Do Wildness: Myth, mystery and mischief

Rate this book
"Embellished with sweet linocuts depicting wooded spaces, Anna McCracken’s soulful self-help guide is about meaning-making through engagement with ancient wisdom and attuned states of being" – Foreword

Do Wildness is a witchy field guide to the hidden world of birdsong, moon cycles, and stargazing. Discover ways to reconnect, even in our most densely populated cities.

What happens when the life you've built no longer feels like the life meant for you? When you feel drawn towards something wilder and more alive?

Anna McCracken felt a calling to not just change her life, but to run away with the wolves. Clearly, this was a terrifying prospect, so she ignored it. Yet despite her best efforts, the pull only grew stronger, until she took to the road.

From the remote deserts of Australia to the bustle of New York City, Do Wildness is about what happens when we start to notice what modern life so often trains us to birdsong, moon cycles, seasons and soils, rhythms and relationships. When instead of rushing forward, we remember the old stories didn’t teach us about perfection, but participation.

With 10 practises to help us reconnect with the natural world and our place within it, Do Wildness offers a way back to aliveness, beauty, and belonging.

So come now, there’s a fairy wren behind the hedgerow, ready to tell you a story…

Just as the author Anna McCracken felt a calling to not just change her life, but to be as one with our world, I felt a calling from the start to read, and use her book to dance outside, and make greater use of all my senses. At a time of heightened hysteria, this book starts with the principles, and then delights with a series of practices that can make a more practical difference on their own, but once braided together, will hatch an off-grid revolution. I had a lot of hope for this book, and it certainly delivered, although if you are too stuck in the map and expectations of the everyday, it may not be for you just yet.
