Elizabeth Dorothea Cole Bowen, CBE was an Anglo-Irish novelist and short story writer and short story writer notable for her books about the "big house" of Irish landed Protestants as well her fiction about life in wartime London.
A nice little book of short stories It is very evocative and strongly of its time in the settings, but possibly not in terms of perceived attitudes of the 1920s and 30s which, rather unexpectedly unless you know anything of the author, is very thought provoking.
