Athena Storm is the pen name for two authors who fell in love with writing science fiction romance as they fell in love with each other.
She's the Athena. And he's the Storm. Athena hopes that one day it won't be a boyfriend/girlfriend writing duo, but a husband/wife team. But she's not pressuring at all. Not one bit.
Science fiction is the biggest love for the writing duo, and they've been doing the writing for quite some time now, building a universe that readers can get lost and explore in. Filled with big bad alien warriors, sassy human women who give as well as they get, hilarious situations, and enough steam to melt stars!
The duo have created the Athenaverse, where all books in all series are tied together. You can start anywhere but once you do, you'll want to explore them all!
When they get married, they plan to continue writing science fiction romance forever. But again, no pressure on the marrying part. Not at all. (Not like writing Happily Ever After ALL Day won't give you any ideas on its own, right?)
Her fingers curl into the fur at my chest. And I know, in that moment, that I am no longer in exile. I am home. And gods help me… …I will burn the galaxy before I lose her.
This whole story was written in verse. Like a song. I think it was done on purpose but it was so weird. Like I understand why but I don’t care for it. It was very distracting to me. I couldn’t get over it and would stop reading the story because of the weird sentence formations.
Anyways, it’s a sci-fi alien human romance. And I like monster romances so I gave it a try. Mostly because of that cover. It was just okay. Nothing really new but also different enough to keep me reading. I liked Jillian and Maug I just didn’t really get enough of them. The whole jalshagar/mates thing just made them magically love each other and I needed more. This story was both not enough and too much. So much rambling lyric like sentences. And not enough consistent flowing plot. That was also very weird. I can’t explain it, you need to read it to understand but please don’t. You can skip this one.
At first I thought I was going crazy, but after triple checking, I realized that some very important chapters are entirely out of order or are straight up missing! Which is disappointing because the storyline had so much potential. Other issues: Too many repeated phrases; inconsistent descriptions of characters, settings, and objects; odd character arc of MMC; plot jumps; plot holes… I’m going to assume this was written by AI, because no real, sane person can mess up this much and still think it’s okay unless they just didn’t bother reading it after writing it.
The story spends so much time describing imagery repetatively but cuts out major parts of the story. I becomes apparent that chapters and conversations were missing. They throw details in randomly that are from previous conversations that never happened. Explainations never actually given. You just get to parts of new story after alot of repetition of the planet and "not this" "not that" "but this" "but that" etc.
The writing was colorful and yet so unclear.
I felt like the story had alot of potential so I kept reading.... but I never really understood any of it. Especially all the details never included and the excess details that were never even meant to matter to the story at all.
I'm pretty sure this was written by AI. There are strange double dashes everywhere, weird repetition, and constant inconsistencies in every chapter. There is no personality in any of the sentences and the characters are very hollow. Don't bother reading this.
I wanted to give it the benefit that this couldn't be AI, but the number of books they publish is crazy, and then I read the book. Yeah, pretty sure is AI. Which makes me even more mad that they are ruining this genre, especially with all the 5 stars I see here. But weird mistakes keep happening like forgetting where they are, saying something they already said two chapters ago, and the obvious cover. It sucks that I keep getting THEM recommended and other authors that are doing the same. I really, really wanted this book not to be AI, but either the two authors are terrible writters or this is AI.
2 stars. I wanted to like this more than I did. It was more sci fi than any romance....but the real issue is that the plot and dialog went around and around in a big circle! How many times can the author use the same phrases? "a promise" was used in reference to everything! About 1/2 the book was just circling dialog and no plot movement. Pros: it had an interesting, sci-fi story and while Maug lacked backstory he was certainly an interesting character! Spice.....didn't happen until 70% of the way in and was rather minimal.
I loved the sci Fi of this book, loved the fated mates love story. The spice was nice. But the story was hard to follow a lot of the time. It was hard to picture where physically they were, how much time passes between scenes, or if scenes had changes at all. Also wasn't sure if they could breath the air on that planet or not? Also the nad guy thing kind of caught me off guard, but looking back it kinda of makes sense now. Also the slow burn was almost too slow, a lot of guilt to get through. But again I loved the science fiction of this story.
This fated mate story is about Jillian a student of Professor Ciampa who's on Purgonis 6 for field work and Maug our exiled Odex who's surviving in a cave near their compound. Watching them he feels compelled toward Jillian, to keep her safe from the dangers plaguing the hostile planet. What ensues is an engaging story that grabbed me. our characters were likable and the worldbuilding was detailed in this enjoyable copy I'd received and volunteer to read and review.
Dnf chapter 16/40 & I should have left earlier. It's AI slop, grammatically correct but with all the LLM language artefacts & mannerisms to fill a bingo card. Also nothing much happening (at that point they finally meet face to face & I couldn't care less). Yes the cover is pretty & yes the world building is good until it overstays its welcome.
I hate giving low scores, and this one i'm rating as it is b/c the romance was forced, and poorly executed. Plus approximately 100 pages were of back and forth of repeating the same descriptions, worded differently. The sad thing is if they would've focused on the sci-fi plot. It would've been great! Great protentional!!
Arc review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This one was different I really enjoyed it . when jillian with the research team lands on a planet called purgonis 6 the planet it not what it seems.
The author has taken us to another time and place to pull us into the lives of Jillian and Maug. The heart pounding story keeps us turning the pages with danger, connection, action, fears and steam.

Wow there was just so much to this story! I thought it would be a simple monster romance however there was a mesmerizing fungus, alien planet, space exploration and singing spores. A definite good read well done
I enjoyed the characters and the plot was okay but several of the chapters seem out of order or reference scenes that haven't happened yet. This should be re edited and could easily have a better star rating.
LOVE the cover. Plot was disjointed and included way too much scenery description, and well, strange descriptive cerebral prose of everything. It was also repetitive, and I suspect bolstered with a generous dollop of AI.
Not much of a story here other than what was in the synopsis. There is a lot of unnecessary angst here and we spend a lot of time following the MMC's thoughts.
This was not for me. The description of the MMC walking through his cave was repeated so many times its burned in my imagination like a I watched it happen in person.
