When it comes to Samari Janaé, music is in her soul and her lyrics are the blood that keeps her heart beating. When the label silences her voice taking away her lifeline with a bogus contract, Samari feels defeated but still holds onto the dream of sharing her talent with the world. Failure isn’t fatal and success … or lack thereof isn’t final.
Asao ‘A’so’ Delane built his empire from the hustle and now wears the crown as one of the most successful indie artists to ever step to a mic. Work hard, grind harder isn’t just a phrase, it’s Asao’s life motto. He’s not looking for anything or anyone else to fulfill him beyond the music.
No matter your plans, your purpose will always take center stage in this game called life. Samari and Asao are destined. Their attraction is instant and a pull neither can deny. Their connection runs deep. It’s lyrical and poetic. A rhythm that doesn’t make sense but can’t be ignored.
He’s the solution to all her problems, she’s the light exposing all the demons he’s desperately trying to hide. Together they just might rewrite each other’s stories. A beautiful melody from the heart of the hustle.

When Samari signed her contract with Cobra Records, she had no idea she was making the biggest mistake of her life. The money’s coming in but, she’s barely seeing any of it because, the record label is nickel and diming her on everything. Studio time, production costs, hair, and makeup are all coming out of the advance she didn’t know she’d have to pay back. With two platinum singles and a sold out tour, Samari should be sittin’ on top of the world financially but, she can barely afford to buy groceries. Add to that, the head of the label is pressuring her for sex. When Samari refusing to f*ck for studio time, she gets shelved and the label refuses to release her from her contract. It’s been three years since she’s recorded any new music and she’s dying on the inside.
Asao is a popular independent rapper. His name reigns supreme in these Crescent Falls streets and everyone wants a piece of the popular rapper. Especially, Cobra Records. But, not being signed to a label has afforded A’so the ability to control his career how he sees fit. He records music when he wants to, he collabs with who he wants to, and he keeps 100% of the money he makes. Fresh off of a multi-city tour, A’so is ready for some uninterrupted downtime. While out kickin’ it with his boys, he sees a cutie on the dance floor whinin’ her hips like she’s being paid to do it. A’so doesn’t know who she is but, he definitely plans to find out. Samari and Asao were just the cutest. Their attraction was electric and the music was fire. Tempting Chaos was a great musical romance. The storyline was engaging and the romance between Samira and Asao was a breath of fresh air. I’d recommend adding this to your TBR expeditiously.
I love when authors write about artists, and the music romance concept is always intriguing to me. I assumed it would be a slow-burning romance based on the prologue cause it felt like a buildup for something in the future. I felt that Asao and Samari's connection could have been explored better; it felt a little surface-level, idk something was missing to me. I enjoyed the musical elements of the story and just how the music industry can be from an independent artist and one supported by a label. I liked the idea of Samari being "shelved"; it was unlike anything else I'd read. Listen Asao was giving ENERGY and applying PRESSURE. Asao was determined to do whatever to keep Samari happy. It was a cool read not mad at it.
Tropes: Rapper MMC | Singer FMC | Found Family | Protective Love | Mild Drama | Industry Struggles | Grief & Healing
Let’s talk about a man who understood the assignment! Because Asao did NOT come to play. The way this man moved for Samari? Whew! Protecting her peace, pouring into her dreams, keeping her smiling — that was his entire brand, and I ate it up.
We meet Asao, a rising rapper whose life is shaped by the pain of a tragic loss. Music is his therapy, his only focus, and love isn’t even on his radar… until Samari Janaè enters the picture. Samari is a talented singer stuck in a shady record deal, silenced and sidelined by people who don’t see her worth. But she’s a fighter, and she’s determined to get her voice heard — with or without help.
When these two cross paths, the chemistry is instant, and the love is loud, but it’s never overwhelming. It’s supportive, grounding, and beautifully affirming. Asao doesn’t try to dim Samari’s light—he fuels it. That man had one goal: make sure his woman was good. Period.
The friendships in this book also deserve some love. Dom and Niles? Solid. I need their stories immediately because they’re giving leading man energy. Sharee, Samari’s best friend, held it down too. Loyal, honest, supportive—and even her husband looked out for Samari like family. This whole circle was just real, warm, and ride-or-die.
If you’re looking for a story where the romance is strong but the character development holds just as much weight, this is it. It’s not about love fixing everything, but love showing up for you while you figure it out. And that? That’s my kind of read.
Add this to your list if you want: • A protective, emotionally mature MMC • A heroine fighting to reclaim her voice • Industry struggles & found family • A good man who grants wishes and gets out the way when his woman shines
KC Mills, I see you! I’ll absolutely want more from this crew.
Babyyyyy this book here ! I’m ready to or paperback right now ! Run and go read right now ! I love me a good music story and these two with everything they went through separately did not play when it came down to being together ! I love how despite his inner thoughts not once did he play about my girl . He showed actions definitely speak louder than words and handled everything that got in there way of not only being successful but being happy !! KC NEVER DISAPPOINTS 😮💨
I’ve read just about every book this author has written and it’s rare that she changes her writing style to 3rd person. Most of the time I love stories in the first person but the way this story was written really worked. It let you get an inside glimpse of each character without being overwhelmed with a ton of character POVs. I’m hoping we get more stories that feature characters from this book with Niles always being on his phone arguing with a woman we never got to meet, B-Syed and Kolby, will Dom ever settle down and maybe even a story for JaRue and Frye finding their ones. In any case Aso and Samari’s story was very entertaining and I’m glad I got to experience it.
He is a protector a she’s mine she’s my heart I will do anything for her
Have you ever read something and the two MC never say I love you but you can feel the love they have for each other pouring off the pages!
Asao is my kind of MC , he’s famous but he’s not flashy! He’s loyal and a protector. Him and two best friends was on the wrong path but thankful one of the homies said hey let’s let your talent take us places and that’s what happened !
Samari was in a bad situation but never one to fold. Only one she has that’s family is her bff and she stands ten toes down behind our girl. But once Asao comes in to her life , it’s “what can I do to make things better “ what you need from me! When I say I love him I love him!
If you’re in the mood for a good love story with some rap and rnb added add this to your TBR. Fyi KC spitting bars to ! 😂. I need some on them side characters to!
4.75⭐️ K.C Mills is one of my favourite authors. This book is exactly what I needed to get me back into romance. You could feel Asao’s love and admiration for Samari. Asao was a solid MMC on his own, looked after his friends and family, kept to himself, raw and hard working. I really liked him. Samari was sweet and wanted to share her music with the world but was taken advantage of. You could feel their connection to each other! Loved the lyrics they shared in their music I really loved this music romance, it’s a definite must read!
I don't have many Book-bae's but Asao has easily won my heart.
I love seeing a woman loved right, and this character did that even when he didn't recognize the proper emotion. If ever there was a man of his word, it was him!
❤️- "They touch, they get touched. Do I need to tell you what’s on my heart, Mari?” She smiled so damn big before she gently shook her head. “That’s not our thing. We’re about motion. The actions tell me,” she confirmed with her eyes locked on his. “I’m about whatever you need, and if you need the words, then you got that.”
❤️- "My job is to lift you, care about your wellbeing, and protect your heart. If I’m stepping to you, I don’t take that shit lightly. You’ll never catch me slipping on the job and let me be clear, I’m on the muthafuckin’ job where you’re concerned. Now tell me what he broke that I’m gonna have to repair.”
❤️- " last time Asao’s heart transfer had been voluntary. What he was witnessing with Samari was a straight up heist. The songbird snatched his boy’s shit. They could see it, even if Asao couldn’t.
I can't even call this insta love story because their connection was almost cosmic, the way they orbited around each other. This story did my heart good.
I have said it b4 and will say it again, this author has a way with words that's just speak to me! It's poetry. This is a definite must buy for my home library 🤗.
This was such an amazing read. Asao and Shamari were a perfect match ❤️ no matter how she tried to fight it that man was on her real bad and she was on him too. Perfect mix of everything you want in a man was Asao, so intentional and attentive. That man didn’t play the radio about Mari. Stood on big business everybody who crossed her had to see him and I love that for her.
Loved the bond between Asao Niles and Dom. I hope Dom gets a story too. I was so happy for Kendra when her man came home man this really could be a movie it was like watch that scene in real time.
Idk I might be bias bc no lie I’m a super fan lol. Nah fr KC tha 🐐. The pen don’t miss the storyline was excellent! 10/10 highly recommend! 👏🏾 👏🏾👏🏾
Awww, I am so mad 😡 this here is a MS. K. C. Mills piece and RARELY do I get a book/story that I may not be fond of but this is beyond that because it had all the feel of a great story but it was lacking warmth, spice and heat: hence some big thing was “missing”. I don’t even know what I am saying and how my thoughts are going (they are all around and out of place)… I can’t even continue writing as I don’t even know what to say, or am saying/thinking… I am utterly lost, exhausted, angry and annoyed I will leave it at that
This was another good read! It sucked that Mari was locked into the deal she was the position she was in, but after meeting Aso that all changed. He really came in and was STEPPIN behind her. She had dealt with so much betrayal from the industry so trusting him was hard but he delivered on everything he said he would. I liked them as a couple but I wish they would've dove a little deeper into them outside of the music.
I enjoyed this book from start to finish! The way K.C. Mills put this story together was beautifully done! Samari and Asao being g together took time, love, respect and accepting loss along with growth! Family and friendships were important to the story as well! If you enjoy musical stories, bravo from lyrics to songs and raps! I enjoyed the epilogue and hope to see more of Asao & Samari!
Asao felt the electric current the first time he touched Samari at the door in that restaurant. 10 years prior he lost the love of his life and blamed himself. Who’d think he be in love like that again? Two musically inclined people get together and save each other. He gave Mari her voice back. She was able to start back making music. He was able to love again and start a label with his best friends in order to save his woman. Great read
Where is my Asao? Like seriously because he did not play about Samari and stood on e very word out his mouth. I am just going to say, "If a man not coming behind me like that, I don't want him." I said what I said am mean it.
K.C. Mills did her big one with this one. A damaged man that finds another woman to risk it all for. They saved and uplifted each other.
While I thought Asao and Samari were cute together and had good chemistry, the story itself didn't hook me. I felt no connection to what was happening in the book. I felt disconnected and bored a lot. It could've been a mood thing but I just wasn't moved by by the story. A bad book it wasn't, however it also wasn't an engaging read.
Oh my goodness! From the time Aso laid eyes on Mari, he was all in. He stepped up and showed her how she should be loved. I loved this book so much. Mari got on my nerves a little doubting Aso, when he kept showing her how he was coming about her. I loved it!!
Asao is that man! Wow!!! He’s bout his bizness in music industry etc. but when Samari became part of the equation all bets were off! Dom/Niles were his brothers had his back in everything!!! Loved his dad was released n back home to his wife👊🏽👏🏽great read !
This was ruggedly beautiful. ASO was definitely an alpha. I respected the way he and his friends role for each other but also encouraged growth. I also enjoy watching Samari fall into the soft life. There was drama, romance, and music. This book was definitely swoon Worthy.
Another great read by Ms. KC. I enjoyed this story so much that I could have continued reading Samari and Asao's story. It was beautifully written because you felt like you were with them along this journey and not just reading it.
For Samari's mother to not have any faith in her was heartbreaking 💔, knowing she's the one to give her the journal to jot down her music. Sao had 2 major heartbreaks in his life. Him and Samari made beautiful music together. Now is Niles and/or Dom getting a book 📖?
As always K. C. Mills does an amazing job of story telling! This book was absolutely amazing! I loved how he road for her from jump and protected her and her career at all cost!! I highly recommend this book!
I didnt understand how Asao assured her by action, his words, etc.....but Samari was forever doubting him until the very end it was exhausting. Also I didn't like the way this ended it felt rushed.
I really enjoyed the story. The book flowed very nicely and the relationship between the main characters were goals. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like the book just needed. Guess I wanted me. Lol
If I could give this book anything higher than a 10, I would, this was such a great read the characters I love. I love the buildup to the story. Just all around awesome please read you will not be disappointed
I like reading about people falling in love in the industry. This was very entertaining and hard to put down. The background made me all the more invested in Asao and in Samari.
I loved the ups and downs in this book. It had me hooked from the start to the very last page! Now I need to know how the other characters find their one person because I know it’s going to be good!
