Ahhhh! I have been watching this book FOREVER! And now it is in my hands! It's so pretty! Sprayed edges...vibrant colors, matte finish to the hardcover jacket. I feel like I need a fancy Starbucks drink alongside it.
I can't tell you how excited I am for this Jane Austen meets Pirates of the Caribbean mix. I gobbled the first few chapters last night and I'm up early to read again!
I finished it! My reward for launching a novel. I loved it! My teens are now binging it :). So much fun with a Jane Austen meets Pirates of the Caribbean vibe. Sweet, noble, plenty of twists and turns to keep me absorbed. Spice-free romance that sparkles.

There are some books you pick up expecting a serious Regency romance, and then there are books that simply invite you on an adventure. A Lady’s Guide to Love and Pirates is definitely the latter.

Jennifer Moore delivers a fun, lighthearted pirate adventure with plenty of action, humor, and a sweet romance. Think more Pirates of the Caribbean with a touch of Jane Austen than a strictly historical Regency novel. The author even explains in her notes that she intentionally didn’t adhere too closely to Regency realities because doing so would have made the story much darker with the harsh realities of piracy, poverty, and class divisions. I appreciated knowing her vision going into the story.
Annabelle is just as comfortable navigating the open sea as she is London’s ballrooms, and her determination makes her an enjoyable heroine to follow. Her partnership with Captain Hawke begins with plenty of sparks as they clash over leadership, but watching their relationship develop amid storms, danger, and a daring rescue mission made for an entertaining journey.
This was such an enjoyable poolside read. I found myself smiling through much of the story because it never tried to be anything other than a fun escape. The romance stays completely clean with only kisses, making it a great choice for readers who enjoy wholesome historical romance.
One of my favorite parts of the book was the author’s note at the end, where Jennifer Moore shares the inspiration behind the story. If your edition includes discussion questions, they would make this an excellent pick for a book club.
If you’re looking for a swashbuckling adventure with memorable characters, clean romance, and a playful take on Regency-era fiction, A Lady’s Guide to Love and Pirates is well worth adding to your reading list.

I absolutely LOVED this story. I went into it expecting pirate shenanigans galore, and I was not disappointed! Belle is such a likeable character while still retaining her stubbornness, and I loved her loyalty to the crew she had grown up with. Hawke was sarcastic, protective, and overall just a total cutie. I thought their romance was believable, especially because they were on the ship for so long, and I enjoyed watching them go from rivals to reluctant shipmates to more! I honestly wish we had seen even more of their romance develop because it was absolutely DELICIOUS. This whole book made me nostalgic for Pirates of the Caribbean (specifically Curse of the Black Pearl) and was meticulously researched! I appreciated that it was more of a fun swash-buckling story instead of gruesome (as pirate stories can sometimes swing towards), while still remaining true to much of what we know about pirates and how cutthroat they can be! HIGHLY recommend this book if you're looking for a high-seas adventure!

I knew I’d love this book from the title and synopsis alone, but it turned out to be even more than I expected.
I was hooked, wanting to keep reading, and then I was thinking about it when I wasn’t.
From the beginning, I was intrigued and excited at the unique plot of how Lady Annabelle Bradford became Belle, a part-time “buccaneer” sailing the seas. She was all that was proper by Society’s standards, yet stubbornly adventurous and opinionated, longing for the salty air. I absolutely loved her fierceness and loyalty.
It’s the perfect swashbuckling rescue adventure that touched my heart at certain moments (the rocks) and kept me on the edge of my seat in others.
The crew is filled with characters that make up a delightful found family that endeared me immediately, and a dashing hero who brings some clashing opinions and banter that make for fun scenes with Belle as they steadily grow closer.
All the love for Hawke and Belle and this tale of adventure, love, and sacrifice.

4.25⭐️ ARC Review: I’ve wanted a book like Pirates of the Caribbean since I started reading again (which has been years at this point) and I can honestly say this is exactly what I was wanting and expecting. We get the swashbuckling pirate vibes and the regency vibes, and I loved it.
I will say one thing to just get it out of the way. It is a bit slow in the middle up until they get to the island, but I honestly didn’t care that much.
Anywayssssss. What I loved is everything else. lol. I truly enjoyed both main characters and Belle’s pirate sidekicks who adored her. Captain Hawke was broody but caring, and you could tell from the beginning he was absolutely gone for Belle. Belle was genteel yet a force to be reckoned with. They were perfect for each other. I’ve seen some people say they didn’t have any chemistry, and I beg to differ. It wasn’t sizzling but it was gradual then constant and sweet, and sometimes I prefer that. In this case I did for sure.
I enjoyed the plot and the writing. I honestly wouldn’t have changed much if anything. I’ve read Jennifer Moore books since I was 13 and I can say her writing has improved immensely. I didn’t love her oldest works so that made me happy.
That ending also made me so happy, and I’m ecstatic that they both got what they deserved. I seriously couldn’t have asked for a better ending. It just all worked out perfectly.

First off this book is gorgeous 😍 the sprayed edges, the end papers… seriously you had me at pirates. Described as Jane Austen meets Pirates of the Caribbean 🏴☠️ I’ve always had a thing for pirates… I realize in real life pirates weren’t great but give me the a swashbuckling adventure on the high seas with treasure & a romance and I’m here for it. Annabelle Bradford an aristocrat was born on the sea where a legendary pirate became her godfather. She spends most of her time in society but spent her summers sailing the high seas. When her Godfather is taken captive she joins forces with the devilishly handsome Captain Hawkes to undertake a perilous rescue mission. It’s full of swashbuckling adventure, dangerous pirates, found family, a legendary treasure & a swoony romance. Seriously I loved every minute of it and stayed up late to finish. If you are looking for a fun entertaining romance this is it. I also loved the authors note that had me giggling.

A fun and “swashbuckling” adventure on the sea! I absolutely loved how the author breathed new life into the Pirates of the Caribbean type story and combined some historical storylines as well! I loved that it didn’t focus on the atrocities real pirates committed but rather the characters themselves, with themes of redemption and integrity! I had high expectations for a story combining elements from Jane Austen x Pirates of the Caribbean, and this story was exactly what I expected and more! I’m hoping the author writes more of these adventures! I also think this story would be a lovely read for YA/teens that enjoyed Pirates of the Caribbean and are also readers! I received a gifted copy from the author.

This was a fun journey! I enjoyed the references to The Pirates of the Caribbean movies and characters and how Moore made that style her own. She prefaces the book and also finishes in her acknowledgements/notes at the end of the book how she wanted to keep true to the history of pirates but yet make them relatable and nice ha ha Annabelle is a very strong female character, based off of a true story of a pirate who boarded a ship and came across a woman with a new baby and spared them, insisting only that they name her Mary after his mother. Annabelle becomes the summer ward of Captain Reid Courtney after he comes across her on a pirate ship and spares the new mother and her new baby, insisting only that she join him on his pirate ship every summer. During the rest of the year, Annabelle lives with her mother as a lady of London society. Only one summer as she's preparing for the annual masquerade ball as her last event before leaving with Captain Courtney for the summer, several of his crew show up to inform Annabelle that he has been kidnapped by rival pirates to lead them to a cursed island to find the shipwrecked treasure of Spanish silver rumored to be hidden there. What follows is a fun, entertaining journey as Annabelle leads her crewmates to find a captain, one of only two survivors (the other being the kidnapped Captain Courtney) who knows where the cursed island is. We meet the various characters imprisoned with Hawke and Annabelle's crewmates who have helped raise her as they race to rescue Captain Courtney without becoming cursed themselves! There is a clean, fun romance developing between two strong personalities and such a fun cast of pirate characters, as well as Annabelle's lady's maid back in England. I enjoyed both settings, the sea and London, and how Moore blended the two settings and Annabelle's two personalities together. While this is another addition to the adult-aimed Proper Romance Historial line from Shadow Mountain, it's clean enough and reads well enough that an older teen audience would enjoy it as well.

I picked up A Lady's Guide to Love and Pirates because someone said "Jane Austen meets Pirates of the Caribbean"... and honestly, that description is pretty spot on.
This was such a fun, adventurous historical romance that had just the right mix of swashbuckling action, witty banter, and slow burn romance.
Annabelle was such a likeable FMC. I loved that she could move effortlessly between London's high society and life aboard a pirate ship. She's intelligent, determined, and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty when the people she loves are in danger. Watching her throw herself into a rescue mission instead of sitting back and waiting for someone else to save the day made her incredibly easy to root for.
Then there's Captain Hawke... the broody, guarded pirate captain who absolutely does not want to help Annabelle... until he does. 😅 Their relationship starts with plenty of clashing personalities and stubbornness, which made their banter so much fun to read. I loved watching the respect between them slowly grow into something much deeper.
The adventure was definitely one of the highlights for me. Treasure hunters, pirate rivalries, dangerous seas, storms, mysterious islands, prison breaks... it felt like there was always something happening. It had that classic pirate adventure feel that kept the pages turning.
I also appreciated that while the romance is central to the story, it never overshadows the adventure. The relationship develops naturally through everything they face together, making the payoff feel earned rather than rushed.
The only reason this wasn't quite a five star read for me was that I wanted just a little more tension during the final act. Everything wrapped up a touch quicker than I expected after such an exciting build up.
A Lady's Guide to Love and Pirates is a charming, feel good historical romance filled with adventure, pirates, treasure hunts, slow burn chemistry, and lovable characters.
If you've ever wished Pride and Prejudice had more sword fights and pirate ships, this book is absolutely worth picking up.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to convince myself that sailing away with a sarcastic pirate captain is a perfectly reasonable life choice.

This book was amazing! I loved the romantic adventure and the found family dynamic among the crew. It had all the excitement of a pirate adventure journey, but what really made it shine for me was the heart behind it. The father-daughter relationship between Annabelle and Courtney was beautifully satisfying, perfectly capturing the tenderness, loyalty, and love that can exist between a father and daughter. Reminds me a lot of my father's love for me and mine for him, which I feel a lot of books lack a good parent child realtionship, so I admired that this was included.
I also adored how Annabelle embraces both sides of herself. Her love of society with tea parties, dresses, and balls, alongside her passion for the pirate life with adventure, pants, and her chosen family. It made her such a fun, layered character that was so relatable.
Annabelle and Hawke’s slow burn romance was the perfect sugar on top of the story. Enemies to lovers with banter will always do it for me. These two had an exciting adventure and an adorable passion throughout the story. Their relationship added just the right amount of sweetness in this clean romance story. The drama and mystery surrounding Courtney’s disappearance and the rescue kept me hooked the entire time. And honestly, reading this while at sea made it feel even more immersive. Jennifer Moore delivered a story full of heart, romance, adventure, and found family truly unforgettable.

Pirate of the Caribbean meets Jane Austen is the perfect description for this fast paced and exciting story. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was thoroughly convinced I'd love it by time I finished the prologue. It is unique, full of fun and fear, feisty characters, and found family. Even though some of them are actually pirates- the dangerous kind.
Born at sea, Lady Annabelle Bradford's life was spared by a pirate captain with a promise that she would spend time each summer with him. He was a lonely sailor and was immediately smitten with the babe who was only hours old when he came across them.

I like the setting and the supporting characters, especially Courtney’s crew, who were a great addition to the story. I also loved the banter between Bell and Hawk.
Overall, this was such an entertaining read!

Ahh, this was so cute and good! This looked like a lot of fun and I ended up really enjoying it. I hadn’t really read a lot of books that had pirates in them so I was excited to see how this book would end up.

I was fortunate enough to get an advance copy of this book when I attended a multi-author book signing hosted by Shadow Mountain.
Jennifer Moore has done an amazing job of creating a pirate story with love, loyalty, and heart. This story quickly sucked me in and made it hard to put down the book. While I know there were few, if any, honorable pirates, I loved how this band of pirates was portrayed more as a family - where they would do anything to protect each other and would go after their Captain. I also loved that when Belle came into their lives, they adjusted their voyages for the summer and really became the extended family that Belle needed.
I enjoyed the relationship between Hawke and Belle. They start out more as enemies, but with the forced proximity of the ship, they slowly start to become friends - and then of course more. I loved how protective Hawke became and how fiercely loyal Belle was.
There are some great side characters that I quickly became endeared to. I felt that they enhanced the story and brought the element of chosen family to the book.

This was fun, if a little more lighthearted than I was expecting. I guess I wanted a little bit more angst, more grit, if that makes sense. I loved the dichotomy that was Belle -- her wanting to hold onto her life in society while also feeling pulled to the sea. The fact that we got a masquerade ball (one of my FAVORITE things to appear in a book!) definitely contributed to me loving the glimpses of society life that we got.
I wish, in a way, that the romance had felt a little bit more deep. There were a few moments of Belle and Hawke getting closer together, but it didn't feel quite enough for me to really believe that they had fallen in love as quickly as they did. If the book were longer and if there were fewer time jumps that just sort of told us that weeks had passed, that might have helped a little bit.
I will say, though, the found family was so fun! I loved how much Shadbolt and Grieg, in particular, loved Belle, and how that was so reciprocated. And Court... that's HIS daughter, don't let anyone tell you differently!!!!! My cute little pirate family :')
Overall, this was a cute read, but I couldn't help but wishing there was a little more depth to it. There were moments (particularly in the action scenes) that read a little bland to me, as well, in a sort of "telling not showing" manner, but the plot itself wasn't bad. Talented author Jennifer Moore leaves her usual Regency world behind to deliver a charming pirate tale. Although William III is briefly mentioned as the ruling monarch (when Annabelle is a child?), I assume "A Lady's Guide to Love and Pirates" takes place during George I's reign. This book is apparently inspired by "Pirates of the Caribbean" (I actually haven't seen it), yet it is told in Moore's enjoyable prose.
A considerable suspension of disbelief is required to fully appreciate this novel. Borrowing initially from the unique story of Ocean Born Mary, it quickly becomes quite implausible. Reid Courtney is a singular pirate, yet we see too little of him. Captain Hawke, on the other hand, is a complex character whose gruff demeanor hides a surprisingly tender side. However, Lady Annabelle Bradford left me less than impressed. The reader is not privy to her activities during her yearly sea voyages, so what did she do? It is more than a little curious that she evidently acquires very few survival skills, especially after all those years. However, she manages to acquit herself when it counts, so there's that. Secondary characters are interesting. Fantastical elements such as sea monsters and the Devil's (Bermuda) Triangle will appeal to plenty of readers. The author's considerable knowledge of all things nautical is on full display. I loved the ending and yes, things like that really happened.

Pirates and romance?! SAY NO MORE! I was so excited when I saw this book coming down the pipe line and oh my… it is AWESOME!
Belle has an interesting life. She is a noblewoman by birth and enjoys the privileges of the upper class, going to balls and wearing beautiful gowns. But she also happens to rub shoulders with a crew of pirates! Spending time with them each summer since she was a child. I really loved how this played into the plot! Hawke comes from a completely different class and seems to be either in trouble or on death’s door at any given moment. These two are complete opposites but they match perfectly! I loved seeing how brave Belle was and how she could be her complete self around Hawke. It took a while for the trust to get there but it was unbreakable when it came. I really loved their journey together. And of course the whole amazing cast of characters! So many people that you’re going to absolutely fall in love with.
This is such a fun, brand new take on a romance and it worked incredibly well. We have peril and adventure, excitement and danger, love and family. Everything blended so well that made this book so enjoyable! I love anything Jennifer Moore puts out and this one is something I will 100% recommend.

I love books that take you on a journey into the unknown, full of adventure, danger, action, and of course… romance!
I enjoyed this story, which—as I understand it—is set in the early 1700s. It has a fast-paced rhythm that kept me hooked; the mission is established right from the start, and there’s action throughout most of the book; I could feel as if I were on a pirate ship facing a storm and giant sea creatures 🐙
I liked that this journey was an opportunity for Annabelle to discover herself—allowing her to be brave, strong, and decide which path to take in her future, torn between the sea and the English nobility.
As for Annabelle's relationship with Hawke, it was romantic, but I would have liked to see it developed a little more.
There's certainly mutual attraction and admiration, as well as a protective instinct on his part, but the love felt a little sudden to me.
This is the only point that makes me lower my rating a bit, but I still enjoyed their story, and the ending was SO sweet that it left me with a big smile 💙
Obviously, if you like Pirates of the Caribbean, this book is for you! It’s entertaining and will make for a good read.

Words cannot describe how I feel about this amazing book A Lady's Guide to Love and Pirates! If you are someone who adores the Regency era and the intriguing stories of Pirates roaming the seas then I would highly recommend checking out this story! I will say I was quite impressed with the elegance, adventure, and intrigue that this book managed to weave in! Everything that I could ever want in a historical fiction novel and that it telling a lot! The characters were absolutely wonderful and in the end I found myself begging for more.
Our story begins with the Captain Reid Courtney who while ransacking a ship meets a well to do woman with a baby girl. This captain is immediately taken with the baby and becomes the child's unofficial godfather and sees her often through the years. Many years later the child has grown into a lovely young woman named Annabelle. In that time she has remained devoted to her pirate godfather.
However, when her godfather is taken captive due to a rivalry over a treasure hunt she will do anything to save him. Even if it means having to team up with someone she does not like under the name of Captain Hawke. But in order to save her godfather all petty complaints must be put aside. Could this possibly be the adventure of a lifetime?

What a fantastic adventure! These characters are so loveable. Captain Reid Courtney was planning on pillaging and sinking a ship until he met a woman who had just given birth to, Lady Anabelle Bradford. The baby grabbed a hold of his heart and never gave it back. He made a deal with the woman to leave the ship alone if she agreed to let her daughter spend the summers on his ship. The crew of Calypso's Quest fell in love with her just as their Captain had.
When some of the crew come to Anabelle with news of a much feared pirate kidnapping her beloved Godfather, Captain Courtney, she vows to do whatever it takes to bring him back.
Hawke was falsely imprisoned after his crew mutinied. He is one of two survivors that know where a long lost treasure is hidden. The other is Captain Courtney. When Anabelle and some of the crew of Calypso's Quest free him from prison he is coerced into helping them find Captain Courtney.
Danger, adventure, battles and falling in love have never been so much fun. I absolutely loved this book.

Hawke was falsely imprisoned after his crew mutinied. He is one of two survivors that know where a long lost treasure is hidden. The other is Captain Courtney. When Anabelle and some of the crew of Calypso's Quest free him from prison he is coerced into helping them find Captain Courtney.
Danger, adventure, battles and falling in love have never been so much fun. I absolutely loved this book.

I have loved everything I’ve ever read by Jennifer Moore, and this book was no exception. From the very first chapter of A Lady's Guide to Love and Pirates, I was swept away by the effortless writing and intrigued by the imaginative plot.
I loved Annabelle—a character who navigates London society with ease and spends the summers onboard a pirate ship. And when her godfather Captain Courtney is kidnapped, she devises a way to rescue him, with the help of Hawke. Even though Annabelle and Hawke initially clash over leadership, I enjoyed watching their relationship grow by learning to trust each other. I found myself rooting for the characters every step of the way, and I loved how loyal the crew was to each other.
Jennifer Moore has such a gift for blending historical detail with heart, and this story delivered everything I hoped for—high-seas adventure, a slow-burn romance and just the right amount of danger. If you enjoy clean historical romance and a plot that keeps you turning pages, this one is a must-read. It was the perfect escape, and it's easily one of my favorite reads of the year.

A Lady’s Guide to Love and Pirates is one of those books that once I started it, I had to bump almost everything from the top of my to do list down one, because reading this book became the priority. Then when I finished it, I had to immediately call my sister and recommend it to her. That gives you a picture of how much I enjoyed this book! It’s got adventure, pirates, and treasure, along with a sweet love story. Moore did a fantastic job trying to keep the book as historical as possible with the pirates and their hard life, without making the book too graphic or depressing. Adding the romance was perfect and believable with the slow blooming relationship. I loved how she tied everything together in the end!
Contents: clean, no profanity, kisses only. Moore proves you can have a clean, enjoyable book full of adventure and romance. The world needs more books like this!

What a fun read! I didn't want to put it down and read way too late in the night! Who doesn't love a good Pirate story, with sword play, a budding romance and a headstrong Heroine?

I really enjoyed this no spice historical romance with pirates and a young lady. Such an interesting set up - even more so that it is inspired by real historical events. I spent the entire book being reminded of the Pirates of the Caribbean with scenes, banter, and song. I’ve spent time in the Dominican Republic, so seeing it mentioned was a great piece for me.
This book did start slow for me. The second half, however, picked up speed and just got better and better! Of course, with pirates, you’ll come across unsavory characters and behavior, but the heroes in this story are portrayed honorably and with tender hearts. I enjoyed this read, it was great to escape on the seas with pirates, forced proximity, enemies to sweethearts, and danger all around. The romance is just kisses, intimacy level 1.5.

A fast paced pirate lovestory that kept me hooked from beginning to end. The plot was well-paced, original and captivating from start to finish. The writing was just great, and there’s great world building. This story was super easy to read, had many twists and turns and was full of action. The characters were charming and witty, lovable and at times adorable and funny. I loved the main characters Belle and Hawk, and secondary characters like Grieg and Shadbolt, Court and let’s not forget about Mr. Fox! And I loved lord Rushford. Belle and Hawk falling in love felt real and even inevitable and the ending is just perfect. The kraken was a bit too unrealistic for me but that’s the only thing I can come up with that wasn’t just perfect.
Absolutely worth reading. I highly recommend this fun and captivating read!

Oh my WOW! I think I might be obsessed with this book. The second I saw Pirates and Historical romance I knew I had to get my hands on a copy, and let me tell you I absolutely need more novels like this.
Not only do you get pirates and the adventure and danger that comes along with that, but you get this amazing family and friendship weaved throughout. The built trust and love among the crew added so beautifully to the story.
Lady Annabelle and Captain Hawke had the best banter and snark and I just adored them together. I legit couldn’t put this book down and devoured it in a couple days. I just had to know what would happen next.

Pirates are very much in my wheelhouse – and I enjoyed this, but I feel that something in the story telling was lacking. Whilst the romance was slow burn, I also felt like I wanted more and to really feel how the MCs were falling for each other.

This book has it all! There's action, adventure, love, treasure, danger, and a damsel in distress. I wish I could read it again for the first time.
I love that Annabelle is not only a lady, but she spends part of her year on a pirate ship, the beloved goddaughter of a fierce pirate. It was fun to read about how all of the pirates doted on her. That definitely seemed out of character for pirates. Annabelle is a fierce young lady. I love the way she works hard to get what she wants.
Captain Hawke is the target of Lady Annabelle's determination for a lot of the book. She works hard to get him to be the captain of the ship going to find her godfather when he's been kidnapped. She pushes him to be a better man, just like he pushes her to learn to defend herself. These two just work!
