Erin is a professional “house sitter” but a 4 month stay is longer than she usually commits to. But when she moves into Marie’s cosy home at Station Cottages, so the widow can go on a four-month cruise, she discovers what it means to feel like a part of a community for the first time.

She would be caring for Marie’s border collie, Bella, and she would need to keep an eye on Marie’s plantings in the community allotment (vegetable garden) that all of the neighbors share, along with the coop of chickens that are treated like pets and provide the cottages with fresh eggs.

And, Marie also asked that Erin commit to hosting the weekly “Thursday Night Slow Cooker Supper Club” in Marie’s kitchen, which Erin expected would be a gathering for other elderly women…

The old “crockpot” that Marie’s husband Charlie had gifted her, shortly before dying was meant to be a catalyst for Marie to open their home to neighbors who would end up embracing her, and helping her to move forward once he was gone-and it ended up being that and so much more.

“Food is tied to memories- the old ones- and making good new ones”

What a surprise when the dinners ended up including two men-including one who was about Erin’s age and someone she immediately wanted to spend time with, outside of the Thursday night dinners. Unexpectedly for Erin, these dinners would end up being therapeutic for her as well.

I really enjoyed the author‘s book “The Storytellers” last year-it was the uplifting, found family fiction that I gravitate towards when looking for a break from the darker mystery or crime books that I prefer. But this one didn’t quite hit the mark for me in the same way, as that one did, as everything was resolved a bit too easily this time, and I didn’t find myself becoming emotionally invested.

There was also a lot of focus on the chicken coop and the antics of its inhabitants, and NOT enough on the food. I was hoping the recipes for the crockpot dinners served would be included at the end of the book, but unless they are added later, they were not a part of this ARC.

To sum it up, the story was cozy and pleasant but it won’t be particularly memorable for me.

I still want to circle back and read her debut, “The Secret Ingredient”.

This is a fantastic reminder that sometimes the unexpected becomes the thing that changes us the most!

I enjoyed this engaging story about community and friendship and loved the reminder that if we put ourselves out there (do something a little different despite fear/hesitation), the universe will respond. We all have the power to change our route and destination. The choice is ours ~ daily. Even if we don’t own a slow cooker.

I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.

I received a free copy of, The Slow Cooker Supper Club, by Sue Heath, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Erin is a professional house-sitter, a title Ive never heard of til reading this book. This was a nice read, characters were enjoyable, though I thought Erin jumped into bed way to fast, for me.

When professional housesitter Erin moves to Marie's cosy home at Station Cottages, wile the widow takes a four-month cruise, the job seems pretty.

2) Keep an eye on Marie's plantings in the community allotment.

3) Host the Thursday Night Slow Cooker Supper Club in Marie's kitchen.

It's not easy to review this cosy read. With a mixed bunch of characters, they range from young to old, they all had a part to play. We get friendships old and new, and they all have secrets. Set at Station Cottages, where the Slow Cooker Club began after Marie's oven was broken. This is an easy read.

A warm and wonderful tale of community, companionship and of unexpectedly finding the place you belong in the last place you’d think to look.

Boasting an amazing cast of characters, who were all both valuable and valued despite their differences. With the people and the place so well described that (for an all too brief time) I truly felt like I was a part of their world. And I would have happily stayed there forever!

This has definitely left me with an urge to dust off my own slow cooker and indulge in the comfort of good food, good friends and good conversation.

Now if only I had space in my garden for some chickens as well!

Thank you so much to Sue Heath, to the publishers and to NetGalley for this gifted eARC.

Another good book by this author - I have enjoyed previous stories by Sue Heath. Erin moves into a row of cottages to house sit whilst the owner (Marie) goes on a cruise, although Erin has no intention of staying for longer than 2 months before she goes off travelling again, let alone the 4 months Marie would like her to! However, she hasn't bargained on how lovely the other cottage occupants are and how involved she will become with them all. In particular, when she has to host the Thursday night Slow Cooker Supper Club, as this has always been held at Marie's cottage. She also gets friendly with one of the residents (Danny) who is similar in age to her and they start to form quite a bond. The book explores the relationships between them all and how they help each other out. Lovely heart warming story about a great group of characters, with some good endings.

My only criticism would be that it was a bit repetitive at the beginning; it was clear that Danny & Erin were getting on well, but the story wasn't really moving on very quickly and kept going over the same thoughts etc.

Sue’s books are like warm hugs and are filled with friendship, community and the most delightful characters. The Slow Cooler Supper Club is no exception. Set at Station Cottages, a group of cosy, stone cottages that used to be part of the villages railway station. Heath presents an idyllic setting, complete with community allotment and introduces us to the residents. I was ready to move in by the time the novel finished!

Marie is grieving her husband Tom death. She has isolated herself from the world and put his last gift, a slow cooker away in a shelf. When neighbour Eva comes around looking for help with a broken oven, she offers to cook a meal and gets the slow cooker down. Before she knows it, the rest of the cottages join in and they start the tradition of the Thursday night slow cooker club is born and Marie is ready to face the world again.

Erin has been backpacking around the world and an issue with her passport has meant she’s stuck in the UK with nowhere to live. Her aunt Sue arranges for her house sit her friend Marie’s cottage in the country, on the proviso that she continues to host a weekly slow cooker club dinner. Erin arrives with itchy feet and many misconceptions of the cottage and village and plans for her next adventure. She then meets Danny, a heartbroken architect who has temporarily come to the cottages for a fresh start, Eva, a feisty eighty year old, John a grieving widow and handyman and Philomena who came to look after her mother with dementia. Surprised to find she’s not cooking for a bunch of old ladies Erin begins to join in with their community and cooking group and eventually finds home. I loved how food was intertwined throughout from the allotment being a place to grow ingredients for their meals and each of the characters cooking a meal that meant a lot to them and their loved ones. A beautiful story of starting over, the importance of little things and finding happiness in living. For fans of Sophie Green and Rachel Linden.

Thanks to NetGalley and One More Chapter for the advanced copy of this title in return for an honest review.

I own a copy of The Secret Ingredient but haven't read it yet, but I really enjoyed The Storytellers, so I had high hopes for this.

I found this really difficult to review because the feeling of it, the meaning behind it all, it's something that you need to discover for yourself rather than read someone else's view on.

I liked the range of ages in it. We've got younger people, middle aged, and older. What I particularly liked is how they're all given equal billing. The old characters are not there to tick a box and the young ones are not there to prop up the old. They've all got their lives, their secrets, their desires, and there isn't a dud one amongst them.

This is my second of her books and she has this effortless way of writing where she doesn't shy away from difficult topics, but she imbues it with hope and love and joy, to make it a very real but uplifting story.

Unsurprisingly, there's a lot of focus on food and the comfort of food and how it can bring people together.

I read it in September at the tail end of the absurd heatwaves we were having and it was great. But I imagine it'll be an even cosier read in the colder months, all the promises of stews and whatnot. I may even reread it come the winter - and I rarely reread books.

It's so moving but not overly emotional. It's so warming and cosy and joyful and uplifting. Full of love and family and friendships - new and old - of communities, of beginnings and endings, or finding yourself, of travelling, of sticking around. It's got so much heart and I loved it. This is my favourite of hers so far and I just need to get round to reading the other one.

I'll definitely be recommending this to my nearest and dearest.

This was my second book by this author and is a cute cozy story.
Erin was supposed to be going on a trip but due to unforeseen circumstances she can no longer go. Normally in this position, she would stay with her aunt, or house sit for her. Unfortunately as her aunt thought she was going away she had already organised someone to look after her house while she went on a cruise.
Her aunt says that another lady on her cruise would like someone to look after her house and dog while she's away on the cruise. She initially was happy for her neighbours and friends to do it, but didn't want to be a burden so was hoping to find someone like Erin.
Erin, who really had no other choices, agreed to stay for 2 months, with the possibility of staying for the whole 4 months she is away. All Marie wants is for her dog to be looked after, her plants in the community garden to be looked after and the Slow Cooker get together held at her house to go ahead in her absence.
After moving in the neighbours begin to call in to meet her and Danny turns up with Marie's dog who he had been looking after until she arrived. She had thought that all the neighbours were going to be elderly, so Danny was a welcome surprise, when he turned up and was closer to her age.
Erin soon becomes close to all the neighbours and finds that she likes being in this community and will be sad to leave when Marie comes home.
There were some laugh out loud moments and some heartwarming ones.
Thank you to One More Chapter, Harper Collins Publisher, NetGalley and Sue Heath for the eARC of this book which I received for free in exchange for my review.

Time alone is a wonderful thing but we also need each other, a community, friendships and connection. That's exactly what this encouraging and entertaining book is about. Marie needed new memories and people after Charlie died, what she and Erin got was so much more. This was a well written, delightful read with an amazing cast of colorful characters. Heartwarming connections were formed and the emotion is this story made me laugh, cry and hungry for some good ole slow cooker comfort food. You definitely want to read this warm, cozy and uplifting read, it's has so much heart!

Erin struggles to stay in one place for too long and then she meets the residents of Station Cottages, she’s thrown into Thursday night supper club and it’s just what she needs (even if she doesn't realise it)

We meet the residents of Station Cottages who are all individually at pivotal points in life. all navigating change and loss.

At its core, this is a story of community and friendship, I’d love to sit around the table with the residents on a Thursday night!

The Slow Cooker Supper Club was a unique and quirky way to bring people together. What starts out as housesitting turned into a group of people who needed each other and with the help that each of them can give the others it forms connections and bonds they needed in their lives.
There were many characters to follow and yet it works in this story.

Absolutely loved this book about a group of neighbours who get together to have a slow cooker supper club, they all have a chance to cook in a slow cooker so when one of the group leaves to go on a cruise, she ropes in her house sitter to be part of the group and it is just what she needs. Maybe a little romance too along the way. I loved reading this book, it was such a nice idea and it felt like such a comforting and easy read. Loved it.

This was an easy read. Erin and Danny have a few individual issues they need to sort out and I enjoyed reading how Erin finally faced her demons with her family and found inner happiness.

I would have liked a few recipes for the slow cooker, but there was more focus on the chickens. Compared to previous books I found it a bit slow, but enjoyable none the less.

A sweet story about people getting together and cooking and eating together. This was mainly about how people in close proximity help each other out in difficult times. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
