Jay’s rockstar dreams are on life support until he meets Lyra, the new neighbor who seems to understand the melodies in his head better than he does. What starts as quiet porch-side chats becomes the catalyst for his return to music, pulling him back from the brink of giving up. But as their connection deepens, Jay discovers that Lyra’s presence is no coincidence, and her true nature is tied to a secret that spans from the modern world to the realm of ancient myth.
To claim the future he’s always wanted and the woman who saved his soul, Jay must confront primeval forces that view human talent as a plaything. With the help of some familiar faces who have braved these divine shadows before, he’ll have to risk a journey into the dark heart of the underworld to bargain for a freedom that was never meant to be theirs. In a world of celestial interference, Jay is about to learn that the most powerful song is the one you’re fated to sing.

I ate this book up. Jay is such a sweetheart, I was so sad for him most of the book. I enjoyed the way Lyra grew through the book. Mandy and Brendan, I could’ve throat punched. I’m glad I read Marginally Yours before this one even though you could probably read this alone if you wanted. It was nice to have Devon and Callie’s backstory for when they came into the picture. I hope that there is more of this series to come. I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest review. Thank you.
Another darling installment in the mortals and muse series from Layla. We follow Lyra and Jay a musician who has lost his spark to create songs. Lyra is the best of the best for the muses in her age group and she is going to prove it with this stubborn musician, that is until she begins to feel for this human. She gets involved for the first time in her life and mettles a little too hard. They need to visit Hades in order to find a way to stay together, but Apollo, as usual wants the last word!
After the squealing good time with Devon and Callie, I wasn't prepared for the dark turn this round was heading for! I loved the worldbuilding in the second half and was frustrated with the MMC for standing in the way of that with his amorous ambitions. Consistently, the author's clever writing and glittery ideas dazzle the reader into a good time. A solid addition to the series, I look forward to what's coming next!
I absolutely love this story of Jay and Lyra. I also am a huge fan of the Gods. This story was such a fun journey while Jay & Lyra venture into the underworld to ask Hades for help to hide from Apollo. Allowing them to spend the rest of their lives together. I received an advance review copy at no cost and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🎸 I received an ARC from the author so the thoughts are my own 🎸
Shattered Verse is a lovestory between a Muse and a musician. I enjoyed that kind of story so much! Never have I read a book featuring a Greek Myth Muse. Don't get me started on how different myths in the Greek pantheon is talked about. I loved seeing Hades and Persephone on page! Definitely give this a read if you are in your Greek mythology summer.
