Please note this is Book Three of the Dragon's Heart Trilogy. There are dragons, an age gap romance and epic battles for true love. True monsters are unveiled. Brace yourself for the darkness. Please check content warnings if needed.
I KNEW it!!!! I am so happy to finally have the last book and for it to end the way it did. Going into this book I had some ideas of what was going to happen, but I was shocked by some twists. Im going to miss Nienna and Kallias as I move onto a new book, but yall have a special little place in my heart 🥹❤️
What a perfect end to an amazing trilogy. The pacing of this book was perfect. I was worried the ending would be rushed but it wasn't too much. There is a lot of death, some gore, and some dark themes in this book compared to the last. But! This book has even more dragons!! I love them.
I adore Nienna. She's such a breath of fresh air for a romantasy FMC. She's young (obvi since this book is age gap trope) but she's so amazing at being Queen, having been raised for it. She's smart and calculated and while she makes some frustrating and naive choices, she's mature in resolving both them and any relational issues that come up with Kallias.
Kallias makes some mistakes too, but he owns up to them. They are perfect for each other and their kingdom. I don't normally like age gap very much but this author does it perfectly and I have and will read every single thing she writes. I loved the ending and the epilogue and was extremely surprised at the little surprise in the epilogue. I'm dying to read Greaves and Grievances and get back into Radaan one more time!
Immediate reaction: Ahhhh! The epilogue! Tsunami! I knew it!
Excuse me, let me compose myself.
Between Gods and Dragons is the last installment of the Dragon’s Heart trilogy. While Melissa didn’t technically do ARCs this time around, thank goodness she has absolutely no chill and dropped an early ebook copy for Kickstarter backers. I was so excited to read this book!
Book 3 definitely takes on a much darker tone in comparison to the last book. This is the final battle against Tallon and the Velli - the battle for Radaan, Nienna and her dragons, and the world as they know it.
Cue the epic music and battle goats 🐐
I think the thing that I loved most about this book - besides Tsunami, that absolute menace of a dragon ❤️ - is the dynamic between Kallias and Nienna. Of course there is love and respect there, but we see them truly starting to learn each other within their respective roles as king and queen. There is friction at times, but they evolve and work through it. Kallias may be a great ruler and stubbornly set in his ways, but Nienna has dragon fire in her veins and is never going to complacently take a backseat. Seeing them butt heads but come out better and stronger for it felt so healthy and real and just *Chef’s Kiss* 🤌
I’m so sad to see the story end, but I loved the way it all came together. I cannot recommend this trilogy enough. I also eagerly await any and all spinoffs 👀
⚔️Epic battles 💖Age Gap Romance (complete with the dynamics that make it great... and... the struggles👀) ❤️🔥Slowburn (but its buuuuurning) 🐲Dragons ☠️Touch-her-and-☠️ And what happens when a battle hardened warrior has to go against his heart.💔
Between Gods and Dragons by M.A. Frick, will be released the 5 june 2026. This is the third book of the serie of The Dragon's Heart trilogy.
"The Golden Warrior. The Chosen of the Gods. The King of Nothing. Kallias might have won his queen but lost his kingdom in the process. This third volume did not disappoint me. I adored the first two and fell in love with the third again. We find our two heroes, Nienna and Kallias, newly married. One might think that this third volume would relegate romance to the background in favor of adventure. Well, no! We are plunged into the heart of war, or rather, civil war. The kingdom is on the brink of collapse, and Kallias must assert his right to the title of king. Nienna must find her place as queen, and both must find a balance between their love and their responsibilities. Difficult for anyone. But with their age difference, it's particularly complicated. And that's where Melissa A. Frick excels. She masterfully handles all the clichés and micro-tropes to offer us a magnificent novel where romance, adventure, and dramatic tension are perfectly balanced. The end of the series is not a final farewell. We're left wanting more with certain characters whose stories we can already imagine unfolding in their own standalone novels. Whether it's a standalone novel or a series... only the author (and her fans!) will tell. It's obviously a 5 ✨ from me again!
« Between Gods and Dragons» de M.A.
What a conclusion to an epic trilogy!! I’m not posting spoilers or going into too much detail as this book hasn’t been published yet but I was lucky enough to receive it early as I backed the kickstarter! The story takes a dark turn in the lead up to the final show down but everything Kallias does is for the good of his kingdom, he may be stubborn as a mule sometimes but his experience has hardened him to be that way. I absolutely loved seeing his more ruthless side, he truly stepped into his own when fighting for what he loves.
Nienna is just a queen through and through, her devotion to a kingdom that hasn’t exactly received her in the best light is admirable. Her kindness and compassion shine through and her absolute fierceness to protect those she loves is instrumental to the story. I love her and Kallias’ relationship, they can read each other perfectly even after being tested many times throughout this book.
Tallon, you evil creature. I had my theories about him and some proved right. His character had me wanting to throw some punches (mainly at him)🤣
Thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the dragons even more, especially Tsunami the little menace!
The goats!!! Please🤣🤣 I’m so happy Claydon’s goats were a consistent presence throughout this book! IYKYK!!🤣🐐
This book was just the icing on the cake, a great end to an amazing series. M.A Frick, you have created a world I want to stay in and I cannot wait to read Greaves & Grievances to be able to have a slice of Radaan once more! Readers, if you haven’t already added this series to your TBR I highly suggest that you do - Definitely 5 stars across all 3 books!!
Cannot wait to get my special edition hardback, it’s gorgeous and I’m excited to have 3 matching sprayed edges😍
Nienna is now Queen of Raadan but nothing about her new role is easy. I absolutely loved seeing a new side of her in this final book! She’s fierce, powerful & willing to become whatever her people need her to be. The dragons answer to her, watching her step fully into that power was EVERYTHING.
Daddy Kallias?! This time we see a darker, more broken version of him. The gods put this man THROUGH IT. Watching him fight to reclaim his kingdom while battling his own grief & anger was such an incredible journey. His character growth throughout this trilogy was chef’s kiss 🤌🏼
Their relationship is one of my favorite parts of this entire series. Watching them navigate duty, loyalty, grief & power felt so raw & real. The angst? DEVASTATING. The yearning? EXQUISITE. The love? Worth every tear.
Tsunami? Continues to be THAT DRAGON. 🐉 She stole every scene she was in & remains one of my favorite characters in the entire trilogy. Also I’m so happy we got to see the goats again😂 ( IYKYK )
What a freaking adventure yall, I devoured this! The betrayals & secrets had my jaw on the floor! This book kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The action never stopped, the stakes were impossibly high & my heart was racing the entire time! @mafrick.author wrapped this trilogy up so beautifully & I’m so sad that it’s over! This is easily one of my favorite dragon romantasy series. It has a love that defies all, heartbreak, adventure, found family, political drama, dragons & characters that are so easy to fall in love with! I’m to excited to read our grumpy bodyguard Greaves story next!!
This was good and it wrapped up the whole Velli/Vellos/Tallon plot lines up by the end. Did this have some pacing issues that made certain parts drag on? 100%. I do think we could have benefitted from having a faster pace and more answers before the end.
Like what happens to Penelope? They basically imply that she is the reason Tallon gained some of the control he had from that canteen but after that’s brought up a few times, we never find out if she gets into any trouble for her part in this whole mess.
I think that a longer epilogue would definitely have been great but overall it was still good. The relationship and bond that Kallias and Nienna have is definitely well done. The respect, love and admiration that they have for each other coupled with the fact that they communicate (most of the time) very well definitely helps.
The way that he helps her heal from everything she went through near the end was beautifully done. I wish that we had more answers about Greaves in lieu of a different book for that, but this was still a pretty good trilogy. Again though, the weird thing here in every book was the amount of descriptions on make out sessions but absolutely zero of anything further than that. The whole trilogy basically has almost or no spice at all. Kind of disappointing but oh well.
I have many emotions…I’m sad it’s over. This has been a journey. I usually steer clear of unfinished series but after being introduced to M.A. Frick with The Petulant Princess, there’s no way I could not sign up when she announced a new dragon series. These books are so beautiful that I don’t even need a refresher to remember where I’m at.
This final installment was everything I hoped for. The way Kallias and Nienna’s love carried them through the stress and fear of the battle was perfect. He is devoted and understanding and gives her room to soar. She is strong and brave and makes him an even stronger ruler. I don’t think I’ve ever highlighted as much as I did reading these books. I loved the banter between all the side characters and even the dragons personalities. The emotions, the suspense, the conflict, everything was perfect. Even the low spice fade to black intimacy was so well done.
I don’t really don’t know what else to say to convince you to read this series. If you love Fourth Wing but also love a good forbidden age gap and read stories for the longing and passion, then do yourself a favor and pick up Between Flames and Deceit.
Between Gods and Dragons is the third book in The Dragon's Heart Trilogy. This one nicely wrapped up the series after Nienna and Kallias return to Radaan to take it back from the backstabbing Tallon. The two of them have to figure out how their own relationship is going to work and how the dragons fit into the overall plan for their kingdom. The majority of the book is relationship growing pains and fighting to take back one city at a time. My favorite character was actually Ronan, Nienna's brother. I would love a Ronan book! As for Nienna and Kallias... I was a little bored with them by book 3. There were some slow parts and some repetitiveness. I could have done with fewer mentions of the mantles they wear. It's funny how minor things like that can get annoying. However, I do think the book was well written, and if you love age-gap romance and dragons, it's worth your time. Especially if you are looking for a new twist on dragons since Nienna isn't a dragon rider herself. She has different and unique dragon relationships compared to other dragon romantasy books.
For romantasy readers that are fans of dragons, politics, age-gap, captivating, and attention stealing worlds, this is a MUST-READ! And an absolute masterpiece finale to the trilogy that closed all conflicts while providing insight into their future. I have no words truly 🥹🗡️🖤

M.A. Frick is an absolutely underrated indie author that has done so well to capture me in this trilogy since day one. I need this series injected into my veins because there is not a day that went by between these books where I did not think about Kallias and Nienna. The storytelling, the world-building, the balance between romance and fantasy, and the overall experience was one that reminds me exactly why I love reading so much.
Frick did so well to continue each book exactly where the last one left off. At no point did I feel there was filler moments to make the series longer or to hit a certain page count. I truly hold this series near and dear to my heart and want to scream from rooftops for everyone to read this triology.
Y'all I was not ready for this roller coaster of a ride!!! I knew, I knew it would pull on my emotions, as @mafrick.author would often share what chapters she was working on in her stories, sometimes with joy and sometimes with tears... This one was devastating!!! 😭
My hubs and I have been driving into European Monarch history, and y'all it's made this story come alive!! The strategies, coup, risk, etc is on a whole new level! I enjoyed this book as much as TOG and The War of Lost Hearts. The tension and unfolding... Leads you all over the place. There is always a cost to peace and survival ❤️🩹
I cannot wait for others to finish so I can see their reactions and theories!
Aaaannnnnnnnd there's some BIG hints in here that have me wondering how Fate Unraveled (Trilogy, in my top three) and this series are connected or if they take place during different times. I'm basically trying to tell myself they're happening in a similar timeline, because I would 🫠 for a crossover!!!
This was my favorite of the trilogy! The growth of the FMC was chef's kiss. An independent, unstoppable QUEEN.
The MMC had some growth but this book definitely was focused on the FMC and I was okay with that.
The pacing felt well done, I didn't really experience a lull at any point. Sensitive subjects(check trigger warnings) were handled with care which I truly appreciated.
Would recommend for Romantasy readers who enjoy cracked door romance and revenge.
Tropes below:
************* *************
•Age Gap •Dragons vs Gods •Strong FMC •Revenge •Slowburn •Fade to Black

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book via the Author. This is my honest review of the book.
I received an ARC of this from the author for participating in the latest Kickstarter, and I am sooooo happy I did. This book had me all over the place. I was tense, I was raging, I was practically screaming. Tsunami was an absolute menace and I loved everything about her. Hands down my favorite dragon. Although Gyrack was also adorable.
While there were many many sad endings, I am thankful that a certain person survived; and I am anxious to see where their book goes! And to hopefully check in a bit with some old friends.
Genuinely a 6🌟 book for me. The first book in this trilogy is what got me into romantasy and so this trilogy will always have a special place in my heart. These have become my most suggested books when in any conversation, I can’t stop talking about them.
This was such a great end to the trilogy, had me grabbing for tissues CONSTANTLY for all the emotions I was feeling while reading! FMC is THAT QUEEN.
And anyone else get a bit hot for Ronan? I don’t know what it was about this book but it made me forget how much of an ass he was in the last one 😂
This was the perfect way to end this series! Each page I am feeling my heart race wondering what’s around the corner of this story!!! When there is calm and peace boom taken a left turn. I don’t want to spoil anything but if you love dragons, and not just the romance this book delivers! I have enjoyed each book in the dragons heart series and this was the best way to end it! Perfection! Highly recommend for any fantasy, romance, reader that loves a forbidden romance but strong willed main characters that fight internal battles between want and need!
This is an age gap/forbidden romance done right. There’s court intrigue, warring nations, and dragons! This is the third and final book of the series and I highly recommend it.
If you liked fourth wing, you will definitely like this series (it’s sooo much better imo).
The ending was a little rushed for me. I really wanted to savor that petulant SOB getting exactly what he deserved (iykyk) and it was over too quickly! I also would have loved more on Nienna’s magic. Oh! And we need more goats!!
If you read this series we LOVE Tsunami! She is such a good girl no matter what they say about her. I would love to have a dragon like her.
This series is so good! It took me a bit to get into it. It was really slow at first but once i got into it i couldn't put it down. If you want spice then this would not be a series for you. I would rate this a 1 for spice. There were a few things that i thought were fairly predictable, but then there were a few things that i was wrong about. Overall i love this series and i will read it again.
Ahhh! OMG absolutely loved the finale of this beautiful book by M.A. Frick! I'm so happy for Kallias and Nienna. I thought Nienna was going to die at the end. But NOO she had a second baby!!! Twin girls. ❤️ I hope for a future book with their daughters! I'm a twin so Nienna having twins is the best. Just so much beautiful things about this book.
Tsunami is my favorite dragon too. I highly recommend giving this trilogy a read.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
What an absolutely perfect ending to an amazing trilogy. As with each book in this series, once I started reading I could not stop. This story was emotional and kept me on the edge of my seat. Ronan redeemed himself in my eyes and became the brother Nienna needed. However, my favorite character was the wild unbonded dragon Tsunami. This trilogy is a fantasy age-gap romance done right, with no spice required!
Thank you to the author for an opportunity to ARC read the conclusion to this trilogy! This was a journey for sure, and I adored it!! There was so much trauma, grief, healing, politics, and of course our dragons! The characters were really tested in this book 💔 but it all wrapped up in a wonderful way!! (Especially now that we have the Greaves and Grievances spinoff to help close even more loops 🤭)
I was soooo NOT ready for this series to be over! 5 stars isn't enough for either this book or this entire trilogy! I laughed, I cried, I was fully invested from the beginning of Between Flames and Deceit, through Between Love and Ruin, all the way until the very end of this book. This quickly became my all-time favorite series and has made indie author M.A. Frick one of my auto buy authors. I will anxiously read anything she puts into the universe!! Beyond ready for their next book!
What can I say about this book? I can say a lot but I don’t want to ruin it for you. Melissa did it again! Made me feel all the feels, love the characters more and more and hate specific ones with every fiber of my heart. She even had me feeling bad and hate that I started liking a bad guy. She is a talent for creating worlds and characters you can’t help but love, love to hate, and hate to love. I will never not read one of her books. She has me addicted to her work.
I got an ebook of this after the Kickstarter ended and I promptly began reading because book 2's cliffhanger was that intense!
And, yeah, I still enjoyed this story. I won't go too deep into spoilers, as the book hasn't been released widely. There are some nitpicks to be had, but it was an fun ending to the story. Even if it gets a bit dark near the end.
The way M A Frick manages to create her characters and breathe life into them never ceases to amaze me. There is a perfect balance of world building, character development, juicy tension (my WORD! The tension!!) and nail biting, heartbreaking plot. This conclusion to the trilogy gets dark, so check your triggers before delving in. And have a box of tissues and some comfort food on standby.
I knew going into this book that it was going to be a wild ride. It did not disappoint. There was a lot of tension and action. Things that have been building finally came to a head. I loved how this one played out and ended. Very satisfied!
This ending was absolutely amazing!!! You are totally not ready for this one. The love, the loss, deceit and power all wrapped into one mind blowing book. And the ending??? You’re totally not ready. This was so worth the wait and I’m crying now that it’s over.
I’m not sure I can give this a fair rating as I skimmed alot of the book. I really liked the first two books, but this one was dragging so painfully and it was incredibly melodramatic.
I liked the ending and the epilogue, but overall I was a bit disappointed.
