This book is basically an argument against school choice because it’s actually an expansion of government education (a.k.a public school) into private and homeschooling education. It frames school choice in a way that I now better understand the concept, political jargon, and outcomes of implementation.

However, the most eye-opening information in this book is the history lesson on our modern education system. Wow! It completely explains the “why” behind most of my questions about the crazy in our country right now and how everything is such a battle. Even if you don’t care about school choice, I highly recommend this book purely for this aspect alone.

Fantastic read! American parents, and especially Christian parents, need to read this book! It gives both critical warnings AND inspiring solutions:

Critical: You'll get an overview of the people and ideologies that created modern public schooling in America.
Inspirational: You'll get acquainted with the history of the homeschool movement and what has made it so successful.
Critical: You'll understand why government-funded schooling has brought us to a point of crisis in the US--and why government-funded solutions will not solve the problem.
Inspirational: You'll learn key principles and read about real-world solutions that can help build an environment in which education is truly independent and free to flourish.

Church leaders and educators ought to read this, too.

Get informed. Get inspired. Reclaim education independence. For our children and our grandchildren.

Edited to add: The Silent War (appendix A), an essay by another individual other than the two authors of the book, contains a lot of helpful information, but it really needed an editor at times. And it made me wish for a bit more documentation of the claims made. Lots of solid information, but a little that leaves me asking more questions before I believe every claim that "x indicates y". It could be *really* good with further editing.
