Jordan Roberts has been content with the one-night stands she’s been having for the past seven years since discovering her partner cheating on her. Jordan has vowed never to give her heart to anyone ever again, and has been successful until Kirsten comes into her life.
Kirsten Murphy’s marriage is falling apart, but her budding friendship with Jordan is easing her heartache. Kirsten is also discovering her tamped-down attraction to women is resurfacing, and it has everything to do with Jordan.
Can Jordan release her self-imposed exile on relationships? Does Kirsten have what it takes for Jordan to finally give her heart to another?

KC Richardson attended college on a basketball scholarship, and her numerous injuries in her various sports led her to a career in physical therapy. Her love for reading and writing allows her to create characters and tell their stories. She and her wife live in Southern California where they are trying to raise respectful fur kids. When KC isn’t torturing… erm… fixing people, she loves spending time with her wonderful friends and family, reading, writing, kayaking, working out, and playing golf.

Meh! This is amateur storytelling at it's best -- the storyline comes off as a fanfiction love story. The plot started okay then went downhill from. The writings seems way too soapy and fictitious which made the entire premise a bit dense and did not even make any sense. Honestly, it really was a frustrating story:- we had a husband who had no feelings for his wife --- then said wife turn around and developed feelings for one of the main character (Jordan) who had this pissed off attitude because her earlier girlfriend left her for a man (7 years ago) -- she was against being in any committed relationships during these seven or more years until Kirsten came along. Nothing more to say about this storytelling -- I guest the author tried but fail.
Interactions between main characters and best friends was enjoyable and very real. Overall, Left me feeling it needed more work, the story wasn't polished. It was a bit too plotted out in the feeling.. Attraction, connection, developed feelings, miscommunication, tragedy, reuniting.. I guess that is the bases for all romance, but you could see it coming and had no twists.
More telling than showing and a little overly sweet for me, but I liked the main characters a lot, as well as their best friends. I'll look for more from this author in the future.
A good story that sort of sagged in the middle, but then found it's voice again and finished with a surge. Glad I kept on reading... recommended, but stick with it.
Jordan Roberts is a physical therapist who loves playing basketball. She is known as a player in other areas too, since finding her girlfriend in bed with a bloke seven years ago. Sworn off relationships for good, she feels that single is the way to go.
Kirsten Murphy is an HR executive who has been married for three years. Her husband is kind and thoughtful, but their busy lives have left them with no real connection and she is starting to realise how lonely she is.
A chance encounter at one of Jordan’s basketball games has both Jordan and Kirsten realising that something is missing in their lives. This is the story of how that chance meeting changes their understanding of themselves, and what they want from life.
Richardson has come up with two interesting, strong characters, and while there isn’t really any new territory here for lesbian romance, I did thoroughly like the characters and the story. Jordan is thoughtful but running scared, and Kirsten is generous and going through a massive shifting of her understanding of herself. The combination of the two, carefully handled by Richardson, makes for an engaging tale. I heartily recommend this book.

This novel was just shy of being a great story from beginning to end. I seem to have a soft spot for debut authors, so I feel I always go a little easier on them versus reviewing novels written by seasoned and published writers, but K.C. Richardson made it very easy to forget I was reading a first-time novelist many times throughout her debut story "New Beginnings."

The story of Jordan and Kirsten's romance was a sincere and believable adventure, without many surprises along the way. But the predictability worked for this story, in a way that made it comforting and pleasing to the reader, knowing that this was going to be a joyful journey, instead of one possibly fraught with peril. A few things that kept me from giving this novel a 5-star rating were the overuse of personal monologue; the fact that the author repeatedly TOLD the reader what they characters were feeling, instead of showing the reader; and the way the ending seemed to be a bit rushed compared to the rest of the novel and the pace that it set in the first 80% of its contents.
With that being said, I still give K.C. Richardson some props for a successful debut novel. The story kept me engaged to the point that I wanted to read it all the way through to the very end, making it easy to fall into the lives of Jordan, Kirsten, and their friends. It was enjoyable, and one I would recommend to anyone looking for a cozy romance or a beach read over the summer. I hope to see K.C. Richardson improve from this point, as she has set the bar high for other novels to come. Her story was sound, and the characters interesting, keeping my attention from the first page. I look forward to novels from her in the future.
This is the first time I have read a lesbian story, but I enjoyed reading it. The author did an amazing job as the book is very well written, and I easily related to the characters. Jordan, a physical therapist, and Kristen, a Human Resource Manger, Jordan is openly gay and Kristen is in a very unhappy marriage to her husband, John. Kristen and Jordan first formally through a mutual acquaintance.
I could sympathize with Kristen as she was married and didn't think that she was a lesbian.Jordan having previously been deeply hurt by a past lover was against any relationship that went past one night. Any one that has been hurt in the past can relate to that. After Jordan and Kristen meet, they form a friendship and their relationship naturally progressed. Jordan's romantic side was so sweet, and the way they truly loved each other and took care of each other really showed the depth of their love. I was glad the author including sex scenes as it added to the couples authenticity and showed the passion they have for one another. It is tastefully and authentically written about sex between two women. Had the author left out sex scenes, it would have been a disservice to her readers. For those who think they would be uncomfortable reading about two women, remember 50 Shades of Gray, you can handle it. I love romance novels, and as I am not gay which really shouldn't matter, I read the book without any hesitation as every person should be able to love whomever they so chose regardless of sex.

New Beginnings is a standalone F/F romance from author KC Richardson and is one I would classify as a slow burn love story between Jordan Roberts, single and a physical therapist, and Kirsten Murphy, married and vice president for human resources in a private company. I liked the intense connection the two had and I enjoyed reading as their friendship developed over time. Kirsten may be straight but she's already had feelings for another woman in the past, while Jordan had a girlfriend who cheated on her with a man. You can kind of tell that these things are going to come into play in the story to add to the tension.
The overall story was good, but there were certain times that I felt the internal monologue going on was overdone, making it all feel tedious after a while. The two obviously had their struggles, wondering if they should even consider admitting their attraction to one another, so I don't think every single internal monologue was necessary. I did like Jordan and Kirsten, as well as their best friends Alex Taylor and Brenda Lewis, and appreciated that Kirsten's husband, John Hennessy, wasn't made out to be a villain. The ending was sweet and one that the main characters quite deserved. New Beginnings gets four stars. ♥
When I asked for this ARC I did so because I love the trope of the player womanizer that falls madly in love with the cute girl she meets by chance, like it was meant to be, like the red string of fate, I’m a sucker for romance like that.
And this book does not disappoint, Jordan is a woman that’s really guarded and has promised herself to never be in a relationship, this clearly leads to a string of one night stands, and she is very up front about her intentions so it’s sort of gentlemanly.
Kristin is unhappily married, her relationship is in a crash and burn situation that when she confronts her husband about it, and at the same time is intrigued by Jordan sets in motion a series of events that make them a very enjoyable couple.
This story is full of romance and a very light but engaging emotional struggle that fortunately, at least for me, is not a coming out story, it’s just is and is a breath of fresh air. Towards the end it felt a bit rushed but not as much to make it annoying, just a little blip in your radar so it shouldn’t affect too much the reading experience.
I quite enjoyed this novel very much. I loved the characters of Kirsten and Jordan as well as their friends, I found that the characters personalities and the stuff they're dealing with really interesting. I could not put the book down and loved it! I loved the way that the two of them continuely met over time and liked to think that fate was playing a role, although that may just be the hopeless romantic in me saying that. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who loves a good love story!
I found the friendships much more interesting than the main actual relationship between Kristen and Jordan. Their relationship felt a bit cliche to me and wasn't enough to hold my interest. I did finish the book, but it dragged at times.
