
Page Turner: YES!!
Series Cont: YES!
Recommend: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND SERIES!
What would happen if a slave and his mistress fell in love? What if they were from two very different worlds, one all female and one all male? Could it really work out? Enslaved book fourteen in the Brides of the Kindred series by Evangeline Anderson, once again brings us to the collectively created world of Kindred Warriors, strong women and bonds created by the Goddess herself.
Continuing the storyline from the last novel, we are thrust into a story that will have you in stitches one moment, in tears the next and yearning for more until the very end. Ms. Anderson’s creative mind will blow you away as you read page after page. The visions she develops, both captivates and inspires.
Thrace S’ver is a Havoc. The Havoc long ago were a part of the Kindred race, but renounced their partnership and declared never to bond with any female. The Havoc much like the Kindred are huge males, who protect those they care about. When Thrace was young he was sold as a slave. It was a dark and horrific experience for him. However, after finding himself on the auction block again he vows to kill whoever buys him. Then he meets his new mistress, Trin and unwillingly, everything changes for Thrace.
Lonnara Trin is from Zetta Prime an all female world. She is the captain of her own ship and has found herself in need of a male for business purposes, of course. Trin must acquire a male from the Flesh Bazaar to serve as her slave so that she may sell her goods to a dominating sister world, Yonnie Six. Instantly when she sees Thrace up for auction she is drawn to him. Although she doesn’t understand this desire he creates in her, they set out on an adventure that only the Goddess herself could've predicted.
When push comes to shove, Evangeline Anderson delivers time after time. Her masterful art of penmanship has me enthralled as a reader. I can’t seem to get enough of her Brides of the Kindred series. This book as well as the rest of her series is a must have in any library. With every word and every page I become more deeply entrenched in her novels. Hoping that the stories will never end. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next novel.
Let me start of by saying you really need to read this as a series. Its not meant to be a stand alone novel. There are too many past characters that if you didn't start from the beginning with Claimed (which is free right now on Kindle!) you are missing a ton of back story! You could read Enslaved on its own but it wouldn't be as fulfilling!
This was yet another highly erotic journey into Mrs Anderson's world of the Kindred! Who I personally fell in love with back at book one, Claimed. What women doesn't love the idea of attractive, huge, emotionally devoted, protective, well endowed, stallion of a lover, who will treat her like she is the center of his world! This is the trait of all bonded Kindred!
"I imagine tasting you lower too. Spreading your Thighs and taking my time, lapping your pussy with my tongue until you moan and pull my hair. I want to feel your juices all over my face... want to feel your quivering against my mouth."
Holly smuttness! This was one hot erotic read!!! I fell in love with both Thrace and Trin and I was right there with them through this entire story. I was a little worried it was going to get dark delving into Thrace's wounded past, however, I was pleased with how it was presented and the amount. I really liked how Trin battled with herself ever step of the way in her relationship with Thrace. She really struggled with her religious beliefs and I felt horrible for both her and him. Thrace, like any Kindred male no matter what tried to come between them loved Trin so much he would do anything for her even if it meant his own defilement of disfigurement just to protect her.
One of the things I love best about all the Kindred novels, they are so wonderfully written with a fantastic stories that keep you engaged the entire way. You care about all the characters and you are brought into the Kindred world so thoroughly it is tough to put the book down and go to bed! You also dream about 6'8" hunky dream men who always put your needs in front of their own! Um sign me up!
I can not wait for the next novel Kindred 15 Targeted due out this spring!....Sara
I loved this book another amazing book from Evangeline Anderson she takes us back to Yonnie 6 where the women rule and the men are less then dirt in most places but where are adventure takes us surprised me Trin is from zetta prime a sister world to yonnie 6 the difference is they think sex with men is disgusting she is at a slave trade market because in order for the yonites to take her seriously she must have a body slave while providing she come by a merchant who is selling Thrace a havoc a distant cousin to the kindred they are different they don't bond with women because it shortens their life spans and it just something they don't do they don't want to be tied down to any women when Thrace refuses to obey a command the trader who is selling him uses the pain collie a fight happens and 50,000 bucks or I forgot the pay thing but Trin has spent all her crews money and hers so they must buy power crystals in a dangerous place called the Devils Edge where she desires to go alone her crew didn't trust Thrace so the medical officer holds him at gun point tells him to leave he asks where Trin is and he freaks and saves her they get the crystals and he deduced he will repay his debt That cost her and her crew money he agrees to be her body slave and they go to Yonnie 6 we're she must sell the power crystals to make up for the money lost I tell you this book was great I loved it and I couldn't put it down Will Trin and Thrace become a couple or will her beliefs of nit being penetrated by anyone get in the way will she sell the power crystals and who is the mysterious master x to find out I strongly suggest you buy this book it is worth every penny 5 gold stars I received this arc for an honest review
Fans of this series will not be disappointed in the 14th installment!! All the elements that we have grown to luv are here and if you are a newbie to this one, be sure to start from the beginning with Claimed or you may be a wee bit lost.
Enslaved introduces us to Thrace, a Havoc aka cousin form of Kindred, and Trin, a trader and Captain of her own space craft from Zetta Prime, an all female clan who have nothing to do with men. Trin finds herself in need of a body slave in order to trade with the females of Yonnie Six, and goes to the flesh market to procure one. Don't want to spoil anything, so you'll have to read the story to see how she ends up buying Thrace. Thrace and Trin face several trials during their journey to Yonnie Six, which brings them closer together as a couple, as well as elements that drive them apart.
2.5 2,500 kindle pages too long. Nothing original vs all other stories in this series but I liked the H more than most. The h drove me butt-f crazy with her religious stupidity...but that was the point. Can always count on Anderson for light smexy smex in the alien world.
I am a devoted fan of the Kindred Series. But I am disappointed that I have to rate this book 3 stars. Don't get me wrong; the storyline and characters meld well with the rest of the series, but overall there are some issues I have with this particular storyline and it's main characters.
We see a Zetta Prime Female named Trin, and a Havoc Kindred named Thrace. Both characters have problems. Trin comes from a world distant to Yonnie Six. Zetta Prime absolutely hates males and clothes them. Their females treat males like pets and find them repulsive and useless. Yonnie Six females treat their males like slaves. Thrace was sold into slavery at the age of 16. He watched the Master who brought him shoot his Sire. The next 10 years Thrace spent being torchured and vowing to escape slavery.
Enter the pain plot: Trin needs a body slave in order to trade on Yonnie Six. She will not be taken seriously unless a male is her slave. Thrace was going to be sold as a slave when Trin decides to buy him and save his life. For someone who hated being a slave, Thrace then dedicates himself to helping Trin out.
Throughout this story, we see conflict, passion, demise, pain, anger and resentment. We see death. Despair. Rejection. Two people who have very valid reasons to hating one another. Yet they spend half the story making each other angry and upset.
My main concerns are: Thrace jumped too freely back into slavery. And Trin holds stoically to her brainwashed beliefs - even when faced with danger and the actual truth.
I love how these characters find themselves in the end. And find each other. But i don't like how this story portrayed them. There were times I hated Trin for her stupid beliefs. I hated how she would use those beliefs to hurt Thrace. To look through rose coloured windows. I wanted to reach into the story and bang some sense into her. Tell her that what she was taught was a warped reality totally different to the actual truth. I really did not want her to go through some hard truths in the end, but it was the only way to get her to WAKE UP and face reality. Thrace on the other hand, I found him confusing. His emotions were all over the place. One minute he is raging with vengeance, then the next he is tender. For someone who has had a very dark past it annoys me that he can so willingly go back into slavery. He talks the talk but cannot walk the walk. It irritates me that he can be so smooth with words but cannot face his past. Bring forth the anger, show me the pain. Not the tenderness all the time!
I do admire the shocks and the twists. And how the villain plotline is going. This is probably the only reason I kept reading this book. I love the Two has also become Lord X, and has gotten one step ahead of the Kindred. I need to see how further books turn out with this villain. Two has been a real threat to the Kindred for a while now. And he always has tricks up his sleeve to keep on living
Bring on the next book! I do hope we have a better pairing storyline. I am not too sure how I feel about this book, only to say it was adequate. Not happy or surprising, or wow, just adequate
This is Thrace and Trin’s story. It was a very difficult read. This book isn’t for everyone and although I finished it my only real issue is a lack of comeuppance. But this is a long series and maybe the flaming meteors will land in another book.
The first part is actually quite similar to the previous book — almost the same set up. But then it veers down a dark and twisted, voyeuristic and rapey path.
Srsly. I don’t usually speak in “trigger” language. But this one has them all over the place. Like a minefield.
Thrace is from a world of males who don’t bond with women, unlike their Kindred cousins. Trin is from a planet that is as misandrist as it can be, but for the laughable sperm harvesting they conduct.
Dark, rapey path…
Thing is, it’s well written. Well plotted. Themes are balanced and make sense. Yes, it’s alien erotica so the sex is a bit silly. For example, I would have liked the “mistress” crap to be dropped when they finally *overcome* the mountains of triggers. Alas… But I did picture Rowlf the Dog with Fozzi the Bear’s voice for Yipper and surely that’s worth something?
I didn’t like how Thrace reverted to being okay with a situation that should have had him — rightfully so — homicidal. The instalove here didn’t quite fill that gap in time for me to stay on board. Even so, he’s a sweet guy who is being pinballed all over the place.
I also didn’t like how Trin failed to confront reality and hid behind the ridiculously-unsafe safety of her homeworld. Because, damn. Someone doesn’t like horses.
And, for the record:
Lady Tam-tam can “insist” all she wants, horny old hag. I insist she GFH. Twice. With a rusty garden hoe. After it’s been used by that miserable bitch, Betina.
“Obeisance” is used 24 times. That’s approximately 22 times too many.
Lastly, some cultures really are better than others and fiction — and fact — prove that time and time again. Hooray for the Mother Ship.
Errors: “…different one Look…” — one. “…male to penetrated her—…” — penetrate “…the wrongest thing…” — not a word “…she would have lay down and…” — would have lain “…Becca, who was there with Far and Truth said.” — Truth, “…too easy…to convenient about…” — too convenient
I'd call this one a 4.5, rounded up. Boy, Anderson is really getting dark with these last two in the series. This one is all about religious zealots, punishment, slavery, SA, and many other disturbing topics. I can't believe how many different types of aliens and relationships she keeps creating every book.
In this story, Trin is a captain who tries to buy a slave so she can sell some gems on Yonnie Six, the planet where men are slaves. She sees Thrace almost killed and ends up buying him with all the money she has. Then the two of them go to Yonnie Six to try to sell the gems. They get sucked into one of the many crazy ladies on this planet, this one, Lady Tam-Tam, was apparently in love with her slave so she likes Trin and Thrace because they pretend to be in love.
Trin is from another planet that is similar to Yonnie Six, only they don't appreciate men at all. You either bind yourself to another female and get a sperm donation to have a female child, or you are alone. So Lady Tam-Tam making them do all of these raunchy things is even worse for Trin because she has been in this religious cult her whole life where she's told that if she has a relationship with a man she'll need to essentially be kicked out of the community *and* tortured.
Meanwhile Thrace was enslaved as a teenager, then got free, then was caught again. His story comes out and it's not much better, as he was repeatedly molested by his owner.
And also back comes Two, the evil second in command from the last couple of books. It was a crazy, dramatic, super erotic story as usual in this series.
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 14th in the Brides Of the Kindred Series and ends in an HEA. Thrace is enslaved and sold to TrIn as a bodyguard. Thrace suffered horrible abuse at the hands of a previous slave lord, so he is not very cooperative towards TrIn. TrIn was raised to believe men are useless and sex with men evil and against her religion.
>As Thrace and TrIn learn to work together, they have to pose as a slave couple in order to conduct some lucrative business. They need to "perform" as a loving couple, but both of them have issues regarding sexual relations. The villain, Two, appears again, causing problems. This book deals with self sacrifice and brainwashing. TrIn and Thrace learn to overcome all odds and their beliefs in order to get their HEA.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the story 5 stars. The story themes tend to be similar, but the characters are all so different, which makes this series fun.
