From a short-order cook to a spell-slinging wizard (who’s still a cook).
It’s only my first day as a professional dungeon diver after quitting my old job, and I’m already off to a rough start. My assigned classes are nothing like I’d hoped, and I’ve been sent to face monsters with little more than an empty spellbook and a seemingly indestructible frying pan.
But it’s not all bad. There’s a gorgeous swashbuckling catgirl and a stunning gun-crazy half-elf who both have my back. We’re going to need to work together more than ever now that all the dungeon exits have been closed off, trapping us underground with hordes of vicious creatures.
Which means it’s time to burst out the cooking spray and go to work.
While I finished this book, it was mediocre at best. There was way too much of "Let's make the MC advance faster" to make it fun.
The MC starts off as a short order cook with dreams of owning his own restaurant some day. To do that, he quits and becomes a dungeon diver. He goes and gets his class, which is a dual classed Cook/Wizard. He's not a happy camper, but don't you worry! The authors will spoon feed him awesome! So he enters the dungeon, kills a few goblins and levels up to level 2, then is rescued from a tough mob by a level 11 swashbuckler/rogue catgirl with a pirate fetish. She immediately starts to flirt with the MC, making it obvious she likes him. They fight a few more mobs (no contest because of her level) before heading to the safe house, where she promptly jumps his bones. He's put in pretty much no effort so far.
Then the second day, they meet another adventurer, this time a level 18 gunner class. After a few kills, he gets a reward item that is "The Headband of Being Power Leveled Quickly!!!!" He gains 7x experience when grouped with at least 2 others and he's the lowest level person. He's level 3 at that time, and the next lowest is now level 12. Needless to say, before the day is done, he's level 9. It goes downhill from there.
There is some interesting concepts in this book, which save it from being so unintentionally farcical it would get 1 star. But with the authors babysitting him with items and powerful companions, it's like being proud to be power leveled by high level toons in a MMO and then calling yourself a badass. It just isn't interesting.
It was fine. There were some interesting parts, especially around the world building, and the action was decent. But the party is a bunch of beautiful dumbasses and it's all thinly veiled reasons for them to have sex. Which is fine, but a whole book of it was too much for me. It's also shaping up to be a real breakneck pace which is one of my major gripes with litRPG. Probably won't read the sequel.
17%: It was going okay, but then Cara turned up and she's a certified dumbass. Now I'm struggling with all her chatter.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It's one of the best things I've read this year. It was fun and engaging. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and entertaining. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book is definitely worth checking out.
