I have to admit, I don’t usually read series stories. Even then, I was disappointed with this one. First of all, it was too long. Four or five books would, I think, have disciplined the author and/or the editor to keep the stories from rambling. I felt throughout that they couldn’t decide if this should be, a f/f romance, a police procedural or an extended version of a Harry Potter tale. A decision of which road to take would have made the read much more enjoyable for me at least. That said, I found the individual arcs to be well written.
Hmm good start but I felt it rapidly developed into a soap opera. And I’d call it a long book not 8 books. The last one is really just an epilogue to the whole story. The second to last “book” (Lady Hawthorne) was much better a return to form of the first two. Bit of a struggle to complete this one.
These eight books kept me intrigued all through the series. The characters were well developed with flaws that sometimes had me disliking them but in the end, I felt they were family. The writing was very descriptive and you felt you were there during the events.
