I am not the biggest football fan in America ... or even on the block. However, I will watch on occasion, and am familiar with some of the stories of a small midwestern town who has managed to support an NFL team for decades. "Tales From the Packers Sidelines: A Collection of the Greatest Stories Ever Told" contains a number of biographical sketches and team anecdotes from the history of the Green Bay Packers - with recent history (if that's not an oxymoron) taking up the lion's share of the book.

As someone not very familiar with the details, most of what was in this book was new to me. However, a true Packers fan is likely to find little in this book that he or she is not already familiar with (which may be disappointing, or it may provide them with a welcome excuse to reminisce). Anyone familiar with the series should already be prepared for the format and the lack of groundbreaking information, so while I'm not going to overly praise the book, neither am I going to condemn it.

Of course, I WOULD be curious how quarterback Brett Farve would be treated within these pages had he not been at or near his prime at the time of publication! I might suspect the reverence that he is (mostly) given would be largely eliminated.

Being a Packer fan I thought the book was entertaining, but would have liked to have been presented with more details - something that someone who was living in the state of WI wouldn't know simply via word-of-mouth. The author's opinion of certain Packers - especially those he does not like - is pretty apparent (and sometimes entertaining). The fact that the short stories lack any semblance of order and that there are several sentences that appear in the book twice, was annoying.

A great book containing many stories of the Packers throughout the years. There many snippets stories I've heard of but never the whole story. A good fun read.
