A continuation of Your Beating Heart, Your Empty Heart follows Steinn Von Walkenhurst, a vampire who is tired of existing, and the offering, a human who wants to escape.
Steinn, forced to continue existing, wanders the manor, unsure of what to do with himself. The world is a burden in his eyes, his own existence even more so. His father's sudden return forces Steinn to take on responsibilities he never wanted. But what is the true purpose behind the head of the Von Walkenhurst family's return?
The offering, who lost her chance to escape, is forced to continue living as the vampires' feeding ground. Day after day, she cleans the vampire's manor. When a strange journal catches her attention while cleaning one of the older rooms, she falls down a rabbit hole of buried family secrets. She learns that some secrets are better left forgotten.
This was such a good short read! Dark, moody, and gothic. Perfect vampire vibes, but with the contrast of a human POV as well. It was so interesting to see them technically want the same thing, but they handled it in such different ways.
For a short book, it wrapped everything up so well! The plot twist was also very good 🙂↕️🤌🏼
Also, the emotions of both characters was very raw, and one of my favorite aspects 🖤
This was a quick vampy read with some interesting twists in it. There are some dark themes (such as suicidal ideation and depression) that are handled quite well. The deep pull that Adalia and Steinn seem to share is borderline hostile and slightly comical given their circumstances.
I really enjoyed this take on vampires, family drama, and long buried secrets.
