In a dystopian world where organic memory is being erased and history forgotten by AI and machines, a raggedy group of misfits called the Pillars survive to keep the code of humanity from being rewritten. This short story is compelling and complex, yet at its heart, it's a tale of hope and survival: the human perseverance in the face of impossible odds.
Absolutely fantastic read! It kept me interested and intrigued the entire time. I felt I could relate to a lot of what the characters were facing even though it is a dystopian setting. Highly recommend!
This isn’t my usual genre at all, yet I found myself completely absorbed. The world in this book isn’t just something you read — it’s something you feel. There’s so much happening between the lines, so much depth that only reveals itself when you slow down and really pay attention. And when you do, it becomes all‑encompassing, almost omniscient, and utterly submerging.
It’s not just a world. It’s not just a book.
The accompanying album adds an entirely new dimension — it makes the world more vivid, more understandable, more emotionally resonant. In many ways, the book feels like a taster, and the album completes the experience.
My favourite line comes from Chapter 9, The Pillars Converge: “Lyrick holding the sky together, Miley pushing back darkness with joy.” Grim Logic’s reaction to that moment absolutely clutched my heart. As a parent, it captured the way children reshape your perception of everything — how their presence, their struggles, their joy, their pain, all shift the world beneath your feet.
If you have anyone in your life who doesn’t fit society’s narrow idea of “normal” — a friend, a family member, a child — this story will speak to you. And if reading isn’t your thing, the album alone is worth your time.
As a single mum doing her best, and as a parent of a neurodivergent child with mental health challenges, I found so much here that resonated deeply. Whether this is your genre or not, the book and the album are absolutely worth experiencing. You might find something in them that reaches you the way it reached me.
Wow! I wanted to read something different and this one certainly got my little gray cells spinning. If Cyberpunk is your thing you'll be pleased to get this one on your Kindle!
