Fifty-five years old. Silver in my hair, violence in my eyes, and twenty-six years of vengeance carved into every scar.
I was paid five million to erase Markom Ivanov, the man who filmed my mother dying when I was seventeen.
I walked into his palace ready to paint the walls with his blood.
Then I saw her.
Anya.
His twenty-three-year-old daughter.
Icy-blue eyes, ivory skin, and a pulse that beat faster the closer I got.
One look and the death in my veins became useless.
I took her instead.
Now she’s naked and my captive. She was meant to be my revenge. She’s becoming the only thing I’ve ever been afraid to lose. But I’d never let her know. I’d never let her see that weakness.
I’ll hunt her if she runs. I’ll burn Moscow to ash if anyone tries to take her from me.
Because the monster hired to kill a king just stole his princess, and a man like me didn’t let go of the one thing that finally made him feel human.
I was so intrigued by The Death Dealer by Jenika Snow. It promised heated dirty talk, danger and an all alpha male lead. What I got was heated dirty talk, danger and an all alpha male lead.
Dmitry is the death dealer, only this time he has his own agenda. He wants to serve revenge on a cold platter, and gain the trust of a new friend before he completes his mission.
Zoya knows her father isn’t a good man but she doesn’t know how deep his rot goes (to the core). Dmitry is determined to change this while he holds her captive. What starts as a captive situation turns into so much more.
Thank you to Jenika Snow for the ARC. This is my honest, voluntary review.
Where Darkness Takes Hold
‘The Death Dealer’ by Jenika Snow is not a story you simply read. It is a story you step into, one that slowly closes in around you until there is no clear way out. From the very first page, an unsettling tension settles beneath the surface, quiet but constant, like something waiting to strike.
What makes this story so compelling is the way it builds. Not rushed, not forced, but deliberate. Every moment feels intentional, every interaction layered with something unspoken. The pacing allows the tension to breathe, to stretch, to tighten, until it becomes almost impossible to ignore. It is in those quieter moments where the story truly grips, where a single look or word carries more weight than action ever could.
The characters are where the darkness truly takes shape. Especially the male lead, who walks that razor-thin line between control and chaos. There is something deeply unsettling about him, not because of what is shown, but because of what is felt. His presence lingers, heavy and undeniable, creating a pull that is both dangerous and impossible to resist.
The dynamic between the characters thrives on that tension. It is not just chemistry, it is a constant push and pull of power, of boundaries shifting, of something slowly unraveling. The emotional undercurrent runs deep, adding a layer that makes the story feel raw and consuming rather than just intense.
‘The Death Dealer’ leans fully into obsession, into darkness, into the kind of connection that is not meant to feel safe. And yet, that is exactly what makes it so addictive. It draws the reader in, not with comfort, but with the promise of something sharper, something that lingers long after the final page.
A slightly deeper exploration of certain emotional beats could have elevated the impact even further, which is why this settles at four stars. But the experience itself remains gripping, immersive, and difficult to shake.
Some stories fade when they end. This one stays… quietly, persistently, somewhere in the dark.

Revenge is the focus of Jenika Snow’s most recent release. Dmitry is determined to avenge his mother’s horrific unaliving. He knows exactly who did it, and he knows exactly how he’s going to get this guy back. He ends up taking the guy's daughter, hoping to make him fold. What he doesn’t anticipate is that his daughter hates her father and doesn’t believe her father would care that she was even kidnapped in the first place.
The story goes deeper than this and is darker. Dmitry makes Zola more aware of how evil her father truly is and of his plan for her. If you’re familiar with Jenika Snow’s books, expect a fairly fast-paced dark romance—instalove at its tiniest. I expect it, accept it, and enjoy it. The age gap is big—55 x 23. The spice is hot.

Dmitry is a hire to kill and is known as the Death Dealer. He’s waited for years to seek vengeance on the men that ruthlessly murdered his mother. He’s picking them off one by one.
Zoya is the daughter of one of those men. When Dmitry goes for the kill, he changed his mind and kidnapped his daughter instead. Holds her captive.
This story is under 200 pages. It’s quick it’s fast. And Zoya captivates the Death Dealer. When she understands just truly how evil her father is, they both end up seeking revenge. Together.
“I’m not a hero, Zoya. Never will be. But I’m the weapon that’s finally pointed the right way. And if you want to stand next to me while I pull the trigger, you need to know exactly what kind of monster you’re choosing.”
Dmitry’s mother was killed so he became the Death Dealer. Now years later, he finally can take his revenge on the ones who hurt his mother. There is a little obstacle in his way, Zoya. She is so innocent and pure, not touched by her father’s depravities. Once Zoya learns of her father’s dealings she isn’t surprised. Will Dmitry involve Zoya in his revenge against her father?

some of my favorite quotes:
Time had threaded silver through the black at my temples, but my eyes were still winter-gray and empty.
She's becoming the only thing I've ever been afraid to lose.
Her skin was like silk and ice.
She was leverage to Andrey. To me, she was already something else. Something I'd kill to protect... even as I promised to destroy her.
I was done being afraid of the unknown. And for the first time in my life, I didn't feel small. I felt dangerous.
St. Petersburg at this hour wasn't a city. It was a carcass stripped by men who did their best work while the honest slept.
She was a problem I didn't want to solve and a woman I had no intention of letting walk away.
And for the first time in my life, there was something worth returning to.
"And what am I to you?" He didn't hesitate. Not even for a breath. "Everything. And I'm not giving you back."
The Death Dealer felt like a semi-slow burn to me. It took until Chapter 13 for Zoya and Dmitri to finally get the groove on lol iykyk, and honestly, I was fully invested during those first twelve chapters. The buildup, the tension, and the overall story kept me hooked.
That said, the spicy scenes ended up being my least favorite part of the book - or at least after she penetrantes her for the first time. They felt repetitive after a while. If you've read several of Jenika Snow's books, you may notice what I mean: her male characters often seem to have the same internal monologue, the same reactions ("That's it." "Come for me", and sometimes even the same anatomy. After a few scenes, they started blending together for me.
I also wasn't a fan of Zoya being a virgin/untouched. Maybe that's just a personal preference, but in a modern romance it always feels a little outdated to me. I kept wishing she would be more assertive and active in those scenes instead of saying the phrase I dread most in romance novels: "I need you." Maybe it's just me, but I always find that line more eye-roll inducing than hot.
What I did love was that Dmitri wasn't portrayed as some invincible superhero. He got hurt, took bullets, and at some point felt human. The action scenes carried real stakes because of it. I especially enjoyed the scene where Dmitri kills the old man and the moment when Zoya finally kills her father. Both were incredibly satisfying and felt earned
I also liked that there was no "I love you" scene.
Another thing I appreciated was the ending. I was relieved that it didn't fall into the typical happily-ever-after cliché where everyone is suddenly married with children and dogs running around the house. The conclusion felt more fitting for these characters and for the story that had been told.
Overall, while the romance and spice didn't always work for me, I really enjoyed the plot, the action, and the darker revenge elements.

🖤 KIDNAPPING 🖤AGE GAP 🖤VIRGIN FMC 🖤 OBSESSION BEYOND CONTROL
My Thoughts 💭
When revenge turns into an obsession that cannot be seized, the connection between the two of these characters is like no other and yes it is a short story the chemistry and the story itself packs a mighty punch.
Zoya is very misunderstood and she is essentially in a gilded cage that is built around nightmares and lies and deceits and yet she traded that cage for a cage of obsession devotion power by a monster who's willing to write wrong even if he is a monster.
The ending of the book is very profound just because of the simple fact that Zoya comes out of her shell and she sees the reality of what you have to do in order to overcome some of your monsters.
The fact that Dimitri says he's a monster but yet Zoya is willing to take that monster in all forms just shows the ages just a number and it's not what dictates your maturity or your depth of control in a relationship.
I almost feel like this was sort of a feel of beauty and the beast in a way that is stripping in my opinion but it gave off that vibe in a way.
I definitely cannot wait for the next book and I'm so ready for more of the tantalizing twist beyond what is wrong and right but also how much light can be in the Darkness when you choose to see it that way.
Okay besties… let’s talk about obsession wrapped in danger because "The Death Dealer" by Jenika Snow had me in a chokehold I did NOT want to escape.👀
Listen… I know that big age gap might have some of y’all side-eyeing, but hear me out... silver fox Bratva boss with trauma and vengeance in his veins? I folded IMMEDIATELY. 🤭Dmitry is dark, ruthless, and emotionally wrecked in a way that just hits different. His backstory? Absolutely heartbreaking. Meanwhile, Zoya… my girl has been through it, and the strength she shows after everything with her father? Yeah, I was rooting HARD for her.
This one is definitely a slow burn… but don’t get it twisted... when it flips, it FLIPS. The tension? Thick. The obsession? Unhinged. The dynamic? Very much captive to something deeper and way more dangerous. And yes… the spice absolutely delivers when it finally hits.🥵
Between the revenge plot, the twisted emotions, and that “he falls first and HARD” energy… this was quick, intense, and honestly? Pure obsession fuel.😉
My Ratings: ⭐ 4.5/5 ▪︎ 🥵 3.5/5
🥀 My ratings and review are my own. For my rating scale breakdown, head over to my Goodreads &/or Amazon profile! 🖤
The Death Dealer was such a dark, addictive little ride and honestly exactly what I wanted from a Jenika read. If she’s writing morally grey men with dangerous energy and enough tension to keep me glued to the page, I’m already seated. This one had that signature intensity from the very first chapter and I flew through it ridiculously fast.
Dmitry is every bit as ruthless and brooding as the title promises, and Jenika really leans into that deliciously dangerous atmosphere. He’s the kind of character who should have every alarm bell ringing, and yet there I was, happily turning pages and falling deeper into the chaos. The chemistry between him and Zoya had that perfect push and pull, full of tension, heat, and just enough emotional depth to stop it feeling one note. It was dark, possessive, and completely bingeable.
For me this lands as a really solid four star read. I had such a good time with it and absolutely devoured the darker vibes, but it didn’t quite knock me into five star, life ruining territory. Still, it’s the kind of book that reminds me why Jenika is such a go to when I’m in the mood for something intense and deliciously unhinged. A properly addictive read and one I’d happily recommend if you like your romance on the darker side.
I was completely captivated by The Death Dealer by Jenika Snow from the very first page. It promised heated, deliciously dirty talk, a pulse-pounding sense of danger, and a commanding alpha male—and it delivered on every single front, and then some. What I didn’t expect was just how deeply it would pull me into its dark, intoxicating world.
Dmitry, the infamous “death dealer,” is everything you crave in a morally gray anti-hero—ruthless, calculating, and driven by a chillingly personal mission. This isn’t just another job for him. Beneath his cold exterior lies a carefully constructed plan for revenge, one that requires patience, precision, and an unexpected emotional entanglement. Watching him balance his need for vengeance with the growing complexity of his feelings adds an irresistible layer of tension to his character.
Zoya is equally compelling in her own way. She’s not naive, but she’s been sheltered from the full truth about her father’s darkness. There’s something so gripping about witnessing her gradual realization—that the corruption she suspected runs far deeper than she ever imagined. Her strength unfolds beautifully throughout the story, especially as she’s forced into a situation completely outside her control.
The dynamic between Dmitry and Zoya is where this story truly shines. What begins as a dangerous captive scenario slowly morphs into something far more layered and emotionally charged. The chemistry between them is electric—every interaction is laced with tension, power, and undeniable heat. The push and pull, the danger mixed with desire, makes their connection feel intense and addictive.
Jenika Snow masterfully blends suspense, sensuality, and raw emotion, creating a story that’s not just steamy, but also gripping and immersive. The pacing keeps you hooked, the stakes feel real, and the payoff is incredibly satisfying.
If you love dark romance with dominant heroes, high stakes, and a storyline that keeps you on edge while delivering serious heat, this book is an absolute must-read. A solid five-star read that I couldn’t put down. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶 I read it in one sitting.... I couldn't put it down!!!!! I can't wait for book 2 My girl Jenika just keeps getting better and better!!!! It's a bit dark so read the MENU!!!! GREAT BOOK!!! #OBSESSED
Dmitry Vasilisa was sent to eliminate Andrey Ivanov. Everything was all set till he spied Zoya Ivanov. I bird locked in a cage and yet a new plan takes shape. Zoya knows her father is no good but she doesn’t know to what extent. Being taken by the Death Dealer and locked away as a pawn, she learns firsthand what a sick man her father is. I like how it starts off with Dmitry being closed off as he should be. But as these two start talking about their past, they learn about what drives them. Dmitry wants revenge for the death of his mother at the hands of Andrey and his sick organization. Zoya becomes more though. She starts off as a captive but then he sees she is nothing but property to her father. A bit sad for her but also a wake-up call. I love that she is a fighter and sees that she wants nothing more then to help Dmitry. The ending is just the right amount of passion and destruction.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Dimitri also known as the Death Dealer is out for revenge when he crosses paths with Zoya. He kidnaps her to use her against her father for the sins he must pay for.
But Zoya is not what he expected and now she’s his to ruin. His is dark and cold with revenge and vengeance running through is veins but for some reason he can be gentle with her. She’s his to protect. He would burn their world to keep her safe.

From the first chapter I knew I was going to find it hard to put this book down, and if you like a book that is dark, sexy, steamy and where there is nothing hotter, sexier than a man who would risk his life to save the woman who means everything to him, then this is a must read!

This might be one of the few of Jenika’s short stories that I had to claw through. Having to read about her not wanting feeling helpless or him wanting to claim her, I genuinely feel like I lost years of my life. The plot felt repetitive and kinda difficult to get through. 100% felt like Stockholm syndrome but neither character wanting to claim it because of ‘love’ (if that’s love I want no part in it).
Both characters actually pissed me off. Like I can understand why they’re both getting revenge but after a while I lowkey started rooting for the bad guy because all this yapping for what?
What both characters need is therapy. I get that she’s hypnotised on his dick and he’s whipped from her being a virgin (also feels problematic and pervy-ish). I wish both characters all the worst. The hacker can get it tho
I will read absolutely anything by this amazing author because she always meets all my wants in a book especially when it comes to the spice. This quick read was really good & watching the characters chemistry build through the days along with the sexual tension really is what kept me very interested. Zoya finds out her father is worst than she could have ever imagined & now she has Dmitry keeping her hostage as he handles her father, but in reality it was never a prison for her especially when he cared so much about her from the start. The bond they built with each other was unlike any other, Zoya knew he would protect her but she also wanted to be by his side through it all. Overall I throughly enjoyed this book & all the Death Dealer had to offer in & out of the bedroom because who doesn’t love a silver fox!!
Dmitry, also known as the Death Dealer, has been asked to find and take care of someone who happens to be the father of Zoya, she captured his attention and his plans were waylaid. Instead he takes her and will use her, but things aren’t as they seem.
Dmitry becomes obsessed with Zoya, he gets to know her and see what a strong woman she is, she even understands what he has to do. As they begin to interact, they both realize that tension between them is something they both want to explore. Once they give in, the passion between them is combustible.
Such a great story that captures your attention from the first page, I read it in one seating.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Dmitry is danger personified—a possessive, foul-mouthed protector known as the cold-blooded "Death Dealer." His meticulously planned revenge takes an unexpected turn when he abducts Zoya, his enemy’s daughter, as a pawn. What begins as cold retaliation quickly spirals into an explosive, undeniable obsession. As Zoya discovers her own power and Dmitry finally claims her, the raw intensity of their dark connection becomes impossible to ignore. I couldn’t help but get pulled into this story and finished it in one sitting. If you love your romance dark, gritty, and dangerously addictive, you’ll love this one!

I thought this was a great story! It is dark romance and deals with death (as expected from the name) but it's not done in explicit detail. I love a possessive/obsessed MMC and boy did Dmitry deliver. He fell pretty hard for our FMC Zoya and it was fun to watch everything unfold. Zoya was also a great female lead. She wasn't quite as clueless as everyone thought. I really liked both of them and feel like they make a believable couple.
It sounds like we are building toward a bigger story arc for the series and I am here for it.
If you like age gap (20+ years), possessive MMC, morally black MMC, man obsessed, touch her and ☠️, then this book is for you.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
It’s been awhile since I’ve read a real dark romance and this was just what I needed.
This got straight to the point, no slow burn or anything plus I loved that our FMC was not a fragile damsel but someone who knew what was happening in her world and held no remorse as to what would happen to her father. The age gap was a big one but it didn’t seem to bother them or even myself.
Of course the spice delivered and it delivered well and it wasn’t your basic sweet moment, it was hot and rough.
Jenika knows how to wright a good dark romance that doesn’t leave you feeling shook in a bad way

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 ✅TW’s Is ate this book up, it was so good!! I am obsessed with a revenge plot line. I love watching people get what they deserve. I did not want to put it down. Jenika always writes the best books. Dmitry was everything I want in my mafia romance books. He was obsessive, protective, and had the dirtiest mouth. He is definitely one of my new favorite MMC’s. If you’re looking for a spicy novella I definitely recommend reading this book. It’s only 168 pages so a perfect shorter read. Tropes- -age gap 55M/23F -dark mafia romance -enemies to lovers -high spice and k|nk -touch her and ☠️ -revenge plot
ARC review..... This silver haired fox is on a mission. Paid to eliminate a threat, then he saw HER. Wanting to get revenge and falling for his enemies daughter, was definitely not Dmitry's bingo card, lol. Kidnapping turned into "you're mine". The things that follow, just make you want to feel possessed by this man.
Let's not forget about Zoya.... she is a force to be reckoned with. Captive turned love interest. She hated her father the most. Brave and bold with the help of Dmitry. She became what she needed, and ended something that needed to be done.
Such a great read! Definitely adding to my bookshelf 🩷🖤😈💀
If you like your books dark, gritty, dangerous and raw this is one that needs to be on your tbr! There aren’t many authors who can do dark like this author and I gobble them all up.
Dmitry is danger solidified but he’s also intent and sure of himself and his feelings— including his revenge. Watching him accept his feeling for Zoya was like a breath of fresh air in his twisted world. He stayed true to himself while softening for her. Zoya also became the woman she was always meant to be and it made the story worth reading. The plot flowed well and I devoured the story in one sitting.
Dark, dangerous, and deliciously addictive—this captive romance had me hooked. The Death Dealer is ruthless and calculating, but his mission turns personal when he takes Anya as collateral. What starts as revenge simmers into something far more intense, because Anya isn’t weak—she’s aware, resilient, and finally seeing the truth behind her father’s violence. The tension between them? Sharp, possessive, and impossible to ignore. When he claims her as his, you feel every ounce of that dark, consuming obsession.
I figured this would be a quick and easy read since it’s less than 200 pages. Plus I’ve loved her other books! But I just could not get into this one. It makes sense you’d be dropped right into everything since the book is so short but I also feel that’s to its detriment. I was about 60 pages in and could not bring myself to care about the characters. Maybe I should have stuck with it but after getting nearly halfway into a book and still not caring and having everything move at a rapid pace yet also have nothing happen? It wasn’t for me sadly.
I do not prefer HUGE agp gaps whatsoever. So, it took me a bit to get into this and forget that there was 32 years difference between them. That’s a big stretch. Dmitry is determined to have revenge for his mother’s ☠️. He knows exactly who did it, and knows his plan of retaliation. He ends up kidnapping the guy's daughter. However, he doesn’t realize that his daughter hates her father. She doesn’t even think he’d care in the first place.
This book I think was mainly about retribution and redemption. Retributions were given for past sins, for sure! But redemption because his heart wasn’t all black. He proved that with Zoya. She was set “free” and was able to help him at the end by providing the love and trust she knew he needed since he was 17 years old. It’s certainly a heavy book to read, but it had a great plot.
Spicy dark romance with a cold-blooded assassin out for vengeance. The spice was good! I had a harder time with the story as it didn't really reeled me in and I struggled getting into a reading flow in the earlier parts of the story. The ending made me curious about the next book and The Reaper though!
