This book is hard for me to review because it is an assault on my religious beliefs. It takes a story from the very beginning of the bible of Adam and Eve and their sons and changes it. That said you know what you're getting into. It's up front in the story description so it's not like I was tricked into reading it. It shows Adam the first man God created as a wife beater and changes other things about the story. To me though this isn't just some ancient story. I believe it's real history. If I had different religious beliefs maybe this story wouldn't have been offensive to me and I would have enjoyed it. The writing was good. The story was told well, but as a Christian it was very hard for me to read. Talented author though, so I'll be checking out his other works.

What is the line between myth and history? Antonio Simon, Jr. tackles a delicate subject with an unflinching story.
In ancient Mesopotamia, at the very founding of civilization, a strong young woman deals with a dominating male, a guy who insists on applying his own names to everything as a way of asserting his dominance. These two strong wills cannot peaceably coexist, so only one thing remains to be done; define for the culture and for the future how your opponent is the very embodiment of evil. Thought-provoking stuff here!

The author managed to make a pretty familiar tale sound new. Particularly liked that he took advantage of that familiarity to tell the story without giving too detailed explanations, choosing instead to resort to well-placed "hints" and thus leaving the dots for the readers' minds to connect. And the part about Kayhn and Hebel.

In "Lilith," an Adam-type character named First is fed up with the she-thing who constantly defies his authority. This interesting spin on a well-known story uses familiarity to its advantage. Antonio Simon, Jr., creates a tightly-woven tale that pits not only man against woman, but man against the alien probe, Promethea, as "she" strives to bring helpful knowledge to a stubborn mankind.
