Revenge x Stalker x Bully Book One of the Monster Duet, which takes place in the Devil Universe.
Piper I’m on a mission to kill a man. I never thought of myself as bloodthirsty. But I never thought I’d come home on Christmas Eve to find my entire family slaughtered either. Now there’s nothing I won’t do to destroy the monster responsible. So I hunt him. But lately, I can’t shake the feeling that I’m not the only one hunting. And the predator stalking me may be far more dangerous than the one I’m chasing.
The Monster She calls me a monster. She has no idea. She thinks she knows me. I was once her silent protector. Then I became the teenager who shoved her head into a toilet bowl and listened to her beg for air. Now I'm the man who watches her from the shadows. The monster under her bed. I come out at night to play. To play with Piper Day. She’s mine. Mine to hurt. Mine to break. Mine to own.
Stalker Bully Revenge Touch her and die
This is a very dark romance. Please read content warnings carefully.

Title: Monsters Prey Author: A.V. Blackmoor Genre: Dark Revenge Romance Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Main Characters: Quill & Piper Book Type: Duet
What the actually fxck did I just read?! This was so damn good I’m not sure words can even describe.
Quill isn’t just out for revenge. He’s obsessive, brutal, and completely unhinged. The kind of man who doesn’t just take..HE OWNS!
And that ending?? Absolutely insane!! I just sat there staring at my screen for a minute trying to process what just happened.
I need answers immediately, so yeah, I didn’t even hesitate. Straight to book two immediately!

Thank you so much to the author for sharing an ARC of this book with me!
“He destroyed my happiness, and then he promised he’d destroy my life”
Pitch black would be an understatement for this book. Imagine Den of Vipers but it’s a simple MF relationship that has no simplicity in it. It’s everything all the dark romances have and more and it’s obsessive. It’s addicting and it’s a nightmare. It’s impossibly good and it’s tough. It’s deep and unhinged and it’s grounded in two traumatic pasts which both main characters cannot get out of. Definitely check trigger warnings before diving into it because it’s not for everyone, let me tell you. But if you want to be left traumatised by your love stories and find solace in pain, then … this is definitely the book for you! And by the time you get to the end, you’ll honestly want to know what happens to the characters !!! What a jaw dropping finale that one was!!!
Wow. This was such an emotionally heavy book. And just to be clear up front: this is not a dark “lite” read. If you like your bully romance on the darker end of the spectrum, this might be the book for you.
Dark romance covers such a wide range, and going in, I honestly wasn’t sure what kind of dark I was about to get. This isn’t gore‑coded or horror‑coded, but it’s still very dark — emotionally, psychologically, and physically. The relationship dynamics carry most of that weight, and there are several moments where the FMC is in real danger.
Quill is absolutely morally black, and not in the “broody alpha with a dangerous job” way. He’s as close to a true psychopath as a dark romance MMC can probably get. His emotional wiring is off, and the book doesn’t try to soften that. He’s someone who was shaped, or broken, by the environment he grew up in, and that makes his reactions unsettling but believable.
Piper, on the other hand, can come off as weak or passive at first glance, which is usually a negative for me since I tend to prefer strong FMCs or ones who grow into their strength. But when you look at the psychological dynamics of her childhood (years of peer abuse, emotional neglect, and being dismissed by the people who should have protected her) her behavior makes sense. She’s not simpering. She’s someone who learned to survive by staying small, quiet, and agreeable. Some of her choices frustrated me, but I understood why she made them.
This book had me in analytical mode in the best way. I was constantly assessing the relational dynamics between Piper and Quill. The past/present POV structure added so much nuance and slowly revealed how their connection formed, fractured, and spiraled into what it is now. Their relationship is messy and painful, but it makes sense for who they are and what they’ve lived through.
And then there’s the secret‑society/underworld thread running underneath everything. It adds this ominous layer that left me with so many unanswered questions. I’m dying to know how all of that ties into Piper’s past and what it means for her future. That mystery is a huge part of why I’m desperate for Book 2.
The cliffhanger absolutely got me. I knew the general direction the story was heading, but the way it landed still caught me off guard. The fallout left me with so much angst, and I immediately wished the next book was already out.
For such a dark romance, there were more angsty moments than I expected. Some parts of Piper and Quill’s relationship were genuinely uncomfortable to read, and my heart broke for her more than once. But seeing Quill’s perspective, there were moments where I found myself thinking, “If a psychopath could feel love, this is what it would look like.”
What do you do when the person you obsessed with but also HATE comes back into town? Oh and she also hates you and thinks you killed her parents. Well you stalk her a little bit and put yourself in her way every single chance you get.
This book is obsessive and possessive and unhinged and I was obsessed, glued to my seat the entire time. The mystery, the questions. The heartbreak and betrayal. The hate spice. I loved every single thing about it.
It does end on a cliffhanger but this is going to be a rapid release so book 2 will be out in less than a month thankfully, because I have lots of questions and thoughts and I need answers.
This book is extra dark with a side of unhinged. It's twisted, addictive, and so full of obsession and possesivness. This is the second duet in The Devil Universe I've read by A.V. Blackmoor and dare, I say it's even better than the first!? I'm so hooked. The mystery and suspense alone had me on the edge of my seat, but the spice was scortching. The dark psychological aspects of their relationship were intense, to say the least.
Check your triggers because this book is not for the faint of heart.
Piper and "The Monster" are absolutely insane. They have some of the best hate fueled spice, tension, and chemistry that's undeniable. I couldn't get enough of their dynamic. I enjoyed the dual timeline and gaining some background on their relationship.
That cliffhanger!! What!? I have so many questions!!! I'm still collecting my jaw off of the floor.
Tropes: Stalker Obsessed Morally-gray Revenge Bully Touch her and ☠️ Graphic/Explicit Dual POV
This book was my undoing!!! At first I was not sure I would be able to read this. It was very dark. Check your triggers. This has every trigger under the sun.
Quill is a very disturbed person, even from a very young age. Piper is a very nerdy girl who is trying to be strong.
Quill wants to kill Piper, but he can't. He doesn't know why. Piper just wants to hate him. She can't help but get sucked in.
As I read more and the story evolved I found myself sucked in. I will definitely read the next one.
This bully dark romance had me completely hooked from the very beginning—I couldn’t put it down! The FMC is relentlessly targeted by the MMC throughout their school years, and he’s not just cruel… he’s downright psychopathic and obsessively fixated on her in a way that makes the story so intense and addictive.
I absolutely loved the plot and the dynamic between the characters. Piper’s smart mouth and the banter between them added the perfect edge and kept things entertaining even in the darker moments. Everything just worked so well together.
And that ending?! A completely wild cliffhanger that left me needing more immediately. I’m jumping straight into book two—no hesitation!
Received this book as an arc from bookfunnel. Thank you A.V. Blackmoor. Def spicy dark romance and has a good storyline. There were some parts that I thought were repetitive and could have shortened the book a bit. I gave it 3.5⭐️ but rounded to 4! Left off on a cliffhanger will read the second book to find out what happens!!
Thank you A. V. Blackmoor for the arc of monster’s prey! The relationship between Piper and Quill is captivating, and keeps you from wanting to put the book down. It does leave off on a major cliffhanger but the second book comes out later in the month so luckily I can read the second part soon. I liked that this book had a bit more mystery in it, while still being dark and spicy. I would consider this book to be dark light, compared to other books I’ve read. Obviously check your trigger warnings. I’m interested in learning what Logan’s connection to Piper is. I like Piper love a good mystery and grew up reading Nancy Drew. Piper’s character was quite relatable which is always nice to see in books. I hope we learn even more about Quill in the second book, near the end of the book I saw a good amount of character development which I’m sure will just continue throughout the next part.

Holy Batman was this one a jaw clencher!! I’ve read the Devil Duet so I knew it would be awesome. I see trigger warnings more like a dessert menu, lol. Loved Piper’s sass and Quill’s intensity is next level. Soo good!! Cannot wait for book 2!!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was great. I’m big into crime, romance, and mystery and this book gives it all. When they say this is a dark romance, it is dark. I cannot wait to read the next book in the duet! I received an advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Monster’s Prey by A.V. Blackmoor absolutely consumed me. This isn’t just a dark romance—it’s a psychological spiral wrapped in obsession, power, and raw emotional chaos that keeps tightening with every page.
The relationship between Quill and Piper is… intense in a way that’s almost impossible to put into words. It’s dark, confusing, and deeply layered. One moment you’re questioning everything, the next you’re completely hooked on their dynamic. Quill is not your typical romantic lead—he’s dangerous, unpredictable, and morally gray in the most extreme sense. And Piper? She’s not just a victim of circumstance—there’s something about her resilience and complexity that makes her just as compelling. Together, they create a connection that feels like a collision rather than a romance—twisted, magnetic, and impossible to look away from.
The plot itself is gripping from the start, weaving tension, mystery, and dread into every chapter. The eerie background surrounding Devil’s Tower adds this haunting atmosphere that lingers throughout the story. There’s a sense that something is deeply wrong beneath the surface, and the further you go, the more that unease builds. It’s not just a setting—it feels like a living, breathing force shaping everything that happens.
Please, please check the trigger warnings before diving in. This book does not hold back. It explores very dark themes that won’t be for everyone—but if you’re someone who enjoys pushing boundaries in fiction, this will absolutely deliver.
And that ending… I’m still not okay. This is the first book in the series, and it ends on a brutal, jaw-dropping cliffhanger that left me staring at the wall trying to process what I just read. It doesn’t just leave you wanting more—it demands it.
If you’re looking for a safe, predictable love story, this is not it. But if you want something dark, intense, and completely unforgettable… Monster’s Prey will sink its claws into you and refuse to let go. Piper comes home from college for the first time in three years, only to find her parents dead in their home. Convinced her psycho ex has to be involved, she is determined to uncover the truth of what happened to them, but she quickly finds herself trapped in her ex’s orbit, and despite how he destroyed her before she left, he still acts like he both hates her, and wants to protect her. The more she searches, the more she begins to realize that everything goes back to DEVIL, the elite organization at the heart of their town, with its army of soldiers waiting to execute their contracts without question.
As a child, Quill became obsessed with Piper, first he thought he wanted to kill her, but eventually it transformed into wanting to possess her in every way. Despite knowing that as a Devil soldier he couldn’t get attached, he found himself falling in love with her anyways, but when she betrayed him, he made it clear she would not survive their next encounter. With her back in town, he knows she won’t leave the mystery of her parents’ death alone, and the last thing he needs is for her to go snooping around Devil tower and capture the attention of worse monsters than him. So against his best judgement he does everything he can to keep her safe, while trying to suppress the need to eliminate her himself.
I received an early copy of this book from the author, and as much as I enjoyed the Devil Duet, I absolutely loved this one! Piper and Quill were all kinds of dysfunctional from the beginning, but somehow she saw past his darkness to the boy underneath. While his methods were questionable at best, absolutely unhinged at worst, he loved her in the only way he knew how. I loved how the story followed a dual timeline, from their childhood to the incident that forced her to leave town, as well as the present day, helping readers understand what shaped them, and ultimately what broke them. Knowing the Devils themselves, I’m curious how Piper fits into their world, and after the cliffhanger that left me reeling, I’m counting down the days until book 2 releases.
I was utterly enthralled throughout, it had all the tension and intrigue of a murder mystery, while having deep dark romance as a worthy opponent.
The flashbacks in both characters perspectives, provided a lot of needed context to the behaviours of the main characters.
I thought it might be a little tough to read based on the triggers, but I found it wasn't that horrifying, maybe I'm desensitised to darkness now 🤔
This is by no means your typical dark romance, if you like a psychopathic MMC while he's also a complete cinnamon roll, then you will enjoy.
There's a whole lot of miscommunication in this book, and while that usually deters me from continuing a story, I found it utterly riveting, it had already gripped my mind with iron claws early on in the book, so I was compelled to see it to the end.
I was mind-yelling the whole time, that they need to talk instead of just getting jiggy.
I'm super excited for book 2 after that cliffhanger, what even is that!
How can you leave me without closure? What the friggin frig happened at the end you monster. I'm not going to be able to rest until I have a copy of Monsters Claim in my paws!
Super super spicy book, bordering on the maybe too much zone.
Who am I kidding..
It was excellent.
I would have liked to see some more world building. More on the Devils. More of Quills history.
I honestly don't know how all the plot twists and crazy situations will be sufficiently crammed into just one book..
It doesn't seem possible there's just so much to be done.
Anyhoo, 5 shiny stars and I will wait eagerly for book 2. I'm sure it will ruin me.
Monster’s Prey by A. V. Blackmoor is a gripping psychological spiral that balances dark romance with a compelling mystery, successfully weaving together suspense, obsession, and raw emotion. The relationship between Piper and Quill is intense and deeply layered, featuring two characters whose shared obsessive tendencies surprisingly complement one another. Piper’s resilience makes her incredibly relatable, while Quill serves as a magnetic, morally gray lead who keeps the tension high. Their dynamic moves beyond a typical romance into a complex collision of personalities that is impossible to look away from. The plot itself is fast-paced and atmospheric. The use of dual first-person perspectives and historical flashbacks effectively builds the world. The character development, particularly toward the end of the book, suggests an even more expansive journey in the next half of the duet. While the story concludes on a brutal, jaw-dropping cliffhanger, the promise of a satisfying conclusion in the upcoming second installment makes the wait worthwhile. Monster’s Prey delivers on every level for those seeking an intense, unforgettable psychological romance that pushes boundaries while maintaining a high level of intrigue. I’m ready to dive into the second half of this duet to see how it all ends. I highly recommend reviewing the trigger warnings, as the author explores very dark themes with raw emotional honesty.
Thank you A. V. Blackmoor for the ARC of Monster’s Prey.
No, no, no, no! Please why did it end like that!!I wasn’t ready😭
I really enjoyed the Nancy Drew references, those were actually my favorite books growing up!
I don’t even know where to start lol!!
Piper, gosh I don’t even know how she made it through all those years dealing with all that trauma. Understandably she’s not a really strong FMC but I can definitely see her potential and her want to be one and I so desperately want her to be one!
Quill, gah, how is it possible to absolutely wish ill upon a character but also low key swoon over them too? Maybe im the problem because his darkness did something to me 😭
The spice is spicing 🌶️🌶️ 🌶️37 times… I mean okay yes please - I’ll volunteer 😂😂
I love Josh, he honestly is like the best friend ever and he’s funny!
Liam and Dane - kindly go off to space and never come back again!!
Ahhhhh also, I knew Logan (from Devils Duet) was my fav for a reason - I don’t know what’s coming in book 2 and I’m hoping he doesn’t disappoint me… and also like what’s the connection? I’m trying to rack my brain and figure it out.. what am I missing?
🌶🌶🌶 This book didn’t hook me instantly, but I still found myself eager to keep reading. The story is told through multiple POVs and shifts between past and present, which keeps things fast-paced and engaging. It feels grounded in a real-world setting while still delivering a strong sense of mystery and darker themes. I really enjoyed the mystery aspect. It kept me curious and wanting to piece everything together. Piper, the FMC, came across as a bit naïve at times, but I connected deeply with her past, which made her feel more real and understandable on a personal level. Quill, the MMC, honestly frustrated me quite a bit. I didn’t always like him, but I could see the reasoning behind his choices, which added depth to his character. Their relationship can be a little confusing to follow, but when you consider their individual traumas, it makes sense why they’re drawn to each other. This book is packed with twists that kept me on edge, and there’s a good amount of spice woven throughout. That ending though… I was screaming! It finishes on a cliffhanger, but thankfully the next book is coming soon because I need to know what happens next.
Author: A.V. Blackmoor Release Date: April 2, 2026 Genre: Pitch Black Romance
When I yelled “DARKER” into the void…I was gifted with Monster’s Prey. The MMC & FMC have a complicated history and we learn about their past through dual POV. It has the perfect amount of story mixed with spice if you are looking for a dark romance that not just full on smut and offers mystery, morally grey characters and revenge. It’s left off of a cliffhanger and there’s at least one character I suspect is not who they make themselves out to be. The characters and settings are well described. I don’t typically think about a book while im not reading it but I found myself wanting to get back into this one. Looking forward to book 2!
Triggers: as someone who has no triggers I strongly recommend that you always check your triggers and be good to yourself
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This didn’t just cross into dark romance… it went way past it—this is pitch black!!
Monster’s Prey is intense in a way that feels almost suffocating. It drops you straight into grief, revenge, and obsession, and never lets you breathe. Piper’s pain is sharp and consuming, but the real danger isn’t just what she’s chasing… it’s what’s already watching her.
Quill is not your typical “dark” love interest—he’s something else entirely. Unpredictable, obsessive, and deeply unsettling. Their connection isn’t soft, it’s a full-on collision of hate, history, and control that keeps spiraling darker the deeper you go.
The tension never breaks. The emotions feel chaotic, heavy, and addictive all at once—you don’t even realise how hooked you are until you can’t look away.
And that ending? Absolutely brutal. I was left staring into space trying to process what just happened. Thank goodness Book 2 is on the way!!
If you’re looking for something beyond dark—something that consumes you—this is it.
Thank you Book Sirens for the ARC these are my honest thoughts
I would say "what the heck did I just read" But then I read the Devil's Duet so I know how unhinged A.V. Blackmoor's books are. Unhinged in the best of ways. Piper Day returns to her childhood home to find her parents both murdered. She immediately suspects someone from her past - Quill Nelson. Piper and Quilll have had a tumultous relationship since the 5th grade. Quill is a member of the Devil's although this book can absolutely be read without having read Devil's Duet. But if you have read those - Quill is as obsessed with Piper as Damien was with Seraphina. Piper's trying to solve the murder of her parents while working out the crazy obsessive relationship with Quill. They love each other but hurt each other and are both incredibly broken people. We see Damien and Logan from the Devils at the very end of the book. It ends with some things being resolved - but also a cliffhanger. April 29 cannot come too soon. If you like Dark Romance and a morally gray man who tear down the world for that one woman - you NEED to read this book.

If you are a fan of the The Edge of Darkness series by Leigh Rivers, I have no doubt that you will like this book. You will find a lot of similarities but the story stands apart in a lot of ways. I loved the flashback scenes from when they were kids which you also had in TEOD but their origin story has a stronger enemies to lovers situation going on.
There were definitely moments that had me giggling which is nice when you have dark premise. The writing and dialogue is very easy to relate to. I am starting to notice a theme with AVB that they pull in references from childhood that have an influence on the FMC. I think that is a unique aspect of the story and brings in something familiar to what is otherwise a very dark and messed up world.
The ending leaves you on a pretty big cliffhanger and wanting to know how it all plays out. Note the triggers before jumping in!
Thanks to the author for this ARC and the opportunity to provide an honest review!
Blackmoor completely captivated me in the best way. This is so much more than a dark romance—it’s an intense psychological journey filled with obsession, power, and raw, emotional depth that pulls you in deeper with every chapter. The story itself is incredibly gripping, with tension and intrigue woven seamlessly throughout. The eerie atmosphere surrounding Devil’s Tower adds such a unique and haunting layer to the book—it truly feels alive and enhances the sense of mystery in a way that elevates the entire experience. Definitely check the trigger warnings beforehand, as the book explores some very dark themes. That said, for readers who enjoy intense, boundary-pushing stories, this delivers in every way. And that ending… wow. I’m still thinking about it. The cliffhanger is bold, shocking, and incredibly effective—it left me completely invested and eager for what comes next.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A.V. Blackmoor is a new-to-me author, and I really enjoyed this one. This bully romance has so many layers of mystery, which kept me hooked the whole time.
Quill and Piper have a long, complicated history, and I think the storytelling was done really well, moving between their past as teenagers and their present in their 20s. It added depth to their connection and made everything hit a little harder.
This is definitely a darker romance, so I’d recommend checking trigger warnings beforehand. That said, I’d personally classify it as a lighter dark romance — a good entry point if you’re easing into the genre.
The reason I gave it 3 stars is because the character development felt a bit lacking. From their teenage years to adulthood, Quill and Piper seemed like the same people, just older. I was hoping to see more growth and evolution from both of them.
It does end on a cliffhanger, but the second book is already out for anyone who wants to continue the story.
OMG, I have to wait until April 29th to find out what happens!!!! NOOOOOOO!!
Before reading this book check your trigger warnings, and understand this book ends in a cliffhanger.
This is the second book by A.V. Blackmoor, and I have to admit I do like the writing style, the duel point of views and how the chapters flicker between the past and the present.
Poor Piper Day (in more ways than one), shes not having a very good time in school because of the bullies, and one main one Quill, who is a double edge sword, bully and protector all wrapped with a nice bow. But Piper got to leave for a bit for university in California, but comes home from University to visit her folks, only to be swept up in a “Who Done It” adventure, and being brought back to her bully/protector Quill.
If you like morally grey (bordering on black) MMC’s, with fast pace story line, grab this book.
I stumbled upon this as an ARC and the cover caught my attention, I do love my skulls haha but I'm so glad I took a random chance on this book
Dual POV, back and forth in timeline, slowly dripping all the info in glorious torture
Omg its so good, if you love a dark romance, with hatred and stalkerish vibes, a secret society where the rich keep the rich, rich and bully those with less then this book was so fun, (ok my idea of fun, may not be yours, but I couldn't put it down)
And that cliffhanger omg I need the next book NOW!!!
I'm now going to read her other duet, while I wait for the 2nd instalment of this duet or series, I'm not sure yet
Check your triggers, this won't be for everyone, but if your heart is as black as mine, then run!
Okay friends… this book is VERY dark. Please read your trigger warnings before diving in. This is a bully, stalker, revenge, pitch-black romance that explores some heavy themes — but if you’re like me and love dark romance… dive right in.
I had the amazing opportunity to read this as an ARC, and it’s set in the DEVIL world from my earlier reads, Devil Owned and Devil Kept.
Our FMC, Piper, felt really relatable. The story is told across two timelines — her teenage years and her connection with Quill, and the present day, where they cross paths again after Piper’s parents are un-alived. Piper is determined to hunt down the monster responsible.
Now… Quill. Our MMC is morally questionable (to say the least), but his obsession with Piper — especially during their teenage years — had me constantly torn between loving him and hating him. The emotional rollercoaster was real. One moment I’m in awe of his devotion, and the next I’m gasping at plot twists I didn’t see coming.
And that ending?! The cliffhanger has me desperate for answers. What is the connection between Piper and Logan? And how did Quill go all this time not knowing what Liam and Dane did?!
Well done, A.V. Blackmoor — Monsters Claim hit my inbox this morning as an ARC, and I cannot wait to dive in 🫶🏼🖤
Oh. Oh no. What did I just read?? This is NOT dark-lite. This is heavy, messy, and uncomfortable in the way dark romance is supposed to be. The tension lives in the relationship, and there are multiple moments where Piper is in real danger. Quill is not morally gray—he’s morally black. No soft edges, no redemption polish. Just a man who feels… off in a way that’s both unsettling and weirdly compelling. If a psychopath could love, this is what it might look like. Piper isn’t a strong FMC in the typical sense, which frustrated me at times—but her behavior makes sense when you look at everything she’s been through. She survived the only way she knew how. The past/present timeline really builds the spiral of their relationship, and I was fully locked in trying to figure them out. Add in the secret-society/underworld layer, and I have SO many questions going into book two. And that ending?? Absolutely disrespectful. I’m glad I got behind on ARCs and read this after the next book was out… because I needed it immediately. Thank you A.V. Blackmoor for the ARC!
Well, that cliffhanger left my jaw touching the floor.
I need book 2…. like now!!!!
Though it is a very trigger happy book, i loved it.
As well as it being in the universe as the book Devil Owned. It was nice to read of what else goes on in the Devil's empire.
I loved the FMC/MMC's but i didnt like how he went from her crush/protecter to her bully in high school then being her lover. Minus the bullying in high school i shipped their unhinged but some how cozy relationship.
The plot was well thought out. I was hooked from the beginning and i really can't wait for book 2.
WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT PIPER DAY????
