Emma's collection of poems in "No Billboard Gospel" is filled with imagery of a faith that is messy because of it being rooted and grounded in something deep and real. Some poems left me curious, some brought a smile to my face. I will certainly be reading them over again and again.

These poems are wonderfully crafted and deeply emotional. They uplift the soul, dig deep into the earth, and reflect Mrs. Stephens' childhood and life. More importantly, it made me think about God and his magnificent love and power. I had to re-read some of the poems that truly struck me. Every line is packed with meaning.

I am grateful that I get to celebrate my professor's success, especially since she made such a positive impact as I learned how to write effectively and beautifully in her class. I am in awe of her skills!

This book of poems is red clay on your knees one muggy Sunday evening. It’s a raw look at a hungry, rugged sort of faith. It reminded me that living this life in this world is a fight, but it’s a good one.
Honestly it brought me to tears! I may be a bit biased, but I loved these poems. I read the entire collection in one sitting because I wanted the words to keep singing in my mind. I loved the imagery and the very Southern feel—though not rich-folk-Southern, mind you. This is average folk Southern gothic and gospel.
Truly a wonderful collection of poems!

This is such a wonderful collection. I deeply resonate with these poems, and it's difficult to choose just one favorite, as they are all so well-written. Stephens is a master of wordcraft. Looking forward to reading again and again!
