There's a lot of to unpack here but I will start by asking myself what did I just read?

I had to get past the 75% mark for there to be some semblance of something happening, plot wise.
I figured it was a slow paced, overly lush and flowery word building but aside from the lushness there was nothing else going on except for overly detailed sex scenes between a few characters.
The kind of overly detailed that hearkened to older romance books with their lush and long detailed descriptions.

Unfortunately for as detailed in it's world building, the characters themselves are lacking. Jakob, the Wolfcather's Son in question, has very minimal time in the book. He is hardly described and when he is, it's not enough to get a grasp of who is as a person or why Elise, the FMC, is intrigued. Most of their interactions, it appears happens off page as the bulk of the book is about the Captain of the Guard and the Baroness and their very detailed illicit and hedonistic affair as well as all the other sex that the Captain is partaking in because he literally takes from anyone in a skirt. IF there was a villain, there he is.

Quite honestly, I was hoping to read more about him based on the title and it be along the lines of what the blurb has promised but seeing as this is book one, due to the 'To Be Continued' at the end, maybe in the subsequent books, the blurb will be realized.

The slower paced allowed for the author to really go into the descriptions and I'm hoping the plot to appear in the future books for those that will read further because I will not, and a lot has to due with the overly explicit sex scenes that, for me, did nothing in terms of the story that started to unfold. Honestly, a lot of those scenes can be cut down, to present the same danger for the Captain and Baroness and provide some more character building for both MCs and build on the tension that the last quarter started to showcase.
