‘The Devil’s Snare’ by Michael Donovan, #2 in the Eddie Flynn mystery series, was a thriller! I liked it much better than the first novel, Behind Closed Doors (Eddie Flynn, #1) by Michael Donovan . I couldn’t put it down in reading the last ten chapters! The series is free if you have a KindleUnlimited subscription.

Eddie Flynn is an old-style private detective, not American dark, not cozy light. He has a partner, Sean Shaughnessy. Both are ex-police. Sean was in special forces. They have an office in a rundown building. They can afford a secretary, Lucy, but they can’t pay her much, or themselves for the matter. None of them take their clients or themselves too seriously. They know everyone is lying to them…

Stuart and Elaine Barber have written another book and are on tour to sell the memoir. They’ve been getting a lot of hate mail because they are the main suspects in the disappearance of Christa, their daughter, two years old at the time. Protestors are showing up at their bookstore appearances. The police and most of the public believe the Barbers killed their little girl. The Barbers insist they are the victims of a child-abduction crime. Now, it is two years after Christa was abducted, and they want whoever is threatening to kill them caught, and if possible, could the agency look for their daughter? The Barbers need personal bodyguard protection, and they want their daughter found!

Holy tricky trails, but this novel has twists and turns! Very plausible and entertaining, if not entirely possible. Still, I had a lot of fun reading this terrific beach read!

Very good with lots of twists and turns. Is Eddie by any chance a distant cousin of Steve Cavanaugh's Eddie Flynn?

Mike Hammer without the violence

Eddie Glynn reminds me of Mike Hammer the wisecracking private eye in the Mickey Spillane books I devoured as a teenager in the 1960's, but without the gun and the violence. What can I say? Michael Donovan has created a first class hero and given him an intriguing storyline to match, Any flaws in the plot which I thought I had found were resolved in the denoument. A thoroughly enjoyable book

Reminds me if Gone Baby Gone

But not as twisted or with as much pathos. But those characters are so well fleshed out. I'm still seeing the characters in this series as 2D. However, the story line is intriguing and as the series goes on, I'm sure the characters will resonate with me more. I truly enjoyed the book.

3 stars

I gave this book 3 stars because I felt the beginning of the story was a bit long winded and I found myself wavering a bit. It took a while for me to become gripped by the story. The best but turned out to be the last 1\3 of the book. I liked the ending it was a suprise. I'm still a fan so I will be downloading the next book by M Donovan

An interesting premise.
Kidnapped child? Or killer parents?
Some.nice twists and turns along the way.

The style feels a little forced but moved along at abetter pace than the first book.

An easy read.

A very clever story for the second outing of this likeable Private Detective firm. Like the first novel the plot is fast paced and a real page turner. Immediately bought the next book in the series.
