Firefighters are supposed to be the ones putting out fires, not causing sparks.
I thought I stifled everything I felt for Connor Porter over a decade ago. But now he’s back home, and I’m hit with those old feelings again, stronger than a firehose to the face.
Feelings I most certainly should not be having for my best friend’s older brother.
I’m trying to push all thoughts of Connor aside and focus on opening a flower truck when his sister persuades him to help me get my business off the ground.
Now, I’m spending more time with my childhood crush than can be considered healthy. And it’s difficult to get him out of my mind when I’m constantly being distracted by his muscular arms and thinking about how they feel when they’re wrapped around me.
My attraction to him grows into a roaring inferno, but I don’t think Connor’s ever seen me as anything other than his little sister’s friend. I need to extinguish these feelings before I’m in too deep.
It’s like that old saying if I keep playing with fire, I’m bound to get burned.
I'm Only Me When I'm With Him is a best friend's brother, grumpy/sunshine romcom with sizzling chemistry but no explicit content. It’s the third book in the Sweeter Than Fiction series, following four best friends finding love.

Oh this book was off the charts with sweetness y’all. If you’re needing something low key and light (aren’t we all???) you should absolutely pick this one up. And if you love all things floral (me, it’s me) you’ll love all of the flower content throughout. I really need a Daffodil in my life now.
I looooved the dynamic between Shayna and Connor. It’s low angst with this genuine, strongly built over time connection. That one that shows up regardless of how long you’ve been apart. It was interesting seeing the MMC as less confident than the usual romantic male lead and I liked that arc for him as he grew and found peace with Shayna.
As often Schimoeller’s books there’s incredible friend groups and supportive and loving families. Another highlight to picking up her stories. Sometimes I really don’t want all of the excess drama and I love how fast these flow and showcase such light.
And are you kidding me…we get a baseball romance next?????
I could not put this book down! Shay and Connor are THE CUTEST EVER! They were perfect for each other, grumpy x sunshine (my favorite) was done so well. This book made me feel all the emotions in the best way possible! I laughed and giggled more times than I can count. Connor is perfect for Shayna, the way he cares for her and pays attention to all the little details, melted my heart. Connor’s new coworkers at the fire station were awesome! I loved their support and banter. Shayna is just pure sunshine ☀️ She was sweet and kind. I love that she loved Connor just the way that he is. And one of my favorite parts was definitely that he called her ‘flower’ and she called him ‘Con’. I just love the nickname trope. Connor helped Shayna see that it’s okay to say ‘no’ and set boundaries, while she helped him see that he is enough, it was so stinking sweet to see. And I loved how she was the one Con felt safe with, and the one he could be himself with. The whole friend group was great, I love the way they supported and cared for each other. And I’m so excited for Alyssa’s book!
tropes: 💚childhood crush 💐opposites attract 💚grumpy x sunshine 💐firefighter MMC 💚florist FMC 💐best friends brother 💚supportive & loving friend group 💐she falls first 💚dual pov
CONTENT: - kisses only (closed door) - no language
The way I gobbled up this story so fast… it was that delicious! I’ve never been a huge fan of the she falls first trope, but I loved it for this particular story. Shayna is so endearing and joyful, and I related to her people pleasing tendencies. Connor seems like her opposite- reserved, quiet, introverted, but he shows his true self only around Shayna. Watching him realize his very real feelings for his sister’s best friend was adorable!! I love seeing their relationship grow, especially with how they were boosting one another up: Shayna learns to say no to others, and Connor learns to be confident in himself. I’m so excited to see what the Long Live Girlies get up to next!
“Connor Porter is my firefighter in shining tan armor.”
What happens when you mix a joyful, exuberant, vivacious woman who is overflowing with sunshine with a hairy, quiet, grumpy, firefighting hermit of a man who exudes stand-offish vibes? A classically sweet, banter-filled, and heartwarming romcom.
Shayna is one of the Long Live Girlies and her story is Book 3 in the Sweeter Than Fiction series. I love her optimistic attitude towards life and her love of flowers, even taking a chance on a flower truck, is everything, especially as she learns to balance boundaries. A best friend’s brother romance is exactly the thing to make this one shine brighter than even the sun. Connor is a man of few words, yet he’s fiercely loyal, hardworking, slightly possessive, and the absolute sweetest underneath all that gruff. Their re-meet-cute is adorable!
I loved everything about this one–from the way they accept one another for who they are to the way they make each other better, I fell hard and fast–right along with Shayna. The small town feel and the supporting cast of characters allowed for all the connections and emotions to emerge.
“My head tells me I need to let this silly crush go before I get burned by a fire not even the best of firefighters can put out.”
Sweet and dreamy, this is the perfect addition to the series and I can’t wait for the rest of the Girlies to get their stories.

My new favorite in the series!! I always love a she falls first and best friend's brother tropes, so I'm not surprised. This was the sweetest book! Shayla is so full of joy and life, even through hard times, you can't help but feel encouraged by her! I loved how she held out for Conner for over a decade, knowing he was the one for her.
And Conner..it starts out with the grumpy/sunshine, but he's most definitely not grumpy deep down. I may have been squealing over the book late at night, because HE BUYS HER A STRAWBERRY MATCHA!! 😂😂 Yeah he won me over.
This series is what won me over with contemporary! It's the perfect no spice series, full of best friends, happily ever afters, and more!! 🩷

I’m Only Me When I’m With Him @authoramandaschimmoeller ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🫑 Kisses only
This book was such a SWEET story! I feel like the title could easily have been I am only me when I’m with her as well. Amanda did a great job writing a more sensitive, reserved, and introverted MC and it was so precious to see him surprise even himself with how he opened up around Shayna! Plus the group of friends in this series is everything 👏🏻
If you like best friend’s brother, opposites attract, super sweet and clean romance with lighthearted themes, and Taylor Swift, this book is for you!
I’M ONLY ME WHEN I’M WITH HIM (Sweeter Than Fiction Series, Book 3) by: Amanda Schimmoeller @authoramandaschimmoeller
••I give 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
~Firefighters are supposed to be the ones putting out fires, not causing sparks.
-I’M ONLY ME WHEN I’M WITH HIM, is such a delightful best friend’s brother romance story. It blooms with so much goodness within. I thoroughly enjoyed the grumpy/sunshine relatable, endearing characters, the sparkling chemistry with no explicit contrnt, oh the humor, and swoony moments balanced out beautifully within moments of heartfelt vulnerability, and the way dear friendships are really like extended found family. The rallying, the support, the encouragement, and love shown so freely handy heart. But, most of all, I absolutely loved the beautiful theme of being one’s self, and the beautiful difference how being seen allows for such confidence, growth and beauty to take such root and shine. Watching the quiet, yet significant meaningful ways of showing up, caring, and loving had my heart all along the way. This dear story emphasizes the importance of being true to one’s self. This is where there is full beauty and depth. The goodness that each character brings out in the other was simply the best. My friends, this charming story is worth the swoony, delightful read. It definitely left me smiling and my heart sighing with content. I highly recommend reading the whole series in order for best enjoyment! No regrets!🌷📚🙌🏻🩷✨
•Content: mention of anxiety (panic attack on page), self-doubt, mild moment of danger-a person in a building fire (non-injured), no language, no violence, kisses only (non-descriptive makeouts). This is a sweet, closed-door romcom!
-I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I’m Only Me When I’m With Him is a sweet, tender, and oh so swoony - pure serotonin in book form. Shayna and Connor won me over in the very first scene. I didn’t stand a chance. Gah, I just love them!
Connor is quiet, reserved, and more than a little self conscious but Shayna brings out the soft, sweet, and tender side of him that I couldn’t get enough of. His (humble, hesitant, unsure) flirtiness was adorable and I love how caring and protective he was of her. Shayna is sunshine, sweetness, and unfiltered joy. She saw past Connor’s gruff exterior to the man underneath. The way they both put each other at ease and the peace they felt when they were together was so special.
I especially loved getting glimpses of their friendship over the years. Those little moments added so much depth and made their present-day love story feel even more special.
I’m ruined in the best way! This one definitely has a piece of my heart—and I’m not even a little mad about it.
If you love low-angst, sweet love stories that make your face hurt from grinning and tender moments shared between friends turning into something more, you will love this one as much as I do!

If you're looking for the sweetest childhood crush, best friend's brother romcom, this is it. Shayna and Connor are such little softies, I am obsessed with them. I give them all the stars.
Shayna is the definition of sunshine, she's joyful, optimistic, affectionate, and encouraging. She also has a bit of a problem with people-pleasing and not knowing how to ask for help (such relatable elder daughter vibes). Enter Connor, her best friend's brother who she has had a secret crush on since they met 14 years prior. He comes off as grumpy and stoic, never smiling and rarely talking, but there's something about Shayna that puts him at ease, allowing him to open up and begin believing in a future he had ruled out for himself. I adore the way they help each other grow and become confident in their worth and desires. They are the softest together, gently complementing each other perfectly. I was giddy and giggling through this whole book with how cute these two are. Especially when Connor finally goes all in and flirts, there is just something about a grump being the biggest softie for the woman he's gone for.
I also loved spending more time with the Long Live Girlies. There is always something so refreshing about a group of very different women committed to loving and supporting each other through each phase of life. I am beyond excited for the rest of the series, especially Alyssa and Austin. And Connor's family and crew were a hoot. "Toilet golf" had me cackling, and if that makes me immature, so be it.
Thank you so much, Amanda, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I seriously loved How He Got the Girl, but I think this one dethroned it, I cannot get over how adorable Shayna and Connor are (plus, I am a sucker for when he only smiles for her). All opinions are my own.
“I mean, it’s not one of the Ten Commandments or anything, but maybe it should be. Thou shalt not kill, steal, or covet thy best friend’s older brother.”
I’m Only Me When I’m With him is the cute best friend’s brother story of Shayna & Connor! Shayna has secretly crushed on Connor since she was a teenager. When by some small twist of fate they end up on a flight together. After Connor helps Shayna through a panic attack her feelings for him are stronger than ever! Little do they know how much their lives are about to be intertwined….
This was such a cute book! I loved that Connor and Shayna had a bit of a history together and how her crush for him was still burning strong and that he had also had some feelings toward her, but was just more reserved. I love how he rescued her not once, but twice and how quickly they both became part of each others’ lives. They had great chemistry and really brought out the best in each other!!
Favorite quotes:
“Thanks.” She smiles up at me, looking like the sun amidst the storm around us. I half expect a rainbow to appear.”
“It is now my new personal life goal to make Connor Porter smile. Better yet, to make Connor Porter laugh.”
“The hopeless romantic in me won’t settle for less than someone who makes me feel that fairytale, swept-off-my-feet, knight-in-shining-armor kind of love.”
And so many more! You need to read it to find your favorites!
This was adorable! I loved the way both Conner and Shayna made each other better and supported one another. They were so sweet! Shayna was a sweetheart. I really felt for her. She was trying so hard to make those around her happy and also working for her dream.. I loved seeing how supportive her friends were of her.. Shayna cared so deeply and it often led to her spread too thin and feeling overwhelmed Conner was a sweetheart! I adored his care for Shayna and how he quietly supported her. COnner was definitely an acts of service guy and it was so sweet to see.. I loved the two of them together! Shayna and Conner both cared so much for the other. They encouraged each other’s strengths and pushed each other to overcome their weaknesses. It was so fun to watch them work together on her flower truck.. I loved seeing them fit into each other’s lives and how natural it was for them.. It was so sweet to see the Long Live girls again! I love their sisterhood and how they cheered each other on. I also appreciated how there was no grudges or weird feelings between Mallory and Shayna. They wanted what was best for each other. Overall, this was a sweet romcom with only kisses. I received an ARC.
YALL!! I have got the perfect romance for spring🥹💐 The way i absolutely ATE this story up in just a few short hours✨ Amanda I’m convinced can do no wrong—her books always bring a smile to my face, they give the coziest vibes with some of the swooniest romances!! Each book of the Sweeter than Fiction series I’ve loved, the Long Live girlies will live with me forever🥹💞
Shayna’s ever present joy and kindness was one of my favorite things about her. I always eat up stories where the MMC helps the FMC to learn how to say no to people💐 I loved the easy fall of Connor & Shayna, their story will melt your heart—Connor has the biggest heart of gold under is shy exterior & once he realizes Shayna is who he wants to spend his life with.. guys this story is so worth it🥹✨ ALSO THE BANTER AND TENSION WAS PERFECTION🫠
Amanda’s writing is some of the most bingeable writing I’ve ever read!! Truly her books fly by for me & I’m always left needing the next one!! WHICH THE NEXT ONE IN THIS SERIES HAS ME ALREADY *PTERODACTYL SCREECH* Anways.. Id like to thank Amanda for letting me ARC read this beautiful book!! I love your books and am so excited for each and every release of yours!! Here’s to many more💐 I’m Only Me When I’m With Him is OUT NOW
I had the opportunity to read an ARC of I’m Only Me With Him by Amanda Schimmoeller, and I’m so grateful to be on her ARC team again. Truly, there hasn’t been a single book she’s written that I haven’t read and loved—and this one was no different. If I didn’t have responsibilities I would’ve easily finished it in 24 hours, but I did still finished it in 72. Which is fast for me these days.
I was already excited going into this book without even knowing much about it, just from getting little glimpses of these characters in previous books. Since this series is so interconnected, it makes getting each character’s story that much more fun and satisfying.
I absolutely loved Connor and Shayna’s dynamic. The tropes in this one were so enjoyable, but what really stood out to me was the character growth. Shayna learning how to say no and set boundaries, and Connor growing in his confidence—it was so well done. I especially loved how they supported each other and helped each other grow in those areas.
The emotional depth in this story really hit, and as always, I loved the friend group aspect. That’s one of my favorite things about Amanda’s books—each story stands on its own, but the relationships between all the characters make the world feel so full and connected.
And just like with all her books, I finished this one wishing it wasn’t over… while also being so excited for the next one because I know we’ll get another love story from this same friend group.
Connor and Shauna’s relationship had me laughing, swooning, and feeling all the things. And honestly, this book is such a good reminder that you don’t need spice for a romance to be completely captivating and make you fall head over heels for the characters.
That’s one of the reasons I love Amanda’s books so much—there’s no swearing or spice, so you can just fully enjoy the story without worrying about explicit content (which I personally really appreciate).
Overall, I would 100% recommend this book. You can read it as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the series in order because it makes the experience so much richer.
Ahhh.. yall! I loved this story. This is probably my favorite one in this series so far. I really enjoyed this one for so many reasons. First off, Connor is Shayna’s childhood crush that she has never been able to get over. Then we have the forced proximity within the story, and bonus - he is her best friend’s brother. So we get a lot of memories of them together over the years without them actually being together. It’s super special. Connor has struggles due to a past relationship and I love how Shayna truly calms him. He is serious on the outside with everyone except Shayna. A true sweetheart. They totally deserved that HEA 🥹
I thought this story was so amazing. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series 💖
*No foul language, no spice
Bonus quote to include the nickname ✨ “You’re going to be my undoing, flower.”
Connor and Shayla are literally the sweetest people as individuals and I absolutely adored their beautiful story! There’s so much growth, amazing friendships, funny moments, flashbacks, and being seen and loved as you are. I couldn’t help but smile through the whole book! Add in that Connor is firefighter and he’s Shayla’s best friend’s brother—it’s just the perfect blend!
“He’s my opposite in nearly every way, but just like two ends of a magnet, I’m drawn to him.”
This story is absolutely sweet and utterly touching. I loved everything about it.
Shayna and Connor are complete opposites. She’s happiness and sunshine and he’s quiet and seemingly broody.
These two blossom and shine the most when they’re together. Finding that they are free to be themselves and be vulnerable, growing closer, laughing and flirting and sharing their secret dreams and then realizing them together.
“She sees me for who I am—an introverted, reserved, stoic man who is scared of saying the wrong thing, so I just never say anything at all.”
This is such a beautiful story of transformation, of finding yourself, chasing your dreams, found family, supportive friends and so much more that left me with such happiness when it was over.
Highlights: 💐The auction 💐The nicknames 💐Slow dancing 💐Shayna’s lack of filter 💐First kiss 💐The vases
The emotions, the love, the struggles were all handled and written so wonderfully. Well done, Amanda.
Thank you to Amanda Schimmoeller for the copy. All opinions are my own.
This is the third book in the Sweeter Than Fiction series, and while it can be read as a standalone, you are going to want to read the full series - and I recommend in series order as the characters crossover.
In this book we get Shayna and Connor's story and this is such an adorable slow burn romance.
I am seriously loving this series and love how each story is different but always brings all of the emotions.
In this story we get a FMC that looks on the positive side of things and brings the sunshine where ever she goes. However, she struggles with saying no and setting boundaries.
We also get a MMC who is a fireman, but is super reserved and introverted. He struggles with feeling like he belongs and is enough.
When Mallory voluntells Connor to help Shayna, he at first does it because of Mallory but then soon looks forward to spending time with Shayna. I loved how both of them realized that they could be their true selves with each other. That there is a peace that settles into them, and they become more grounded, when they are with "their person." As a single lady, this is the fictional love story that you wished could materialize into reality. **swoon**
Again, I also love how the side characters shine and they help to make the story. The Girlie group is amazing! And makes you wish they were real so you could be part of their friend group.
I really enjoy Amanda Schimmoeller's writing style and I'm so looking forward to the rest of this series.
Make sure you check out not only this book but the full series. This is one that you won't want to miss!!
I received an advance copy and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Quotes: "I've got you."
"You're safe with me."
"You are more than enough."
"The right person will appreciate you for who you are."
"Sometimes you have to take a small journey before you can enjoy the view."
"You're somebody to me."
"It means we aren't meant to live this life alone. That we don't have to burn ourselves out when we have our chosen people around us and helping carry the load."
Oh my word! I'm Only Me When I'm With Him is just absolutely stinking adorable. Dare I say this may perhaps be my favorite in this series?? There is just something so special about sunshiny florist Shayna and "grumpy" firefighter Connor. Though, as you get to know Connor more, you realize he isn't actually grump. He struggles with talking to people and being around a lot of people so he comes across as standoffish. Dude, same. I probably like this book so much because I can definitely relate to that. Even though Shayna is trying so hard to crush her decade plus long crush on her best friend's brother and Connor is REAL slow to realize he reciprocates, you can DEFINITELY pick up the chemistry between these two. Like them together is just so cute, I feel like I could pinch their cheeks like they're chunky little babies. Florist plus firefighter just might have become one of my favorite MMC and FMC pairings in a romance novel.
The moment in the epilogue! With the vase. I don't want to give away anything but I was literally squealing with joy like a little school girl to the point that my husband looked at me with a clear question in his eye. All I said is, "This book is so cute!" I was so overcome with adorableness, I set the book down, walked away, and then came back to finish the epilogue. But for real, ah! Gushing over here. From start to finish, I just really enjoyed this book!
I have been loving this entire series by Amanda Schimmoeller and can't wait to read Alyssa's story next! Also, I am REALLY hoping Tess, as an honorary Love Life Girly, gets her story because Evie talking about random guys being her new daddy has just been super entertaining and I know she will make a hilarious matchmaker in her mom's story.
This is the 1st book I've read by Amanda Schimmoeller and I enjoyed it so much! I'm definitely a new fan of her writing! This sweet story was a joy to read and I did not want to put it down! The main characters, Connor and Shayna, are both such relatable, likable characters and you can't help but love them and root for them to find their happy ending!
Connor and Shayna's grumpy-sunshine dynamic was darling and so funny to read! It was precious how Shayna's bubbly, positive, contagious optimism and selflessness slowly softened and broke open the hard layer of protection that Connor had put around his heart, and his reserved, quiet, stoic self-preservation slowly melted under her caring, loving touch. And the way his love, care, and protection for her grew was simply heart-melting! Since their relationship was over a decade in the making, as they'd known each other since middle school (and she'd loved him since then as well!), it was so lovely to watch that relationship progress into something deep and meaningful as they went from best friend's sibling to friends to more. Not to mention their chemistry and attraction to each other was soooo adorable and swoony!
Another aspect of this story I loved was the beautiful friendships between Shayna and her best friends (lovingly called the Long Live Girlies). It was so pleasant and refreshing to read about women friends encouraging each other, lifting each other up, and truly being there for each other through thick and thin. The portrayal of their friendship added so much to this story! This endearing, hilarious, no-spice/kisses-only rom-com was a 5-star read for me! I would definitely recommend this book and I look forward to reading more of Amanda Schimmoeller's books in the future!
(I was given a free copy of this book from the author, but all reviews and opinions are mine, are voluntary, and are 100% honest.)

Review:
So far, I’ve only read I Knew He Was Trouble & this book from this series (I just haven’t gotten to Mallory & Griffin’s story yet), but I didn’t feel like I missed much skipping one book. (Though I totally want to find out how Mallory fell for Griffin with the epilogue from I Knew He Was Trouble!)
I loved getting to know Shayna better, learn about the girls’ long held friendship & where Connor intersected with them! It was so sweet to see how the girls & their families were with each other, even with some fun family events that everyone would get invited to! I loved learning about the various moments that helped Shayna’s crush on Connor grow & stick around over the years (as well as during the events of this story). It was so sweet to see her hope for more. I loved that Connor took a bit longer in realizing his feelings for Shayna & how comfortable he was with her. But despite that, he still did his best to help her out with her business & her own ability to tell people no when asking her to do things for them. Seeing that desire to help her out was adorable!
I can’t wait for the next book with it being one of my favorite tropes: best friends to more! 😍
Summary:
Shayna has been in love with her best friend’s brother since they were young. But with tight friendships and no hope of more coming from Connor’s direction, Shayna has done her best to bury those feelings over the years. Though none of it helps when Connor returns home years later, saves Shayna from a literal fire, and then is convinced by his sister to help Shayna get her flower truck business going. With all of this forced time together, Shayna isn’t sure if her heart will make it out of the experiences unscathed.
Connor decided to move back to Louisville, Kentucky after his life went sideways elsewhere. He didn’t expect a taste of home to come his way before his flight even landed. Yet that’s what happened. Seeing Shayna and using skills he learned on the job to help calm her nerves never would have been on his bingo card of things happening when moving back home. But when Connor finds himself constantly being in Shayna’s orbit with helping her set up her dream flower truck business, he discovers something about himself that he never realized. That Shayna is and always was the one person Connor could feel completely himself with. But with his past, is it even possible for Shayna to love him back?
This was such a cute story! I loved everything about all of Shayna and Connor's interactions. Shayna was all sunshine and flowers. Her childhood crush on her best friend's brother had me rooting for her to finally get her happy ending. I really enjoyed reading about her setting up a flower truck. All the blooms gave this story a delightfully springtime feel. Connor was all clouds and care. He couldn't help but care for Shayna after his sister tricked him into helping with the flower truck. He came off as grumpy to some of the characters, but Shayna knew he was just shy due to his lack of confidence. I really liked reading about a firefighter. It was interesting to see his interactions with the others at his department. I liked that, while there were some scenes in which firefighters were needed, they didn't feel stressful or scary. It was so sweet to see Connor and Shayna help each other grow. Shayna helped him gain confidence and Connor helped her learn to occasionally say no when someone asked for help. One of my favorite things about this story is that it doesn't take place in a small town. Small towns are great, but I do like a little variety in what I read. It also wasn't one of THE big cities. It was refreshing to read a story set in a mid-sized city. Pick up this book if you're in the mood for a super sweet, springy romcom!
Thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This book feels like walking into spring 🌸✨ I absolutely adored it. I’ve loved every book in this series so far, and somehow they just keep getting better.
Connor and Shayna’s story is easily one of my favorites. Connor is the sweetest. introverted, shy, a little bashful but when he’s with her, you really see who he is. The way he smiles around her (and only her) just melts my heart.
And Shayna? She’s pure sunshine ☀️ I love how optimistic, caring, and unapologetically herself she is. I’m always a sucker for a good grumpy x sunshine dynamic, and they are perfect.
This whole series has made me laugh, giggle, and completely melt. And the nicknames oh my gosh 🥹 He calls her “flower”… HOW CUTE. I also love how observant and thoughtful Connor is, noticing the little things about her and showing his love in such quiet, meaningful ways.
One of my favorite themes in this story is that you’re perfect just the way you are. Connor and Shayna don’t try to change each other they just grow together into who they’re meant to be 🤍
I’ll definitely be counting down the days until the next book comes out. This series has my whole heart.
Thank you, Amanda, for the ARC—you’ve made a huge fan out of me. You’re officially one of my top authors, and I can’t wait to see what you write next 💌
Oh my goodness, talk about swoon worthy... Connor and Shayna were the absolute sweetest. Connor comes across as a bit of a grump, but really, he's just a major introvert, which made him very relatable to me. Shayna is the perfect balance for him. I loved how she saw beyond that initial impression that others saw, but also how he was able to be comfortable with her, even before any romantic feelings were involved. Best friend's brother is always a favorite of mine, and it is stories like this one that make it so... the history between them, the pining, the slow burn... honestly, I just couldn't get enough of these two and found myself unable to stop smiling from start to finish. And that first kiss? My goodness, so good. Each book in this series is just as good as the last, and I love them all. I cannot wait to see what's going to happen next!
I'm Only Me When I'm With Him is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. It is the third book in the Sweeter Than Fiction. While you may have a better understanding of the friendship dynamics when read in order, I do think this could be enjoyed as a standalone as well.
**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
Is a best friend’s brother, grumpy/sunshine romcom that had me laughing out loud and not eating to stop reading.
When Shayna is flying home to Louisville, KY she just so happens to sit next to her childhood crush, the one she never got over and compares every other guy she dates against. While having a panic attack he helps to clam her down and finds her wearing his sweatshirt from his senior year of high school, the one he thought he lost.
On top of the anxiety of flying, Shayna also has asthma and he helps her to find her inhaler. She then proceeds to ask about him and if he’s going home for a visit, only to find out that he is moving back permanently. How will she ever get over him when he’s living so close?
Conner is an introvert firefighter, who is moving back to KY after living in Seattle the last 9 years. After one very harsh breakup, he has some very poor view of himself being good for anyone. Preferring to enjoy the solitude of fishing and woodworking.
A accidental fire, auto renovation, and an auction have these two seeing each other more and more and in a different light.
Shayna is the sunshiney friend in her girl group, and when her dreams of owning a floral shop literally go up in flames, enter fireman Connor Porter... Only problem is he’s her friend’s big brother that she’s been secretly pining over for a decade.
I LOVE this girl group! Those girls crack me up and leave a smile on my face. Shayna is such the sunshiney friend and I loved that when bad things came her way she still had a positive outlook on life. She wasn’t an overly outgoing and confident character but once her mind was set, it made my day when she became Little Miss Go-After-What-She-Wants and I enjoyed how she became Connor’s “person”.
Connor was such the introvert, which I was TOTALLY here for! I died laughing when his boss made him be apart of the Fire Department auction. The horror I could feel from him just oozed out onto the page but left me snickering as well. 🤭 Connor’s past hurts made him a little skiddish toward a relationship but when he figured out Shayna was the one for him, I love how he realized it was her all along.
I think my favorite part of the whole book was just how comfortable they were with each other. Neither person was so outgoing that it made the other feel awkward. It truly reminded me of the early days of my relationship with my husband. The comfort between Shayna and Connor just made everything sweet, swoony, and cozy.
This series is so sweet and I’ve loved every member of the Long Live Girlies who’ve found their match so far! This time we get sunshine and reserve coming together for a delightfully sweet romance!
Connor and Shayna have known each other almost their whole lives, and Shayna has had a crush on Connor since the beginning… her best friend’s brother who was totally off limits. Fast forward and Connor is moving back to town, a bit worse for wear from a bad relationship. Shayna still has major feelings for Connor but doesn’t want to mess things up with him or Mallory. After spending a lot of time with each other it becomes clear that feelings just might go both ways for these two.
I enjoyed the progression of their friendship and how Connor finally realized he always had a thing for Shayna. And well, seeing Shayna’s dream come true and all of the sunshine going her way was really cute! They made a great pair and brought out the best in each other. A very satisfying read!
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book! Connor and Shayna are such a perfect fit for each other. Shayna has had a crush on him since they met, so when Connor moves back and they start spending more time together… their relationship blossoms beautifully! (Which is perfect since Shayna loves flowers).
Favorite parts: -Connor realizing Shayna had his sweatshirt -dancing in the dark. -Shayna’s flower cursing -all Shayna’s friends being supportive -their first date— ahhhhh! Perfection. -the vases
Favorite quotes: My eyes drink in Connor Porter standing in my living room in a long-sleeved tee with the LFD Station 13 logo on it as if he’s the last swig of lemonade on a hot summer day.
Meanwhile, I’ve been the silly younger girl still pining after him. The hopeless romantic in me won’t settle for less than someone who makes me feel that fairytale, swept-off-my-feet, knight-in-shining-armor kind of love. I’ve given other men a real, fair shot, but no one has ever made me feel like Connor does. Not after one date, and not even after ten. I know it’s not fair to hold men to a standard, but even though Connor’s not perfect, he’s made me feel all those things. So, how could I possibly accept less when I know there’s so much more out there?
But after spending so much quality time with Connor lately, this doesn’t feel like a childhood crush anymore. It feels like the real deal.
I didn’t know what I was missing until Shayna stepped back into my life on that airplane, wearing my old sweatshirt, and changed everything I thought I wanted. Because ever since that moment, she’s brought more light into my life than all the fireworks coloring the sky above us.
