Twisted Fates
Some bonds are forged by fate. Others are forged in fire.
The first young Fae vanished without a trace.
No blood.
No body.
Just silence.
Then another disappeared. And another.
Something is hunting us.
As heir to the Light Fae throne, I was raised to smile, to obey, to rule with grace.
But grace won’t save us now—and neither will my crown.
Then he came—Laucian, the dragon king, with stormfire in his eyes and a matching mark scorched into his skin. Our bond was written in fate, but to my parents, love is weakness. To them, connection is rebellion.
With my siblings at my side, we chase a truth buried in shadow.
But every step draws us deeper into a web of ancient magic, dark secrets, and bloodshed that was never meant to be disturbed.
Now I must
Betray my heart—or abandon my kingdom.
Because one will break me.
The other might break the world.

I am an arc reader for this book and I have to say I truly do love it! The author put so much thought into character building you truly feel like you know who the MFC is and how much she was sheltered you get to watch her grow into a strong woman. It is also nice to see the bond she has with her two siblings isabeau (isa) and Lux. Lux obviously younger brother ego lol kept it funny. Isa def gives off older sister vibes but was given middle sister responsibilities her sense of calmness and mystery kept me intrigued with her!! And let’s not forget about our fated mate Laucian!!! Love how they came to meet and I love how, even though fated, it wasn’t love at first site alavara took her time to know who he is and made sure that relationship was something she truly wanted very refreshing! All around this book is a good read from character building to world building I loved everything about it and before I forget it is a slow burn don’t want anyone coming after me for not mentioning it 😂

This book was such an awesome read, I felt like I was in such a fairytale fantasy world. Such strong characters and easily likable. Alvara is such a strong fmc, and I can’t wait for her character arc throughout the series. Laucian king of dragons is such a lovable mmc, he is very overprotective of the fmc. A bunch of plot twists in this book which I love and even very unexpected ones. Check yes for tension definitely. If you are a romantasy fan I think this is definitely a great book for you. Writing was beautiful and definitely one of a kind in my opinion.

I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I love Alevera and her strength to overcome those who have underestimated her and concealed her true identity from her. I need to see how Laucian gets her back and the fury that will rain upon those who have done the unthinkable. Definitely a great read for fantasy.

There’s something about a fantasy world that feels just slightly off-balance where magic hums in the air and danger hides behind beauty that always pulls me in. Twisted Fates gave me exactly that feeling.
The story follows a young fae woman whose kingdom is crumbling from within. Fae are disappearing without a trace no blood, no bodies, no clues and no one seems willing to tell the truth. When she crosses paths with the Dragon King, everything she thought she knew about loyalty, fate, and love starts to unravel.
This isn’t just another romantasy. It’s a story about power, choice, and the price of destiny. The world-building is layered and intriguing, with enough mystery to keep you guessing and enough emotion to make you care. I really liked that the romance grows slowly it’s more about tension, trust, and vulnerability than instant attraction. You can feel their connection before anything even happens.
Vibe check: magical, dangerous, emotional. The atmosphere feels like storm clouds and candlelight a little dark, a little hopeful, always alive. I don’t have a dog, but I definitely grabbed my cat.
What stayed with me most is how the author explores fate versus free will. Do we really choose who we love, or are we just living out a story already written? That question sits quietly in the background until it suddenly hits you hard near the end.
If you like books that mix fantasy politics, a hint of mystery, and a romance that smolders instead of explodes, Twisted Fates is worth picking up. It’s emotional without being over-the-top, romantic without losing its edge, and leaves you curious for what’s next in the series.

⚘️Book Review⚘️
I enjoyed this book from the very first chapter! I loved the descriptions of the world, learning about the fae both light and dark and many other magical creatures, about the powers, loved reading about the dragon shifters. I loved Alavara(MFC) as she had such character growth in the story from being very sheltered to growing more confident in her self and her abilities, I loved her banter with Laucian(MMC) as they navigate their relationship they have and I enjoyed reading about Alavara's relationships with her sister Isa and her brother Lux and her interactions with her parents, I loved Alavara's fierce dire wolf Titanis, how he's an adorable companion and a loyal protector to her! I also enjoy Disney and Pixar movies and this book made me think of so many different ones in my head while reading namely: Encanto, Brave, Frozen, Tangled, Aladdin and a bit of Maleficent. The last few chapters of this book had me on edge especially leaving off with a cliffhanger that I had to read three times to process! Definitely a book I'll be re-reading and I can't wait for book two!

An amazing story that pulls you into Alavara’s world. I absolutely love her as a character — she’s so strong and refuses to let anyone else determine the course of her life. Even when the truth is hidden from her by the people around her, she keeps pushing forward and grows because of it. And Laucian’s overprotective nature toward Alavara? I adored their dynamic and the tension it brings to the story.
Just when you think you know what’s happening — plot twist! This book keeps you guessing in the best way. And that cliffhanger at the end… oh my. It definitely left me shocked and so ready for the next installment.
A gripping, emotional fantasy with a powerhouse heroine and twists you won’t see coming!

I couldn't put it down once I started reading. The characters buildup and storyline had me hooked all the way through. Alavara, the fmc, and her direwolf Titanis have a special bond that really reminds me of Game of Thrones' Jon Snow & his direwolf, Ghost. Alavara and her siblings, Isa and Lux, have good relationships and they are there for each other as they go on their mission.
My 5 stars rating comes from the tantalizing edging of the slow burn ❤️🔥 between Alavara and the Dragon King, Laucian, and their bantering back and forth with teasing and playful, sassy remarks that only a Dragon King and Fae Princess can give. I'm so excited for Megan Rico to finish up Book 2!!

This book was such a fun time! The story follows Alavara, the princess of the light-fae kingdom, as she tries to solve a mystery with her siblings and hot dragon king.
I really enjoyed the worldbuilding, and the glossary at the end was a nice touch! It felt so fantastical, with multiple settings, magic, and did I mention the hot dragon king already?
Characters - 4/5
Alavara - (FMC) she really grew into her own by the end of this story. She finds out more about herself and becomes more confident both in herself, and her actions as she gets to leave the castle and interact with the other characters. I love women empowerment.
Lux - (Alavara's brother) He was the comedic relief, which was needed at times since the book has some heavy themes (death, kidnapping). He brought a lot of humor to this book to lighten the mood, which I really enjoyed.
Isa - (Alavara's sister) She gave older sister energy even though she is the middle the sister. Her divine connection was very interesting, and I am interested to see where she goes in the future.
Laucian - (King of the Dragons) aka the loml. I am obsessed with his character. He is green flags all around...with a bit of a freaky side. His lines were the most iconic, and I found myself reading more and more just to get to the scenes with him in it.
The animals (Titanis, Drugar, Arcadia) - super cute and very protective. I loved that each sibling had an animal protector of sorts. I am a sucker for animals, so I loved that they played such a big roles in the story.
Plot - 4/5
The plot follows Alavaria and her band of buddies as they search for the missing fae. I love a quest and getting to see multiple places in a book. We got to see 4 different cities in this world, and each felt unique. However, I was kind of confused at points (although I think I am supposed to be confused by the end). It was fast-paced, but also felt very cozy at the same time.
Worldbuilding - 4/5
I wish there was more background information on the political aspects of the world. I know Alavara's parents liked to keep her the dark, but what is this wat that is mentioned all throughout the book? The magic system was interesting, but not explained as well as I like. It seems that light fae have wings and do simple magic, but also have special powers? I just with that was fleshed out a bit more. However, the world itself was done very well. A dragon kingdom on a volcanic island? Genius. Dragons in general? Genius. (I really love Laucian, okay?)
Romance - 5/5
It had tension...SO MUCH TENSION. Overall, it has little spice, but I expect the spice rating to go up for future books in this series. I loved the banter between Alavara and Laucian, and although the book takes place in a shortperiod of time, their relationship doesn't feel insta-lovey. Laucian took notes of the things she liked, and offered to help her when she needed it. He allowed her to do things herself, while also being present. It felt very wholesome in a way (despite his dragon side being very UNwholesome). The whole "speaking through the bond" thing? Obsessed.
If you are looking to dive into a new fantasy series with fated mates, magic, and mystery, I highly recommend you pick this up!

Fantasy mystery must read
I really enjoyed reading Twisted Fates by Megan Rico! From the beginning, and throughout the book, there was something was being uncovered. I loved Alavara’s sibling dynamics, especially when Alavara’s parents seemed cold. Lux and Isa, Alavara’s siblings, are memorable characters who deserve their own book to tell more of their story. Especially Isa in that she was very uplifting and always there when Alavara needed her and then she paid a price to get something back (don’t want to spoil it for any new readers!). Laucian’s character was my favorite. I loved his consistency and his fierce protectiveness - especially when his dragon took over him. Those parts were my favorite. 😏Jharros suprised me - there was more to him than what it seemed like in the beginning. I’m definitely hooked and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I definitely recommend this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Themes in this book
- Instant mate
- sibling dynamics
- overprotective parents
- variety of fae types (brownies, dragons, shifters, shadows, tieflings)
- light vs dark fae
- magic powers
- faithful animal companions
Favorite quotes:
- My father’s voice was steady as he directed his words to me. “Let me introduce you to my eldest child, Princess Alavara. She, my heir, will join us during these discussions.” A knot tightened in my stomach as I stole a glance at Isa, her grin wide and eyebrows wiggling in amusement. She could always read my unease like an open book. Whatever comfort I sought from her fell flat under the weight of my nerves.
- “Careful, Kiada,” he warned, the rough edge of his tone sending a shiver down my spine. “You’re tempting me … and once I start, I don’t intend to stop until you’re mine.”

The storyline is interesting, with some cool magic and creatures. I’m a big fan of animal side kicks and they were a constant with some of these characters. The love story is a slow burn and no spice so if you do not like spice, no worries here. If you need spice in your romantasy, sorry, it’s not here.
Without explaining to avoid spoilers, there is a mate bond that frustrated me throughout the story. This is left on a cliffhanger.
I needed to look up the narrator to see if the voice was AI generated because there is one word repeated A LOT and it’s mispronounced each time as well as a few others that shouldn’t have been. They were not fantasy words, they were common. I found it extremely irritating. I don’t know why it wasn’t fixed in editing which also made me think it was a fake voice, but apparently the voice actor doesn’t know how to pronounce certain words. Just wanted to give a heads up on that.
With that said, Please do not openly accuse the use of AI without proper investigation. You can damage a person’s career if you are incorrect.
Rating is 3.25-3.5 rounded up due to lack of option on this platform.

I'm new to the fantasy world. At first I wasn't sure I liked this book. It didn't take long for it to drawl me in though. I love how strong willed Alevera is. How she stood her ground. She was defiant against her father, but for good reason. Then in walks Laucian, the dragon king and we learn the mate bond isn't always with who you chose.
The investigation into the missing fae only brings more questions than answers. So many secrets being kept. Who can you trust? In the middle of all of it Alevera and Laucian are dealing with a mate bond that no one agrees with. The relationship between the two is a slow burn, but not in a bad way. I got so wrapped up, I couldn't stop listening. Every chance I had, audible was on. I can't wait for the next book to see where their journey takes them.

I took a little detour from my usual chaos and ended up in this very cute, whimsical fantasy world. Twisted Fates has a really good storyline packed with adventure, mystical creatures, and enough fantasy chaos to keep me entertained. We’re talking Fae, dragon shifters, dire wolves, ogres… basically if it exists in a fantasy realm, it probably RSVP’d to this book. 😂
This is an M/F love story featuring two fated mates from different kingdoms. There’s no spice (just a little crude humor), so I’d definitely let my teenage child read it. Overall, it was a fun, magical read that felt like wandering through a fantasy kingdom where absolutely anything can happen.

While I have read some fantasy novels, it has been a long time, and never one written in with romantic overtones as this one is. The story, though, captivates you early on, layering mystery after mystery and compelling you to read on to discover what darkness is driving it. Alavara and Lauccian's slow-burning romance throughout the novel is both frustrating (in a good way) and entrhalling. A warning, though, if you pick this book up, you will sign yourself up for the entire series as she writes it. You are left wanting answers to the questions the novel sets up.

Magic. Rebellion. A bond written in fate.
This fantasy is a gripping blend of fae court politics, ancient magic, and forbidden love. The descriptions are lush and cinematic—think glowing forests, dragon kings, and blood-soaked secrets.
The story pulls you in with a strong heroine, her loyal siblings, and a romance that could break her—or the world. And that cliffhanger? Devastating. I need the next book ASAP.

I definitely loved this more than I expected to! I love love love that our FMC is not content to just be ran over. She put herself out there, followed her heart and got things done to the best of her abilities. And she wasn't whiney thankfully! I do love the fated mates protective vibes but still brought a respective tentative slow burn esq ish aspect to it. A few twists I didn't see which I appreciated and am looking forward to what's next after that cliffhanger!

If you’re someone who loves fantasy books with fae, dragons, mystery, and a romance that slowly builds over time, Twisted Fates by Megan Rico is definitely one to check out.
The story follows Alavara, the princess and heir to the Light Fae kingdom, whose world gets turned upside down when young fae start disappearing without a trace. No blood, no bodies, just gone. Poof! As more disappearances happen, Alavara ends up leaving behind the sheltered life she’s always known to figure out what’s really going on alongside her siblings and, of course, the Dragon King, Laucian.
And yes… we need to talk about Laucian, our dragon-shifter MMC, for a second.
If you love a protective fantasy love interest with tension, banter, and major green flag energy, he absolutely delivers. One of my favorite things about the romance in this book was that it didn’t feel rushed. It’s definitely more of a slow burn with a ton of tension and an emotional connection instead of just instantly falling in love. Their bond was honestly one of the highlights for me. And I couldn't help but love it when Laucian's dragon came out. IYKYK.
But the romance isn’t the only thing going for this story.
I had such a fun time getting to explore the world Megan Rico created. Between the fae kingdoms, dragon shifters, magical creatures, and multiple locations throughout the story, it felt really immersive. I especially loved getting to travel to different cities because each one felt unique in its own way. And the dragon kingdom on a volcanic island? Such a cool concept.
I also really enjoyed the family dynamics in this one. Alavara’s siblings, Lux and Isa, added so much to the story. Lux brought a lot of humor at times when things got heavier, and Isa had such protective older sister energy. I loved seeing the three of them work together as they tried to figure out the mystery behind the missing fae.
And can we talk about the animal companions for a second? Titanis, Drugar, and Arcadia were such a fun addition to the story. I’m always a sucker for protective animals in fantasy books, and they added a lot of heart to the story for me.
Another thing I really liked was Alavara’s character growth. She starts out pretty sheltered, but as the story goes on, you really get to see her grow into herself and start trusting her own instincts.
Overall, Twisted Fates felt like a really fun mix of mystery, fantasy, family dynamics, magic, and romance. It has fated mates, dragons, fae politics, magical creatures, sibling relationships, and a romance with plenty of tension.
If you like romantasy with a slow-burn romance, fantasy politics, mystery, dragon shifters, and characters you get attached to, I think this would be a really fun one to pick up. Especially if you love a book that leaves you excited to see where the series goes next.
