Kia is the author of quirky, creepy, and queer fantasy books. Before turning to fiction, they built spaceships to send people to the Moon. When not roller skating or walking their dog, they can be found with a cup of tea working on any of their dozens of in-progress stories.
This book was even better than the first. I loved the expanded sense of adventure, especially the traveling aspect. Being in the sky, encountering new nations, figuring out how to trade with them, and learning about precious resources and useful magic spells made the story feel more fun, exciting, and immersive.
The massive plot twist involving the gods completely hooked me. I genuinely could not put this book down. I also really appreciated how we learned more theories about how the main character ended up in this world.
There was some progression in the main character’s relationship and romance, but it was handled perfectly. It wasn’t overbearing or cringe at all, just a natural, supportive friendship with a few intimate moments that never crossed into uncomfortable territory.
One thing I didn’t enjoy was when the main character had moral dilemmas and conflicting opinions based on the values of the world she originally came from. At times, it felt hypocritical for her to judge this new society or apply old cultural values to a completely different world with its own norms. While the story did address this fairly quickly and resolve it fast, I honestly would have preferred it not be included at all.
I cannot wait for the next book… but making me wait until 2027 feels absolutely unacceptable 😭
I think i loved this just as much, if not more than the first! This is stunningly cozy with moments of high action, with some of the cutest romance I've seen in a LitRPG. everything feels so natural between Fyre and Mir, and i loved to see Ollie exploring more with kids his own age even though he's a dragon. the exploration and expansion of the world I've come to love was amazing, and getting some of the answers I've been desperately waiting for was even better! I've read three books now in this world and I'm chomping for more! the Fyre Saga is so brilliantly charming and cozy that you just want to curl up with a cup of coffee and giggle at all the sweet and romantic bits. This is a book like no other, and a series you just can't put down!
Just as full of character as always, Fyre Fly is a shift in tone and scope alike as Fyre's story moves into the skies and everything escalates... in a much friendlier direction than I had anticipated!
Just as charming, just as heartwarming, and just as wonderful a read as the first one.
