Return to Mazrovia with the dark and twisted sequel to Forest of Hearts from Sunday Times bestselling author, M. A. Kuzniar, for fans of Holly Black and Adalyn Grace.
Two sisters. One crown. A queendom in danger.
Elka now sits on the glass throne of Mazrovia, but her heart lies with Kaz who must remain in the forest court. Elka's position is precarious however; there are threats from neighbouring lands and, before Queen Serce fled, she revealed an earth-shattering Elka has a twin sister – one who may yet claim the throne.
Serafina lives in the icy city of Windhelm, deep in the witchlands, beyond the reach of Elka's rule. The city is ruled by the Valtrines, a bloodthirsty witch clan. Part of a group of vigilantes, Serafina is locked in a secret battle against the Valtrines determined to take them down. When Aleksy Valtrine offers Serafina a deal to help take down his family, she finds herself falling for the boy who should be her enemy.
Meanwhile, Serce has been plotting – will she win Serafina to her side and bring war to Elka’s castle?
Praise for Forest of Hearts:
'Deliciously dark and totally bewitching, Forest of Hearts gripped me from the very first pages. Like Elka, this debut romantasy is bound to steal your heart!' Emily Cooper, author of The Season of Fear
‘A twisty, lyrical tale of monstrous creatures and magic. Romantic and beautifully wrought, this is Snow White as you’ve never seen her before. You will fall under its spell’ Rachel Greenlaw, author of The Woodsmoke Women’s Book of Spells
'Deliciously romantic, gorgeously written and action-packed – your new favourite romantasy!' Amy McCaw, contributing author of A Taste of Darkness
This was a nice continuation to 'Forest of hearts" and more to the world building.
It gave me both frozen and avatar vibes with witches added. I did feel a bit lost at times with the time line and where I was from time to time but what it was all leading to in the end made sense.
Zar is like a big old puppy and every time he came to a scene it put a smile to my face and made me chuckle, how can you not love a dragon who is basically a cinnamon roll horse size puppy who loves his human parents.
I feel like this story isn't over yet and something is brewing in the distance, will we get to see these gods they so speak of? will there be a marriage? will their mother free herself? and will Zar finally fly.
I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I adored the first book in this series, Forest of Hearts, it was one of those books that just grabbed hold and wouldn't let go. It was a lot darker than this book, though City of Mirrors is not all sunshine and rainbows by any means, but FoH was definitely much darker. This book was excellent. A great follow up. Introducing Serafina as Elka's missing twin, taken by their father to be raised away from the castle and all 'that nonsense'. She's had a very different life, and is a very powerful witch. The book switches perspectives between Elka and Seraphina, which works really well. The story was excellent, gearing up for what I think will be an epic third installment to this series. There were moments where I was mentally screaming at Elka 'no! You've got it all wrong!' but you'll see what I mean when you read for yourself.
So highly recommended, definitely read book one first, and enjoy!
A wonderful sequel. I loved the dual perspectives of both Elka and Serafina, the high stakes, the friendships, the swoon worthy romances and the return of my favourite dragon. City of Mirrors is more than five stars for me. Thank you so much to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC.

I’ve read and loved all of Maria’s books, so was very excited to be approved for a NetGalley arc of City of Mirrors, her next one! I enjoyed returning to Mazrovia, and Zar is by far my favourite character! Highly recommend spooky season read!
