For a moment, Jamie held the world, even though it wasn’t his to hold…
Jamie has spent his entire life playing the good twin. Now, he’s the one standing out after signing with Guillotine Records. Two years of being on his own in California hasn’t lessened his desire for the man who made it happen. Too bad that man belongs to one of Jamie’s oldest friends.
Fate is about to hand him an unexpected chance.
After losing everything, Hawke needs a break from reality. Too many lies and heartaches have left him with nothing except nightmares he can’t escape. Seeing Jamie again reminds him of a different time—one where Jamie made him feel a spark of something pure.
Can Jamie undo the years of damage caused by his so-called friend?
In the face of everything Maddox has done to Hawke, Jamie can’t let this chance pass him by. No friendship in the world is strong enough to overlook the pain Maddox has caused. Jamie can’t think of a thing he’d rather do than pick up the pieces of Hawke’s life, but will Hawke let him?
Sometimes the most beautiful relationships spring from the most broken places.

Well having read the last one, I have to ask, why did I bother?. Hawke and Maddox's intense and powerful love story is ret-conned and destroyed and the character of Maddox is entirely trashed despite the whole previous book (and part of Bk 1) showing us from his own POV how much he worshipped Hawke. Book 2 invested me at least in Maddox and Hawke and in Maddox/Hawke's HEA to the extent that I pre-ordered this one. Bad mistake. This book negated all of Book 2's beautiful edgy love story in favour of the authors' Perfect! character Jamie (who began an infatuation with Hawke in the last book) - and I resented every page. My state of mind throughout was - WTF?
For me Maddox and Hawke worked because Maddox had an edge of complexity and interest and he genuinely needed and worshipped Hawke. Plus there was Addie. Jamie and Hawke is pure 'Gary Stu, the rich, beautiful, noble, uber talented, saintly international rock star, gets the prize' - even Hawke's homophobic parents magically worship Jamie and hate Maddox for being polite and not standing up to them (??). In fact everyone now hates Maddox, the guy everyone loved at the end of the last book. The guy who didnt want fame and fortune because it would take him away from Addie and Hawke. Right. His lovely HEA is now smashed to smithereens and his new fate is to be The Character Who Deserves Only Bad Things to ensure maximum sympathy for the new couple.
I guess the last few pages of Book 2 suggested what was coming but they were so utterly WTF given what came before I didn't believe this book could possibly go this way given it negated everything important I'd just read. I should have known better. It seems to me now though that the author tacked those pages on, threaded in the odd thing about Jamie's sudden obsession with Hawke. But she didn't bother going back to rewrite that book to change Maddox so he fits with the character in Book 3 - an unfeeling dick who lied to and used Hawke all along, took him for everything he had ( even his flat and furniture!?) and removed Addie from his life, without regret or shame. Book 2 Maddox was three dimensional, insecure, complex, a responsible father and at the end, very happy and secure with his own little family and totally in love. All Book 3 Maddox lacks is a pantomime moustache.
So the question Im left with after reading this is - what was the point of Book 2 exactly? At the end of Book 1 Maddox seemed a mess, in love with Hawke but unable to show it. Then came Book 2 to explain what was going on with him - we were shown inside the head of Maddox- a basically good guy who realises when he loses him that he can't breathe without the love of his life, Hawke; who tells him and us through his POV very convincingly that his life will be over if he loses him. He means it. Then comes Book 3, and we're told that off screen he was cheating on him all along, and left him for Joss, a character he'd known and taken for granted since he was 15 (and heavily featured in Book 2). Maddox never thought about wanting someone other than Hawke, least of all Joss, all through his Book 2 POV. Even in Book 1- all he focussed on was Hawke. Just Hawke. So how does that work?
No attempt is made in this book to explain what we're told Maddox did. Are we supposed to write off Book 2 off as a waste of pages? And dollars? Forget everything Maddox thought and said and was? Pretend we didn't notice the love story? The single scene Maddox is allowed in Book 3 is purely to make him look appalling and underline how perfect Jamie is by comparison, but he's never allowed to explain a thing. Mainly I suspect because the author couldn't think of an explanation that fit with the Maddox whose POV we saw in Book 2 and even Book 1. It might even, if you squinted hard, have worked if Hawke had left Maddox because he discovered compulsive cheating despite Maddox's love for him (still wouldn't fit with Bk 2 at all, but at least its an attempt at marrying the two). But no - Maddox had to be the bad guy in every single way and Hawke couldn't leave a child behind because that might not be perfect... so the scenario is, Maddox whose greatest fear is losing Hawke because it will destroy him, casually dumps Hawke for Joss, the old friend and bandmate he's known and not been in love with since he was 15.
In Book 3 he's been living with Joss for almost a year after cheating with him for that long (so he must want him much more than Hawke), but is still texting Hawke obsessively and claims to view them as belonging together - the latter I assume just to provide a tiny teeny ineffectual grasp at character continuity even if it can't be explained and is just another WTF?. It also serves to prove Maddox is a compulsive liar and slimeball, since he is, as is pointed out several times, still with Joss, who is thus, handily now, also A Maddox Victim, not just a manipulating tosser. Oh and it creates a short moment of unnecessary worry for Jamie which is the only point of conflict in the book. When this author falls out of love with one character and into love with another, she doesn't mess about.
Maddox, the hero of book 2 who lived for Hawke and his kid never existed. Thrown to the character wolves.
To be honest, this may not be very fair, but I don't read romance series to watch the relationships and characters I invested in to a HEA, being slaughtered and cannibalised to feed the next book in the line. I enjoyed Book 2, but I now regret reading it, given whats been done to Hawke/Maddox -and I seriously regret paying money for this one.
On an editing note, there were a few occasions where the wrong character names were used - Jamie where Hawke was obviously meant and vice versa etc. Not enough to pull you out completely but it popped up more than a couple of times.

Oh well. There goes one of my recent fave MM couples.
:-(
So yeah. I read the first book in the series free and for me it was well enough written but a bit predictable, a bit bland, no genuine conflict, two dull, flaw-free characters. Boring for me. But then at the end, suddenly there was Hawke and Maddox and the whole thing lifted up 5 gears. Colour me startled.
I bought the next book and I didn't regret it. It was a great read... Hawke growing a backbone, Maddox actually having to work to get him back, their battle to trust one another, the intensity of their mutual love... it was really well done and page turning. Some thought had gone into it; it wasn't romance by numbers. Okay one side of the pairing was 'Mr Flawless and hard done to' which is usually a bit dull, but he was the perfect foil for 'scared but so in love bad boy' Maddox. I even forgave the introduction of Cute Kid, because the end .... their hea was epic. Have I expressed how much I loved Hawke and Maddox yet??
So... I read the blurb for Heart's Strum and the last page of the second book and I thought, okay more angst to come, Jamie will have to grow up and get over Hawke and find someone else, Maddox may have got something wrong, but thats okay. I thought. Theres just no WAY the writer can believably break up Maddox and Hawke for good after THAT book. And I was right. Heart's Strum didn't believably break them up for good. It just.. broke them up for good. No effort at believability was involved. .
I don't get upset by stuff like this but Im ...yes, Im pissed! Maddox has been taken over by bodysnatchers or maybe I imagined his book.
I should add that theres zero romantic tension in this book by the way, everyone is so pigeonholed into Good (everyone else) and Bad (Maddox) that theres no pretence after the first few pages that Hawke won't end up with Mr Flawless. I waited for it, but it never turned up.
I'm kind of broken hearted for my babies. RIP Conquered-by-Love Maddox and Interesting, Complex Hawke. I wish I knew who wrote the brilliant, bumpy, up and down and up again, Maddox and Hawke love story. Bring her back, give her cookies and send the OTT Harlequin writer to her room.
Beware-spoilers in this review. I will be honest, I had a hard time getting into this book because of the coupling in the last book. Hawke and Maddox were good together, but no, the author decides that Jamie is Hawke’s happily ever after. This books focuses on the two dancing around one another as Jamie finds out Hawke is single and pounces on his opportunity, talking Hawke into going on tour with him so they can have time to work on their relationship and see if it goes anywhere. So, two months later they get married! That’s fast, considering he was in a very serious relationship for almost two years only 8 months prior! Hard for me to get on board. Though the two did grow on me later, the author had a hard time getting me on board with these two, especially when we find out in the next book that Maddox DIDN’T CHEAT!! So all their family just decided for Hawke and Maddox and Jamie and played games with their lives to decide who should and shouldn’t be together?? WTH???
And also, Hawke’s sister Sophie-I don’t LIKE that girl! She’s manipulative and a liar! We sort of get hints that Joss really cares for Sophie and maybe even loves her. He goes on about her being his addiction. Don’t fall for it! They are storyline red hearrings. Give me a break! I went ahead and continued with the series because some reviews hinting that the author redeems the storyline in the last book. Personally I don’t agree. This series made me mad!!!
Let me preface this by saying I have LOVED every single Charity Parkerson book I've read AND that you should really read this series (Ugly Eternity) in order as this is book 3.
NOW, let me say that I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad. There was so much invested in Maddox and Hawke that I was sure I would get to read their Happily Ever After, but it's not a must, the HEA at least, which is a good thing since that's not really what we're getting!
Jamie has stood in the wings long enough and dammit, it's time for him to have a say!
It's hard to review this without leaving tons of spoilers, so let's just say that Jamie is finally going to man up and take life by the balls. He's found out there was trouble in the HEA with Maddox and Hawke so he's taken his long time crush off the shelf and he's gonna handle it the way it shoulda been handled all along. He's taking Hawke and leaving nothing to fate.
What a fabulous story and even though I thought Hawke and Maddox were gonna be the bomb, I've gotta hand it to the writer...Charity Parkerson knows characters and great stories like nobodies business.
DNF simply because The idea of switching the couple between Hawke x Maddox to Hawke x Jamie really saddened me. I loved the way the second book ended and I had invested my feeling for Hawke x Maddox pairing. I couldn't possibly understand the change in Maddox in this book because it was unreal. The next book would be Maddox x Joss which showed that Maddox would eventually not being an asshole so I couldn't understand the Maddox in this very book. If the author had changed him into the villain and let him stayed that way, I could possibly eventually accepting this... but since Maddox was never a truly a bad person, this book did not make any senses to me except author trying to be different and failed.
This book was not reviewed or evaluated by the skills of writing in anyway. It simply was not the enjoyable or comfortable read for me. If I hadn't read the second book, I would have probably enjoy this one. Unfortunately NOT! Too bad I won't be continued in the next few books. I would still go and enjoy other series but perhaps this time, I should read the review for further warning. this switching personalities was never good for any reader's piece of minds.
Okay, is it petty to base a review on the misspelling of GRETNA GREEN (it's GRETNA Green, damn it, not GRETA Green). Aarrgghh ........ However, all the misspellings, rambling sentences and incomplete phrases throughout this whole series really got to me by the end of Book Three. I'm still confused by Hawke's statement that the little girl "Slept with her foot." - huh?
I really liked the plot of this book (if you totally forgot everything that happened in Book #2) and how Jaime's character was more fully developed in the relationship with Hawke. But, for me, the execution of the plot was just too poorly-written and rambling.
I do love this series and the characters in it. Hawke has been a favorite of mine since he first came on scene. There is so much packed into this story, that it's very hard to write a review that isn't full of spoilers. I will say that it made me laugh, made me cry, and made me very mad... sometimes all at once! With all the lies, betrayals, misunderstandings, and miles between and around them will Hawke and Jamie even have a chance for a true Happy Ever After? You'll have to read the book to find out!
I was totally wrong on Maddox lost all respect on him after this one. Guess he couldn't change his old ways. I'm really happy how this turned out though at first I was really turned off but as you read the story and depth it all fell into place. Well done I wonder how further books will progress. Would have rated a 5 but too many typos especially towards the end.
I'm really glad I waited for Heart's Strum to be released before reading Heart's Song, it meant that I knew going in not to get attached to Maddox and Hawke as a couple.
I did really love Jamie and the way he treated Hawke was sweet, there were no mind games with him which was refreshing after the Maddox merry-go-round.
I've never read a series like this one, books two and three both having Hawke as a main character but with a different love interest could have been very off putting if I hadn't known what was coming. I am very intrigued to see where the series will go from here with both Joss and Maddox messing up so badly that they have bordered on being unlikable, it will be interesting to see how they can possibly be redeemed..
I'm not sure what to say about this book. I'm really mad about what the author did with Maddox. I loved him in book 2. I don't think the switch in personality is believable in book 3. There's no way Maddox would have cheated on Hawke mostly because of Addie. Nope not buying it. I wanted Maddox and Hawke together.
Having said that, I can't help but feel bad for Jamie. I really liked him in book 2. However, he should have had his HEA with someone other than Hawke. He should have met someone that would make him forget Hawke because Hawke was taken. BY MADDOX. But I liked their love for each other. That's the only reason I didn't give it 1 star.
Ok, so I just pretended that this one and Heart's Songwere different story lines - kind of like an alternate reality... perhaps the author should have thrown in a couple more gay men to choose from instead of having a limited pool of candidates to make this book about.
And I believe the love interest in book 2 - turned villain in book 3 - is supposed to turn back into a love interest in #4 (which is also supposed to be M/M/F) ??!! Sorry Ms. Parkerson, I think I will pass, my alternate universe can only stretch so far!
I am not sure that this book was all that believable! A set of twins are in love with the same man and despite their shared knowledge of that love, one brother decides to steal the man from his other brother. Then things get a bit mixed up (in my opinion) with the first brother throwing over the first lover and taking a new lover who is a pretty cruel guy. Things just get more convoluted from there and that's pretty much the spot where I lost my ability to believe in the story. However, the three lovers were pretty romantic and I did enjoy them.
So not what I was expecting. I am so happy though, that Hawke and Jamie found their way to each other. The way it was meant to be. I was surprised by what happened with Maddox, and my heart broke for Hawke. I also wanted to drop kick Joss until the end of the book, and now I'm happy he is getting his story. Hawke and Jamie are soul mates...and it was worth the journey to get them there.
I haven't read all the books in this series. I read one, and enjoyed it a lot, HAD NO INTEREST in 2, and was glad b/c 3 is the fucking best. Hawke's in it and that's just awesome. I loved the story and the travels, and the romance. Jamie is just sassy, and beautiful and vulnerable and I loved the pining between the two even though I kind of wanted to smack Hawke upside the head some times. Maddox, of course, is an asshole.
I'm not sure where I sit with this book. Maddox changed that much??? And I knew Joss was up to something and there is sure to be more. Jamie well he got what he wanted and Hawke seems happy. But this book seems so far from book 2 its like a parallel universe exists. Now I need to know what the whole story is.
I don't know why Maddox was such an idiot but yay for Jamie...I loved seeing Hawke so happy. It is completely infectious. Jamie is amazing and his love and loyalty to Hawke is deep and pure. They are amazing together! I am only sorry that he had to loose Addison in all that went down. Ok now I am off to read book 4 and hope Joss gets his happily ever after...
I loved Hawke and Jessie so much. I am dying for the next in this series, Joss's story. And as far as Maddox goes he needs some serious redeeming. I can't wait! No really, waiting is awful.
What a twist, this book I wouldn't have imagined would turn out the way it did, what a great twist. Loved it. And I always liked Jamie more than Maddox, I'm glad it happened that way. Now to wait for the next book.
You've got to be fucking kidding me with this shit! Hawke and Maddux's hard-won HEA in book 2 was a fucking fluke and CP destroys it here?!?! I'm not down with that. No fucking way. Don't waste my time or dollars.
GOOD READ! I enjoyed this book. I love the characters and story line, it's so much real. Can't wait to read the next book. I gave it five stars, it was worth it. I'd recommend the all five books to my fellow readers, you will not regret it.
What a beautiful quick love story, it certainly jumped right in there following on from the previous book.. A bit of a shock, I was wondering how she was going to wrangle Hawke being single....
This book was fantastic. Jamie and Hawke were smoking hot together. From the moment they meet in the airport, Jamie and Hawke are on a rollercoaster of emotions leading to a spectacular finish.
OMG! This was a fantastic story that blew my mind. So well-written and captivating that I didn't want to put it down. An emotional roller coaster ride!
