Love, rebels, and strict teachers. Since when did becoming the ruler of a race involve all these things?

Cynthia’s latest challenge was supposed to be integrating Xavi into her family and figuring out how to gain Jayden acceptance among sorcerers as a mixed blood, not for sorcerer rebels to reveal themselves by intercepting a criminal on his way to prison and mangling his mind so he can’t give up any secrets. At least this lays to rest the question of whether or not there’s a dangerous element among the sorcerers.

But Cynthia isn’t content to sit back and wait for these rebels to cause problems from the shadows, which means drawing them out by moving forward on plans they’re certain to disagree with. Like a sorcerer funded school for mixed bloods—and an engagement to a mixed blood himself.

Jayden revealing his mixed heritage was once his greatest fear, but now it’s letting his chance to be with Cynthia slip away simply because of how others might react to the truth. Except he knows that announcing both his heritage and an engagement to him might put Cynthia in a precarious position among the sorcerers. So he’ll just have to show them how powerful a mixed blood can be when fighting for the woman he loves.

Content:

Profanity: None. Worst language is 'piss off'.

Violence: Mild. People get knocked out, thrown by magical means, some bruises. There is a magical injury done where they are basically brain dead afterwards.

Sexual: Mild. Hand-holding, hugs, a couple falls asleep together on a couch, which instigates a whole 'nothing happened' conversation the next morning when they're found. (Nothing did happen besides cuddles). A few kisses, with hands on waist, around neck, in hair, but not descriptive or steamy at all.

Triggers: Family betrayal. Prejudice against 'mixed bloods' in the magic races.

This was a great last book, and I was forlorn when it ended. I enjoyed my romp with the Sorcerers and especially Cynthia and her marriage candidates turned advisors. I loved the dynamic of the group, especially when it becomes obvious Cynthia is going to choose Jayden and then does. None of them stop supporting either Cynthia or Jayden, and to my utter delight, even when Jayden tells the rest of the guys about his mixed blood status, they are his friends. And that moment for Jayden was touching. He thought he'd lose them, or was braced for it. Clayton stuck his foot in his mouth, (as is his way being captain literal and slightly oblivious to social politeness) but he is staunch too. Ryan and Desmond are awesome about it without hesitation.

Jayden and Cynthia are so sweet, and I loved how they chose each other knowing that it was going to be rough after telling everyone about Jayden's mixed blood. They didn't really bet on how tough, but they rode it out together and had a few moments of connection that I loved as they assured each other it was more than worth it to be together. Again, the healthy relationship rep made me SO HAPPY.

The plot was almost totally political in nature, as they have to figure out how to get it across that just because Jayden is a mixed blood, doesn't mean he's weak. I've been waiting this entire series to see what cool extra abilities Jayden's vampire blood gives him. It was mentioned throughout, and I was so antsy to know, and was happy to finally see what it was! And it was awesome. I thought it would be something else, but that was pretty cool. And made me chuckle vindictively at thinking of when all the other Sorcerers see what he could do. Weak? Yeah, no. He's the most powerful Sorcerer alive next to his mom. Bwahahahaha!

I'm pleased with how it all turned out, and will definitely come back to re-read this one. I know the author did a re-write of the series in pretty quick fashion, so while there are a boat-load of typos in this series, it's understandable. I hope she does plan on getting someone to proof it though, because there are some pretty bad oopsies.

I hope this gets an audiobook version soon. I'd listen to this on loop.

OMGosh MUST READ

Ugh. Where to even start with zero spoilers?! The riveting the entire book. Every scene got better and better. All the loose ends tied up nicely. Now if we could get a novella about C&C’s marriage arrangement that would be the cherry on top!

Start at book 1 or even start with the hidden hotel series if you’re new to Marie’s writing. Her world building has been amazing and each series gets better and better. 😍

Marie Bellmere shows amazing insight into business principles as Cynthia and Jayden and their friends exercise their financial wuzardry in this trilogy. I enjoyed every moment of getting to know Desmond, Ryan and Clayton, Cordelia, Aly and Xavi, plus the incomparable Jeff.
